Yo~

This is my first time please be gentle commenting on NU

I just want to share my opinion about personality & relationship

Why people dislike MC?

MC is NOT dense character!!!

I read maybe 100 WN/LN & watched 400 Anime and im tired of that DENSE CHARACTER ??

I like his personality

MC doesn't fall into someone who hates everything because he don't give a f*ck other than "I want to go home"

He doesn't hold grudges against those who betray him

Spoiler

The traitor Hiyama was like a pabble beside the road, but he ended up killed by MC

[collapse]

But MC would kill anyone who gets in his way (even his classmates)

Yue is the most influential of restoring MC's "Humanity". Another harem also does it by asking MC to help others & their classmates

Most harems love MC immediately, but there is a reason. Even though from our point of view it's weird (maybe?), but look at it from the girls POV

Spoiler

Yue = Was sealed for 300 years and was rescued by MC. Are you not going to like the person who saved you from the seal after 300 years? Especially the opposite gender. And their love grown bigger & bigger

Shia = Being the only one that differs between her races because she can use chantless magic, but all of the race (rabbit) continue to defender & love her even though they have to risk their lives because they are being targeted as s*aves & driven out of their homestay by beast race. But she begged for safety from MC and realize MC & Yue were something similar to her because they could use chantless magic, so she followed & began to love them

Tio =.......... forget it, she just awaken masochist fetish

Myuu = KAWAII!!!... ahem... Well she didn't have a father since she was little, because MC 2x saved her when she would be sold by s*ave traders, innocent Myuu seemed to think MC was like an ideal father figure

Kaori = She likes MC since she was in the previous world, almost lost her mind after she saw MC falling to Abyss gate and continued to believe MC still alive before she saw him with her own eyes. She realized that she fell in love with MC when she meet again & didn't want to lose him anymore when she was provoked by Yue-sama

Remia = Ara ara~ my my~ ufufufu~ INTENSIFIES!!! She's a widow with 1 child, MC is the person who saved her and her beloved child & Myuu wants MC to be her Papa. Is there a reason why she doesn't fell for MC?

Liliana = I kind of forgot. Even though she's Ohime-sama, MC always does arbitrary things to her lol. MC saved her Kingdom & world, so?

Shizuku = (Yue & Kaori: "Actually she's the last boss")

Aiko = Saved by pouring medicine mouth to mouth CPR by MC (Farste Kissu). MC always shake her feelings (poor lolibaba... *Yue stares from the distance)

[collapse]

Doing s*x even if it's not displayed (I know it's R-15 but still I like MC who dare to have s*x, not just hand holding, kissu & sleeping together with women but do nothing *tch)

Spoiler

MC only have s*x with Yue, the other in Harem does s*x orgy after the main story ends

At first it is nice but continuing it become boring and also frustrating. MC proclaims himself anti-hero. But what will happen is he f*cking helps every body.. Here's what's happening every f*cking time

MC gets requested by random b*tch/men. Then authur writes half of the chapter of reasons to not help them when you get convinced by that our namingly anti-hero protagonist turns his head towards yue then she f*cking nodes then he helps them.. Really frustrating right when MC doesn't stick to his ideals

This cliche happens every time and s*upid... more>> harem characters which you wish to kill them and get done over it. MC is biggest hypocrite. <<less

I understand why some people didn't like this. The beginning portraits the story in a dark, way, but people missed the point that the novel was never about revenge. His motivation for living and moving on was just one thing "To go home" and nothing will stand in his way. Though the abrupt change to a rom com doesn't help.

Truthfully though I prefer the side stories to the main one. It's more of a slice of life similar to Death march.

Cliches are a funny thing, while emphasis is always placed on breaking them, following them and doing them well makes for good entertainment, after all, there is a reason why they got so popular. Toradora, High School DxD, Naruto, etc all managed to do this. They are full of cliches, but they are strung together in such a way that it makes the story feel fresh and interesting. This is the method the author attempts but even with a how-to guide he fails utterly.

  • Lets start with the most glaring problem: The main character. I realize that writing an anti-hero protagonist can make for an interesting read, Dungeon Defense is an example of how to do this well. This is an example of how to mess it up, he just acts as an edgelord whose actions bear little resemblance to sentient thought.
  • Next is the harem, supposedly everyone is in love with him for reasons I cannot identify. He is about as cuddly as a sea urchin with half as much personality. I can understand Yue because he saved her from the dungeon but the rest of the women seem to be throwing themselves at the MC simply due to lack of a better option. If this book had a single heroine namely Yue it probably would have been better, but every other member of his harem seem to have personalities and values that directly conflict with the edgelord MC's values.
  • Last is the MC's OP abilities, it is possible to make a hero strong from the start while also creating tension, Mushoku Tensei is an example of that, but again, this book manages to do it wrong, as every enemy is crushed without even the slightest bit of challenge, every fight is quick, plays out exactly the same way, and what should be the action packed high point turn out to be utterly boring and anticlimatic.
It is an interesting concept, but the author fails to turn it into something coherent.

It starts off great imo, like many others reviewers have said, if you like a dark story the first part is great, later on you need to be a major fan of harems to enjoy it, which I'm not... Can handle it as long as it's not "too extra" and the story keeps it up. But the harem... Too extra... I mean...

The Vampire... sure! The bunny... ok, the masochist dragon... fine... sigh, the little kid and her mother... seriously?! The most popular girl in class... kind of saw it coming aka fine, the teacher... again, seriously?! The friend of the popular girl... do we have to? *glances towards all the other guys in class who have started to take the form of sheep even though, normally they should be perfectly functioning human beings* guess the ability to destroy a mountain is all that matters, availability and shown interest doesn't matter... I know it's a harem, but still...

[collapse]

Tbh, I still enjoy the "main story", it's just drowning in random and unexplainable fluff accompanied by teeth grinding in the background. The support cast aside from the harem are rather terribly written, not that the harem is mind blowingly deep either.

The main story as a whole is decent, and the idea and world building isn't bad. It's a shame everyone aside from the MC is either a harem member, an idiot, an a**hole, an enemy, or any of those combinations.

Later on the story picks up again, things go more serious with some actually serious developement. As I'm on a personal hiatus I can't say anything about the rest. Will probably give it another go one day when I'm bored and in the right mood for this...

Do keep in mind anyone wanting to read this will need to google for some chapters since the homepage for ElementalCobalt is gone and with that, the links to those chapters here. <<less

Tl;dr version

Looking for overpowered protagonist with terrible mouth but actually kind accompanied by a harem of all tropes (just read and you'll see) and not giving any sh*t to the world? You are at the right place. Otherwise you should leave, cuz these are the only things that matter

Now as for why I rated it 3 stars

People said that the first volume is the only one worth reading; tbh I agree, cuz you kinda see Hajime grows darker and matures a little bit after being betrayed by his classmates, then... more>> almost got swallowed by loneliness amd hatred when he encountered his wife (the only girl he truly has feeling for :v screw the school beauty) and saved from going crazy (kinda not right, but you get my idea), as well as his struggle to survive, getting stronger and overpowered in the process. As this is the first volume that revolves around him in the dungeon, world building, charater building, etc. can temporarily be ignored (c'mon, aside from the protagonist and the first heroine, we can only observe the class for a few damn days and sh*t don't change that fast, moreover who needs description of the world when the dungeon is the focus?).

When he comes out of the dungeon, well, the story gets blown up faster than light speed. Hajime still keeps a part of his humanity unlike other betrayal stories where their protagonists turn 180 really fast, but his edgy and tsun attitude really gets on my nerves. He always says stuff like "you can just die for all I care" but actually still saves them and still wants respect. I'd rather he became a stoic one or at least didn't turn overbearingly tsun-tsun. He also never gets things done; once he sworn for revenge, now he thinks he is the mightiest of all, stops giving a damn to anything, acts like a motherf***ing idiot (Anti-hero? More like a tutorial side boss who for some reasons wants people to suck his d*ck) ans this ain't no The True Story of AQ. The edgy teenager never gets rid of those who try to kill him, never tries to find out what is going on, to understand who pulls the string, to know why they do that. This boy also never tackles isssues seriously (just read the whole thing about "making the bunny race great again" and you can predict how the whole story is gonna turn out). That is way too careless in a hostile environment, and his vulnerability is exploited again and again but apparently the "anti-hero" (very loosely used) is too busy looking good to realize.

The world is also poorly built, a common thing in the isekai novels, like "the A nation is located in the north of the continent" and "the B town is a port town, and we are entering from the east gate". Okay so, WTF does this continent look like??? Asia? Erangel? Is it shaped like a circle? Does this place have a high range of moutain or something. And the port town. Does it look like Venice? Hawaii maybe? What's the building like? Feudal Japan? Reconnaissance Italy? Dark Age of England? Look, I am not asking for too much detail here, but for the love of God, plz give me some ideas to make this world a bit real. In addition, why is this damned world portrayed in such a s*upid way? Why does every single person have to antagonize the edgy boy on the first sight aside from a few? Why 90% of the fuc**ng novel is all about corruption? Can all isekai authors create a novel where the protagonist is betrayed AND the world is made normally? The world is just bland and straight out hostile for great causes unknown to us the ignorant peasants.

About the characters, we all know the drill. One-dimensional, existing to make the protagonists the true pinnacle of human beings. There's no real character development here, no one thinks like a creature should. I repeat, LIKE A CREATURE. Romance? Aside from the mediocre first heroine, total bullcrap, mate. So awkwardly made, girls fall for the guy for no fuc**ng reason. And... man, I have nothing to comment on this, spare me this part. As I said, you know the drill.

The few redeeming points of this novel is the kinda enjoyable romcom with harem (the only thing I had ever looked forward to) and the slice-of-life OP continuation on Earth, all of which I'm not gonna go into details here cuz I am too tired of this sh*t, and I'm not really a fan of slice-of-life but I can say the second part is better then the first one, and I suggest searching the forums for info regarding the heroine and jump damn straight into the second half, unless you enjoy the totally s*upid and utterly edgy first half or you have the guts to check it out (you have my respect if you can do that) <<less

For me this novel actually categorized as bad isekai before, so im stopping read after conclusion of tortus isekai (arround 180). Before hand, the character and setting inside of this story just too much and too inbalance in detail but its not the main problem. The main problem is how edgy the MC in this story, and there's goes with much worse added harem and cliche plot (in bad way) later until tortus world done.

Then im trying to read again when it comeback to earth, (arround 180+) this novel... more>> become slightly unique compared before, the story just become 'slife of life of isekai character who get back to earth and still op'. Altho the edgy still same, the story not much involved MC arround anymore, focus each arc can change to other character (altho most arc still have MC done in). Furtherless, its quite interesting when reading abyssgate arc and how much suffer MC in earth against his own 'members'. Tips : You might be okay even you read from when its return to earth if you want avoid early damn edgy arc but you will much lost in detail so if possible try to endure. Its 5/5 for the story in earth alone, -1 since consideration of early isekai arc. <<less

I'm not going to mention how things change after the first volume since people are already doing so, so I'll skip that part and go into my other topics.

1) Arifureta to me is wasted potential. The author sets up a simple and easy world to understand, but sets in twists and turns to try and make it not so cliche. It doesn't work out. All the settings in the story are basically what one would find in a traditional dungeon RPG.

2) If anything, some of the interesting characters don't... more>> even properly get any development or either not enough development despite having a lot of potential. And don't even get started on his harem. Which actually is kind of a shame given how some of them actually were decent characters.

The characters that can be considered fun and interesting don't get explored or have a chance to shine.

All the characters in the story only serve to constantly remind us how amazing our MC is and gets both boring and tedious really fast.

Which in turn leads to another problem. The author found a way to put really annoying character traits and showcasing events to often remind us just great our MC is. It's not enough that the characters have to say it out loud, these characters have to have their annoying tendencies bumped up to eleven just so our MC can get more time to shine by showcasing how much better he is then them.

3) Arifureta is a GREAT example of how NOT to do a harem (Or romance).

Really, the fact that the author is trying to pass this off as a harem itself is kind of s*upid given how badly he treats the relationships between the MC and the girls. It would really have been better if he just stuck with either Yue, Shia, Kaori or Tio. And just remain a single girl or maybe a threesome at best.

Because the way it's written, it's near impossible to see this as a harem. Or if there's any real romance.

I'm not going to mention or write about how the girls constantly talk about how great he is or how they throw themselves at him at every given chance.

And you know what the sad thing is? It's that some of these girls actually have decent and somewhat likable character. But the moment the MC is in their presence, many of their good points get thrown aside and they fall back into trying to get into his pants.

Since the start, the MC is only interested in Yue, and he constantly tells himself that way. So it can get a annoying to see the other girls trying to woo him. Ultimately one succeeds, and then you are left the impression. Okay maybe the other girls might stand a chance... sadly they don't.

The reason is that the MC shares a lot of moments with Yue and to a lesser extend Shia after he accepts them. But 2 girls isn't really a harem, but rather a flower on each arm. Even after accepting his second girl, he continues to treat the rest just like he normally does as companions. And that's about it.

Notes: I will at least confess that Arifureta has some good moments, with some decent characters and world building. But in the end, it's also plagued with issues and boring cliches at times, one of them being potentially interesting side plots and characters who never get the recognition they deserve. The author can put up interesting issues, but never bother to dive into them.

Decent story but far from great. Still worth a read if you got nothing to do. <<less

It started really good,

he was betrayed, sent into the dungeon, alone.

The first volume was really good.

Then it all went to SH**T

common shounen troupes, he friggin gets a daughter myuu... =.=

Seriously, why?

he just gets pushed around, doesn't retaliate against other people much, even gets scared from a muscled woman. REALLY?!

If it was a slice of life, I would have understood, but this is just taking a good novel and throwing it to the tr*sh.

It wouldn't be worth reading, considering how mad it will make you feel.

I felt like I need to write something after seeing so many biased negative reviews. To me it was a really good novel.

To those who felt that the MC was too edgy or too different after the first dungeon, they misunderstood it.

The author was comparing the MC to what a realistic human being would have changed or reacted. On the other hand if you wanted a 100% dark hero or 100% soft nice teenager (cough, smartphone MC), then turn away now.

The MC during his school life, was originally a nice,... more>> typical good student but powerless person. Due to having the most pretty girl in school liking him (he once saved her and her mother from gangster), he was constantly being targeted and bullied at school.

In the new world, despite being again powerless, he led his class to victory for a surprise boss fight. However he was betrayed by his classmates at the last moment, one of whom shot at him, others didn't help him.

Thus after surviving and gaining power all ALONE (losing his arm and some level of ptsd) , of course he would have hated everyone, becoming a tragic anti-hero, his moral code and personality changed to "every man for himself ". Who wouldnt? Would u still remain nice and friendly to everyone especially to the classmates after the accident?

However, due to his harem influencing him, he started softening slowly (choosing to save his former classmates) but still remain realistic throughout the story (not hesitating to kill everyone who tried to harm him or his group)

As for the harem, I felt it was a little too much, but then again this is the japan isekai genre, what would u expect? To make up for it, the MC being aware of his harem, in fact still openly state that he only love the first girl and others are just his party companions, and therefore zero interest in the rest. <<less

This is pretty enjoyable read. I wanted to give this novel 5 stars despite some bs in the novel, but the final battle brought it down to 4 stars. Overall this novel has good balance between action where some suspense exsits, and light moments with character building. The characters don't really have that much depth, also the author attempts to build them up. Shia is probably the only character that is developed really well, probably even better then MC.

MC is OP, but constantly faces very strong opponents and gets defeated... more>> few times over the course of the novel. Overall I like the pace and how there is visible struggle and danger. However the lowest point in the novel is the final battle where everyone suddenly gets super power up and the abundance of cliche upon cliche with the boss fight. The actual ending of the novel is good, but the ending of the final battle is not.

Spoiler

Basically the final boss is way to strong and has too many tricks so MC and the whole freaking human race has to get sudden power boost. And the ending of the battle is just idiotic overall.

[collapse]

Also remember that the novel is only 179 chapters long, and after that there are only side stories, so don't complain about the novel being turned into cliche harem novel :) <<less

This is one of my favourites harem novels.

The OP part is cliche but the protagonist gained it by hard work and through the dead or alive situation and his cleverness.

The harem part also cliche but each of his partner is really unique. With unique personality, with unique past. I really love it.

The character development, relationship development and story development also the best. It's full of drama and comical comedy.

I mean, this is the only story where the protagonist could just about abandon his love interest in trouble, or where the love still somehow bloomed even she abused verbally and physically, or where love could bloomed by the protagonist inserted some big black pole into his love interest as*hole in their first encounter. That's totally hilarious and entertaining..

Especially the comedy part. It's the best part I love from Arifureta. The author perfectly able to write the comical situation and made me as if I watch the manga and anime version. I could totally imagined the situation happening and LOL it.

The drama and intense of after story Arifureta dropped a lot. The protagonist mellowed quite a lot too. And his wives just increasing and increasing.

But the comical comedy is still going strong so I still love it so much..!! <<less

Ok, I like isekai novels, the story was gd in my opinon, though there were some boring part, it is the fantasy dark kind, well Hajime is op that most of the time he survive through lots of things but in each arc/volume, he did have small difficulties fighting the later halves of the labyrinths other than the second one which is a joke and annoying but killer labyrinth.

He did have difficulty fighting opponents like... the time when Freed ambushed Hajime which left Hajime near death's door step and currently... more>> at ch 155-157, his class is kidnapped and his so called 'daughter'= Myu (u?) and her mother was captured as hostage and the entire team was decimated and had Yue, his lover possessed by Ehito the mad god and though he did went mad and killed Ehito's supporter, Aruvehit but was agn further nearer to death than b4.

Though yes, there is some parts that are quite normal/cliche, the followers of the god are fanatics is one of the dark parts of the novel, fanatics who will greatly su*cide for the mad gods using them as toys to enjoy themselves which show a bit of 'reality ver.' of fanatics if any get what I mean. Also, imagine urself in Hajime's situation when he was stuck in the abyss, normal people would have given up hope at that point and end their own life already. Yes, he changed to quite the unreasonable character but it's not like I don't get it.
Also the translation has gotten better and not MTL after at chapter 130 sth I think, ElementalColbat got some hlp from bakape*vert.

Overall, it is a good novel for me. That's all. <<less

So Arifueta is the 2nd LN I ever read (in the old japtem site), after LMS so honestly I'm writing this review with a heavy heart. The novel isnt total tr*sh, as other reviews have said the first volume is pretty good, in fact I liked it a lot. The problem is once the MC went above ground it all went downhill.

For most reviewers they dont like it because the dark elements are gone, or because it became a romcom harem, or because the MC is emo sasuke mixed with... more>> Trigun but I dont really have issues with that its normal stuff you see in other LNs like shieldbro. My problem is the MC is suddenly able to make any sh*t he wants for no reason. In the first volume, it mentioned that the MC is a gun fanatic so he was able to make a primitive cannon from materials scavenged nearby. That stuff was great.

Second volume onwards though, what destroys the novel for me is he is able to do stuff for no reason. I know LNs usually become power fantasy but this is beyond chuck norris level and there is no logical explanation. Dude is a total wimp at the start but somehow suddenly knows gun kata and can run on air. In the first novel he had to go through so many steps to make a gun, now he makes stuff like a car which runs on his mana, submarine, bike etc. Even worse, his weapons are extremely complex, cross bits from gundam which can be controlled telepathically, hammer that has an ignition, micro missiles and spikes that shoot and bury themselves in the ground. WTF? A normal guy shouldnt know how these stuff works, and where does he get gunpowder for the explosives, alloys for the weapons, circuits for thr guidance system etc none of these are explained. He supposedly got ancient knowledge as inheritance but none pf those guys would know how to make crap like these. Why doesng he just make a gundam and destroy all his enemies? Its a shame because I like the rest of the novel. <<less

Will be using a 1 to 10 scale.

It started out as a 9/10, but over time it gradually dropped down to 5/10 and started feeling like it repeats itself. There's no real feel of adventure due to MC practically warping around and bulldozing through the dungeons as if it was nothing.

Spoiler

Things went to sh*t as the "hero" party joined the MC's party since they dropped the pace to match those of the inferior worms. So in the end it's the hero struggling and being jealous of the MC while the MC just brushes it off indifferently and goes around doing superhuman feats. This results in the story moving forward slowly without even having anything interesting to fill it up.

[collapse]

The characters are 2 dimensional at best if they are extremely relevant to the story, while everything else is just 1 dimensional. <<less

An enjoyable read. The harem members are quite annoying sometimes but just bear with it. I like both male and female MC. Whats more important is the story progression.

First volume is great. Volcano dungeon conquest is quite bored but after that it gets better.

Give it a try. Trust me, I have put this novel on hold couple of times around volume 2 to 4 but it gets better after that.

Read the LN instead of WN.

Very enjoyable.

MC is not a goody-2-shoes, not cold hearted, not arrogant bastard who does whatever he wants.
A mix of fantasy, battle and slice of life.

Story quite dark at the beginning then brighten up and a bit loose later, intense at times and easy-going after.

Author writing is at quite a normal level, a little below light novel standard (this is the wn version) but that's why it's easy to digest.

MC started being weak, talentless, timid, but not s*upid. Then in near-death situation he gets power up, but not from dumb luck or fate, MC actually gone through hardship to attain that power. With MC now a dark vengeance-seeking badass muthaf*cka, the adventures become really great. It will get a little on the harem-side but the author does a pretty good job to make it approveable as MC is only focused on 1 girl.

There are many evil scheming villains in the story but MC is not the type to fall... more>> to any scheme which is reassuring to most readers that hate dumb naive MC.

only 4stars because later on after 100 chaps, some of the story feels like too dragged. <<less
