Tondemo Skill de Isekai Hourou Meshi

I, Mukouda Tsuyoshi, was caught up in a summoning circle into a different world where sword and magical skills are the norm.

However, when the summoners cast ‘Status Appraisal’ on us, the three other people who were summoned with me had [Heroes from Another World] in the occupation box, whereas I was the [Random Guy Caught Up in the Summoning Spell].

As for our ‘Skill Set’, the three Heroes had outrageous sounding skills rolling after their names like [Holy Sword Technique], [Holy Spear Technique] and [Sacred Magic].

In fact, I too have a skill you know? My one skill is called… [Net Super]…

Because it’s clearly not a combat skill, I am automatically treated like garbage.

Furthermore, the King of the country who had summoned us looked really shady.

As a veteran lightnovel reader, I can read the atmosphere well enough to come to the conclusion that ‘This is a bad world to be summoned into’.

Thus, it is decided. No matter what, I must get out of this castle as soon as possible and escape from this rotten country!

Onestly I think it's an ok cooking novel.

The cooking parts are nice, so I find it an ok relaxing read, but everything else is just disappointing.

It's like if for any good thing there's a bad one and vice-versa.
For example I find the main cast much more interesting that the copy-paste harem team so many isekais have, but at the same time the dialogue is often very repetitive (especially during/after meals) and relationships between the main cast seem to never pregress, with almost no character development. As an example, I would have found very entrataining to have Feru and Mukouda's relationship become better with time, with Feru starting to respect Mukouda and Mukouda begin to see Feru as more than just the wolf he's stuck with; it almost seems like they just tollerate each other, like they aren't even friends.

Also they didn't make the MC an unbeatable fighting machine, which makes for nice moments in the dungeons, but since his companions are, the interactions with almost everyone are the classic ego-pandering "someone asks for an important favor, the MC solves it very easily, he gets a huge reward and then everyone clapped" sort of thing.

So onestly I think this novel is only an ok read if you want a relaxing cooking story and are fine with bearing through the cliches and boring parts.

It is very laid back and fun. The MC is a push over and im glad he is with the skill he has. Why give him something super OP when he is so cowardly? Its nice that he only ever really cooks and his familiars are the power that keeps him save. He needs to be able to keep them satisfied so that they don't run amok and at the same time he enjoys being their chef. Now if we didn't have to read pages of cooking and more character... more>> growth then I would give this a higher rating but as it is. <<less

At first it was amusing, fresh, and relaxing, but at one point it just started becoming boring for me.

He repeats the same pattern, defeat monsters, earn money, cook. Defeat monsters, earn money, cook. Of course there are plenty of fillers in between these, but it's basically the whole plot of this novel.

Its fine if you like those kind of slow life or cooking novels, but in this case, it might get boring after a while. Of course, you can enjoy it, the writing and translation is mostly smooth (kudos to... more>> the author and translator for that) , but the plot doesn't really work, since you know that the legendary Fenrir can beat almost every single monsters, so some crisis like a flock of wyverns flying around the city doesn't really bring out the kind of urgency the author might want us to feel.

The main character is overpowered, even if without the Fenrir, the slime or the dragon, he has a mithril knife, has the protection thingy from the goddesses (so most things can't hurt him, whether poison, traps, attacks, you get it...)

It had a lot of potential, and the arcs aren't even really arcs, it's just moving from different cities to another.

Read it if you will, but unless youre the type for a nichijou or just a very chill read, I don't think you'd be able to enjoy after 150+ chapters. Whether this novel is good or bad really depends on the reader. <<less

Traveling, going on adventures, cooking and eating, THE COMEDY IS THE BEST! The characters are hilarious and the story is amazing and the manga is awesome

(I don't think there's anything wrong with a coward character, it makes it more funny and it's ok to be scared of things you don't know about, it's kind of reassuring. And it's nice that there are no harem)

It's a simple story that's easy to understand. I went as far as MTLed the untranslated chapters, I wouldn't go that far if I don't enjoy it. What I found interesting here: MC is not OP, has an interesting unique skill, and a tamer as his job. Fer, Sui, and Dora are the stars of this series. The downside: MC is a total doormat, a wimp, a wuss... His character is fairly bearable. Although I don't expect a character development, regression is unacceptable. 300+ chapters, I couldn't continue anymore. Some... more>> people might still be able to enjoy this series since the story is fun, but having a decent MC for a story is the bottomline for me.

Completely spoiler:

Spoiler

Beside being a doormat throughout the series, he doesn't have any meaningful interaction with other characters. One notable person would be Elland, who MC trusted enough to share his secret and dived a dungeon together. However, it didn't get any deeper than that. Friendship? Comradeship? None. Characters exist to create dialogues, animals exist to be used.

His character went further down hill when he decided to buy s*aves. It wasn't well executed by the author. His character is already lame, but to be desperate enough to think of getting a s*x s*ave because he couldn't attract any free-will girl is just disgusting. Hope got crushed, they didn't sell any. So, he bought work s*aves like what's originally intended. And it creeped me out when He (age:27) asked a 5yo little girl to call him oni-san (brother) instead oji-san (uncle) ! She's also the only girl from the s*ave families' children. Just how low the author is trying to make him be?
His wussiness is insufferable to the point being disrespected by his s*aves. He cooked for them, yet the twin s*aves still took Fer's food (The breadwinner). Ofc, Fer gave the "don't mess with me" but Mukouda... I stopped at this point.

I think people were expecting a lot from the action tag or the premise, but it never said our MC wanted to be strong or has any problems being weak. It's a very chill novel, something you pass the time with but can stop anytime, doesn't hype you too much but it doesn't leave you empty as well. It's a slow plot, not exactly slow life for the MC, but plot-wise there doesn't seem to be much changes. Like I said, it's a simple novel. MC gets ridiculous familiars, stays... more>> normal and himself (so far?), just a typical modern guy with cooking skills. Nothing out of ordinary about him. Every chapter is either his business chores or getting dragged to an adventure with his battle maniacs.

Basically, if you want to read this novel, don't bring in any expectation and you'll enjoy this quite nicely. Just because there's isekai OP novels everywhere doesn't mean each one has to be. This is the break novel you're looking for. And I love it. <<less

I kind of like slice of life stories but this one is too generic, lacks of life and character motivation. There's a lot of filler chapters about food, about goddesses, about other characters that didn't add any depth to story...

The MC is your typical delusional school boy (you can ignore the fact that he is salary man, because he is not), Fenrir... Well... Is not a beast with age over 1000 years. All other characters is your typical generic NPCs from NES and SNES RPGs.

Ok. So I don't get why people don't like its laidback style. It's so unique. You can't find other Novels with such a laidback plot. I love it for that.

It's just about a male human who wants to live a normal life.

Not very action-based but it's still great. It lets you escape you everyday life quite easily and it's very calming.

Unless you are really into isekai-food-fantasy, I cannot recommend this novel. Everything - plot, characters, wordbuilding - comes as an afterthought arranged around the premise of the protagonist cooking up Japanese-ish dishes in another world. Said protagonist also worries a lot about danger and revealing his abilities, which becomes quite annoying later on
Spoiler

after he gets a divine blessing that makes him literally immune to any damage, poison and the like. On top of his pets being incomparable powerhouses that can also conjure up impenetrable barriers

[collapse]
It doesn't matter much though, because the plot is meh at best in the first place and every other chapter exclusively focuses on him cooking and feeding others.

The most positive thing I can say about the novel is that the translation quality is solid.

This is a drama-free isekai novel with unoriginal plot and bland characters. Read only if you have nothing else to read, or if you are really into the cooking stuff.

I am not expecting much from this novel but still manage to disappoint me, it is incredible feat considering I won't usually leave a review if a novel isn't worth enough reviewing.

This novel is showing readers "How to be a tool" or "How people can take advantage of you if you are dumb" novel.

First of all, the high rated reviews are misleading. Sure there are good things in this novel. But it is over shadowed by the cons. And the main thing that humans are good at is adapting to... more>> the environment you are in. That's why we survive and conquer the whole planet and come out top of the food chain. This here, in the novel. The MC didn't adapt to the environment he is put into and still some people like him because they see themselves in him. They have in common after all, being pathetic and die a dogs death. If it was not for the plot armor, the MC would have died a long time ago.

It is not fun to read a story if plot armor is always use. Author use your brain not your plot armor. <<less

Hello,

Translator here~

I choose this novel for one very good reason: Nothing happens.

... more>> That's right. I like it because Nothing Happens, literally!

No romance, no epic fights, no war, no huge economical changes, no great shifts in power (influenced by the MC, something happened, but it had nothing to do with the MC, not even peripherally).

It's great.

I know that some people will probably hate it, lol, all those one star reviews. However, I personally enjoy the epic nothingness. There's also the leisurely cooking, like, it was all lazy cooking using bullion cubes and instant soup mixes and ginger in tube. Minced ginger in tubes!! Sacrilege! Lol!

Also the title, I can't believe it's called Campfire Cooking of all things because if there's one thing the MC (or author) can't do is proper
Spoiler

barbecuing

...

Ahem, so, yeah. I got all the drama from that. Lol.

Who needs troublesome drama ?

This is what I live for~ <<less

I just came off from skim reading chapter 80... This novel did have other heroes in the beginning right? When will we ever get to having at least 1 or 2 chapters perspectives on them? This novel should honestly have its "action" genre tag removed, as there is hardly any action going on, since the protagonist doesn't do jack sh*t and leaves all the fighting to his minions - to which that usually ends in a matter of a few short sentences.

... You can tell from my reactions above... more>> that this novel isn't a good read at all, at least imho. Unless you're the type of person who loves cooking or love reading about cooking to death in every single chapter, you won't get much excitement reading this novel. Yes, I have watched other slice of life anime such as Natsume Yuujinchou, so I do love my share of slice-of-life from time to time, but even for me this novel is boring as heck. <<less

Food, and getting hungry and an interesting spin on isekais, just like the manga dungeon meshi where the focus is food, and a nice take on repeating plots. I recommend this solely because its different and feels fun despite being a short read

Don't expect anything great from this novel. This is just a simple, light hearted story about a guy who has a so very convenient skill in another world.

I am not a good reviewer, I'll just state the obvious. The story is pretty laid back, and will only continue slowly, I read to chapter 32 and I'm not sure if the novel is progressing or not. It just felt like they're happily, leisurely spent their time.

I am not a cook, or gourmet, and I don't really like or hate the cooking... more>> description in the novel although I feel that it's rough.

Well, read this novel if you have some useless time to spend, really, don't expect anything great from this novel. <<less

If you like summoned to a different world setting, maybe you will like this, I guess I can compare the story to shield hero-sama, but mellow type story and different kind of skills, I was also imagining that this might be a the different alternate and multiverse of shield hero-sama if you already finish the story of that you would understand it, the story is kind of slice of life, just like satou-san life including his food adventures, and yes the MC is kinda OP but not that totally OP... more>> that he can one punch the monster, one he has is a skill summoning different kind of foods and somehow he attracts OP monster. So if youre interested please do so read this novel I guarantee it that you will like. Also I guess I am a bit of bias about it but I kinda like the manga more because the setup of it is really same with the novel. Hopefully this will continue and will attract more people. <<less

I say this about a lot of LN stories, but this story has potential.

MC is op in the sense that he could break the world's economy, and the giant mythical wolf that follows him is the OP 'power' which also gets him valuable goods that have nothing to do with his own powers.

The writing is better than other stories i've read; I just hope the translator comes back. Will edit for a more detailed review later when more chapters come out, but for now I would recommend this only to... more>> people that are patient enough to wait for more releases. <<less

I'm writing this after reading Chapter 12. Despite the slow pace, the story is really starting to move along. He's gained his first familiar. From the cover art, I can see that he'll encounter probably at least one more. He's dual registering with the merchant guild and the adventurer guild because his pet brings back high-quality prey for him to cook and the leftovers can be sold to the adventurer guild. I think this story has a ton of potential. The translator just announced that they are dropping the series,... more>> though. Guess, this is another could-have-been, unless it's picked up. <<less

Not impressed by the setting, it seems a rip-off from konjiki no wordmaster and the writing style also doesn't seem all that great. Still, it's only the first chapter and the translator has done a wonderful job (it doesn't look like MTL at all) so I'll stick with it for a few more chapters.

I see a lot of 1-star review on this one. That's why I feel like I have to express my feelings as well.

Most of the people who gave it 1-star review said almost the same thing: it's boring, there's nothing, the MC is weak, it's not the typical isekai, and so on. But because it's not all of those typical Isekai it's actually good.

Yes, the MC is weak. Why? Because since the first time he came to the world, his occupation stays "Victim from Another World." He never wanted to... more>> be hero, and he could never be hero. He had capability to do magic, but the monsters he had to face during his adventuring days not the monsters that he could slay by himself.

This is not the type of the Isekai novel, where the protagonist so hella strong without doing almost anything (Yes, I still hold grudge over SAO, even to this day), because they're blessed as "Hero". Our MC, Mukohda, didn't even want to be adventurer, but he had to register because no one else can butcher his familiar's food for him. Imagine: the very weak man with almost no skill and got caught up in summoning, then he got familiar who is gluttonous and ridiculously strong, and he needed to cater to their needs. The monsters they fought range from B-rank to S-rank monsters, how the hell can he slay those monsters?

There's also no harem. Mukohda even had to get a broken heart many times because he got not girls and only familiars with him. He even called the goddesses "disappointment" many times, because to him, they're just people who are greedy over otherworld things.

The power of Mukohda as MC is to see people as people, and it's the same as all his familiars. While people got terrified over Fel the Fenrir, he is the only one who thinks that Fenrir is just a gluttonous doggie. That's why the Fenrir, and all the other familiars who came along in the story at the end, like him because he never once tried to use their power for anything.

Again, this is not your typical Isekai novel. If you expect so many fanservices with girls roaming around the Hero, and them throwing themselves to the Hero because he saved their lives once (JUST ONCE), it's not here. The MC is also not the most powerful, because he was never one, and it's his familiars who are ridiculously strong.

It's one of my most favorite Isekai novel after so many years reading Isekai novel and watching Isekai anime. I got bored when it's another OP hero or the hero with harem, or both. It's so boring. I'm tired of reading the same type of novel over and over again. Thankfully, this one was different and gave me a good laugh in every chapter. It's the novel that I love and would like to have the paperback for collection. <<less
