I really like the novel at first, it was a bit different then your typical cultivation story since they have spirits. Sadly, the main character just gets a lucky break one after another, has plot armor, a predictable story line, and picks a fight constantly. Seriously, I'm not sure if he's ever not had a fight after a chapter or two.

At first, the fights were more or less justified, but it quickly went out of hand. Oh, you thought I was lower class? Here, let me smack you around, kill... more>> you, etc.

It's not interesting to read at all at this point!

He also receives a lucky encounter constantly and basically gives his parents, who don't contribute to the story at all, cultivation material after cultivation material, without using any for himself. No worries though, he'll disappear for a month and suddenly have something new and shiny the very next chapter. <<less

Legend of the Great Saint

Only 45 chapters are out at this moment, but all 45 were a pleasure to read. Normally light novels are extremely boring/mediocre for the first 10 or so chapters, but that's actually not the case at all here. That's right, a LN author that actually wrote a good introduction, writing 101.

The MC isn't a douche and has a sense of justice that isn't twisted.

The pacing is fast and the story isn't full of filler. It has been a tad bit predictable thus far though. Ex: Author introduces x, protagonist gets x a few chapters later. It has only happened once so far; I have faith!

It's too early to really evaluate this novel more so, but the only thing it's honestly lacking at the moment is a overall plot (motivation). That... more>> sounds awful, lol, but it's still early. <<less

I've read a lot of translated novels over the past year and a half, but ATG has to be the slowest start of any novel I've read. I believe it was about 40 chapters in before the main character could start cultivating. Considering this is a cultivation story, that's pretty meh! Despite the pace, I continued on. The author often over describes everything. He'll tell you a dozen ways about something pointless. Eventually he does this less often, but it's still very annoying and he also starts repeating the same... more>> phrases to describe the same thing. They nodded their heads like chickens pecking rice (I enjoyed this analogy though) or every beautiful female looks like blah blah blah. It's a lot of the same stuff continuously. Sometimes the author will just go off path while writing. The MC is also extremely lucky, one lucky encounter after another.

Despite the author lacking proficiency, the story itself isn't too bad! The world building is nice and the combat isn't horrible.

But the real kicker, and the reason I stopped reading is because of the dumbassery of the harem. A MC getting a handful of girls I can understand and put up with, but our MC will literally just get everybody for no apparent reason. Oh, the author randomly described a rumor about a beautiful princess in a foreign country? I bet the MC will some how nail her too!

At one point he evens rapes somebody and then she magically falls for him.

TGR starts off with an interesting concept that makes you want to know what happened to the main character. In my opinion, the hype sadly wasn't worth the wait in finding out. Despite this, the main character isn't a scumlord and doesn't somehow attract every person in existence.

Sadly, TGR does a lot of things decently, but nothing really stands out, which would normally make me give a series 4 stars. The reason I'm giving it 3 stars instead is because the foreshadowing is just awful. Foreshadowing is a great tool... more>> for a author to build some hype for the characters, but this series will literally tell you exactly what's going to happen before it happens! For instance, main character found x, main character is now at a bottleneck and can't comprehend x, suddenly main character needs a solution. That thing he found 20 chapters ago, x, is the solution! This happens quite frequently and just ruined the story for me. <<less

The story isn't very compelling, but it's well written and the author created a pretty nice universe.

Like most IET stories, romance is secondary and not very well developed, but there's no harems going on or rape like you find in some inferior works that get translated. If the author introduces some real tragedy that motivates the MC, then I would up this to a 5 star review.

Occasionally the translation, especially during the earlier chapters, can get a bit confusing. It's mainly in terms of the main characters power level and... more>> monetary value of certain items. I've read other translated IET works, such as TNC and DE, so I believe it's the translation/editing at fault. <<less
