The Failed Swordsman Who Became the Strongest After Spamming the 100 Million Years Button

Description

There was a mysterious old man who approached the failed swordsman with the “100 million years button”. A magic button which can achieve the same effect as training for 100 million years if you push it.

The failed swordsman who pushed the button had his doubts, but immediately felt tremendous power rising in his body. So he pushed the button many times.

However it was a cursed button. The moment it was pushed, he was confined to the 100 million years prison of time. The first 100 years were devoted solely to training. After 1000 years he had forgotten why he swung his sword. He stopped thinking completely after 10,000 years had passed. After 100 million years he became crippled and finally managed to return to the real world. At the same time losing all his memories from the past 100 million years, the only thing that remained were his sword techniques. “I can become stronger just by pressing the button!” or so he thought and pushed the button many times after that. Foolishly trapping himself in that 100 million years of hell each time.

As he continued this loop, he began to think “If I destroy this world, will I get out of here?” A few billion years later, he finally escaped from the loop.

This is the story of a failed swordsman trying to make a name for himself in the world.

I'm dissapointed with the other reviews which shows the MC is suck or useless or the novel itself is boring. In my opinion this is one of the best that I have read so far, even though the MC trained for billion years it would be pretty damn boring if there are no challenges in the story honestly I dont like the other reviewers opinion about this novel its so good and the story has many twist and turns even if hes not overpowered despite training for billion years already,... more>> the story it self is enjoyable. If this has an anime adaptation I would surely read it, also I dont prefer MC who are overpowered to the point it only get interesting in the later part of the novel like one puch man where the story becomes more on comedy than action <<less

This novel has a cool idea that I haven't seen in other fantasy novels which is the main character training to become strong for a billion years. Rather than getting his sublime power real quick, he gets it after a billion years worth of hard-work (a lot of novels give some sort of quick power-up to the main character that makes him/her special, but this main character is completely ordinary). However, this unique concept comes at a cost, and that is the author's lack of common-sense in writing this... more>> novel. Questions like these emerged in my head as I read each chapter: how can a teenage boy keep his sanity after training for a year straight, no let alone one billion years? How the f*ck has he not awakened a [sword spirit after a billion years of training!?][/spoiler] why is he struggling so much against a [high school boy from a very basic tournament he entered?][/spoiler] I swear, that billion years of work should have given the main character some sort of enlightenment or unique powers, but all the main character ever develops are a few robotic skills that can't assure him a single-hit KO against new characters he faces. Whether he's holding back or not is NOT up for debate, the author is clearly belittling a billion years worth of training for no reason.

TL;DR: This novel makes no sense at all, and I can assure that rather than entertaining you, it will make you pissed off with the main character and side characters. <<less

Who cares whether the story makes sense, it's like a modern world devolved back to the middle age but evolved into swords and magic, with monsters in tow.

And the girls are cute to boot. It's a harem novel whether you like it or not. The girls are thirsty for his dick. They are cute so who gives a f*ck. Cute girls are justice.

The idea was unique, interesting and could have been amazing if it was done properly. Imagine training for a few billion years in a separate space where you are all alone and have no one to talk to. Imagine living in that space for not a hundred, not a thousand, not even a million but for more than a BILLION years! How will the MC cope? Will he still be sane after all those years? What type of enlightenment and realization will he reach? How will he overcome these hardships?... more>> Instead of exploring the human psyche that has been trapped for billions of years all we get is the MC saying: "oh? A million years has already passed by?". Which is unrealistic as hell and mildly disappointing. It was such a great way to develop our MC but all we got is a cheaty power boost and nothing else.

The world is as simple as it can get. There are no defining features that set this novel apart from the others. Its your typical swordsman school type novel that you can find anywhere. The world building is almost nonexistent and the plot is as predictable as your dad leaving you. It is also a f*ckfest of cliches and I'm only at the 17th chapter: accidental bathroom peeks? ✓, Invited to a duel after said bathroom peek? ✓, Hidden power inside MC? ✓, Girl falls in love after MC defeats them? ✓, Loser-kun MC? ✓✓✓. The MC is your typical Japanese harem protagonist that has been mass-produced more times than you fapping to your body pillow. Has no redeeming qualities that sets him apart from the other Harem MCs and he's personality is as dull as my great grandmother's rusted spoon from 1800s. MC has some sort low self-esteem from being bullied for being a tr*sh swordsman and possibly for being a tr*sh MC as well. It could have been great if the novel focused on the MC's low confidence and slowly develops his character through it but instead it gets neglected and not thoroughly touched upon. And whats worse is that it gets resolved in just 1 chapter when all his classmates see his "Greatness" and starts worshiping him like he's a god sent by heaven. Even when the MC has trained for an ungodly amount of time. He still gets his ass handed to him by other swordsmen. Like what? You'd think he'll be able to slice time and space after training for more than a billion years. But no, if MC is too strong on his own then how can he use the "borrow power from unknown source ass pull"?

Side characters are as bland as they can get. They are so bland that I bet water has more flavor than them. That's how forgettable and lifeless they are. The harem members are also as equally as bad. They are your typical girls from any harem that flocks to the MC like metals to a magnet. Having a shallow love interest towards the MC just because he's strong and kind, like gimme a break.

The translation is good and the pacing of the novel is not too fast nor too slow. That's the only redeeming part of this novel

If you are looking for a typical harem novel to read in your free time or if you're not accustomed to the tropes of a typical Japanese Harem then this novel is for you. If you're looking for something fresh and unique then you can skip this one. <<less

To be honest I often read stories like this that are viewed as filled with cookie cutter characters in a story with a MC who can at best be described as spineless. This one really takes the cake though as it’s full of plot holes and major issues that just don’t make sense or are basicly filler.

The world itself seems to be medical with people fighting with swords, but there are jets and phones but not things like cars.

The MC after just entering the new school gets a girl as... more>> a s*ave which he thinks isn’t appropriate but accepts it and does nothing to actually stop her from being his s*ave.

The hermit of time and his mother’s mysteriousness is really forced.

The MC in his billion years of training so far hasn’t even used five different skills from his time even when his skills that previously were seen as inconceivable in what they do get one used again and again my other people his age.

Even with all of that I would still read things like it all the time but the entire concept of the MC training for over a billion years and he still is completely inept at fighting really anyone. He literally is struggling against other kids his age and often attributes it to he is just physically weaker than them, but has better swordsmanship than them. At the point that I’m stopping at though he is now struggling with fighting the girl he completely stomped in the first 5 chapters or so and it directly talks about how he is physical stringer than her then.

Her name is Rose most will know her, considering she in about half a year trained enough o beat our crap MC Allen in swordsmanship and will ultimately only lose because he is physically stronger, she should actually be who the story is about but she isn’t. She is the girl who literally trained her sword skills two billion times faster than the MC but ends up like most girls in bad harem stories by instantly falling in love with the MC and becomeing useless.

Overall as much as I like the concept and wish it was executed better, I just can’t rate it any higher than 2/5 even when I consider the fact that I have read worse. <<less

Well I can understand why so many people rated it low. MC was bullied for 3 years in his middle school without so much as a single friend due to having weak swordsman ship and teachers practically ignored him and wouldn’t teach him anything then after pushing button from a strange old man he was left in a infinite space of time to master his swordsmanship by himself until his mind went broken. Finally when he returns he’s op as sh*t and beats the main person who bullied him in... more>> front of the whole school and later gets a recommendation into the top swordsmanship school where his life gets gradually better. He has a weak will power so it takes his friends and school teacher to convince him/ trick him into doing things to prove to others that he’s the op character and not some weak snob they think he is. <<less

I love stories where ‘the plot thickens’. While the first few chapters are a bit simple plot-wise, chapter 6.1 starts to dig deeper. Looks like this will be a fun novel!

The writing style is: thr beauty of a single moment,

but without the descriptive nature to accompany such a style the moment passes quickly as does the chapter.

Therefore the overall value of this story is in the variety of chapters which, in the case of persuing uniqueness, is often left by the wayside.

... more>> (The beauty of a single moment disregards any writing not directly leading to or from a single action or image in the scene creating snapshots of the best parts of a story.)

(Persuing uniqueness has the benifit of producing a much more unique and memorable writing style and at its extremes can create entirely new genres, it does however have the disadvantage of being much slower and harder to write; often leaving a vast variation in quality and styles) <<less

Okay, I don't know about the web novel version, if there is one.

Honestly, I'm surprised this even made it to the publication stage... Was the editor smoking crack or something?

Don't recommend reading unless you want to turn off your brain and just jump to the mushy harem stuff. Avoid all the action scenes because they are inconsistent as hell.

Let's face it... We're talking about a 15 year old who can send out a sword attack projectile that's faster than lightning. And he lost to a 15 year old girl... Because... more>> she has what? A soul attire? Unless this soul attire gimmick is so broken that it can boost their owner's speed and perception to the point where they're faster than lightning.... You get where I'm going?

If the author was being consistent, every single fight in the novel would end with one move. Why? Because they aren't faster than lightning. Moving away from the action related stuff... He's spent countless years learning new stuff like cooking as well... Pretty sure you can become a great if not unparalleled chef by then. However, everything he comes across in the real world is like top class food. Can't he just cook this stuff himself? Should be used to it.

Another inconsistency, he ran to his duel in 10 minutes. A trip that usually takes 3 hours is shortened to 10 minutes. That's a 1:18 ratio. A few pages later, it takes him three hours to get home... When the usual trip is 10 hours. There are many other inconsistencies in the story and I'm not going to bother pointing out all of them in this review. Just know that all this happened in the first 100 pages of the light novel. I don't know how anyone can read any further beyond that but kudos to you. Deleted the whole thing from my computer, cause yea this sh*t is just pure tr*sh. <<less

Honestly, I do feel that the story as a whole is pretty interesting, but thats just because I love the cliche school life strong protagonist novels like: Gakusen Toshi Asterisk, The Irregular at Magic High School, Serei Tsukai no Blade Dance, Rakudai Kishi no Calvary to name a few. So I'm fairly used to reading about an MC that is strong, but is restricted by some limiter of sorts. In this case being that MC just lacks any "talent" for the sword in general.

I am a believer that hard work... more>> pays off, and that hard work can beat any natural genius, but this novel in particular has a lot to say otherwise.
Spoiler

I do find it ridiculous that MC spends over a billion years of training (via swinging his sword) and creating his own sword techniques, but it only levels out to a point where he barely manages against talents of his age group (Really does make me question how extraordinarily terrible his talent must be). Thinking of characters like Rock Lee who puts in sheer effort to make up his lack of talent and nonexistence of chakra, or Naruto who compensates his inexperience by spamming shadow clones, 1 billion years to only barely match talented individuals (only ~15 years of age might I add) is too ridiculous.

Even worse is that all of his opponents unlocked their "Soul Dress" (Basically Shikai/Bankai from Bleach), while MC just cant unlock his due to lack of talent, or something along those lines.

And given his extreme lack of talent, its a wonder that he still can power himself up to keep up with these talents to later beating them with more leeway. This is all due to his overpowered "Soul Core" that makes up his "Soul Dress". The author uses this as a frequent excuse to power up the MC's body, or frighten the opponents (both physically and/or mentally) into submission.

[collapse]

An irritating thing about the story: A lot of people mention how he shows a lack of talent for the sword (nearly every opponent) but how can they say that when they aren't his match purely based on sword technique? It would make sense if they knew he trained for so long only to reach his current level, but in the end they don't. SO to everyone: he's the same age group as everyone else, with superior sword skills, and only lacking the key "Soul Dress." Why is he considered to have no talent? If I didn't know better, I'd call him a genius regardless...

This story overall does seem to have a mix of other borrowed manga/anime references quite a lot, primarily from Bleach.

Spoiler

"Soul Core" is his inner world that contains his partner. "Soul Dress" is the manifestation of his partner into reality as a weapon similar to Shikai/Bankai of the Bleach world. Even more so, MC's partner is a maniacal guy that is OP but MC cant control. Once he loses out in willpower, the partner takes over for him to overwhelm the opponent = Zangetsu from Bleach. Even more so, his weapon is a pitch black blade = Ichigo's Bankai

One of the Female leads also uses a Sakura style school for the sword. Her "Soul Dress" unleashes a sakura tree with 10, 000 petals that she can control as her sword = eerily similar to Senbonzakura Kageyoshi by Byakuya.

There are other characters and villians with other similar characteristics, but these struck out the most to me.

[collapse]

So for those of you that love school life at a battle school, with a strong MC, Harem, and strong plot armor, I'd recommend this story. Otherwise, I'd say better read something else as you'd likely get frustrated with how restricted the MC can be due to his limitations, and s*upidity. <<less

It starts out as a simple OP bullied MC. Through training, he gets stronger. The story is much deeper than that though. Without spoilers, it's difficult to explain. There is a reason the old man appears before the MC and has him spam the button. It's not just because the old guy felt sorry for the MC and decided to help in his training. The adults around him all seem to be 'in' on the secret and they either A) want the MC to continue to be weak or B)... more>> are trying to slow the MCs progress.
Spoiler

Once you get so far into the story you find out there is a mysterious person inside Allen. A person with an ego separate from him. This person has an insane amount of power. It sort of reminds me of the Naruto/Ninetail Fox situation. This person's power allows for quick healing and sudden bursts of strength. This mysterious ego inside Allen is what has got all the adults around him so worried. They all seem to know Who/What the ego is, but have yet to clue in Allen.

This one is pretty disappointing. It has an interesting concept, where a mediocre student is given almost an unlimited amount of time to train and polish his sword skills, but they waste the concept pretty fast. Early on it is revealed the main character is the seal for some sort of ancient evil power. I lost interest pretty quickly after that. It creates a crutch. No longer does the main character need to succeed through his own effort and training, but now he has this power to draw from. It... more>> introduced the concept of personal powers along the same lines of Bankai from Bleach, and I thought that could be interesting to see how the main character handles those things when he is incapable of wielding one. But with the introduction of this ancient power, I think it's pretty clear that he'll just release a seal or something and go super saiyan and succeed through the magic of Deus Ex Machina instead of the training and effort he put in for a billion years.

I'll probably read a few more chapters just to see if I'm right, but I'll probably be dropping this one soon. If I'm wrong, I'll take this review down and do another one. If you still see this in a few weeks, you'll know what happened. <<less

Nice start! Hope it doesn't go downhill and I rly hope the Author brings more world-building so we can actually see what's happening around the character not only character development and character introductions:d. It's 271 Chapters (Ongoing) at 11/6/2019 so yeah I've only read like 7 chapters and I like it so keep it up!
it went downhill and I stopped reading it.

This isn't 5 star work, but the many negative reviews made me want to balance the rating a bit.

The series is filled with tropes and the MC is annoyingly nice at times but is also very entertaining. It's a work where you don't need to overthink much just enjoy the flow.

I found the depiction of the battles straightforward and easy to imagine. I could immerse in the battles.

Now, there're some details in the story that makes zero sense at first, but I guarantee the author didn't just forget and he... more>> put some clues and vague explanation (though it's super frustrating not getting a proper explanation after 400+ chapter!)

If u want a light story to just enjoy sword fights, that's the novel to read. <<less

absolute tr*sh. I cant think of any other more suitable description. MC trains for 1 BILLION YEARS. If he even trained for just 1 second per year he would have trained for 31 years. Idk this thing is so dumb he runs a 3 hour route in 10 mins but apparently doesn't notice it? Idk maybe the sound of the wind and your shoes flying off would give some sort of indication? This novels is absolute dog crap I don't know how the author could bring himself to write 500... more>> pages. Desperate times I suppose
