The Otherworldly Adventures of a Super Naive Girl

Just finished reading the final chapter of the raws that came out recently so I decided to give my thoughts. This is definitely one of my favourite Xianxia/Xuanhuan stories, the MC is a very lovable character and the supporting characters are also great. The villains however are mostly braindead and all of them are pretty much cut from the same cloth. The writing style is very comical and the multiple reincarnated protagonist plot is very interesting. Unfortunately for some reason the author decided to end the story in a rush, the story seemed to only be about 1/2 to 2/3 finished when suddenly a couple hundred chapters worth of content were crammed into a 3 chapter summary and the novel ended with multiple unresolved plots. While extremely disappointing the rest of the novel is definitely a great read and would rate everything except the ending 5/5.

So I bought the first volume and read up to part 6 of the second volume and I have to say this novel is ridiculously good so far. This is entirely subjective but I really like the main character, it's rare to read a novel with a religious protagonist these days and while I'm an atheist myself I find I can really relate to him on many levels. I find myself rather disappointed with how similar the protagonists of other novels are these days, with the typical arrogant and morally... more>> bankrupt xianxia MC's and the annoying humble and spineless japanese MC's that flaunt there japanese values everywhere they go. The MC of this novel moves on from his past life and fully embraces his current one. The supporting characters are also amazingly written as well as the world building. It is clear that the author has very ambitious plans for this work and the first volume is pretty much setting up a backstory. Although I have some concerns for the directions this story is heading in seeing as how by the end of the first volume

the MC is already pretty overpowered, it seems like in the future the author will either focus less on violent conflict or even more powerful enemies will appear and there will be some massive power creep.

Paying to Win in a VRMMO

While the story is quite different from the typical stuff and fairly refreshing the MC appears to suffer from a lack of character development and so far is quite one dimensional. Personally I find it difficult to relate to a character who flaunts his arrogance like a badge and masks his narcissism with a facade of politeness. I also find it disappointing that every conflict is solved with the MC throwing cash at the problem and feeling pride at being able to do so. Issues with the main characters aside,... more>> the story itself is all over the place. Many details are glossed over and the story only portrays important plot points but skips everything in between. As such a lot of meat is cut out from the story which makes for a quick read that doesn't require any deeper thought. All in all I'd describe this novel as shallow and superficial while relying on wish fulfilment to elicit reactions from the reader. Of course, things could change for the better in the second volume but we'll see.

P.S. One thing I forgot to mention is that this is a parody (albeit a poorly done one in my opinion) of the vrmmo genre where the main character is usually an overpowered solo player. The story itself is very self aware of that fact in that it makes mention that the battle is between a whale and a hardcore gamer. <<less
