The first chapters are basically just setting up the premise. However, it really makes you sympathize with the 'villainess' main character. Nobody ever told her about her bad personality or about how her surroundings were suffering from it. So when she gets a wake-up call she is pretty much horrified. Of course she would be!

The whole sympathy for the villainess thing is just so cute. She wasn't really trying to be mean, she was just misunderstood. Cue the fluffy life lessons.

Bonus for the high translation quality. Let's hope for more... more>> chapters! <<less

My Dad Is the Galaxy’s Prince Charming
November 20, 2018
Status: c29
Only 15 chapters are out but I couldn't stop myself from using Google Translate and keep going. This is holy cow awesome!

Yao Si mysteriously becomes a vampire ('bloodling', 'blood clan') one day. She doesn't know who turned her. A vampire war is going on and Yao Si is caught in the middle of it. Unfortunately she is a 5th generation vampire at the bottom of the food chain. Stuff happens and she goes into hibernation.

She wakes up X billions of years into the future. Vampires dominate the galaxy and their... more>> generation numbers are in triple digits. A number of misunderstandings interfer and mess up Yao Si's life. It is on an oh-my-gawd level. I somehow wonder about the IQ and sanity of some characters. Will Yao Si be able to keep it together?

Other than being hilariously funny, the story goes at a fast pace. I'm not sure if the 'action' genre should be added. There is action but (so far) only on a superficial level, moving the plot forward.

The male lead character has just entered the stage about where I'm at in the story, so I can't say much about him. Suffice to say he is high spec.

Anyhow, this is addicting. Make sure you've set aside enough time since you won't be able to stop once you start reading this! <<less

As of writing this, only one chapter is out and that is the prologue. This first chapter/prologue is suuper long. If it keeps this up it's going to be way meatier than it looks at first glance. It seems good though as of yet there is no dialogue and essentially no character interaction. Some amusing descriptions are used so maybe a comedy tag should be added later, if it keeps up.

Advent of the Archmage

Status: c28
Plot: A pro gamer transmigrates into the body of a magician apprentice in the RPG game world. Realizing the time of the game is about to start, he is able to predict what will happen. There is also a skill system.

Characters: Main character is a planner and uses magic cleverly. By chapter 28, two potential harem members have been introduced. Those two do not have much personality but do have background stories.

World: RPG-like western fantasy, but written from a Chinese perspective.

Read this for lighthearted action where the enemies die without... more>> blood. Though the MC is leaning toward being overpowered, it isn't to the degree of one-hitting everyone; actual battle happens. <<less

Lucy Blanchett Remembered
December 7, 2018
Status: c2
The main character Lucy has issues with her memory. This adds both comedy and mystery to the story, but is also disturbing at times. Essentially, Lucy is an oblivious idiot. The information the reader receives is limited by Lucy's world view which leads to the mystery part.

Questions arise about what Lucy's background is and her prior relationship with Prince Claudio. What sort of magic does Lucy have and why was she admitted into the magic academy?

Though Lucy acts stupidly and you may want to laugh when reading about it, I... more>> end up worrying for her instead. Having bad manners when talking with a prince is no joke you know? Stupidity like that can't be attractive you know? Really, how are you going to make me believe in the romance tag up there? Won't Lucy just become a burden at this rate?

Well, this review is only based on the first two chapters. I guess there is time for stuff to happen. <<less

Suddenly Became A Princess One Day

Though only two chapters have been translated so far, I struggled through the only raws that were available for free. Frustratingly, the MC doesn't meet her father until the later half of chapter 7 which means I was left hanging. Because of the status of the raws, the likelihood this will be dropped is very high.

As for the content of the first seven chapters, they were more like an introduction to the story. Slightly cute but unsatsifying since the actual story begins with the paid chapters.

Rated five stars for potential.

So I've only read a few chapters but I just have to write a review. Somebody please rescue the female character from the MC!

So he is a bullying victim who has a dark outlook on the world. Rather than transferring to a different school or some other non-violent solution he decides he is going to kill the main perpetrator. Typical thinking of a psycho. Later he uses a girl who is about to get raped as a distraction to kill an orc. Ok fine, that might be necessary but shouldn't... more>> make her like him.

He chooses to use summon magic (sic.) and support magic. His reasoning is he doesn't want to, or is too weak to, fight in melee. Despite the fact he has been striking orcs with bamboo spears and their own swords, he still doesn't think he could do it. Instead, he decides this little girl he doesn't know should fight in melee. I'm sorry? You think somebody weaker than you should do it instead? Though he doesn't think he is suited for it, he wants to order somebody random to do it instead. Shouldn't he ask this person to choose something she would be good at instead? If you are convinced you are bad in melee, wouldn't this person also have some idea of what she is bad at?

So the MC is an idiot and a psycho but what really makes him unattractive is that he is just lazy. He just doesn't want to fight himself because it is a bother. He could have chosen elemental magic to fight from a distance. Insead he chose summon (should be summoning) where he doesn't have to do anything himself, and buffing with support magic where he only has to re-buff every 20 minutes. There was no other explanation why the combo summon + support would have been more effective than other options. Did he pick this because he didn't want to choose healing for his summons? I can only speculate the MC thinks reality turned into an RPG where healing is boring.

Is this going to turn into a harem? That would be the most unrealistic with this lazy, psycho, domineering, stupid MC. Girls should leave him when they discover his sh*tty personality. <<less

The main character is reborn into a BL (boys love) world. Though she is supposedly a fujoshi who likes BL, the setting has become an obstacle on her way to find her own love. Her position as a woman isn't good.

Though it seems like she will eventually find someone the main focus of the novel doesn't seem to be her romance but an exploration of the setting. As such, read this because it's interesting and not because of the romance.

There is a lot of inner monologue and straight up explanations... more>> of the world and settings. Some people might not like that. I just thought the content was captivating enough I ended up struggling through a couple of chapters (ch. 2-4) in the original Japanese, using Google translate. This despite how lousy the Japanese machine translations are.

(Sorry SublimiSomnium, but why did you machine translate this to chapter 47 if it was only worth a 2-star rating? I guess we have different rules for rating...) <<less

Daughter of the Emperor

I started reading Suddenly Became A Princess One Day before this but I like this one better. Daughter of the Emperor isn't as frustratingly slow in the beginning. Apparently Daughter of the Emperor came out before the other novel even though the translations started slightly later.

For me, the point of either of this two novels is to bring down that cold and evil type father. The triumph of cuteness over evil. This has yet to occur but it had better happen.

Two Saints Wander off into a Different World

Two drunk girls/women are summoned to a different world when very drunk. They are met by a bunch of hot guys of different fantasy races. It seems like the story will be an amusing romp. The translation quality is good but it is hard to tell who is talking. Anyhow, I'll come back for more when more chapters have been released.

A naive Japanese teenaged girl is transported to another world. The world, Evelier, is of the usual sword-and-sorcery type but has been through something like a zombie apocalypse. Though some attractive gods are encountered, the setup appears to be for a monogamous relationship with the last man on Evelier.

PROS: + A handsome knight and some handsome gods. + Post-apocalyptic setting rather than the usual fare. + Good translation so far.

CONS: - Main character is a naive girl. - Chapter length is a bit long.

This is one of my new favorites on Novel Updates. A sick girl is reborn into a healthy body far into the future. Unfortunately, her father died, and she has to masquerade as a boy in order to inherit his military benefits.

Spoiler

Following birth is training and measuring of her combat abilty. This gives the sense of planning for the future much like a crafting or strategy-type fantasy, where the reader's expectations build over time.

Some characters attempt social maneauvering to get the better of the heroine, similar to quite a few Chinese historical romances. However, this isn't the focus of the story. It never gets to the point where everyone is out to get her. Several characters are amusing.

Action scenes appear but have clear endings and don't dominate the plot. There are also some descriptions of cultivation practices.

Expecting a harem in the future.

[collapse]

Overall the novel has a varied plot which prevents the reader from getting bored. The mecha setting is also a breath of fresh air.

Though the main character is strong, she doesn't entirely cross the line into becoming overpowered. She even has a weakness.

The slow age progression might annoy some people. The world building is also a bit illogical at times. I don't think this pulls the story down though. <<less

Love it love it love it! Translate faster, I want to read the entire thing!

The way this is written, it is as if the main character is leveling in a MMO, slowly gaining resources and power. However, it doesn't have that game-y feeling. What it does have is excellent world building which explains the elements actually borrowed from gaming: The A.I. Chip is the reason for character status numbers, and gaming-esque monsters originate from magical experiments or other dimensions. Rather than being overpowered from the start, the main character is... more>> evolving little by little to become overpowered. This is very satisfying and you get to treasure every bit of progress done. <<less

The villainess type character remembers her past life during her conviction event. Her current world is that of an otome game she used to play. Her engagement with prince charming is broken and she realizes she will die if events follow the original otome game plot. So far, so clichéed. The villainess (Eileen/Irene) decides to change the future by proposing marriage to the Demon King.

As of chapter 4 Eileen has met the handsome Demon King, Claude, and his two male followers, Keith and Beelzebub. There is no insta-love and Eileen... more>> is showcased as a "strong female character" (whether this will keep up remains to be seen).

It is hard to describe, but the logical reasoning of the writer is similar to Japanese management-style novels or Japanese novels which feature politics. Because of the clichéed opening I was reminded of Common Sense of a Duke’s Daughter. Hopefully there will be more about the handsome Demon King and less clichées later. <<less

Since so many Japanese are being summoned, Amaterasu begins to reverse summon every time it happens. Hilarity ensues. Includes comedic stories about the summoned heroes, parodies of shinto gods, and an over the top prime minister. The perfect read when you want a laugh!

I can't wait to see what will happen when more reverse summoned people begin to affect Japan.

Return of the Female Knight

Seems like it will be a great novel. Great translation, great plot.

After her death, the main character is sent back in time. She wants to prevent her family from being killed and picks up a sword to do so. As of chapter 3, she is moving to act and there is a sense of urgency. In other words, the story isn't a Japanese novel clone; it is Korean after all.

The crown prince will probably become a love interest. It must be him in the cover illustration. As of chapter 3... more>> he hasn't been introduced yet so I can't say much about him.

This translator puts tiny pictures of characters next to their dialogue. This particular novel also has several color illustrations so far. To me this was a great bonus which helped bring the characters to life. <<less

The translation quality is very good and the story is amusing and cute. However, I suspect the translator released the first five chapters to get readers interested and won't be releasing more unless he/she gets donations. Freeloaders like me will be disappointed.

Like many other reviewers, I thought this novel got better over time. It seems you won't be happy with it unless you get to the third arc. I nearly dropped it but then I sneaked a peak ahead and got hyped over the genre swap.

The genres of the arcs released so far are in the spoiler below:

Spoiler

Arc 1 (c2-33) Historical
Arc 2 (c34-60) Contemporary
Arc 3 (c61-86) Fantasy world
Arc 4 (c87-115) Cultivation world
Arc 5 (c116-145) Modern entertainment industry (actress)
Arc 6 (c146-?) Vampires

[collapse]

The first arc (chapter 2-33) is in a historical setting, some Ancient China variation that never happened. If you aren't a fan of this genre it's pretty boring. I guess it's unique that the main character only needs to face-slap one other woman instead of the usual throngs of scheming relatives, rivals, and revenge targets.

The second arc is just as clichéed as the first and the plot feels extremely similar. The characters also had similar personalities. It is as if the same plot was exported to a contemporary setting. I'm thinking it wouldn't be so bad to skip the entire second arc. Though if you do you will miss out on how the main character recognized the male lead's reincarnation the first time. It's not a big loss though and it should be possible to return to the second arc later if you do decide to skip it.

It got interesting from the third arc and onwards. Both the characters and the plot changed. This is the true charm of this novel: With each new arc, the setting is of a different literary genre. I couldn't help but look forward to which genres would appear next and how the characters would be like when they reincarnated into them. Though some clichés were still around, I was greatly amused by certain ways the story twisted. It seemed like the writer became a better storyteller, as if the first arcs were just practice. Now I wouldn't mind using Google translate on the Chinese originals to find out what's gonna happen next. <<less

This is yet another villainess duke's daughter reincarnation story. The translation quality is lower than average and could use some editing.

As of finishing chapter 5, the main character sees glimpses of the future instead of the usual otome game setting. She also appears to have an inferiority complex. Maybe she will end up ruining her own future?

Originally I thought this was junk, but it turns out the writing style changes after the first few chapters. It starts out as a monologue which didn't let me immerse myself properly in the story. Think of it as if the prologue extended into the early chapters.

Following this, it turns similar to other otome game novels.
