According to commenters of the manga version, it's all a misunderstanding. The prince is only trying to protect the main character from the scheming vixen.
Following birth is training and measuring of her combat abilty. This gives the sense of planning for the future much like a crafting or strategy-type fantasy, where the reader's expectations build over time.
Some characters attempt social maneauvering to get the better of the heroine, similar to quite a few Chinese historical romances. However, this isn't the focus of the story. It never gets to the point where everyone is out to get her. Several characters are amusing.
Action scenes appear but have clear endings and don't dominate the plot. There are also some descriptions of cultivation practices.
