The Daily Life of the Immortal King

The problem with this story is that you have an OP character, in a similar fashion to someone like Saitama from One-punch man, except that this overpowered character is too "excellent" in all areas. Unlike Saitama who can only rely on his fist as his strength, this MC can do everything from one punch to reading minds and erasing memories at will. This is problematic as it doesn't lead to comedic situations or creative situations where they have to work around an issue. Rather, it becomes episodic as he completes... more>> his tasks with his complete encyclopedia of powers such as erasing the mind of the girl he saves.

Truly, there is no challenge or need for him to keep everything secretive when he can read their minds and memories as well as erase/replace their memories. There is a lack of continuity. There is a lack of creativity. There is some comedy, but it is overshadowed by the fact that he can do absolutely anything he wants with impunity.

You would think that this would be like most of the others in the genre: mindless harem. However, it only deals with one guy and one girl, both at opposite ends of the appearance spectrum. Even though the world's sense of beauty is reversed, he keeps his previous sensibilities, thus it's actually a strangely cute story of a couple dealing with the prejudices of the world.

With plenty of smut, of course.

It's good when it focuses on the main character and his exploits. However, the story makes the grievous mistake of telling the story of in-sequential side-characters, some of whom never meet the MC. There was literally an arc where only one out of four chapters focused on the MC. This is a ridiculous problem when most of those side characters never meet the MC before they die. What's the point?

I have to emphasize that I really do like it when it is focused on the MC, but the pointless focus... more>> on side characters' perspectives becomes absolutely ridiculous. <<less

This is a story about a guy reincarnating into a girl, a beautiful one. However, it is more like "a girl with memories of being a guy" at this point. Except for her disdain for males, what part of her is a guy? Even that bit is largely exaggerated, as if she has a trauma involving males instead of the fact that she once was a guy. None of the interests of her past life as a man survives the transition; instead, it focuses on her new life's interests like... more>> cooking. There is no real goal in this story. It is pretty much about a cute girl doing cute things surrounded by cute girls with the occasional handsome guy. Still enjoyable, but it is unfortunate that the potential is largely wasted. <<less

This is a story that was heavily inspired by Dark Souls (video game). That pervasive despairing and lonely atmosphere affects many of the characters due to the isekai world being a sealed underground empire in which they fight against the overwhelming curse of the undead.

Except for the main character who is in a different genre from everyone else! It's a fun and good read. I highly recommend it, especially for the distinct contrast.
