i think for the name of this novel is more like "farming simulator - kill monster for farming" or "slim dungeon - kill the slim to get vegetable"

juste boring you can skip like 2/3 of the chapter and the monster are... weak or strong? he as S in strenght and other but he as a hard time vs slim... how are the other alive? when they has E-D state

The early story is actually kinda good/fun, if you just want a simple relaxing daily life story where things just kinda fall into place naturally without any real effort needed or conflicts transpiring, but honestly it doesn't stay good for very long, at all. (If your interested in it, I'd recommend the first 8 chapters, maybe the first 20 at most, at least up till that point the author cared enough to not just add random stuff and then pretend anything inconvenient to the next narrative going the way the... more>> author wants never happened instead of coming up with a reason for why the next narrative still goes the way it goes)

At first all the story really consists of are the characters, they start out as rather simple minded peaceful people to the point of coming off as one dimensional, but they're well implemented so they're fun, but pretty early on the characters simply become really dumb card board cut outs of they're former selves and/or random tropes, plus really unaware of their surroundings, at around the same point in which that happens the story transitions from being about the characters to being about the MC getting involved (regularly) in unnaturally implemented and all around uninteresting developments that he then proceeds to resolve via the use of his gun (s) and the ever so "convenient" magical bullets with their ever changing based on the scenario abilities. He spends quite a lot of his time farming (grinding) for bullets and then immediately squandering them despite not "really" needing them practically ever, under the false pretext of efficiency (he spends more time farming bullets than he would simply getting things done without using bullets, several chapters worth more). (Oh right I should mention from that point on he just kind of does wasteful/s*upid stuff at random and has it magically turn out to have been either not entirely squandered in the sense that at least he lucks out and doesn't experience any particularly bad consequences as a result of his actions or his actions turn out to have been the right choice since something convoluted ends up happening out of nowhere to justify them)

example 1 of MC's efficiency : items spawn where the monster is killed therefore he picks up the monsters and throws them towards his cart shooting them before they land so that the item lands in the cart, instead of say simply squeezing them with his hand insta-killing them and just throwing the item...

example 2 of MC's efficiency: it takes 1 punch, 1 magic bullet, or 5 normal bullets to kill this type of monster, so far I've been beating them with one punch but for the sake of efficiency I'll use 2 guns so that I can shoot 2 magic bullets at it instead of just 1 magic bullet... (once you learn how he grinds for magic bullets this will become even more frustrating to read him do, put simply he's doing three times as much and taking three times as long at least to do things compared to if he simply didn't use bullets)

example 3 of MC's efficiency: I don't know if I have enough magic bullets to both make it there and escape therefore I'm going to use one to kill my opponent and another just for the heck of it really (he needed the magic bullets for the first time but wasted half of them on something he'd always done by hand prior to that point, why? I guess he suddenly forgot that he could do it by hand? no good explanation was ever given), *later that scene* I've made it here but I'm out of magic bullets and my fists aren't working therefore I'm going to have to run, it's not like the opponents can leave their areas (they'd die) or really harm me in any meaningful way anyway (he really didn't even "need" to fight, had he not fought on his way in he wouldn't even have needed to "worry about the possibility" of having created rouge monsters on the way in something that didn't happen) in the end as he's finally running away instead of trying to kill the monsters for no reason, a character appears in a place that the particular character had no way of getting access to (the character would've died in route if they tried going there) and bringing along something that they had no way of bringing, so that the MC could grind for bullets and kill the monsters instead of running and so he grinds bullets and kills the monsters scenario end (yeah the author just glosses over the character managing to get there and how they brought something they couldn't actually bring). (NOTE: in that particular scene the reason why magic bullets were needed was because magic bullets invoke/cast magic something the MC himself can't do, and only magic was effective against the monsters in this development, the reason the MC had to do it was because all methods of invoking/casting magic were currently impossible to use due to a magic storm... magic bullets invoke/cast magic that's all... they aren't supposed to work but since they're "supposed to be" the necessary for the MC to kill the monsters they just did, why? cause they just did, okay, the author just glosses over everything that happened in that chapter from then on aside from how yeah the magical bullets turned out to be needed for something for once (but not really though...) and he managed to use the magic bullets to accomplish his mission) <<less

What kind of story is this? It's meant to be a light fun read. That is it.

It isn't meant to be deep, and somethings don't make too much sense. But who cares? It's not meant to be realistic or be logical...

MC levels up cause he can level up. MC has a gun because he has a gun. It's just that simple. You aren't supposed to over think this story or anything.

The world doesn't work? A society where everything comes from dungeons make no sense? There are trees in the world,... more>> contradicting all of this?

Does any of that even matter? It's just a fun concept done with a light story that we can enjoy.

If this was a more logical world that was supposed to be grounded or something, I'd understand some of the complaints... but this story is like the 2d platform Mario and people are expecting it to be Uncharted... that's what it feels like to me.

It's a nonsensical world that is just supposed to be enjoyed and read as it is.

It's like how many myths and legends also don't make much sense. Not every fictional story has to be logical or fit into some sort of logical world. This isn't supposed to be an overly logical world... it's a world that's just supposed to be fun... like if you suddenly lived in a video game, but not the modern ones with a great story, but the kind that would be on a 2d Zelda game... with the same logic...

You get money from monsters, you get items from monsters, you get materials from monsters, you get weapons from monsters. It's just one huge video game that makes little sense.... <<less

As usual, turn off your brain to enjoy the story. Don't expect logic and reason here and ylu will enjoy is for sure. It is simple and best enjoyed when your taking a break from a complicated and long winded wuxia novel.
Spoiler

the major thing I can't shake of is thay everything except air, water and earth comes from monster drop and will become monsters is left unattended.. even tr*sh so...

how about the daily necessities like clothes and stuff like that? I mean you don't only have 1 set of clothes, so others you keep aside but then won't they become monsters too?

well, as I said, turn off your brain and you'll enjoy it

Edgelords gets a gun like dungeon seeker & arifuta (even got goddam motorcycle) no give a damn.

A fluffy story got a gun. People call it s*upid, saying "A GUN IN A WORLD OF SWORD AND MAGIC? DAMN SO s*upid."

People complaining about the generic MC. People this is a Japanese lights novel I'm pretty sure it's aimed a Japanese market. If Japan wants this kind of MC, then Japan will give these kind of MC. Deal with it, or just don't read Japanese light novel.

My biggest complain is that the author is really not good minimaxing. All that talk about increasing grind efficiency, while ignoring 2x drop ring. It's damn 4x increase for bullet production!!!

Also, MC ignores melee weapons. Oh, he also maxes stats one by one instead of balanced increase. And for some reason, his low endurance have no negative effect on his ability to fight/grind for prolonged periods of time.

He ignores the possibility of strengthening his flatmate through drop-sharing cart for far too long. Well, it might not work because it's possible... more>> that seed are not bound to the one who killed monster, but it's worth to check. And his money-grinding speed would increase significantly.

So it's really hard to believe all that efficiency talk by author. <<less

The MC has S ranked HP & Strength but he is using a gun. I don't know if he is afraid of the monsters because he is using a gun or is he an idiot wasting his cheat stats.

I would be really really shock if this novel is adapted to manga or anime. Well lets hope its not gonna be adapted to anything and just scrap this novel to pieces.

Im going to be honest with you, I have zero idea why I kept reading this. It was one of those things where I read it for like a day and a half straight and then just kind of realized that it was complete garbage.

SO, don't do what I did. This story is in no way shape or form worth it.

Here are some SUPER surface level issues with the story.

-Absolutly nothing for a backstory, legitimately nothing. Who is he, where is he from, how did he get here, where are... more>> we now? You will never find out any of this.

-There is zero structure for the magic system. The author just thinks of something random and makes magic do it.

-He is beyond OP but insists on using guns in a fantasy world of sword and magic. (Btw, the only character to use guns and absolutly no one stops to ask "what are those strange weapons you are using")

-MC is homophobic. Its suppose to be a joke but it's... jarring.

-The there is this weird create a harem but then pretend like the harem doesn't exist vibe going on. Which makes me ask wtf the harem creation was for.

The ONLY redeeming factor

-The concept of the world could have been cool. BUT, the author even managed to mess that up because he turned the concept itself into a plot hole because he didnt know where to stop. Now the very laws of nature's in this world basically make it so this world shouldn't exist at all. <<less

As the other reviews have said, this is for very light, casual reading. "What the hell is up with the setting?!", you ask? "Don't worry about it" - the novel itself almost tells you, lol.

(+) many many easy to digest (short) chapters

(+) creativity and variety in MC's daily life (I don't want to call it plot)

... more>> (+) supporting characters are at least one level above 'npc robot'

(+) it's at least not cliche/dull like the other novels of this level so it doesn't piss you off

(-) pretty mediocre and lazy writing; you'll be remarking "well that's convenient" and every other chapter

(-) MC is a doormat, but that's related to the point above and is needed to move the story along, so why bother making MC something more

(-) stop teasing relationship development if you don't intend to do anything about it <<less

Starts with a strange idea but soon develops.

It's helped by the writers simple and clean style. Most of my reading list is the same type or style but half of them can't keep it. This one does, up to ch155 atm.

TL. DR: the novel has many problems, but is actually fun to read. Give it a try. I was able to ignore most of the problems and enjoy the comedy part.

This novel has many, many, a great many problems. There are huge plot holes and severe lack of logic everywhere. Every chapter would contain some sort of contradiction. For example, there is a monster that no one has ever defeated, but for some reason, there are drops from that monster available for sale. Another thing that ticks me off all... more>> the time is that bullets are flying at a dodgeable speed and they are visible to the naked eye. From a distance of apparently less than a 100 meters, the bullets can fly in a weird arc, be dodged after they have been fired and everyone can see the path bullets take. Overall the way MC operates guns is one of the biggest flaws in the novel.

However, the biggest problem, in my opinion, is that MC is ret*rded. I can't think of any novel off the top of my head where MC would be dumber than here. Several girls kissed him and confessed to him, and he is still wondering why they kissed him. The relationships are not progressing at all. I honestly don't expect any type of progress with romance in this novel. And it is not just romance. The way he does his research is s*upid, the way he fights is ret*rded, the way he holds himself is on a level of 10-year old. Honestly, most events just happen to aid him, and thus he became successful. It's like the whole world was built to help MC. One after another coincidences pile up for him to progress. There are seriously so many problems with his behavior, that I would need several pages to just list all of them. Just as an example, he could've made a teleport device between several long-distance locations and use it. It would fit nicely with the story and it would show that he is actually thinking. But no, he does not have any idea about it, and instead, the author just throws a house at him where there is a secret door with a teleport between dungeons built in.

Despite all that, this novel did not actually bore me! It was a fun read. The comedy part is pretty funny. I just love all interactions with the bunny. The bunny is the best character in the novel! I was laughing pretty often and enjoyed my time. <<less

So to get it out of the way I will talk about the translation. It's only ok. There are pretty frequent grammar mistakes but not so often to make it unreadable. There are far worse translators out there but it's far from the best. Not much more can be said about it.

Now for the reason that I gave this series such a low score. The MC (or more likely the author himself) is a complete idiot. And not the goofy haha kind of idiot. The kind of idiot who can't... more>> do simple mathematical comparisons to decide what his best actions are. Up ahead are some spoilers for the first 30 chapters or so, so nothing really major.

Spoiler

The MC starts with the worst possible stats he can have but early on learns a way to raise them one at a time to inhuman levels- all in matter of days. The first stat he raises is HP, which also seems to include defense stats as well, though the novel never actually says that directly. After maxing it out he moves on to raising his strength stat. So far so good right? Makes sense to make sure you pretty much can't die before focusing on offensive stats.

The problem is that shortly after he starts raising his strength he gets his hands on a one of a kind gun. Which he proceeds to waste basically all the ammo for on small fry enemies that he could have literally beat to death with his bare hands. If he didn't conveniently learn a way to get a basically endless supply of ammo then he would have run out of bullets in one day, which btw he started with something like 200 bullets. That's a little annoying but I could put up with it.

The next problem is that he keeps using the gun long AFTER his strength is increased to the point where he can hit harder than the gun does. By this point he has secured a cash supply that would likely be able to buy him a house of his own if he was to keep at it for a month, and yet he has yet to buy any proper weapons for himself that can take advantage of his inhuman strength, nor armor of any kind. His excuse for not fighting close quarters? It's too dangerous and inefficient. Would be a fair point if he hadn't already taken hits to the head that supposedly had enough force to knock down a house, without feeling any pain and sent people twice his own weight flying with a single punch. Furthermore everything he fights in his day-to-day life is weak enough that a regular person could kill one with a particularly sharp, or particularly blunt stick.

To be fair, he does eventually get a supply of bullets with magical effects, like freezing an enemy or setting it on fire but including the time it takes to farm those it would still be quicker to just buy a sword or hammer or something and go nuts on the enemies. Especially considering that all of the enemies he fights are either slimes or slow moving undead. It is infuriating. Just save the special bullets for when they are needed and use a regular weapon the rest of the time.

Furthermore he is making literally a fraction of the money he could be if he just used the slightest bit of logic. In this world all objects are dropped by monsters in dungeons. That includes all foodstuff- all vegetables, meats, fish, etc. Everything is dropped by monsters in dungeons and nothing is grown or raised. The MC makes a living by going into dungeons and hunting monsters that drop veggies.

A few chapters in he gets a cart that will calculate how much he will get by selling what is in said cart. So the MC goes to each floor of a dungeon and fills it with that floor's signature drop to compare how much each one will sell for. I do not remember the exact prices used here but he decides that the best thing for him to farm and sell would be beans because out of them, carrots, and pumpkins, a cart full of beans sells for the most.

However, a cart full of pumpkins would sell for the equivalent of only a few dollars less while only needing 4 pumpkins to fill the cart. So get this, he decides it would be better to have to hunt down dozens of enemies to fill his cart full of beans (wasting even more bullets which he will have to farm separately later) instead of just hunting down 4 easy enemies for pumpkins which would make it so he can make more trips in the same time period it would take to fill the cart full of beans once. And the enemies that drop pumpkins are neither rare nor strong. In fact they are numerous, and weak. In fact, when he first met them it was a swarm of them, which left the corridor completely blocked by pumpkins when he was done with them. The only downside to going for pumpkins is that the enemies that drop them are deeper in the dungeon. But it never really says how long it takes to go down a floor of the dungeon. It can't be long though, as if it took even half an hour to go down a floor he wouldn't have enough time in a day to do any of the stuff he does.

[collapse]

This series is full of s*upid decisions and inconsistencies which I just can not be bothered to talk any more about. I haven't even mentioned how flat and uninteresting the characters are. In the end, I simply can not recommend anyone with even half a brain to read this. There are much better series out there. If you want something with an overpowered MC that actually has decent characters to back it up maybe try something like Jingai Musume or Death Mage or something. Both of those do OP MCs right. (Though both do them VERY differently. Jingai Musume is very light hearted and somewhat sweet at times while Death Mage goes straight up epic and somewhat terrifying with an MC that would probably give C'thulu a run for his money by the current chapter.) <<less

This story is wish fulfillment at its finest. The Protagonist, let's call him Yoda-san because Emily is our goddess, was accidentally summoned to this broken world and works towards making both himself and the world a better place. There are a few interesting points about this world:

  1. This world is broken. I don't mean "oh it's broken because MC is OP blah blah blah", but specifically, that everything in this world comes from monster drops, even air and water. If a monster drop is left alone it will turn back into a more powerful monster. This world doesn't make sense and that's what makes it endlessly entertaining.
  2. Yoda-san will fight to destroy black companies and that's always going to be a feel good.
  3. Emily is our Goddess.

Warning: If you read other than just skimming over the chapter to waste time, there's a chance this novel will cause brain damage.

The only positive about the story is that side characters are fun, but thinking at all while reading the plot, setting, and main character's thoughts and actions just makes my head hurt with how inconsistent everything is. Items and abilities that can change everything get introduced, then ignored. Each arc ignores or changes the setting's rules from what you've seen so far. There are loose ends after every... more>> arc that never get addressed, too. Other reviewers get into specifics, but there's still worse than what I've seen mentioned in reviews.

If you must read, skip everything but interactions with side characters. Doing that makes it palatable, even if it's less than 1/5 of the novel.

This novel has a fighting chance of being the single worst novel on NU. <<less

First of all, I would rather have given this a 1.5 but that's not possible hence the 2/5. Honestly can't get much further, I may read a chapter here and there in the future but here are some thoughts to keep in mind if you're considering reading this novel:

  • The stats are nonsense
    • Luck has no purpose? - I imagined it would affect at least the chance of specific things dropping but it seems like w/e is the MC needs is what drops, despite the story starting with Slimes dropping both bean sprouts and air/water he always gets bean sprouts. The fact those bean sprouts are maxed quality and quantity can be explained by the S ranked vegetable drop, but the fact they drop at all should have been affected by his F ranked luck IMO.
    • He gets a gun - stat wise one would expect his ability to use said gun be affected by his dexterity which is also F-ranked. Instead he pretty much one-shots/headshots everything after getting it.
    • Speed/Mentality/Endurance are all F ranked yet he doesn't have any difficulty dealing with caves full of monster which he would not be used too, he has no problem dodging even on the third floor of a dungeon, and finally his endurance apparently lets him continuously work for a full day of hard labour. an A ranked adventurer must not even need to sleep if we go by this guys endurance at F-rank.
  • The dialogue for me was somewhat confusing - especially Eve's. It could be the translation but it's just hard to follow sometimes.
  • The world is completely illogical
    • How would you ever have enough air for survival if it required killing monsters who only sometimes actually drop air.
    • following this logic you would have a barren wasteland with zero water sources
    • Having items revert to a monster when left alone for a period of time is nonsensical to the extreme. how do they store the items he's selling them. This world would have collapsed into a monster infected barrens within moments of creation.
  • OMFG a gun... WHY? What a story killing device. I know guns are fun for some people but its thematically not appropriate for the story. Nor does it seem like a weapon a businessman from Japan who spent his entire life overworking would be familiar with in any way. The story would have been better off with him using a hammer or spear.
  • I can't say much on the girls at the moment, Emily seems alright, I feel a bit bad about Elza since the MC ignores her all the time but its honestly the only part that can be justified since his Intelligence is also F-ranked and thus he may just be a dense moron. Eve is interesting considering her obsession with carrots and being a bunny girl.
Overall there isn't much here to appreciate. I did give this at least 2 stars because the translation is readable and the story does have an interesting premise, it's... more>> just poorly executed. Maybe I'll read more over time. If I do I'll update with new impressions as I go along. Hope this helps some of you looking at this story in the future. <<less

You know, in isekai the setting is usually the weakest link of all the story elements. Things break down if you give them an iota of thought. There's this boilerplate "template" that 99% of isekai follow that doesn't actually make much sense if you compare it to human history - but that's fine, it's fantasy, you can handwave a lot away with that magic word. Fantasy.

But this novel has some truly next-level terrible world building. It's like the author deliberately set out to make the most unbelievable nonsense possible as... more>> the foundation of his fantasy world and then just passes it off completely straight-faced. Other reviewers have gone into the specifics of the nonsensical elements of the setting, so really I'm just preaching to the choir here, but I still feel obligated to leave this review. Because it really is Just. That. Bad.

As for the generic "become strong, collect girls" isekai plot we all know and love... well, it is what it is. Familiar. It's serviceable, but nothing really novel or anything. However, trying to "enjoy" the plot will require you to willfully ignore the terrible world building and that is a... difficult thing to do. But it's not impossible I suppose.

At the end of the day, if you like the genre, then you might be able to like this too. But I would recommend thoroughly exploring your other options first. Death March is up to volume 17 at time of this writing and it's more or less the same thing. Or Gun-ota if gunplay in fantasy land tickles your fancy. Or any of the ones in the recommended section. Or you know, any of the other millions of similar isekai out there. <<less

The story is interesting, the concept of manu dungeons to explore, hero getting rich, and surprise items is also very fun to read, it’s a shame the author sometimes forgets what he made up previously and doesn’t use it since sometimes the story doesn’t make sense or it coulh have been dealt with easier. Also there’s a lot of repetition the the characters’ reactions « gratitude » « affection » « embarrasment » even « hate » are always expressed the same it’s a bit annoying and the childish parts... more>> of the novel break the nice parts’ pace. TLDR: Quite a bit I find problematic in this novel, but it doesn't matter at all, the side characters outshine everything. Worth a read.

Not a fan of the premise of this novel and aside from that it seems pretty inconsistent.

The premise is that everything in the world is born from monster drops in dungeons, but if these are left at a certain distance away from human lifeforms/activity it will turn into something known as "rogue monsters", this in itself is problematic, but let's first talk about the world, since everything... more>> is born from dungeons that means that everything above ground will be a total wasteland aside from towns, it is described as nothing but dirt, water and stones. Water and air comes from monster drops too by the way, but they don't turn into rogue monsters. Later on the scenery from a mountain top is descibed as a world of green, thought there was no grass? later again trees are mentioned for some reason, inconsistent...

The fact that everything is made from monster drops and will turn into rogue monsters is problematic since it doesn't seem like processed goods are free from this, that means that if you make a town, there will be areas that are free from human activity at some point. The houses and everything in them should turn into rogue monsters, but this doesn't happen though, why? Inconsistency... Of course you couldn't have this happen or else you couldn't create any form of civilization, that is why I dislike the premise.

Although I find the premise problematic and think that any human being from earth thrown into a world that's a wasteland would fall to depression from not being able to see any signs of nature ever again, I like this novel quite a bit, it's all about the characters carrying the novel, the MC aside that is.

The MC has an IQ that's below absolute zero, then again, it's all about other people asking him to do things or giving him inspiration, so it isn't that bad since although he's a moron, other characters will make up for it, for example Emily, she's a wonderful character and the nodesu/nanodesu is as cute as ever, then we have Eve. she's a weirdo but insanely loveable, those two are what keeps you reading.

Aside from these there's the shop receptionist that's sweet aswell, a "princess" where I'm not sure if she's actually one or just some ojou-chan that's called a young princess of the house, which will grow on you aswell, just not to the extend of the previous ones. There are two other team members that I haven't mentioned, they aren't as unique and thus don't have as big an impact on the reader, yet they're still not bad.

Talking about anything else you would normally focus on in a novel is redundant, it's all about the characters and they are wonderful, so I would still recommend this novel. <<less

Too summarize it

    • Too obvious plotholes or forgotten plots
    • Ruined leveling/stats system (S - SS rank stats are not so special except for drops stats)
    • Brick or Hetare Protagonist (I think he needs to get r@ped for any actual romantic progress he got kissed but after one day he forgets it)
    • Inconsistent personality or MC just being dumb to control MC OPness
    • MC being worshipped too much its cringey
    • The market/currency of the world is terrible (MC earning around 100 million is enough to make him 3rd world richest yet what about those who earn hundreds of millions? I mean there are stores able to pay Millions like it is nothing)
    • MC being a bit too good as he helps almost everybody who needs helps it borders being a hypocrite
    • Too many unecessary time skips or author just got bored of the plot and scrapped the idea
      Spoiler

for example when MC got invited on a date by Margaret the chapter is only about talking while going to the date spot then *bam* next chapter its already the next day... You trolling me? There are many cases like these that it became an episodic troll filler (?)

      [collapse]
    • Also it irks me that MC don't try to increase party members stats, iirc MC has a magic which let's party member have the same S rank drop rate as him when cast on enemy before being killed by others, so what if he used it on the nihonium dungeon, won't they be able to get the seed for stats, it was not proven that only MC can pick the seed, so far only those who drop the seed can pick them up (MC only so far) but what if the seed is a bound item to killer of monster not because MC is MC

Very very light reading. Read this when you didn't want to use your brain to think. The characters (especially the girls) are adorable, but the MC is painfully s*upid that I can't stop punching something every few chapters. So yeah, at least the girls can substitute for MC (non-existent) brain.
