Felmenia Stingray was a genius mage. She quickly became the most distinguished mage of the Astel Kingdom after her discovery of white fire magic, which had the power to burn anything.

However, the world is in peril due to the Demon King. The kingdom’s court mages perform a summoning ritual for heroes and bring forth a hero and two youths, a boy and a girl. Unlike the girl, the young man refused to fight the Demon King alongside the Hero and demanded to be sent back to his world. The kingdom, angry with his behavior, locked him away.

Now Felmenia stands before the young man with her strongest magic, the white flame, being completely useless and asks who he is. It was already obvious to her that this man was far stronger than she was. To this he simply responds.

“Yakagi Suimei, a magician.”

I was really liking this with volume one, and like the overall story of volume 2. But in volume 2 the repetitiveness and extremely drawn out explanations of things made it an almost unbearable read. I was having to skip paragraphs and even pages at a time to make it through.

I was liking Lefille more than Felmenia except for maybe a bit towards the end....

And why did the author have to go make Lefille
Spoiler

a loli...

If I have to describe this novel in one word, it'd be "boring"

The novel begins with the generic isekai trope, and soon we're introduced to the main protagonist: Suimei. As usual, Suimei is an OP character, he's introduced as a rational man but was quickly dragged screaming into the pit of hell that is goodie-two-shoes and never came back

Despite championing rationality, Suimei is anything but: he tries to save chicks for quite literally no other reason than "my dream is saving people", the epitome of irrationality. The man himself... more>> admits that he realized the conundrum of his dream: a mere mortal, no matter how OP, cannot save everyone. The ridiculous part of this is the fact that the exact same line of reasoning was used to establish Suimei early on as "the smarts" of the manzai group

Once that's done, what follows is a generic story of how an OP boy saved multiple girls while spouting various cheesy lines that made them fall for him. That much is I suppose fine, generic doesn't automatically mean bad, but then 2 glaring problems started to rear its head

1. Exposition exposition exposition exposition

Perhaps it's inevitable that magical fantasy novel that attempts worldbuilding eventually attempts to explain how the magic works, perhaps blinded by the adage "sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic". Quite a few tried, and surprisingly enough more than a passing few succeeded. The key to establishing magical rules isn't in making it rational, just that it's consistent

This novel went in the opposite direction: it tries to make magic rational rather than consistent. The problem with this approach is that one may fall victim to the good old Overexplaining trap, and fall this novel did. Many times (especially during the "bonus short stories") you'll find yourself staring at walls of text attempting to explain how magic works by using various terminologies and dropping famous names to appear legitimate, so long and so incomprehensible are these walls of text one would be forgiven to think that they just came across a modern rendition of Lorem Ipsum or some sort of copypasta.

Should you manage to understand what the text says, congratulations! You have gained knowledge... which cannot be applied anywhere when reading the novel

Every time Suime- no, scratch that, every time anyone casts a spell, a new theory is raised which isn't covered by the exposition dump you have witnessed beforehand, conjuring more exposition dumps to explain this new behavior, which gets rendered useless after the fight just like every exposition dump before it

The whole novel, to put simply, reads like the ramblings of a chuunibyou, explaining in minute detail the appearance of magic and the various "rules" that goven it, only to change its mind when the next big bad comes along. It's incredibly tiring to read and I find myself skipping entire paragraphs and even pages

2. Wasted Characters

There are quite a few strong characters in the novel, mostly centered around the harem the main protagonist assembled. While extolled as the best of their field, they of course pale in comparison to him, a fact that you can probably surmise based on the title alone. He gets a new chick every volume, and they all hold titles that befit their strength, but mostly what they do is reinforcing how badass the protagonist is by doing their best only to be outclassed by the OP protagonist. The girls simply never get the chance to flex their brain nor brawn, their battle mostly ended off screen and the few times they end on screen it's because the protagonist is there to watch or interfere.

Which is a real waste of potential. The harem members feel less like heroines and more like side characters propping up the hero. Time and again I find myself baffled when a heroine battle shifts to the hero's situation, then timeskip a few days, the heroine battle had already ended and what we see is the aftermath

It's not really fun to read

In conclusion:

Not worth reading. The "worldbuilding" isn't great, and mostly boring <<less

I registered on this site just to write this review.

First of all, story is not anything special, its usual isekai stories. I Don't have a problem with that, heck I like them.

Only problem I have with this novel is MC. He shown as smart, but really isn't. I like the fact that he refused to fight demon lord and refused to fight with his friends even though he is OP. It's fine that he wants find a way to go back. But why the F**k is he fighting an army... more>> of demons just to save a girl whom he met a few days ago, when he refused to help his friends whose been with him for years.

Another fact that I hate about MC is his constant apologies for no reason. He did not get involved with demon problem because 'its got nothing to do with him' he says but why are u apologizing for s*upid reason when its nothing to do with you at all. Like seriously did author make a mistake while creating his personality of or is MC just a ret*rd.

Now that I am done venting, reason why I dropped this novel is because I don't like MC. Other than that it was quite an enjoyable read. <<less

The series isn't bad, I'd even go as far as to say its good, the only problem I have with it is that there are some occasions where the explanations justly drone on for far too long, mostly when explaining magic, like, I understand thoroughly giving the proper imagery so that you can truly grasp what the author wants you to understand, but sometimes its just like this sentence with so much unnecessary padding and fluffy word, when will it end, when will the final thought come to a close,... more>> will it just keep you in suspense or have you already got the gist of it and skipped to the question mark, or will you stick through even though you have already ascertained the whole thought before even making it all this way? <<less
