Absolute Choice

While the story is supposed to be ridiculous, it is ridiculous in the wrong way - it is the MC and his forced choices that should be bullsh*t, while the setting should serve as a "common sense" foil for them. But the world is equally ridiculous - if an instructor regularly fires students he has been teaching for just 2 or 3 days - it is that instructor that should be fired, as he completely failed in doing his duty.

Unrivaled Tang Sect

Author is completely rehashing his earlier Douluo Dalu novel - and its worst sides come to light.

End result is a very poor quality story - it is only training and fighting, with no real goals or plot, with extremely small amount of world building. MC and everyone else just train mindlessly for the sake of training and hunt poor critically endangered animals to increase their own power - but there's simply no meaning to it all.

This is a mix of Baka to Testo to Shukanju with apocalypse monster invasion-type story. Unfortunately, it just doesn't work: the kids are supposed to be the chosen ones that are risking their lives to save the world, but idiotic "school system" arbitrarily discriminates them purely based on the characteristics of their special weapons. The normal reaction would be to say "if you don't want me then I won't do it!" and rage quit.

Tempest of the Battlefield

The story is a bit of a fraud: first it shows really interesting survival on a frontier planet during war with Bugs - but after that it completely switches to a school type story with virtual gaming battles, school competitions and immature attempts at romance.

Returning from the Immortal World
April 24, 2017

The story completely broke suspension of disbelief then MC started mass winning against one-armed bandits - the only way such things could work is if the machines were tempered with.

It's strange how his relatives are willing to spend hundreds of thousands yuan to hire thugs to attack and cripple him and his mother - there's just no real reason for something of THAT extent.

MC also doesn't behave like a grown up adult that has more than 10 thousands years of experience - but like a chuuni schoolboy that got... more>> his hands on a superpower... <<less

Plundering the Dao of the Immortal Journey

MC is supposed to be seeking Immortality - but all he does is improve his Literacy/Bureaucracy skills, as well as accumulate wealth/land for his new mother and clan.

The villains are made to look extremely stupid - whenever they plan something bad to do with MC, he gets to overhear their Plan (described in plain text down to the minute details for MC's convenience) to easily foil them.

All Things Wrong

The quality is very uneven - sometimes there are absolutely brilliant parts of the story, like when they introduce a Pet System into the game and MC finds hilarious ways to cope with his disadvantages (that backfire at him in even more hilarious fashion), but when the plot switches to describing his boring regular VR gaming experiences with his guild mates that have nothing original at all so you just want to skip through them...

Swamp Girl!
May 2, 2017
Status: c39
The "girl" is too passive. He is supposed to have been an adventurer - but everything he has been doing so far is going with the flow, almost never taking initiative nor pursuing any goals. Find out the fate of his parents and sister? Contact friends? Examine his new body and experiment with his abilities? Don't expect that from him.

Hell, he doesn't even try to have s*x with the girls or that noble!

Very disappointing novel.

Tempest of the Stellar War
October 2, 2016
Status: v2c10
The MC is too much of a brainless Mary Sue - all everyone is talking about is him, he has ungodly levels of brains and brawns, but he throws away all the rewards that are thrown at his feet to single-mindedly pursue his goal. Author also didn't learn his physics - magnetic field has almost no effect on lasers, aside from some tiny quantum effects that won't affect concentrated beam in any substantial way (though it might just be an error in the VR game he is playing, even though... more>> it is supposed to be modeled after the real mechs). <<less

The Sacred Ruins
April 18, 2017
Status: --
The story completely lacks some basic required information about MC and the world he is supposed to be in.

Who is he? How does he look like? What does he do? Where is he from? How did he come to be in this desert? What is he doing there? Does he have food and water? It feels like it was ripped out of the middle of some other novel, losing all the necessary context, so it is very hard to get into it.

The author is also EXTREMELY fond of absolutely excessive... more>> visual descriptions of things - with barely any action happening. This makes it very hard to distinguish something that is actually important to the plot from some random unnecessarily phenomena, making the story advance at a snail pace at one time - and run like a cheetah at another. <<less

First 9 volumes or so were interesting - new life as an adventurer, exploration of labyrinths, new party members - but around volume 10 the story deteriorated, as MC switched to conquering the land/general mode - and became no better than the sister that threw him out, murdering thousands for political gains to defeat her. "Kill the dragon - and become a dragon yourself".

This is a kind of sitcom: Xianxia edition.

While it does suffer from the usual "power up/training" syndrome of the Xianxia genre, it has plenty of inter-personal relationship added into the mix.

MC is a big troll transmigrated into the world of immortals, and he manages to end up with an even bigger troll as his teacher.

Cult of the Sacred Runes

Good and promising start that ends up degenerating into generic Xianxia cultivation novel...

First the author created a good and interesting alternative way for the MC to cultivate instead of the usual sitting on his ass doing nothing plot-relevant after stuffing himself full of drugs, allowing characters to advance by improving and inventing new Stances, and requiring new experiences as inspiration for them - and then he completely fails to use it, wasting years and years "meditating"...

This leads to the classic problem with non-MC characters: they are disposable dolls, appearing for... more>> a brief moment and then getting ruthlessly thrown away. What sort of "best friend" is it if you don't even visit him once in 3 years despite being in the same city?! <<less

Cultivating to Become a Great Celestial
March 17, 2017
Status: c48
With all the mature themes in it (multiple layers of betrayal, rape attempt, human sacrifices, etc), this novel is not really a comedy - or, at least, a very very dark one.

MC is thrown into a dog eat dog cultivation world - and what she receives is not a cheat, but a very big disability instead. She struggles to make people around her show a bit of compassion and humanity, and desperately tries to protect those that hasn't lost it yet.

This novel presents extremely novel experience of what is normally... more>> a very shallow power fantasy world by getting rid of all the power grabbing cliches and substituting human interaction for it.

If you got tired of ordinary Xianxia, this is one novel that you would find interesting to read. <<less

The story really lacks character development and interaction in non-combat situations. MC just has his goal (to be come a Monarch), but there's no real motivation for his ambitions.

Godly Model Creator

The start is quite poor, author has many logical problems and inconsistencies (i.e. a robber attacks MC without checking whether he has anything worthwhile at all, or everyone is judged by only one single parameter that is supposed to reflect their strength - lumping stupid athletes and weak geniuses together). Translation is quite inaccurate -i.e. what MC is trying to enter is not "university", but "*war* university", thus explaining why they ignore those with non-combat abilities.

But later on the story improves - it is quite interesting to see how MC... more>> is becoming a Batman in the world filled with Supermen, and falls further and further to the Dark Side in pursuit of power... <<less

World of Cultivation

First two books of this novel, where the MC was cultivating or settling a new island, were absolutely brilliant.

But after that the story just crumbles down, both from world consistency POV (with one measly Jindan bullying tens of thousands of Ningmai) and from story style POV - army building is really not what was attractive in this novel. The worst part began when MC became separated from his army - victories of his subordinates are just not interesting, and the more new characters it introduced, the less screen time each... more>> one gets and the less important they become. <<less

Story has serious problem with MC's characterization - he was supposed to be "shameless, vicious, hypocritical, and treacherous" - but he is anything but; he is just a plain vanilla do-good-er not even remotely as evil as people around him.

Start was interesting and funny, especially when Grid was punished for his greediness, but after some point in time the whole VR game became so much about him that it destroyed suspension of disbelief - and the story became another boring one about OP protagonist with no real character interaction.

Otherworldly Evil Monarch
May 16, 2017
Status: c253
The major problem with this novel is that everyone thinks and acts exactly the same way. Any plan MC makes goes either exactly as planned - or better, and if anything is different it is only because he didn't have enough information. Everyone values the same things, everyone (MC included) thinks it is OK to bully everyone even slightly weaker... MC is also suffering from the extreme case of "japanese highschool male virgin" disease, being a complete idiot in matters of love and anything related to opposite s*x - even... more>> though he should've at least gained some knowledge from his predecessor.

Frankly, the main entertaining part of this novel is then he is trying his "rascal" act - but it seems the further the story goes, the less it appears and the less convincing it is. <<less
