Trash of the Count’s Family

When I opened my eyes, I was inside a novel.

[The Birth of a Hero].

[The Birth of a Hero] was a novel focused on the adventures of the main character, Choi Han, a high school boy who was transported to a different dimension from Earth, along with the birth of the numerous heroes of the continent.

I became a part of that novel as the tr*sh of the Count’s family, the family that oversaw the territory where the first village that Choi Han visits is located.

The problem is that Choi Han becomes twisted after that village, and everyone in it, is destroyed by assassins.

The bigger problem is the fact that this s*upid tr*sh who I’ve become doesn’t know about what happened in the village and messes with Choi Han, only to get beaten to a pulp.

“…This is going to be a headache.”

I feel like something serious has happened to me.

But it was worth trying to make this my new life.

This is probably the best novel I've ever read.

I came for the transmigration tag and stayed for the amazing plotline and worldbuilding. The characters are all so well developed and each arc and overall story progression is so smoothly executed. I usually get bored reading long updates but with TCF I find myself begging for more. I love the relationship between all the characters and the familial bonds they form. I laugh at all the misunderstandings and coo at how cute and fluffy some scenes are. Cale is such a... more>> likeable MC and I LOVE how there are no harems or unnecessary romantic love pursuits (which unfortunately plagues the isekai genre and takes away from the whole being transported to another world appeal in my opinion).

The translators have done such a wonderful job making it a cohesive and easily readable novel! Definitely worth your time I PROMISE you won't regret it. <<less

TL;DR: I would say, try it and see if its your thing, but it clearly its not mine. No harem, no romance at all at least to the part I read, very little action, mostly just politics and relations with other people.

So I get what people were saying as the good and the bad points, its not a harem that is very positive for me.

The MC is kinda unique in his own way, the way the novel goes with their relationship is unique too, but that is not only positive... more>> because their relations and trust are build on the misunderstanding of the characters with a bunch of situations and the MC really doesn't care or is scamming people on believing that.

The MC keeps saying he doesn't want to get involved but keeps doing that, and that makes me annoyed, either say you wanna do it and do it, or say you don't wanna do it and don't do it, just be f*cking honest.

Anyway I stuck with this novel for so long because of one character (very early and vague spoiler)
Spoiler

the black dragon

because he is the best in this entire novel but that is not enough to carry all the other useless and emotionless characters, that just blindly follow after a little while of unique interactions. It feels that they only have a personality for a few chapters after that they just do what the MC says without questioning anything or even doing what their personalities are supposed to do. <<less

Just started a few days ago, and I'm addicted based on the chapter I'm on currently. The writing is amazing, the plot is intense but also comical at times, the fight scenes are very descriptive, some situations evoke emotions where you can even feel pity for the villains/anti-heroes (no spoilers), and there's also the best kind of friendship and companionship. Yeah, so what if there's no canon romance involving the ML atm? There're still some fanservice to give shippers what they want. I'm just glad the author isn't forcing down... more>> a romance down my throat like some popular works, because I know some fans prefer romance in their novels. It's tough finding epic, adventure novels that focus more on the journey and not just so your oppa can get with your unni or with the other oppa (I'm not sorry, I just don't want any romance hetero. Or homo.). This is a rare gem. I'm so thankful for starting this and will continue to read! I just wanted to share my thoughts and hope others will give it a try. <<less

When I started reading this novel I was interested in the premise of a world is a novel. I was in love with the material because of my expectations waiting for something different without the cliche that it's invading this type of novel nowadays.

In the end, didn't reach that good quality, sometimes I wonder if the author does not realize that he is repeating a lot of scenes I mean the MC getting a beating and afterward ¡surprise! he had a plan all along is something repeated, again and again,... more>> what really gets me is when the plans and the actual events of the main story happens in the same way without the risk or element of surprise, I've got a feeling when the MC said what he's going to do after the final arc it is going to be the ending without anything more to add.

The emotional parts... just are.. how to say it? :S cringe they feel forced and out of place like (it is good that there are parts like these but not in that way).

I believed the Japanese writers were the only ones who used repetition this shameless way but I was wrong. <<less

This is a really entertaining read. I’ve been following daily since the translations started and it’s been quite a joy to read this first thing in the morning. Yes, this does repeat a lot of character explanations and phrases, and yes there is more tell sometimes than show, but the action is really fantastic and intrigue and overall world plot even more so. Lots of foreshadowing and mysteries left to uncover, and while it’s not some grand political scheme the amount of plots and scamming involved are really fun and... more>> keeps you on the edge of your seat (because even though *initially* Cale knew the plot, pretty much everything went against expectations so he had to constantly adapt on the fly), and now he doesn’t have any idea about the original plot so he’s just doing his best against a very powerful enemy while trying to protect the world.

just give it a read and you’ll be hooked <<less

So everyone's written their opinions, which I won't add to as it's quite encompassing as it is.

What I want to critique on this (very good) novel is the pacing of the story.

The MC can be quite ruthless and calculating (even when it's a misunderstanding, which it is for most of the times) so it really is enjoyable reading how MC manages to totally subvert the plans of his enemies and drop them into utter chaos.

The problem is that those arcs when the MC is "active" are quite drawn out,... more>> with several chapters wherein just one or two actions are being taken, but otherwise filled with filler material like unnecessary dialogs and monologs pertaining to how MC is going to do this or that to his enemies.
This gets particularly bad with chapters 300+...

Equally problematic are the "down times", when the MC isn't "active", like recuperating from the last arc or doing some side-missions. The length of those down times can stretch quite long, with tens of chapters without anything happening of worth. And then we go to the next arc.

This up and down really messes up the pacing of the overall story, which really gets worse with chapters 300+.
You can really read the intention of the author wanting to artificially lengthen the storyboard, just to churn out more chapters.

The story could've been completed by now with quite the satisfying ending, but gets dragged out.

I've been ignoring this novel for some time in order to have some chapters to binge-read, just to see if it helps with the story pacing.
With over 50 saved chapters and reading them one after the other, I have to come to the conclusion that the pacing is still bad. After 30 or so binge-read chapters I had to stop and read something else, just to shed the feeling that I've been getting s**ked into a bog of mediocrity.

I hope the author brings this story to an end soon, as it really doesn't help this otherwise 5/5 novel build some well needed tension. <<less

The tr*sh of the Count’s Family is an amazing novel to read, the flaws it has are balanced by the strong story, wonderful action/intrigue, and great pacing. I would highly suggest it, in part because the story reads more like a novel than a traditional webnovel or light novel.

The novel is based around a MC who has transmigrated into the body of a character from his favorite book series. The MC then uses his knowledge from the book to avoid death and become involved in world politics. Like most good... more>> transmigration novels the MC’s actions quickly begin to move the story away from the plot of the novel and force him to demonstrate abilities other than just knowledge.

The Good:

The story has a good storyline that is engaging, drawing you into the events that are happening and making you want to know how it all turns out, while also being complicated. While the story does introduce a lot of new problems at every turn, unlike many novels the story actually resolves many of the plot lines and brings things from previous plot lines back later on. The MC rarely every meets anyone who doesn’t show up later in the story but the author does a great job of making each character stick out so that you haven’t forgotten who they were when they show up again.

The story also has a great pace, the novel always seems to be on the move and after 300 chapters the novel feels like it could have easily been over a 1000 chapters already when compared to other novels. There is always a feeling of advancement and it rarely feels like the story is stalling or pointless, everything matters and everything is pushing forward.

The novel also has great character development! One of the most important parts of the story is the way various characters change and evolve as the story goes on, the weak become strong and the strong become weak. Many of the characters have deep emotional scars which are explained, shown and then slowly developed along with the story. Very little of the character development seems forced or unnatural, though at times it can seem as though the MC is controlling everything even though they shouldn’t be able too.

The Bad:

The character development of some characters is amazing but other characters get left in the dust. Two or three characters involved in the story get almost ignored but in passing later on and that can feel sad when those characters are actually very likable and interesting. The problem is basically the author makes you like a character and then doesn’t have them evolve in the way the other characters do.

The pacing is fast but it almost feels like whiplash at times, a lot of stuff is going on and it can become very hard to understand what is going on. The author wants to build a sense of mystery or suspense with a lot of stuff but just ends up feeling like you are in the dark.

A lot of little stuff gets hinted at or mentioned in passing that you end up really wanting to know about, often just one or two sentences, but you don’t get to find out what they mean which is disappointing.

The plot is good but at times it seems as though the plot is trying to fix or correct things that happened in the past, like explaining how certain things work or don’t work after it has been going on for a while. For example details about the MC’s life before transmigrating are only revealed after 300 chapters, they didn’t actually have the most to do with the story other than to explain stuff that had just been taken for granted by the story so far. <<less

I love the story. I love the s*upid MC who always try to be low profile but always do the opposite. How he hates attention but always draw ones. How he is a real tsundere that always looks grumpy but care about people around him. The story has a room to grow, and while the author not really tell us how the story would lead in the begining, he can add anything as the story goes. I mean it is a good story, although it lacks on review (why arent... more>> you people give review?) . But how could it maintain number two if its not a good story? I dont like a harem novel, and this novel doesnt have any harem. Thats a very good point. Anyway, for me its a good novel and I have a good time reading it. For now I kinda afraid to continue read it, I hate the fact that I have to wait every day for updates but always leave hanging and empty, so im gonna wait for two months before I read it again. <<less

It is funny, and the MC is likeable. What more do I want? Nothing, it's that good.

The MC is not op, and extremely weak compared to other op characters. What I like the most is the MC is really clever regardless of his knowledge of the storyline, because he didn't even finish the full novel before got transmigrated, and yet he still racking his brain in case of the worst. Sometimes the reasoning for his actions are selfish and funny but people misunderstand him a lot in a good way.... more>> That's why he keeps gaining more loyal subordinates and allies. I keep laughing whenever he just wanna live a slacker life, but got really busy with politics and revenge for his subordinates. He is the laziest MC I've ever read, and the most cunning character, yet his goal to retire early and being lazy is so simple and it's nice to see that. But nothing is perfect, and while I like the simplicity of the writing, sometimes it looks a bit sloppy and lazy, like trying hard to hit word counts. It would be good with a little fixing though. That's why this novel is still second to me after Release that Witch.

ps. Raon is best boi, and I'm sure crown prince Alberu is falling for our red head :p <<less

absolutely mad with how much im in love with this story! the way the author connects everything is absolutely insane. there's so many foreshadowing that you don't even realize its a foreshadow... because it was a small detail 100 chapters back. I had goosebumps when I connected everything. the plot was overwhelming well developed! the translation is an every read while at the same time, fully immerse you into the world.

the MC, cale, is my favourite from all the novels ive read, and ive read a lot (summer reading?... more>> lol). the side characters and their relationships with one another is both hilarious and beautiful as the story progresses. also the small details really are... whew!

i wanna say a lot more over everything, but im afraid im going to unknowingly spoil it haha. just give it a chance!

i cant wait to see how everything turns out but at the same time I dont because I dont wanna part with this yet. <<less

Good story and progression where the main character grow are deeply connected to the story. However the writing begin to become a bit lazy after 150s with repetition of useless information:

E.g

“Tell them to gather all of the nobles of the Northeast region.”

Cale gave the order for all of the Roan Kingdom’s northeast region nobles to gather

You all who didn't rate 5 stars just don't understand the gold content it has.

I will list the bad points of it right now so if you don't like any of this then please don't read it.

1. Story telling method is waay too childish and uses really simple words with not much psychological or mature content

2. Wtf is this is what you feel while reading the first 10 or so chapter. Story picks up well pace and motive after that

Spoiler

In first ten chapters MC walks into a slum with hand full of breads and doesn't ditribute it to them

[collapse]

3. Extremely convinet misunderstandings that make ppl think highly of MC, even though he himself doesn't think so.

Spoiler

He has a motto that he wants a happy slacker life. For the slacker part his home kingdom must be peaceful and happy part everyone around him must be happy, so he works towards achieving that.

[collapse]

4. No romance stuff whatsoever

5. Munchkin story with MC always using his wits to get things going well for him. And convenient ppl meeting him when he needs it or when he'll need them in the future

6. No multiple POV so you have to guess the Other ppl's thoughts to some extent after seeing it through 3rd perspective on mc's side.

7. Extreme predictablity of certian events from characters actions that MC fails to notice

Overall other than these flaws its perfect, the war arcs are must read and battles have Amazing buildups. The way MC handles politics and scams ppl is top notch comedies.

Then the biggest + point of the novel
Spoiler

Then there's the cute and fluffy Great and mighty black dragon Raon Miru who is growing up under cale's care and is learning from him, his actions and dialogues are really fun to read, if you are about retort to this beware of his fan club XD

Serie is good it will hook you up quite good, all characters have personal grow, no idiotic power ups, no friendship power but as serie keeps going you start to feel something lacks and it's that not just MC but all people in this world are asexual, not even one single flirt, MC is more virg*n than a wizard.

It's just hey I defeat someone bad but then someone even worse appear, just like dragon ball in that sense.

As someone who doesn't need romance in his series is ironic for me... more>> to say this, but this serie needs more real human relationships MC desn't need to have a lover god damn every single person in this world doesn't f*ck.

4/5 The first 100 chapters after that I read just because I want to see what will happen and now I'm dropping it because it bored me a lot.

At Ch. 258 I give it 3/5 <<less

This is an amzing story, subverting all expectation of the synopsis. It is based around a lot of hilarious misunderstandings such as the protagonist's action being looked at as godly by his friends. But one of the most important things this novel does well is that his friends are important as well. This is not a story about an MC who wants to become strong and he is the only one who fights, in fact it is the opposite the MC prefers living a peaceful lazy life while letting his... more>> friends do all the work for him.

For anyone who likes fantasy/comedy novels this Novel is a must-read. <<less

My first review ever cos this novel is f****ng underrated. This novel is very well write, great story, good use for comedy and misunderstanding but, in my opinion, the best part is the MC.

The MC is, yes, lazy and greed for money, sly, smart, scheming, but underneath he's a good person. The good and bad point put the MC in a human-like light, come on no one is a saint in real life, different from the too much unrealistic MC of common isekai novel.

Well some people will not like this kind of novel because Cale likes to throw the responbility to other people and tge author like to spoil all of bookplot and make it half easy, not so hard condition for MC.

But I like it just for makes me smile or laugh. You know I tired to read serious novel...

And this novel, even didn't have manhwa, this novel have so many hidden fanart in twitter and other website. All is cute and cool fanart!

I meet this novel after Release that Witch, where I am looking for novel that invest more on characters around MC.

I am bored of the CN MC where everything is about him, I mean I dont hate that kind of novel. Coiling dragon literally where I start then martial world, true martial world, desolate era, dragon mark wargod, super gene, king of gods, peerless martial god and etc.

Same thing all over the novel. 1 weak MC, 2 got bullied, 3 train or lucky encounter, 4 win and 5 repeat.

After RTW... more>> I am looking for that kind of novel where it has different POV with side characters affect the story.

So, here I am after The Novel Extra, I am Monarch, RTW.

More like a rant than review but I write to those 1star review that read 5 to 20 chpter.

If you are currently where I am bored of linear story that talk all about MC getting bullied and revenge, you might wanna try this novel. <<less

A terrific fantasy. I highly recommend it. The writing is great and the concept is fresh.

There are a surprising number of poor reviews but I advise anyone interested to try reading at least the first 20 chapters. At the end of the day, this is a light novel; there will always be flaws if you look hard enough. But this novel does a great job and I can only assume that the people with bad reviews were simply triggered by the few specific flaws that this actually has. Except for... more>> the people who call it repetitive. They are just wrong. The MC knows the future and knows the location of treasures. Unsurprisingly, the incidents and treasures are scattered all over the place. So he has to go to various locations, figure out ways to stop bad guys and help good guys, and grab any treasures he can. Sometimes the treasures are related to the problem, sometimes not. Sometimes he converts a bad guy, sometimes he wins over a good guy, other times he sneaks through without being recognized. <<less
