Honestly it is a fairly decent book, not the best but certainly not the worst. The side characters are quite loveable, the MC and ML are cute, and there isn't a whole lot to complain about in the book. I'll start off by talking about the positives. Out of the entire book, I honestly thought that the book ended very strongly. Even if it wasn't always the best, the ending was incredible. Though I may be a bit biased since I love these kinds of endings, I just love the... more>> hopeful and open feeling, and how they did it with this one character was amazing.

Side Characters. Honestly the side characters were one of the best parts of this book, I loved how they all had their own little ships that were hinted at (although never directly stated). They were all very fun and interesting. And the best part is that they were all very memorable, whereas in other books you would forget about them after 4 chapters when they aren't mentioned, the side characters were hard to forget.

Romance. This wasn't the novel's strong suit. Although you are warned in the tags, it still doesn't really help just because of how it is written. The questionable elements between the MC and ML's relationship were just a tad bit too much. I don't really like how they got together because it was kind of like the ML forcing the relationship and being a jerk and the MC becoming obsessed. And near the end the ML just acts a bit weird about their relationship and that really bothers me. I mean if you ignore the questionable elements, it's not that bad. And really, the questionable elements aren't as noticeable because the MC and ML are just too cute together when their relationship isn't being questionable.

Story / Plot. Ok so I liked it and it was a mess at the exact same time. The story kinda felt like it was trying to be 4 different things at the same time, while it isn't terrible, it isn't the best. The plot is certainly quite enjoyable though. The MC is just awesome, I do really appreciate his journey and hard work. I'm not sure if it had to do with the translation I read, which was like a fixed version of an MTL but was very readable and understandable, but I felt that the story was a bit shallow. It may also have to do with the style of the author, but the book could have been much better if the emotions, story, character development, and world were deeper and more thoroughly examined. Don't get me wrong, the story and all is great, it just could be more, I guess. I also really liked the world building, it was an interesting take on a zombie apocalypse and evil organizations that was quite unique. I do love how the main character, despite being physically weaker for a time, was portrayed as having his own strengths and not just a weakling. The MC was actually quite strong and not always relying on the ML to save him. He has his own strengths in the smarts department and he works to gain other strengths, doing so he gains the respect of the people around him.

Spoiler

The weirdest thing about the story was how it kinda turned into an inception wannabe story. Like what was up with that? Where did the zombies go???? But about this, I probably would have liked it better if it explored the apocalypse more rather than evil organizations all the time. Still an amazing book though, just it could have been done better.

[collapse]

All in all it was a great story and I would highly recommend that if you have nothing else to do, this book would be fun to read. Obviously there are better books out there, it's just that this one has some amazing aspects that are worth reading for! <<less

World: cool and interesting

MC: likeable

ML: sometimes ugh but pretty cool

it's just alright, nothing made me go all hype sh*t or awww at their couple shit, but then when the climax starts I just don’t enjoy it like wtf, then it goes back to somewhat normal but at this point I can’t be assed reading the rest and debating to just drop it even tho I have like 12 chapters left.

Spoiler

honestly I can't think of a scene when I just loved every minute of it, everything was alright. Then we get near the end it starts of exciting like woop woop MC finished his research and saves his lover but the next chapters are just him, and Jane forcing himself on him while trying to be pitiable (news flash I don’t give a f*ck about ur sob story). The three Casey, Jerry and Jane were just a mess like wtf were we supposed to actually like them? Cuz there were part the author suggested that we were supposed to like them. Like Casey before hating him I never cared about him, Jane I never liked (and less so with what he did with the mc) and Jerry I really don’t give a f*ck like wtf.

This story is amazing in all its brutal ways. If you're able to see through the face value of what's presented while reading it then give it a go. MC is smart but not so much in the feelings department ashas is a bit thick headed there. But that is also due to his denial of accepting feelings between himself and ML.

As for the ML, people can complain about him all they want but he is solid in my books. These folks forget the kind of world these characters live... more>> in and who they are as STF. I rather him lose himself in the brain world than in real life and harm MC. Doing stuff in there also reassured him off MCs views as they aren't affected by the hormones there. <<less

I didn't rate this novel because my opinion is in the minority and I don't want to negatively affect the score. Initially, I had great expectations for the story; it seemed like it was building up nicely and the character development was strong. Readers are thrown into a grand apocalyptic setting.

As the story progressed, I found it to be redundant. Disappointed in the main relationship.
Spoiler

The whole 'pain is love' aspect is too contrived and dramatic for my taste.

I couldn't find any depth in these characters; their personalities felt cartoonish to me.

As stated above, this novel is highly rated, so there's a good chance you'll enjoy it. As for me, I couldn't wait to finish it.

One of the best story. I already read it 7 time still didn't get enough. I came to this novel through so site recommendations in google as one of the best Boy Love novel and I must say it didn't disappoint me at all either the journey was unforgettable.

What I like about the novel most is the vivid life like images the author portrayed throughout the story (for instance: when the MC smell the leaf at the start of the chapter I feel like I can too smell the freshness... more>> of nature) and the character's development with best story possible in apocalypse world.

MC is a hidden powerhouse, strong built character who grows as the novel progess, loving, cute, funny. ML is emotionless rock face outside and softy inside, supports the MC throughout, a great personality, possessive but not to the extent of psychotic. Great couple both with strong personality individually doesn't rely on each other but gets stronger together.

The side characters are good too, friends that help and support eachother, doesn't matter how rough the situation is the stand together.

The climax is really surprising and interesting too, amazing plot, the novel end really well, a great translation.

I don't know why some people has rated 1* because it definitely doesn't deserve that. A must read novel give it a try it will not disappoint you. <<less

This is good and satisfying novel to read. Not hard to understand like medium range's plot, not that heavy, aaand the most important (for me) NO hard name to remember ?. If you like powerful ML, zombie, fantasy, devoted ML, relatable MC (slow, sleep is lifeu etc. But the MC is smart tho) and 2nd lead syndrom (i mean Jean baby, you can come to me. Lol) this one will be your tasty tea. But if not, you can skeep this novel. Or if you tired with that Xia Xia... more>> with their King's lover plot or cultivation genre this one Will be good as well. I mean its light!!

Like this friends. I mean, yeah. You come here from reading that 4, 6 or 4, 7 rating novel, and start reading this novel because the rating was not bad, but please don't expect all novel is as good as your cup of tea storyline. If you don't like it skeep!! Don't give the 1 or 2 start like that, like... Come on.... Everyone has their story, everyone has their own interprétation but don't you think for person who not read it yet and searching for review is a bit too much? And for the translator too?.

Its new story line !! Not continuation from your fav novel! Not every author make the powerful MC date Powerful ML. MOVE ON GURL <<less

I love when ML has obsessive and crazy thoughts about MC, even when some keep a corpse and love it. But I seriously don't like this part here, when I feel that ML makes mental manipulations with the MC subconscious this and gives him hallucinations... I dreamed when MC understand this situation and they will have a hot conversation, but because of the level of influence of ML on his psyche, I think it's fake and not real, our MC only admired him at the beginning, but these visions and... more>> strength and pain made him almost addicted... <<less

I would put this in one of my top 5 BL. It has a lot more going on than just the romance that is interesting and drags you in. There are also some sexy scenes.

The MC isn't pampered and ignorant. He is intelligent and strives to stand as an equal to the ML.

I'd reccomend alongside one of my other favourites "The earth is online"

This gave me a lot of complicated feelings.

First of all, I like the plot of zombie apocalypse and how much detail was given to the world and technology itself, the gore didn't bother me, and there are times where I was anxious for the MC's life. The writing is detailed and semi-easy for me to understand as a person who is not very proficient in English.

Although :

Spoiler

I'm know probably judging it way too quickly with just 19 chapters, but I really bothers me and I just had to drop this one because of it. If I get any details wrong I'm sorry, I don't remember much of this as I read this a few days ago.

I get that since they are something of a super human with enhanced hormones that the MC would be so into ML, but it still feels kinda forced when the MC probably only started liking the ML just because they accidentally kissed once. He keeps having wet dreams of ML even though the ML barely interacted with him and has only treated him like crap for the past few chapters, save for that one time he allowed MC to touch the ocean waters. The same goes for the other, ML barely talks to him but just a few times of touching and he's already obsessed for MC (probably because of the hormones thing again), even went as far as to hurt others (Maya) whenever they do something pretty intimate with the MC. I even wished that Maya and MC would get together instead since they seem to have more chemistry than the ML after they finished the mission where Maya lost his arm.

I'm usually not against obsessive ML, in fact I really love this trait. But this one is just too much for me, I had to drop it as I just can't stand looking at MC having a wet dream of a guy who dislocated his arm and make him suffer so much pain over something he did not do on purpose.

[collapse]

All in all, I'd recommend it to anyone who likes quick romance and service with a great plot that you may like if you're into military/zombies/guns. It is a pretty good story that I'd read even without the BL tag. <<less

this is a plot driven story rather than one driven by s*x and fluff, and there is an element of horror and gore some people wont like. it has more depth than most, though its by no means all that complex. over all, I enjoy the story though ... more>>
Spoiler

it lost one star because of the NC s*x scenes which happens more than once in this story. "No, " isn't the MC just playing hard to get and continuing on without consent isn't acceptable, not even if its "just a story"

on another note, the transition between the first and second translator is pretty jarring; names are changed, places are changed... it took me a while to figure out who/what Shire and Surge were and the translator desperately needs an editor to help her out. that being said, I am grateful that at least someone is continuing on with the story so I haven't considered the translation at all in my rating, I'm only rating the story content itself. <<less

I love this story! I wish I could find a hard copy. I know, not possible. But this is something I want to be able to feel in my hands while I read it! I love Heine, and his one liners! Truly, if you haven't read this yet, you need to. It's not only about the romance, the world building is amazing as well. I feel like I'm right there with them while they are kicking zombie heads in. I can't wait to be able to finish reading this.

It's an okay story. Moderate pace, interesting protagonist. So-so love interest. I like it, but I don't like it that much as a fan of the reincarnation apocalypse story. This story begins after people have more or less rebuilt society.

The world building was good and I might have enjoyed it more if the ML hasn't forced himself with the MC.

I was about to drop it at the 30+ chapter but since the plot was interesting I persisted.

Someone might hate me for this but I really dislike it when Jane always forces kiss on Xiao Yan. Although the ML does that in his subconscious mind, I was actually okay with it not until it happens to reality.

I should have read the tags first before reading it. If you're okay with... more>> non consent plots then I guess you'll be okay reading this till the end.

Written well.

The plot details, the action scenes and the romance, is what I aim to achieve as a writer.

But I can't find the urge in me to finish reading this.

... more>> The relationship between MC and ML is something otherworldly different from what I encountered before but weirdly I'm not strongly compelled.

It's the inhumane aspect in it.

In stories like this, it's the affection the ML feel towards the MC that makes them humane.

True. But here, although his actions were proof that ML sees MC as someone special. His feelings also seems like the last hurdle on losing his sanity.

In reality, he doesn't hold him, but all of his other subtle attacks is really revolting.

In this way, he is in line with other red flags tops I know.

It's the lack of admittance of it.

I really felt attacked reading this.

That screams wonders on how great it is.

It's just 1/3 left and MC uncertainty of ML feelings doesn't cut it for me anymore. If it's 150+ chapters long, sure why not. But it's not!, so why the hold up?

I don't mean they have to just kiss and fck already but damn.

What I want to read ML say to MC:

"You say I'm far ahead of you but you don't see for how long I have set my eyes on you, or how inexistent the distance were. The times I hold myself back from taking you. Owning you. I don't entirely cross the line, just pull you too close, too much, too many damn times yet it doesn't feel close to being enough, bearing enough to be too much, or long enough to make up for the lost time.

Reach out your hand, Xiao Yan. My whole being quivers at your touch. In these times, vulnerability is a catastrophic quality. But with you, it's my constant state."

MC to ML:

"You're miles ahead, but always lingering around, everywhere, when I'm in verge of danger, complacency, even in deeper corners on my mind. I were, had always been your prey.

Eyes set on me, my movements, my breathing, in any moment I had known it's a small matter for you to catch me,

No.

You already did, you already see me as yours. You treat me as yours. But you don't say the words.

What rule is there for predators to see things eye to eye with their prey? It's s*upid. Impossible.

Still, in my naivety, I chase you. Pursue you. Thought of you, dream of you, long for you.

Exactly as you planned. Every single detail for this...

To want you. To ready myself to be hold by you.

Like it were the most natural thing. Like it's the natural course.

When you set your eyes on me, nothing's mine is just mine. Not my thoughts, my desire or decisions.

Like the moment I were pulled in through your gravity. Everything is just out of my bounds. The only course left is acceptance.

You're really something.

Entrapping me slowly, until all my being in your grasp. My resistance were simply a lost cause. A worthless struggle.

The scary part weren't that you didn't consider me as human to listen to my objection.

It's the border you place above my freedom. You didn't build me a cage.

You let me to wander free, only so, just only that I walk back to you.

Closely.

Always.

Near.

Willing.

Wanting.

Begging.

It's tragic.

Cruel.

Gratifying.

Inconsiderate.

Your love.

You.

You knew this yet you haunt me.

Gently. Aggressively. Forcefully. Asking. Hoping. With restraint. With tolerance. With warmth.

I am originally just your prey.

Then, you made me from a victim to an accomplice in this love facade.

I can't blame or accuse you, or even find fault in the things you did.

Because ultimately, they happened because I wanted to be more than just a weak, helpless prey.

In your gaze, I wanted to be a human. Same as you.

It was me.

A single step was all it took. Still, it was the single action that decided my fate.

Although I didn't think that far ahead, the burden of responsibility was mine.

Again, what's mine is the same as yours. And everything just make a whole damn sense.

I love you, s*upidly. Unquestionably.

Despite all reasons, I do.

And in spite of it all, you does too." <<less

3/5 stars.

Plot is okay. However, there are a lot of plot holes and there is a part where it is so fast paced and idk how it happened so suddenly.

I also don't like that the intimate part with MC and ML is rough. Jane and Maya sexu@lly harassed Xiao. The intimate part is just rough and too agressive. Not a perfect story because the romance part is not good but the plot and all the fighting is tolerable to read.

I am extremely fond of the MC. A LOT of reviews are dissatisfied with MC's street smarts, but I would say to cut him some slack. In regards to MC and ML's relationship: MC is ~18-20 with zero dating experience and has basically never even had a real crush; the most he has is being h**ny for some girls. ML has a reputation as a cold, unfeeling soldier who can and will kill indiscriminately which is already scary, but I think most importantly, MC and ML never actually talk out... more>> their early interactions like
Spoiler

ML nearly strangling him or shattering MC's shoulder

[collapse]
, and ML never showed any remorse or even any acknowledgement that these things actually happened. These things being unresolved paired with ML outwardly being absolutely frigid, MC's impression of him is understandably going to be very difficult to change. Even if ML is radiating "I'm h**ny for you" pheromones and whatnot.

As for the healthiness of their relationship: is it really healthy? In many aspects, no, probably not. But with ML being a very traumatized man, it's hard for a relationship to develop in any sort of healthy way. Aside from that, ML is extremely supportive of MC's growth and understands that MC is an adult who can make his own decisions. ML is scared of losing MC but doesn't oppress him under the guise of "protecting" him. In the end, ML wants MC to be able to stand on his own even if ML isn't around, which warmed my little heart so, so much.

So, all-in-all, it's really about where you draw the line, but I say if you're willing, this novel is definitely worth a shot!

(The story outside of the romance is also very interesting) <<less

This is definitely different! I hesitated on reading this for the longest time, and I’m both glad and regretful that I waited! It’s just that complicated of an experience LOLOL.

CHARACTERS:

The characters are the star in this novel, each one is distinct and they all have depth. With the main characters and a couple of side characters being explored fully:

Xiao Yan (MC) : A researcher with a great mind but, lacking a driving force, prefers self indulgence over anything else. For the longest time, he’s been content to simply... more>> exist in the close city of Charles, not really motivated to do much else other than survive. An accident (followed by many others) pushes him pass his bottom line and gives him something to fight for.

Minor Spoilers:
Spoiler

Later we’ll find out that he has a one in a million kind of mind that allows him to think faster than most people. This, paired with his flexible thinking, makes him a very valuable asset.

[collapse]

Heine Burton (ML) : Heine is a Colonel in the special forces. He, much like all of his men, has been injected with a version of the Comet Virus (aka the zombie virus) called the x-virus. This virus has turned him into a super soldier with impressive strength, fighting ability, healing, etc. He’s the cold type of person. He dislikes most people and is germophobic. He takes his job seriously!

Minor Spoilers:
Spoiler

After being exposed to Xiao Yan, Heine starts a descent to obsession. This leads to a lot of dub/non-con scenes.

[collapse]

Jane Wallace (2ML) : Our second male lead. He’s also an x-virus carrier and has quite a complex background.

Casey: He’s the MC’s best friend and fellow researcher. A certified genius.

Mark & Liv & Maya & Winn: Important supporting casts! These are all Heine’s soldiers.

SETTING:

This is set 200 years after the zombie apocalypse began. In this novel, hot weapons are useless against zombies (who not only level up in strength but also have insane healing capabilities.) The only way that humans have been able to fight against these creatures is through the x-virus (which is pretty much a superhuman serum that gives them the same abilities as a zombies but keeps their minds safe.) This virus comes at a great cost to a person’s vitality though, making the lifespan of special soldiers incredibly short.

Anyway, the focus of the novel is not the zombies but the conspiracy! There’s an opposite group that is hell bent on bringing down the people of Charles. In the end, the zombies are more of an afterthought, and it’s a matter of human vs human.

PLOT:

The focus of the plot is exploring the mentality of the main cast. It’s a very mature take on the zombie apocalypse. Kind of gives me western vibes (and not just because the Statue of Liberty and Manhattan was mentioned. Just, the novel borrows a lot of tropes you see in a lot of Hollywood blockbusters. Very grim, very realistic!)

As for the main conflict, there is an obvious antagonistic force and a goal to work towards, which helps the story move along.

ROMANCE:

The romance in this fic is pretty highlighted. As mentioned the story is quite mature, so don’t expect it to be a sweet kind of romance. There are triggers everywhere for people who are sensitive to dub-con and non-con. In the end, the ML’s state of mind is definitely not healthy (and neither is ML#2’s). It’s very realistic though, there’s a reason for everything (not to say that it’s okay given that there is a reason, just that the psychology and the power elements of the story is pretty well thought out). I suggest staying away if you’re sensitive to such subjects because the story doesn’t hold back on much. Be it gore, violence, or non-con.

RATING:

I give this story a rating somewhere between 3.5-4. It might have earned a higher rating if it kept me interested till the end. But by chapter 80, my interest began to wane. Maybe it’s because it felt like the author was dragging things out at that point? Not sure, but I did enjoy the story regardless of my feeling towards the end! It’s definitely not everyone’s cup of tea. It’s dark and perhaps too mature for some, but I thought it was interesting! <<less
