Holographic viewing technology allowed audience members to enter a movie and personally experience it for themselves. Naturally, romance movies were the most popular and well-received, while nobody was interested in horror movies.

Su Min was the first of the viewers to experience a horror movie.

Later–

Malicious Spirit: I dare not scare nor frighten my sweetheart…

Su Min: Actually, horror movies aren’t scary at all.

Audience: No, no, no, you are playing in a romance movie! (Loudly)

The audience suddenly discovered that the recent rerelease of the horror movie was much better than the original. Furthermore, to everyone’s surprise, the ghost was very sweet…

Ok, I'm dropping it.

I was invested in it at first until arc 3. At that point things started get bland and repetitive. There aren't any stakes; you won't get affected or harmed at all in real life.

ML likes him for unexplained reason and lots of dub con. Like where is the chemistry??? Why do they even like each other? Then whenever MC gets into a sticky situation the ML always rescue him. Like I want to see the MC actually put effort and use his own power and brain to... more>> use.

Enough said, this is the yaoi version of Mary Sue. And really?

In the whole of China, nobody but the MC rereleased the horror films when there are so many horror fanatics, thrill seekers, people who have good gore tolerance like doctors or policemen etc and none of them rereleased a horror movie??? When this vr thing is supposed to be really popular lol

TLdr; Read this if you want, no chemistry between mc&ml. Dubcon. Tons of characters that stay in one arc and never appear again. No character development. ML always rescuing MC. Repetitive plot with no stakes at all, no literally nobody dies. Basically a no risk, watered down infinite flow novel with a vague plot and a damsel in distress MC. <<less

In this novel, MC lives in a fairly unique world that appears to be modern, but has some sort of VR movie viewing experience. As such, he goes into horror movies and completes them with the help of ML, inadvertently becoming a small celebrity in the process. The vast majority of this novel consists of MC clearing these movies with only a small portion devoted to the overarching plot.

If you ignore the fact that the overarching plot is riddled with plot holes and poorly explained elements, then this is a... more>> decent novel. However, I will note that after the 3rd or 4th movie, things started to get stale. There was no element of suspense because any time MC was faced with potentially deadly or difficult circumstances, our Lord and Savior Gary Stu ML would come to his rescue. The only thing that really kept me intrigued was wanting to know the end of the movie, but most of the endings were pretty cliché.

The ending was pretty lackluster as the readers were still clueless about ML's identity right up until the last 3 chapters of the novel. Even then, there was almost no explanation and the last chapter ended abruptly. Closure, where are you?

Spoiler

The novel ended right after MC and ML met in person for the 2nd time. Come on, really? I'm not even convinced that MC likes/loves ML... It's more like he tolerates being harassed by ML...

[collapse]

I would give this novel a 3.5 simply because I enjoyed MC's little cousin Su Ying, because she embodies all of us.
Spoiler

She's just there for a good show. Forget the plot, girl just wants to see some drama.

The idea of an immersive holographic experience vs unlimited flow horror novel had me intrigued, but I was let down. Sad to see such a great idea fall short.

Most of the arcs are severely lacking. They are full of holes, bland, and highly repitative. The movie plots were worse than old ScyFy channel horror movies.

I stuck around because I wanted to know more about ML and for the ghost/human romance, but that was a let down too.

The MC was really bland and I'm not sure what he brought to the... more>> table. He is supposed to be calm and super smart, but if not for ML he wouldn't have lived long enough to do anything. Most arcs he didn't figure much out either and had to watch the official movie to see what happened. I didn't hate the MC, but I couldn't like him either.

ML was a bit better, playful but a bit too pe*verted to begin with. At least save being that shameless when you've actually caught the MC. He doesn't get much screen time though.

One thing this novel did do is make me more appreciative of some of the past unlimited flow novels that I've read. The arcs in them were at least a cohesive, understandable story.

Translation was great from both translators, thank you for your hard work. <<less

I was looking for something interesting without being too complicated. This was perfect!!

Every movie that MC experiences felt like a different small story which kept me coming back. The horror story plots also weren't easy to guess and sometimes the MC even had same thoughts and predictions.

I didn't really care thaaat much about the love story going on the background. It felt more like a way to not make the horror stories as scary as they could have been. I didn't want to be scared so the lovearc cut the... more>> tension nicely for me.

I started to care about the couple only at the end. It felt like my interest to the ML mirrored the MC relationship to him.

Four stars or 3 1/2 feels like a good grading for me. Not too complex (which is what I was looking for) but still well written enough to keep coming back. Like (sadly) often, there's some nonexplainable misogynist things springled amongst the story. I wish the writer has grown up and done some reflection since writing this. <<less

Translators, you did a great job. But this story absolutely sucks. Do not read.

At first I kept reading on for a long time because of the mystery (and because I felt like I was watching a train wreck), but I had to stop at the clown arc.

There is nothing redeemable in this story. The main character is a boring, weak willed mary sue with confusing motivations. The male lead is an assaulter that barely ever shows up. The horror movies are all, simply said, Bad. The original author couldn't construct... more>> a meaningful narrative to save their life.

And of course, it was un-pc. As a person who willingly reads shounen ai and yaoi type stories, I can bypass a lot of nastiness for the sake of the plot. This story committed the cardinal sin of not even having a good plot. S*xual assault, violence towards women, transphobia. And a lot of miscellaneous nasty behavior even from unnamed background characters (some of those online comments made me want to take a shower.)

Some of these reviews are inflated because the translation was good. And, yes, the translation was very good. But I don't want anyone to read this story. It's just not worth it. <<less

Eyy, it's pretty good. Maybe the ones who didn't like are those who are too strict with details and fail to just enjoy the story ahahha but I really just read horror when there's a BL with it lol. It was unexpected that it would be more horror focused than romance? Altho there is no lack of romance cause the ending and extras were satisfying. I don't really get much why others felt there were missing. ANW, I liked the unique 'transmigration' that happens here, and I always like it... more>> when they can return to their daily life cause I get to see how they really are without all those tension. The development of the relationship was also gradual, idk if it was slow burn but I really enjoyed the horror/thriller parts so it's really a ++ that there's BL. The romance is also thought of very well, no your typical romance. This is really supernatural tho.
Spoiler

Even with what happened to Chen Su was a bit not like normal

[collapse]

For the characters:
Spoiler

Su Min - I liked him very much, not the typical expressionless, not scared type of BL MC in horror novels, altho most of the time he looked calm, in his mind he was able to experience more emotions and he even admitted to it. I like his gradual acceptance to Chen Su and the fact that he likes those ghosts too hehehe He knows what he wants and also knows his limitations? He also knows he has a cheat code HAHAHA honestly, he's too perfect. No wonder Chen Su is simping so hard for him.

Chen Su - He just needs love, his story was not something expected, I even read in a comment a theory about married souls or something cause it's a thing in Chinese and I practically really believed it loll, anw, he really went from shaping heart using Su Min's shadow to being in Su Min's heart hehehhe I like him too, tho I want more information about him. But I guess it's alright.

[collapse]

For the arcs:
Spoiler
  1. University thriller - this is basically a start up arc and it's a usual concept, I'm also familiar with the repeating deaths. It was just really hard to understand, I mean the story itself in su min's perspective, cause they have to really look for everything that's wrong. The guy character here was a fun addition with him always telling a horror story he heard when they are already scared enough lol. Su Min is also a lot more expressive here cause it's his first time. Chen su is always very low-key here hahaha The story was simple but scary enough for me lol
  2. mu*der Island - this was also nice cause it went from everyone dying to everyone surviving with su min's addition. Their teamwork was good, it was really admirable. This was a bit messed up and all over the place with the fact that anything can actually go wrong anytime, one wrong move for them and they could all die, so the ending was probably surprising to the audience of the new mu*der island. Su min got traumatized with foods here lol esp fish soup hahahah Chen su got more screen time here and the SuMin ship started officially sailing lol. The underwater kiss ehehhe. I kinda liked the suspense here. Tho I really couldn't understand the story much in su min's perspective. Respect. Ohh btw this was the gossip about the shower scenes hahaha
  3. Death show - I think it's safe to say that this was a bad arc? The only funny thing was that le ling was a man. The ending was a bit dull, especially with all the build up about the 'death show' itself. I think chen su only had few screen time here? In the show itself and I think some sleeping parts? Anw the author can use the excuse of having the director of the film itself not being good and relay it through Su Min's thoughts anw hahah also the additional things that they get to see cause su min just be exploring every abnormal thing lol. The advances of the ghosts to su min tho ahhaha
  4. Shocking orphanage - this, was a bit fun, there were different kinds of people. The girl cannon fodder was a typical cannon fodder. The guy cannon fodder never really knew anything. Ohh, Chen su's exhibitionism here HAHAHAHA when the female protag saw him in the windowsill and thought he was gonna jump but later realized that she must be bothering him doing something with someone (thing). The director was scary. Lol with xiao chen's cooking skills and flirting skills HAHAHAH giving more food and even cleaner food. Su min bringing snacks cause he knows~
  5. Unknown prison - oh, this was memorable cause it seemed really hard. They had no freedom, there were cute ghosts helping Su Min weed and cut trees lol. Brother hao, and the gay side couple main protags lol, su min got to experience to be a third wheel. Chen su also appeared as a human for the first time here, aww. Unlocking locked doors is really a must in these type of situations though. It really helped Su min a lot. His acting skills too lol. This actually slowly and unnoticable headed towards an experiment type of plot, thought they were just brainwashing when they mentioned it but it turned out that that was really the case. I think the social meeting (?) was not used up in the original movie in a good way so it was nice that su min got to use it to help them. Lol poor brother hao with angering chen su. I still doesn't know why chen us was so adamant about dancing tho. Btw, Su min got helped with the boy ghost in the end hehehe, this was the only arc where he confessed of seeing and talking to ghosts lol
  6. Ghost ship - I kinda liked this, more likely because we got to see su min experiencing it with someone else. I like how he closed the door to the kitchen when chen su suddenly appeared hehehe we love a proactive uke. I love how Su min seems eager to be with chen su hehehe, satisfying. Anw, the story was not really that scary, just surprising at times, lol with the skeleton, poor male protag. The new character half way was also new and very helpful. I think the author really like the concept of changing skins cause they used it 2 out of 6 arcs. Tho not much, they still could've though of something different, it's basically a give away when they were shown the skin in the hanger. It wasn't resolved tho how the water in female protag's part came to be. Its really creepy tho, having a space for someone to come to your room from the closet. Su min also got to cook here hehehe su ying strong
  7. Taking my surname - aww, this was really unexpected, a living dead huh. We now get why Chen su appears as a ghost, maybe to remind su min gradually but it never took effect. Little Su min is cute hehee. Love gow little chen su hugged su min when he helped him aww. This was just answering the mystery behind their relationship so it was satisfactory

I don't know where to even begin. This is supposed to be a horror novel but there were like only 2-3 times where I was actually scared. Also, most of the arcs were full of plot holes. Furthermore, the romance was extremely disgusting to be honest. ML is just a guy whose brain is full of s*x and he thinks sexually assaulting MC is the way to MC's heart. And MC actually falls in love. They had a history doesn't mean ML can just go and grope and kiss MC... more>> whenever he wants to. MC didn't even know him.

The only thing that kept me reading the book was to find out ML's identity. Also, almost all of the arcs end up the same way:

with fire.

After all the build up, the anticlimactic ending of the story was a huge disappointment. All in all, it is just another average book. <<less

Honestly the summary and title didn't actually tempt me to read this novel. Nor is the tags. And I don't read any reviews. I had ignored it few times until finally chose to read because it's a Completed translated Novel and it has good rating. And well, it doesn't disappoint me At All!

It was so much better than my expectation! It wasn't such Spectacular Novel, but it has Great Plot! The story keep getting better and better. It wasn't boring or plain. To be honest it also wasn't that scary.... more>> I barely shudders.

The one thing I feel uneasy the most is definitely the Food in Horror Movies in this novel. Like seriously? I never really thought much of how food could be so problematic in Horror Movies until this novel. It has 7 arcs, and 4 of them going to mention the problematic of Food in Horror Movies. So, not recommend to read this while eating.

All the arcs is Great! It wasn't Perfect, but it was All Great! This novel isn't perfect, but to me the Ending is Absolutely Perfection! It was Satisfying and I'm so Happy and Relieved with this!

MC is Smart and Calm, not scared of Horror, but also not Expressionless! He's pretty Expressive really! But he's also not OP at all. His result in the movies is all related to ML. While ML is also definitely not Perfect, very Touchy-feely and Gropey, MC never really find him cross the line, so their relationship is actually Good. MC didn't find him uncomfortable or anything.

So yeah, I didn't expect I would actually Love this Novel this much and Enjoyed every moments of it! Absolutely Wonderful Lovely Novel! <<less

Not bad, but not that great either.

I know most quick-wear novel is lack of depth most of the time, and this is true to this novel.

If you want something a bit better with horror quick-wear, I'd recommend a novel called I Wasn't Born Lucky. While it is not that deep either, but at least it is funny. :)

Sigh, I wish ML doesnt exists or at least doesnt continously help MC... horror genre is no fun if you know nothing would happen to MC... (ironically MC thought so too)

Ps: some people think this is scary but imo, the level of scare here is just "meh"

I enjoyed going through each arc and following their mysteries, but I do have to admit that the plot holes really add up. The romance also fell flat for me. Where were the feelings between the MC and ML? Ghostly s*xual harassment on ML’s part doesn’t make an actual romantic relationship, unfortunately, and that’s all I really saw in the entire story.

Secondly as someone who really loves horror with comedic undertones, calm and clever MCs and devoted gongs this novel was such a good read for me, if you are someone who gets scared easily I suggest you to not read this at night though still dont worry most of the arcs are not very scary just 2 or 3 of them

It's a horror genre and it's scary!!! Um, but MC is smart and quite calm so it feels like watching a really really really scary horror movie with someone who is very brave.

I was apprehensive to read this at first because I don't like horror movies! At! All! But this was quite enjoyable actually! The arcs are well-written and the plot for each arc is very intricate, and quite original.

One of the best horrow genres, surprisingly it is BL too.

So far we are at the first arc. I can't really critique it well unless I finish the first arc but so far the TL is doing a great job. The scenes are suspenseful and it gives you the chills that a horror genre should give. The interactions are quite comedic which is a nice touch, like a spring breeze. It helps diffuse the melancholic atmosphere. Moreover, you have to remember that MC is inside a "typical horror movie" so... more>> there are plotholes that even the MC points out. You follow Su Min (says Su Shi in raws, but Su Min in summary, then again mtl isn't entirely accurate), who goes through several horror movies, as in experiencing them directly. In every movie, he would meet the ML, who appears as a ghost and the ML naturally helps him along the way, although I personally feel that he doesn't do much other than pulling him out of danger since it seems he can't interfere too much (?). Our MC does most of the work, solving the mystery in the plot of each movie. So far, he manages to reach a successful ending in each movie without dying. Not really descriptive on the gory parts and its not really scary by my standards since I've been getting dosed in dog food from the MC and ML. Even the audience in the novel thinks so too! There are moments that have made me nervous though and I find the plots of each movie interesting.

I only one word to describe this whole novel.

Mid.

I didn't feel thrilled, I didn't feel immersed, nothing. I felt like I was just looking at a bunch of text. I didn't even feel like reading the conclusion, let alone the extras, I think I even skipped the part where they revealed their identities on the last arc because at that point I was just scrolling through the entire thing.

VAGUE DESCRIPTION OF ALL THE ARCS:

Spoiler

1st ARC:

•Takes place at a university
•MC and ML meet from the get go
•ML already loves MC
•3 Protagonists
•Random deaths and possessions
•Not really scary
•The ending was ok

*Now that I look back at it there's a lot of plotholes and stuff that don't connect like

-Why did they only start killing and possessing people now when they could've done it right after they died?
-Why were there deaths in the bathtub and on the sink? No tragedies connected to the 'incident' that took place even happened in those two places
-What exactly did the teacher to the student that confessed and why? What was his motive and mentality? It just sounded like a poor excuse to start off the plot.
-How did the friend find out what happened? Did the friend who committed su*cide leave a note? Then why didnt she carry that note to the teacher instead of the birthday card during the confrontation?

Also a random candle directly falling into a socket or cable is too hilariously convinient for me to feel anything about it

The replay of them trying to escape the fire was pretty good though.

4/5 (I'm already being generous here I only rated it 4/5 because: Its the first arc, the ending was pretty good, I still had hopes for this story back then)

2nd ARC:

•Takes place at a secluded island
•Toads, finger inside fish, corpse inside wall, corpse inside hole, running skin and floating clothes??
•5 protagonists
•Not much to say about it
•The ending was meh and the battle between the ghosts and the invaders was so random and just all in all not it

*Again, plot holes. This was probably the one with the most plot holes.

-Where did the technique come from?
-Why were there toads everywhere?
-What's up with the big shadow toad near the end?
-Why was the wife shoved into a wall? Why was the husband put inside a hole with toads? Why was the daughter skinned when they didn't even use her skin? The grandma I can still understand her being tossed down there inside the well but I don't understand why they didn't just toss everyone inside the well as well. Too many uncalled for incidents that again, was just used to set off the plot and make it look scarier but which again, didn't work.
-Not really scary

>3/5

3rd ARC:

•1st half takes place in a hotel, 2nd half takes place at a dome where the 'show' was performed
•People acting weird, corpses in random areas, creepy show
•3 protagonists
•This arc had the most potential but the author absolutely blew it near the end with all the random add ins and unexplained plots.

*Plot holes plot holes plot holes plot holes plot holes

-Where did the carpet ghost that carried away the first victim away come from?
-Whats up with the first victim's boyfriend?
-Why did the show exist? For what purpose? Why did the clowns have to vanish after? Why were there decided successors? Why did they have to change ring leaders (the clowns) every now and then? Why were there ghosts telling them what to do? Why did they build a dome made of bones???
-How did original protagonist's parents know that she/he was the next successor? Did she/he have a clown as a parent? Why was she/he next?

The original male lead of the movie s**ked ass he doesn't deserve the original FL of the movie lol that girl/dude kicked ass

4/5 (Just because I liked the concept)

4th ARC:

•Takes place at an orphanage
•Becareful of what you eat
•3 Protagonists

*Minor plot holes

-Why was the director obsessed with food and why was the service worker cooking up his body parts?
-Why were the kids jealous of the girl?
-Why was the dress of the girl hanging on a window?
-What happened the perpetrator kid's sister? Why was her death related to the orphanage? Didn't she die after getting adopted?
-The other H girl was so sus for no reason at all.

3/5 it was ok

5th ARC

•Takes place in a prison
•Deaths and experiments
•3 Protagonists
•The two og protagonists are definitely in love

*PLOT HOLES

-First of all did the other og protagonist commit a crime deliberately to be with the other og protagonist in prison? Because I don't f*cking believe one bit that he didn't because the author didn't even reveal his crime, plus based on his temperament he doesn't look like the type to commit a crime
-How did the inmates keep on getting s**ked into shower head and sink (as in the sink you use wash your hands) holes? Those are so f*cking tiny and don't even try to tell me it's because the damn ghosts are doing it because even if you're a ghost there's no way you'll be able to fit someone inside that tiny ass shower head hole.
-Why were there no women? I understand that it may be because its a male only jail but they deliberately mentioned it in the story yet gave no explanation whatsoever

-What's the purpose of the TV? I presume it's to brainwash the inmates into not worrying about all the creepy deaths happening around them but that's only my speculation too they didn't even elaborate on that in the story

6th ARC:

•Takes place on a ship
•Last arc
•MC goes into the movie with his lil cousin
•4 protagonists + 1 towards the end
•Dead passengers, again skinning people, some hoodoo voodoo techniques
•Just don't eat at this point
•The escape ending was good

*pLoOOooOt hOlLeSSssSsSsssSs

-Now they explained that the technique was received from some demonic realm or whatever but how did those people even get there?
-Only 20 people? On such a big and luxurious ship? Don't joke with me.

There's probably more but I don't remember anymore I've been writing this for an hour and a half my brain is fried.

4/5 (All my 4/5 ratings are just me being generous this arc received a 4/5 because the MC took someone else with him to the movie, I liked the characters in this one esp the MCs cousin she's cool, and the escape scene was great)

[collapse]

I don't have spoilers for the reveal arc and the extras since I only skimmed and even skipped through most of the chapters in them, but the ending was easy to guess and the extras are just about the romance turned horror movie the MC went to after the 2nd arc.
Spoiler

He's a doctor there.

[collapse]

My thoughts about this story:

This story has so many plot holes if they merged you can make a massive sink hole with it.

I agree with that one comment the MC got in the story, he probably would've died at almost all of these movies if not for the ML.

The MC is only smarter than the average person not interesting.

ML is fun.

The movie plots are too simple and anticlimactic. I figured everything out through speculations before the movies even reached the 2nd half or before the protagonists even managed to reach their own conclusions.

Basically, I was disappointed by this novel. It could've been better but everything was poorly executed to the point that I wasn't even interested in reading the most awaited reveal and that says alot.

Also curse you author for constantly throwing bait that the MC will go to the movies with his roommate/s at some point but in the end they never did, and when they got so close to doing so you just made the roommate oversleep. Tbh forget about the story IHY the most for that.

They kept using the fact that it's just a movie to cover up all the jarring plot holes, like no don't even talk to me anymore you and I both know that's just an excuse for your poor explanation skills caused by all of the random things you threw in to make the story scarier which by the way, didn't even pay off in the end. Why did I barely even talk about the main couple throughout this whole review? Because this story failed to make me look forward to their relationship. Sure whenever the male lead appears it becomes a tad bit more fun to read but that's about it. I didn't look forward to it, I didn't question it, I wasn't interested in it and was already ok with what was happening between them. I was so uninterested that I didn't even bother to read the extras and the reveal arc properly or rather at all. Come to think of it there's also that Halloween special I skipped because it was squeezed inside a random arc but tbh idc anymore I'm not going back to read it. And I think a reader being uninterested in the relationship you put towards as the centerpiece of the whole story means you failed miserably in portraying said relationship and you really need to work on that area more. TLDR:

Story is basic, has many plot holes, disappointed me many times, only read if you're really trying to waste your time away for whatever reason.

Minus 1 star for all the plot holes
Minus 1 star for not being able to keep me interested and immersed
Minus 1 star for the MC___________
= 2 stars

Would I Reread? Nope. Nope. Nope.
Would I Reccomend? I'm not that cruel

Might edit this, I was in a really bad mood while writing this because it didn't satisfy me at all and I felt like I just wasted my time <<less

I'm stopping after 3 arcs/worlds.

I've seen worst world-hopping novels, but I also have seen many better ones.

I'm dissatisfied firstly with the relationship between the MC and ML. In the first arc, they met. Okay, the ML already likes the MC. I can accept that. MC is attracted to ML but not overly. Then, from the second arc and onward, their relation should develop. But no! It's limited to a few apparitions of the ML to kiss the MC or save him and that's all.

The rest of the time, the story... more>> focuses on the mystery and the horror movies. If it had been well done, it could have been interesting. I would have continue to read for the plot even if the romance is unsatisfactory. Yet, in the three arcs I read, there were many plot holes, many unanswered questions and the ending of each movie was anticlimactic.

I'm not saying it's a very bad novel; you can always give it a try. I just want to express that it's an average work. Still, I sincerely thanks the translator who took time to finish it completely. It's always pleasant to have complete novels. It's just that I'm not satisfied with this one. But I really loved several of your other novels, so once again, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your hard work. <<less

There were plot holes, as mentioned by the translator - and one chapter that made no sense during ‘Unknown Prison’. Overall though, the different take on transmigrating was interesting. I found it an interesting and fun read.

Kind-of bland story, with MC 'investigating' the paranormal occurrences (or the movies). MC's brilliance can only be seen in first, and may be second arc, after that, you know MC would never be in any danger, ML would always be around to fix everything for him. Lots of unanswered questions and plot holes in each arcs, not to mention the 'futuristic' holographic 'brain-wave' technology that allows you to change the entire storyline and everyone's dialogues etc. Do the directors/actors act out various scenarios to help the movie going as per... more>> each viewer's circumstances?

Also, the 'romance' is very very forced - I wonder how MC will develop positive feelings for ML after being sexually harassed (forcefully kissed/hugged/voyeured) all the time. Just by reading, it makes one uncomfortable instead of eating sweet sugar... Rather than romance, it feels MC is desensitized/conditioned after all that harassment and just lets ML do whatever... <<less

this was a novel with a lot of promise in my opinion. transmigration is one of my favourite genres out there so i've read quite a lot of transmigration bl novels. & in terms of originality, this novel's premise is one I haven't read before. the idea of going inside movies and being able to change them etc is actually quite cool and I liked that the protagonist doesn't have to go into another person's body and retains his own name and personalities too.

talking about the characters, I liked the... more>> MC su min and I liked reading from his pov. yeah he's kinda op but I read transmigration stories knowing that more often than not, the MC will always win and sort things out fairly quickly. I expect that to happen and I like it so that aspect of the story of su min always winning didn't make me dislike it.

the arcs... eh. the first few arcs were nice and kept me on the edge of my seat. I liked that the secondary characters were kinda developed and got to have their moments to shine. the comedy was apt and I actually laughed out loud at certain points. however, as we read on, a lot of the arcs started feeling redundant, like they were dragging. I can't remember it much anymore but there was a certain arc that seemed to go on and on and on and it took all I had not to skim read it to get it over and done with. & it also seemed as if the arcs went from horror to mystery & thriller. I don't know, for a novel that advertises itself as being a horror book I expected more horror.

but the main point I wanna talk about is actually the ML, cheng su. I liked cheng su the most as a character and I was eagerly waiting for his backstory to be unravelled. more than su min, I wanted to know more about cheng su and what his deal was. to me, cheng su didn't really have much of an impact on the story.. I know a lot of reviewers said that he solved all of su min's problems but I don't really think so. he helped at certain points sure but most of his role was really just to...

    • grope su min
    • bite su min's ear
    • bite su min somewhere else
    • grope
    • bite...
    • whisper in su min's ear
    • hug su min
    • grope some more
    • did I mention bite?
cheng su didn't appear as often as I wanted him to in the story and when he did all he really did was the above lol. we learned some little trivia and clues about him some times but that was about it. & then the arc I was waiting for, cheng su's arc finally came and... yeah. severely disappointed. it's as if the author got bored and just quickly wrote whatever to explain cheng su's past.

even with cheng su's arc I am still very much confused on what he actually is..

Spoiler

is he a ghost? is he a full human? is he a half human / half ghost? how did he get to that shack? who locked him there? what did the author mean by experiment? who was experimenting on him and for what?

[collapse]

his arc left more questions than answers and yeah.. for something i'd been waiting on, it was very disappointing.

this novel had a lot of promise and I'm sure it would have delivered on that promise but it seemed as if the author got bored of their own story unfortunately.

so yeah, it's not a bad read. the arcs were either really good or they dragged. the characters were the strongest point of the book for me & of course the cute ghosts lol. <<less
