Shi Jin once read a book. It was supposed to be about satisfying the desire for vengeance.

The main character, also named Shi Jin, was the sixth son of his harem-novel-protagonist-like father. All was well, while his father was alive at least, but after his death, Shi Jin’s five elder half-brothers tormented him, eventually leading to his death. The protagonist was reborn, determined to take revenge, and… the novel was discontinued.

That day, Shi Jin almost spat blood and dropped the book into a shredder. The next day, he died in a car accident. Somehow, when he came to, he had transmigrated into a teenager, a youth also called Shi Jin.

There was only one problem. His father had just died. His older brothers were about to torment him…

When it comes to characterization, this novel is one of the best in danmei. From the main leads to the side characters, they were very human. We get to see their flaws and why they were the way they are, as well as their developments and all kinds of emotions that comes with growth.

Plus, Shi Jin and Lian Jun's relationship are so healthy it's almost unreal. The understanding, the communication, the consent, the naturalness of their interactions, the sacrifices, the fluff — heck. Truly envious >_>

Well deserving of 5 stars. Found it hard lately to rate novels—without any hesitation—five stars, but this one really did it. Frankly, may I just say, this novel is my subjective opinion of perfect. The plot, characters, and romance are all well thought and fleshed out. However, this is by no means is a fluffy novel. I've honestly cried a few times because of how dark and solemn it got. As other reviews mentioned, this is a novel about redemption, not revenge, and finding your way in life after... more>> feeling like all hope has been lost. It's about being stuck in the darkest of pits but climbing back up to the light. There's going to be happy moments, and there's going to be moments where you sob your heart out while you read this (especially towards the end, but no worries you'll be crying happy tears eventually). You'll form a deep attachment to the characters, hate and love some of them (cough, maybe even do both), and then laugh and cry along with them.

That's all I can really say without spoiling it, but I think there is a unique spin on this novel compared to other revenge transmigration plots, which is usually a delivering characteristic of the author. You can see her creativity also gradually developing depth throughout her novel, and this seems to be one of her polished products. Nevertheless, I really, really, recommend reading this novel. It's a novel that progressively gets even better and burrows itself in your heart. It's full worthy of five stars, so get your asses on this novel and read. <<less

when I first read the novel, I thought it was just fluff novel with just 167 chapters, should be a fluffy ride. Dear lord, I was so wrong (QAQ)

I did not know that 1 chapter could be this long, salute to author and translater.

I like how the story progress though, it's start with light heart, then all the plot slowly reveal its true face and wow.

I'm not gonna spoiled but at later part are a bit heavy for me. It is like you have to cut the wound for it to be cured.

anyway ML is so good, not control freak. It's so rare especially when he is actually a man with supreme power of the dark side. The relationship between the two is really my comfort zone from the battle of plot in this novel (TT_TT) and Xioa Si is my spiritual existence. I resonate with it a lot.

and MC is strong, naive and a funny person.

it's kind of refreshing to see how a person learning how to forgive, of all the revange plot out there where they rebirth and doing nonstop face slap. Shi Jin is just too good to be true.

OMG my tearsssss

I originally did not want to read this as it came up so many times under the stories I may be interested in but now I am so glad I did. I cried so much. The author really lets you immerse in the story and I didn't guess anything! Everything threw over my expectations! If anything I am only a bit sad that we didn't get more in depth of the other characters lives but it makes sense due to our MC being the MC lol. Translation was good. It just wasn't my type of story. The MC is smart, and able to fend for himself. There is some character growth. He knows what is right and what is wrong, but he was too oblivious to the ML right next to him.

Just an amazing read...

Honestly.. it was good. I really loved the underground theme in this story.

The story is amazing.

Characters are awsome.

The setting is great.

The interaction between ML and MC and with other characters is great.. especially the brothers and guas.. damn I love all guas.., ??

Overall truly worth reading..❣️ the detailed summary I and other details of characters and such is given by other reviewers.. go through it if u have any doubts.

I don't usually write reviews for novels that I haven't completed via translation or MTL, but the MTL for this isn't very easy to follow because the translation for side character names is off -- they're a pretty important part of the story, so a lot of comprehension is lost due to this. Therefore, I'll only review the first 98 chapters until the translation is completed (the team translating this is doing an excellent good job).

This story involves a healthy bit of mystery and the investigation process isn't overly long.... more>> It's enough to keep the reader hooked without getting bored.

The romance is a little bit of a slow burn on account of MC being ultra dense.

All the other characters got to eat a lot of popcorn watching ML try to coax MC. It's really funny how they even warn other people about MC and ML so everyone can continue to watch the show. Everyone gets to watch ML drop house-sized hints while MC equips his +3000 obliviousness buff. Poor ML got boss-zoned for 45 chapters.

MC and ML's relationship is of mutual respect and affection. They're both very patient with each other and equal partners, unlike other novels where one side is more invested than the other. Definitely one of my favorite couples out of all the novels I've read. I don't usually enjoy novels with systems, but this one is funny and doesn't detract from the overall plot.

Like when ML dotes on MC and he just goes "wow what a nice boss I have, " the system cries for him and promises to get his IQ back, hahaha.

This is really good. The MC doesn't instantly accept his fate, he tries to get out of it first... and then accepts it. The idea is cool too. The novel he transmigrated into looked very straight forward but then he realized it was just from the biased protagonists POV and nothing was as it seemed. I also liked the system. It's really cute but almost entirely useless. He takes the ML's side on everything rather than his hosts.

At first I tried this out with pretty low expectations but after a few chapters, I love it. I 100 percent recommend this novel. There is so much fluff from the very beginning and the mc's and ml's interactions are so cute. Shi Jin isn't useless either and is really strong and doesn't rely on the ml, more like the other way around. And I love how there are no petty misunderstandings between Shi Jin and Lian Jun and there are no other love interests to get in the way.... more>> Sometimes its annoying at how Shi Jin is so smart at everything except Lian Jun's feelings but I still feel like this is one of my favorite novels. <<less

I totally love this!

It has a good plot, plot twists, good characters, secundary characters don't just dissappear, good pacing...

When I read the synopsis I thought it was somewhat your typical TG story, but it's not; so I do think the synopsis is a bit misleading. Well, you just have to read the reviews to know how good it is.

You won't be able to avoid the ninja cutting onions.

The plot, characters, world building are all 10/10

The story has many twist and turns and you will definitely feel many emotions as you read through this story.

So prepare tissues by mid chapters if you cry easily.

I enjoy reading this novel because the MC is quite clever but not to the extent where he can't have reasonable explanations for some of his bizarre actions.

The characters all have their individual personalities, and a lot of their actions are really well explained. They have their reasons, but it also doesn't forcefully justify their actions. They don't try to forcefully receive forgiveness which is really nice!

One of my favorite parts of this novel so far is the good mix of fluffy cuteness with some underworld (?) action scenes. It's... more>> actually really refreshing and some of the slight changes in the characters' actions show their gradual change in feelings! It's such a smooth development between the mix of plot and romance, which is something I really appreciate.

However, the reason I knocked down one star was partially because of the romance among other things that I (personally) found odd and unreasonable.

First of all, my complaint with the romance is how they try to pin blame on the mc's denseness and lack of EQ. I think the problem is that no one tells the MC the important emotional stuff. Like, the subordinates looked at the MC like he was dumb and dense when he couldn't recognize the ml's feelings.

I think that it was perfectly reasonable for the MC to not realize the ml's feelings bc the MC had never seen the way the ML acted before meeting the MC. Furthermore, the ml's cold act (which is perfectly aligned with his character) does not help in getting the MC to realize the ml's feelings. But the biggest problem is when the MC is trying to figure out what the ML is thinking and everyone basically tells him to figure it out himself.

I mean??? He's asking because he wants to know and he can't figure it out since no one is giving him any helpful hints. And they still look at him like he's an idiot, and quite frankly, it annoys me to no end.

Anyway, the second thing that bothered me was a little minor part of the book, but it just seemed off putting, character-wise, for the MC imo.

Basically, the text said that the MC struggled with studying high school problems despite being a university graduate in his previous life. Also, as a former police officer, I would assume he has some basic knowledge for school rather than just saying "I don't know" to every question.

This might just be me though since I actually enjoy learning so I remember a lot from high school. But of course, my view might be biased because I don't know what Chinese high schools teach (as opposed to US high schools).

Maybe I'm just nitpicking, but those scenes disrupted the flow of the novel for me. Even so, I still recommend reading this because it's definitely a fun read (with a few emotional bumps here and there). <<less

A great story, I really love it! The interaction between the system and the MC is really funny, and there are a lot of fluff, , dog food to eat ? But there are also times where it's serious and sad, which makes it even better. I think the upcoming chapters are going to more plot-driven and I can't wait for it. I love this novel!! It doesn't stick to cliches. The MC is so funny... his sense of humor is off the charts! I love the fact that the MC isn't entirely OP. I personally love that his family are all so powerful and intimidates people when he mentions them. The side characters interactions with the MC and ML are really nice to read as well. The system isn't emotionless and abusive like other novels which is a plus. This novel is one of the best I've read and will definitely... more>> be keeping up with it. <<less

All I can say is thumbs up! Hands down. One of the best novel I have read. I especially like the plot and the character development. The character development in this story is really heavy which was portrayed well. In some stories that I read, character development looks kind of forced or just does not fit but this is one is not. As you read on the story, you'll see the progress of the character especially the brothers. It made me cry many times.

The plot was also good. The story... more>> made me learn a lot of things about the underworld and their interactions with the government and the public. Was really a good reference lol.

PS: I really love the extra chapters <3 <<less

I really really love this novel.... and I love Shi Jin?<3.

The MC have a very good personality. He is cute, intelligent, at times serious and gentle.... and funny too.

His interaction with the system is very likable and friendly.... not like other stories where the system is nonexistent, bullied, or annoying.

... more>> Now, ML... the ML is somewhat normal... not like those overly jealous, overly obsessive, overly controlling ML's...

Now I like those jealous and obsessive ML's but after reading so many.... this novel was like a fresh breath of air for me. So the + points for the ML, he is very mature and sensible.

About Shi Jin's (original body's) brothers....I've only met three, and they seems mysterious but I think they are good for now.... so...... I think I'll find out more later.

I love the plot, it is interesting.... like completing a puzzle...

The translation is very clean and clear, so one will have no problem while reading.

Love the translator and their team for the hardwork?~~~~~<3<3<3

Overall, this is very a good novel, one can give it a try and see themselves. <<less

Okay, okay. We got the system-mission going on, transmiration going on here. But wait! Hold it! Before you click anywhere.

we dont have a MC who's cold hearted, super high IQ or EQ. We just have a MC, who is the "look I just want to live a happy life ok? Huhu why is this happening!? (Comedic) " type of person. As for the ML well, its your typical stone faced guy. *Toss the guy aside*

But what made it so addicting is the chemistry of the system and the MC. System... more>> going "Hoorah! Hoorah! MC I love you!" With imaginary pom poms, shipping ML and MC hard and MC going "shut up and help me ; n ;) ".

Its so fluffy, floofy, so adorably cute I just cant ❤❤ <<less
