The Path Toward Heaven

Too many 1 star reviews already. Do they hate it because of Qidian or are they too lazy to even attempt to comprehend the greatness of this story and its lazy MC?

Mao Ni has done a great job already as usual of his works. He always takes a really slow approach with his stories, but I thoroughly enjoy it just as I do Ze Tian Ji. I prefer slower stories with a great plot and interesting well-developed characters over super fast action-packed stories with little to no plot with thousands... more>> of plot holes and very generic characters.

Mao Ni does a really good job at developing his characters even though it can take a lot of time as his stories are slow after all. There are characters that start out undesirable only to slowly over time become so much more interesting until they become one of the best characters in the story. This is one of the reasons Mao Ni is one of my favorite authors.

To really finish this review off I will say do not worry about things that you do not understand in the story. It is a slow story and we are not supposed to understand everything. Over time the overall plot will be revealed and things will slowly start to unravel. This author definitely likes it when his readers try to speculate what everything means. I find it fun to speculate in a story as it really, at least for me, shows how invested I am in a story.

So, should you read The Path Toward Heaven? Absolutely!

Even if you don't like slow stories you should at least give this one and Mao Ni's other novels a try. <<less

There aren't many chapters out at the moment, but the story is pretty interesting so far.

The story is slow yet fast at the same time if that makes sense at all, but it isn't bad (at least for now) and is probably the most interesting story I have read in a while. It has had a lot of action and the main character is being developed fairly well. There are already quite a few moments where you can really tell what does and doesn't affect the main character's conscience.

Hopefully, it... more>> will stay good and won't become stupid and full of plot holes or at least stupid actions like a lot of other novels.

This is my review for now and I may edit it down the line once more chapters have been translated. <<less

Tales of Herding Gods

I have to say this may be one of the best novels I have read in a long time. The more the story progresses the better it gets. The world and the characters are so fleshed out it is amazing. Almost all of the characters in this story are actually competent and not absolute cliché morons like over 90% of the novels that seem to cover this genre. The amount of time the author puts into his characters is obvious since there are so few one dimensional characters. There are... more>> many reasons why this is currently the most popular novel by far for Qidian in China right now.

I’m 528 chapters into this story now and can confidently say that “Tales of Herding Gods” is a massive step up from “Rise of Humanity”! I discovered this much earlier it is just that I didn’t make a review until now. The author has definitely learned from his mistakes and written an absolutely amazing story with a super detailed and wonderful world.

The more I read the more I realize how bad the most liked review for this novel on this site is. It is an utter load of crap. Honestly if you believe a review from somebody who read the story with a machine translation than you must really not have any knowledge of what a “good” review really is. If I read the story from mtl I would have had absolutely no idea how good this story really is since I wouldn’t have properly understood half of the things going on in the story. “No clear plot” my ass. You can really tell he couldn’t comprehend the plot since he made that statement. As the story progresses the characters ambitions are slowly formed and he realizes what he wants to truly do. That by the way is called “CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT”. Which a lot of novels do a very poor job at and the reviewer obviously didn’t notice. I could go on more, but I don’t really need to. <<less

Paladin of the End

The Faraway Paladin or Paladin of the End (as it is listed) is a very well written series and one of my all time favorites already even with it being fairly new. The Faraway Paladin is not your typical isekai novel and it most definitely doesn't have all the flaws that many other isekai novels have. You can tell shortly into volume 1 that this story is going to be special. First off, something that caught my eye when reading it was that even though this series is Japanese... more>> it doesn't really feel like your typical light novel and definitely has a "Western" style/feel to it which is also influenced by the translation. I still did not expect to have this refreshing feeling I got regardless of that. It really does help that this series has a very good English translation by J-Novel Club and they really do deserve way more attention. Secondly, the characters in this story are all very well written and they all really grow on you fairly quickly. There is such a variety of characters and they all fit their roles perfectly and everybody seems to have something interesting about themselves. Even the "villains" aren't purely evil! So far they all have their own reasons for what they do and why they do it and they won't easily change their ways just because you asked nicely. The amazing and unique world the author has created can only be enhanced when you have characters like these. I promise you won't be disappointed. <<less
