Gang of Yuusha

Very interesting premise, here we have another author who puts some actual thought into his writing, to portray and implement the theme of "drug abuse" within a fantasy novel. One that is permanently controversial and concerns people from all strata of society. We also get a twisted MC who had everything, but lost all of it and hit rock bottom, drowning in a mire of crime and violence due to some reasonable circumstances. And yes, he's an absolute cold-blooded asshole, but that's okay, because Shouji is not pretending to be... more>> a saint or sugarcoating his actions like the typical hypocrite characters.

Biggest plus, it's dark (er) fantasy (!), the literal dope of the fantasy genre, far away from all those happy-go-lucky stories, lacking in every aspect. Kudos to Japanese authors with some actual writing talent. <<less

Honestly? It's kind of average.. At the moment, it really reminds me of "Re:Monster", certainly not in a good way. Gaming elements = indicator for poorly written novels, where the author easily pulls everything out of known skill systems, makes the world building rather shallow and flat. We also get a crappy evolution system that breaks with every form of traditional fantasy due to female goblins evolving into fairies and the like.. X.x

The first few chapters as well as his motivation for revenge are kind of questionable. What the f**k... more>> did he expect from the Sword Saint Ha-Yuri, that she would wipe his ass whenever something bad happened to him, just because she gave him an oral promise which she broke? Then you could kill half of humanity for making empty promises, the world is full of such people. She even gifted him 1 gold out of the blue. Can't even take the protagonist seriously, when he feels like a 6 year old brat throwing a tantrum, simply because life didn't go his way in a world centered around survival of the fittest.

Furthermore, the author wants to sell us a ferocious world where the MC survived from day to day, 5 phrases later the group is betrayed by the supposed super "trustful" person, how did he even survive so long if his insight into human nature is that bad? The beginning could have been way better and more conclusive, for now it's simply a filler read, hope it gets more enjoyable. <<less

My Disciple Died Yet Again

My Disciple Died Yet Again is the epitome of failed potential.

This novel is so absolutely overrated to the point of being completely ridiculous - naturally, I do get why and what people like about it, the comedy is not half bad, and the author had at least some interesting ideas.. And sadly, that's it.

The protagonist never gets tired to lecture others with her one-sided hypocrisy, one of those typical happy-go-lucky characters who think the world can be changed with their goodie two shoe ideals. What's even more stupid, she not... more>> only rescues the person (BUGS) responsible for the troubles to the point where she's dying, no she also covers for him when he's flirting around with girls.. I mean, you for real sis? O.O I should add that he and some of his female companions are (in-) directly responsible for the deaths of several fellow disciples.. Well, same goes for the protagonist because she did not do what had to be done. Then we have the problem that the protagonist is always emphasizing that she's a modern woman, sorry but in my world someone mature and adult of a modern era would never have such a childlike and naive view of the world, it only helps to portray her narrow-minded and utterly unrealistic behaviour in all its glory, as if she lacks the skill to even think rationally. But what really disgusted me the most about Zhu Yao (name of the protagonist) is how she treats the feelings of others, especially if they had good intentions towards her. Making fun of them and playing with their honest sincerity, just because she feels uncomfortable and can't deal with the situation like an adult.

And to be honest, the entire cultivation part is non-sensical, because even when one reaches the higher realm thanks to the ascension, all (s) he does is cultivating all over again from scratch.. Wow - an endless loop of poop!!

Even if we exclude the fact that the sects basically abduct children at a young age, or it's seemingly okay for the parents to give their little kids to total strangers without ever seeing them again, the story is not one fart conclusive and is filled to the brim with plotholes that I already lost count of them. What's more, this novel includes timespans of thousands of years, and when I look at the "character development" in regard to the flow of time.. Oh boy.. :'D It's as if the growth of the characters and the world is basically stagnant.

Readers should learn to use the terms masterpiece and superb more inflationary, do you even know how to evaluate something? The novel is neither bad nor good, but average at best. A filler read, nothing more and nothing less. <<less

Modern Weapons Cheat in Another World
February 11, 2016

To be honest, it's a mystery to me why the rating is that high..

- there's no real introduction, not even the outer appearance of the MC is described O﹏o
- characters have no background, totally one-dimensional
- behaviour of the MC incomprehensible - first chapter he's of the impression, "no way would I kill others". Shortly after in the following 2nd chapter he gave out the orders to kill without even considering to speak with the other party..

So far, the only real somewhat unique features of the novel are the... more>> yandere harem, and the interesting use of his unique skills, with him ordering his troops around like a general. A filler read - nothing more, nothing less. <<less

If you like novels with happy end (-ings), this will be your source of juicy joy. 69/5 stars - it's one of the better ero novels out there, naturally, only in comparance to the genre in general and if you're fan of cock magic.

Believe it or not, but we have some actual story going on here, with monster (character) development and plausible monster ecology story-telling.

Kuro no Maou

Status: c275
Kuro no Maou - well, what can I say, first and foremost, this novel is surely underrated with only 4.0/5.0 rating at the moment. The dark vibe and cruelty of the story are quite refreshing, far away from all those boring novels with happy-go-lucky protagonists. One of its greatest feats are the awesome as hell (yandere harem) characters, their development and interactions, evolving from innocent maidens to ruthless killer machines! Kurono's walk through hell throughout the novel feels conclusive, you can easily relate to him, most of the time. Naturally,... more>> there are also happy and fun times, but the protagonist and his entourage are not invincible, but they always try to make the best out of their possible options and resources. The world building is sufficient, background information to locations, history etc. Included. Furthermore, the length of the chapters is not too long, and not too short. I nearly forgot to mention the amusing black humour, or hilarious moments in general.. (◦'ںˉ◦) Another strong point of the novel would be the interesting "curse weapons", which come with their own gruesome story that gave birth to their existence. If you're looking for a story with a more mature tone, characters that stop at nothing and a believable protagonist, I can highly recommend "Kuro no Maou". <<less

Fremd Torturchen

Status: v2c1
"Oppressive rulers need to be killed, tyrants need to be hanged, genoiciders need to be slaughtered brutally. This is natural law. What awaits at the endpoint of the path of torture is hell without a shred of redemption, adorned by one's own screams. Only then does the torturer's life come to a conclusion. Man at the root of all evil, you shall set off first. I shall not run away and will follow you in the near future." - Elisabeth

Wow, just wow.. What's up with the unjustified low rating? 「... more>> (°ヘ°) For once we have a really delicate and outstanding piece of dark fantasy, the story is very well written and interesting. The kind of novel you won't find very often, especially in the Japanese novel section.

Everything is described in great detail, so that the characters, environment and behaviour almost come to life. It's also thanks to the more mature point of view, and disturbing, lingering dark atmosphere. Keep in mind, the story is absolutely gruesome, full of disturbing moments and all sorts of extensive atrocities. How can one not love something that perfectly depicts human nature to its darkest origin? Simply an amazing read, chapter after chapter you want to know more about the past of Elisabeth, and you rejoice when even the smallest triviality of her grim history is revealed, each piece of the puzzle gazing right back into you from the abyss.

Just one last warning, it's dark, incredibly dark!
Spoiler

The range goes from people (and demons) getting tortured horribly to little children being impaled on stakes.

Also mentionable, Kaito gets to keep a beautiful human-like doll who's madly in love with him, more or less due to some coincidental circumstances.. - Him being an awful cook as the main reason *whisper*

My Girlfriend is a Zombie
September 29, 2016
Status: c55
How come this has so many upvotes? Chinese upvote mafia?

It already begins with the title, dunno if it's because of the translation or whatever.. First and foremost, the (main) girl is not his girlfriend, at least not at the beginning, because he never got her consent and they weren't even dating before the outbreak happened. Secondly, the infected are obviously NOT zombies, zombies = undead. Why is it that every time a story is based on a viral infection peeps are calling them zombies, even if it has nothing to... more>> do with them? It's just plain stupid, the disease is more reminiscent of a form of "raving madness".

The story in itself, well, it does not leave much of an impression, kind of average. The fights are boring, we get an MC who's using his power to restore the consciousness of his childhood friend. What a good guy, and lovely romance right? Yep, if it weren't for him violating the girls more or less against their will, because he's simply controlling them like puppets, exploiting their circumstances. I already see him becoming a serial infected rapist.. Lmao.

But (t), and that's a big butt! It still is an okay read, if you're into apocalypse type and viral infection themed novels, at least the novel won't be like the worst read of your life. <<less

The Simple Job of Only Perishing to the Hero
August 27, 2017
Status: c10
I absolutely can't recommend novels like these, why is that? The answer is rather simple, the chapters are so incredibly short that there's literally no space for a conclusive story built-up or character development due to the lack of depth. What's even worse, each chapter jumps from one scene to another entirely, skipping tons of stuff happening between them. And well, the characters are totally flat, they're simply "there", but don't feel alive. How can you even rate a novel like this with 5 stars? Go read a picture book.... more>> ≪.<

chapter length = definite indicator for writing skill <<less

Ore no Isekai Shimai ga Jichou Shinai!

Status: v1c4
The next cheap soap opera novel with low scale dramedy and bland cardboard cut out characters that you can find in tons of other reads, trying to portray an overly pitiful MC. The main character is unreasonably high dragged along the given flow of the circumstances surrounding him, "living his life" to the whims of others. Biggest minus are the naivety and denseness of the male lead, furthermore, he's just one more guy who tries to project the common sense of our world to the new one.. Be that as... more>> it may, there's nothing to expect, typical copy/paste plot with one-dimensional cutesy characters lacking in nearly every aspect, packed in an unimaginative storytelling.

And honestly, what exactly stopped him from running away? He had lots of chances to take his sister to who knows where.. ≪.< <<less

Plain, simple and totally repetitive, that's the best summary for this novel. The characters are so one-dimensional that one can call them stick figures, every single chapter reads the same.. I'm not joking here. And when you read about his new everyday life, it simply makes you wonder for what he's living in the first place.

It is not worth the time, not even as a filler read.

Spoiler

Now you might be interested in the novel, because of the mature tag. Sry, don't get your hopes up, the s*x scenes read uninspired and profane. In addition, he is only allowed to do his wives in two different s*xual positions. Can it get even duller?

These Dangerous Girls Placed Me Into Jeopardy

This.. Has.. So.. Much.. Potential!

Have you ever wanted to know about the true feelings or characters of others? Yes!? However, there're things in this world better left in the dark, as the scariest monsters are the ones that lurk inside souls.

Versatile characters and interesting concept, including a well-written and so far believable storytelling, where not everything is as it seems to be. The MC can look at the abnormal preferences, true characters and psychological issues of other people, resulting in him being in a sheep among a pack of wolves... more>> situation. Since his entire class is filled with full-fledged psychopaths and/or abnormalities, there're several girls going after him.. Exactly the kind you don't want to have around you. One can't help but be interested in the unfolding and progressing story, as well as the hopefully adequate character development.

Rakuin no Monshou - it's one of those novels, which clearly outshine the average ones due to its exceptional and brilliant writing style, as well as incredible story-telling. The characters really come to life, you can almost picture every scene as it is unfolding in your imagination, because they're described in a beautiful atmosphere that bring them to existence.

Strong points of Rakuin no Monshou:
- incredible and sound world building
- believable background story of the characters and in general
- description in great detail, where the scenery, characters etc.... more>> Come to life
- feelings are authentic, behaviour feels natural in regard to the situation
- great character interaction
- no happy-go-lucky retard setting
- long chapters
- very satisfying translation

There's no concept of a story, or at least a general direction. Characters are nothing more than bland cardboard cut outs, full of the usual stereotypes with nothing worth mentionable. A bunch of pseudo yanderes going after a protagonist with no noteworthy features, can't recommend it, not even as a filler read, if you're looking for a way to kill some time.

The story is as average as the translation of the first translator, prepare for a headache while reading.. The next filler read.

I have to say, dear authors of novels, at least give your characters a little comprehensible human behaviour. He takes over the mind of a six year old child, there is no inner conflict about the situation?! It's just okay for him without feeling anything.. The hell? Furthermore, the MC awakes in an unfamiliar room with strangers, which are possible family members. What does he say shortly after? "Let's... more>> just sleep for now.", who could sleep in such a situation? In all honesty, one of the worst introductions.

An average novel, good as a filler read between other releases. Typical 0-8-15 Shounen setting, behaviour of the MC illogical within the story. Writing and phrasing on an okay level, nothing special.

Several interesting attempts and ideas, but the author made weird decisions for the continual plot..

Spoiler

Why make the MC OP on god lvl, if he prefers to take a merchant route? Moreover he handles most of the situations in an incompetent way. O.O In addition the Drama tag feels totally off so far..
