So this novel got underrated so much I have to defend it. Why are you even comparing this with Nidome, sure they all about revenge but with different characters. Kaito lets all the hate devoured him which is a good thing for a vengeance based novel, it lets you feel the joy and madness of a broken person on a quest for vengeance. What about this one then, Iori also got betrayed and thought he has broken, but he's not. Which leads to the torturing scene a little soft but... more>> that's not wrong since he hasn't broken yet. He just want a sorry (also the death of his betrayal or so he thought) and more importantly he got Elfi which can become a healing factor to make the good out of him. As much as I hate to admit but this story will self destruct if it continues to force the vengeance part, I am ok with it being the plot but put vengeance as the theme is not going anywhere with the MC this soft (except if the author throws a big boom and let Elfi die when she and Iori are in the relationship, that will be a trigger for the next, maybe even madder Kaito, and vengeance can really be pull out from the novel) I highly recommend this novel not as an vengeance base but an adventure base, don't read Nidome and come here complaining since Iori isn't as broken as Kaito. Give it a try but read it with the thought of this is an adventure novel, it will be a lot better. Overall:

Plot: 4/5 since the MC not fit for madness vengeance
Writing: 5/5 good job from the translators (only when you read it fast thou)
Character: 4, 5/5 again Iori not fit for madness but Elfi best waifu
Theme: 1/5 wrong choice when forced vengeance as the theme
Originality: 4/5 have similarities with Nidome but different in a lot of things
Potential: 5/5 this can become 1 of the best adventure/romance novels or a very forced vengeance one <<less

About the Reckless Girl Who Kept Challenging a Reborn Man Like Me

Wow, this hits not like a brick but like a freaking train ramming into me. Can I be considered a genius? If you decide it with grade and achievement then I can sure be called a genius. Can I be special? If you define it as no single human being is exactly identical to each other then sure I am special. But of course I'm normal, of course I am ordinary, in this world where there are billions of people living in it with who knows how many more are... more>> being born each day how can 1 person look big in that cluster of human? Or even then, look out into space, how big are you compare to the endless universe? How old are you to match the age of space? How special and spectacular are you to all the wonders that we haven't and will probably never heard of? Even Newton looks like an ant in the vast scale of thing, what are you to think of yourself as special? To have that right to be special is the dream me and the MC both chase but it's a dream we will never realize. Really make me wonder, what's the damn point of trying. <<less

1 of the greatest novel ever made, easily get to my top 3. The characters mind and action are throughoutly explained, strong plot with little to none plot hole, each chapter is crazy long. The only bad thing about it is it ends on a high note, left quite a hole in my heart after finishing it.

This is a story of suffering and darkness with the glimpse of light and heart warming. This is a story of a man who has lost everything, who was broken, who tried to get up just to be put down again, who desperately try to find hope just to lose it again.

This is a great story, but a very sad one. It can't make it to my top 3 but definitely in the top 10 of all the novels I have read.

Edit: just finish the book and have to say... more>> as expected for the most part. Still hasn't make it to my top 3 thou. <<less

Dropped at 168 cause the nation building plot is too bad to put in an already downhill novel. The best way to read this novel is to drop when the MC leave the girl behind and go adventure by himself, that's the best place to drop without feeling like you are missing something.

Hum, this novel is a bit interesting, everything was all good and fun until there's some NTR mixed in it, completely ruined a great story. The NTR is just someone else's guess so by some chance it's not NTR I might go back and read it.

Three Days of Happiness

This novel is like a good cup of coffee. One day like every other day, you walked down the same street, surrounded with the same people, and to be greeted with an interesting scent. Following that scent with curiosity, you arrived at the coffee shop only to be met with an extremely bitter taste, but as you keep drinking the aftertaste mixed in and it slowly getting better and better. It gets so good that by the time you realized, the cup is almost empty. As you tried your best... more>> to savor the remaining coffee, the taste hit you even harder and finally as you drink down the last drop, you climaxed like never before, not even your best lover could accomplish such a feat. Sadly, after climaxing, the emptiness that was left behind was so huge, it's like an addiction, and you starting to want more. You tried asking the staffs for more but was told that this is the last one they will ever make. You fall into the depths of despair. You then go around drinking the coffee that is popular right now, trying your best to smooth the urge, but the taste was so bad it make you want to puke. Disappointed with the current trendy coffee, you rushed back home to sleep, hoping that the pain would go away with your consciousness. But as you open the door to your apartment, it's there, right on the table, the coffee called "Utsuro no Hako to Zero no Maria" and "The Lazy King", made especially by your lover, and you began to think, "That coffee is good, so good I could kill for more, but still, only number 3 on my list." And with that thought in mind, you got to sleep, a real good night sleep, not minding the tons of caffeine you just poured down your throat. That's basically what this novel is to me. <<less

Well this is a fun one. The author surely know what he's doing, thoughts and actions all have meaning to them, either logically or emotionally. Character developments are massive and crystal- clear with some small unrealistic part here and there, but that's just me nitpicking. The real worth however, is about how close to reality he shaped the characters, especially loner and the like, the way he described how we act, how we think, our problems and concerns are so precise I seriously thought he was talking about me for... more>> a sec. But of course, life isn't like a novel, there won't be a beautiful girl randomly starts taking interest in you, nor will there be kind and understanding people always following you. 10/10 hoping for more. <<less

The first few chapters are really good but starting from when he show his inner thoughts in the arena that things gone bad. The author tried to make every little tiny bit of events into a boss battle. It's still acceptable at first but really gets annoying at about chap 20, from there to chap 29, which is where I dropped, it's just got to the point of unbearable. The author also like to prolong seemingly useless events and actions, which just dumb and annoying imo. All the person that... more>> hates the MC doesn't have their brain with them, they scorned at every little thing he does and make a big deal out of everything. The people follow or love the MC on the other hand is also brain dead, they think of him like a God, and I'm pretty sure even if he were to make a genocide they will still be ok with it. Overall, good potential but falls way too hard and way too fast. <<less

One of my top 5. This story have it all. Amazing and originally plot (it was released in 2007 so this basically the first of its kind). Polished and well made characters with individuality, although still fall to the common problem like overreacting and dense. Characters development and especially the romance is top class and might be the best I have seen in a while. The main story is already good but the side story make it perfect

The story was great until the MC decided to teach other students magic. I get his intention but the biggest turnoff a novel could ever make is mass training, Magi grandson is a perfect example, but we shall leave that alone. Aside from that the development until now was pretty solid except for the fighting scene where it's full of holes.

Spoiler

in the fight with the head master, the MC can kill him or destroy his magic completely with just a missile based impact or a nuclear based impact if he want complete destruction, there's no way some kind of rock can withstand that kind of fire power. It might be because he doesn't want to so his true strength but still the hole is big. The same could be said with other fight scenes.

[collapse]

I would give this a 4.5/5 and keep enjoying it if he just quietly leave for adventure but the mass training make me drop it completely. <<less

well, that's it for me guys. After a solid start and development the story has finally reached its end for me. Too much cringe with stupid situations and brainless people while the plot literally hasn't progressed in the slightest for the past 50 or so chapters. The only reason I was able to make it this far is the thought it would get better but no, it never happened.

Silly story with no objective. Characters have a hard time to build up personality, development of both plot and romance is unbelievably bad. Even the comedy is bad and was used out of place.

The story is great, really great, the plot is nothing new, characters with common traits, even the main one. But what separate it is the style and how the story progresses. It's a 4/5 for me, just don't have that originality for the 5.

This is getting ridiculous, first I understand why he add the mage and the dragon in, because they were strong and unique. But why, for fck sake, why, why did he put 2 f**king little girls who don't even have sh*t to their personality, even those 2 girls from before have a tiny bit to it. If only this could be a care free life of just 2 God venturing into the infinite universe while having a blass on the way. Isn't that such a good novel to read, isn't... more>> that novel have so much potential? Then how the f**k did it end up like this pile of crap. <<less

Intelligence MC that think with his brain. The girls are not your everyday harem characters but each of them have their own characteristics except for the maids made from dp (they still have emotions thou, just not as much as others). Clever thinking of the MC which make the fighting pretty decent. The best part of this novel is the humor in it. One of the few that actually keep its humor running for over 260 chapters and still pretty good.

Decent story so far. The author doesn't lie when he said the MC is plain. Letting himself get pushed around most of the time while having mediocre look and grade with no real ambition nor motivation thus far. Truly the definition of plain. But that's not a problem at all, for future development is what matter, so don't give up on it yet, stick around and see, maybe this will be another masterpiece in this dark hole called novelupdates.

This is like every overpowered MC living his slow life but also not the same. Was it original? Kinda, not in a sense of idea but in way that the author developed the plot and characters. Was it realistic? Not really, both psychologically and logically wise. But was it enjoyable? Absolutely yes. The fight sence are actually very well-made and the use of tactics to make use of every little opportunities are praise-worthy. And by mentioning a couple thing in the past, the author seem to not shy away from... more>> those kind of thing. But most importantly, the characters actually feel alive, the main one that is. It was so good that I'm starting to not mind the clear harem route the author is taking. That being said, this novel is not perfect, cliche developments are still there, dumb moments are still there, fake climaxes are still there, a lot of the problem with a typical isekai novel are still there. But atleast it's not hopeless yet like some, the author actually seem to know what he's doing this time. <<less

I keeps trying to reach chap 100 before I really judge it but the journey is rough. The couple first dozen chapters seem somewhat enjoyable but like everyone said, he is supposed to be an old, wise man but all I'm seeing is some dude from his 20 that trying not to have s*x with those little girls. That's not all there is to it. A couple more dozen chapters in when the fighting really get heated up, it all ended in a somewhat boring way, don't get me wrong,... more>> the fight itself is pretty good but the end of the fight is just pure disappointment. And from around that onwards things get downhill, fast. The interaction between characters is like some teenagers talking to each other. And don't even talk about the "pervert" part that the girls are fussing about. The road to 100 is rough but I can't deny that I really have fun reading this novel before, too bad it's not worth reading anymore. <<less
