Observation Record of a Self-proclaimed Villainess’ Fiance

Description

Lady Bertia, who’s become my fiancée, is a bit odd. On our first meeting, she proclaimed herself a villainess noble girl who’s been reincarnated and said that she’s working hard every day to become a splendid flower of evil that’s elegantly put in her place.

I don’t get it.

But she entertains me because I don’t understand.

That’s why I think I’ll observe her for a while.

This is a story of a crown prince who’s so talented and handsome that he’s grown bored of his easy-mode life. A story of this prince observing a self-proclaimed villainess noble girl (who seems perfect at first but is a bit off) who’s become his fiancée as she snatches flags and breaks them into pieces.

This one is freaking great and deserves all the high reviews it has. No, seriously, it absolutely does. I read the manga first and was delighted to find the original novel, and I'm impressed they made the manga so directly from the novel. It's incredibly adorable and honestly I'm glad I read it. It's heartwarming, cute, funny, and sweet in all the right ways. I saved this one for a day when I was feeling terrible and I'm glad I did. It made me happy.

The story mostly followed a standard plot of transmigration into otome game novel but what makes it different from others is this story was told from ML's POV.

The transmigrator is none other than the supposed villainess, Bertia, who is also ML's fiancee. At first, I like her character. She's a bit different from other transmigrator because she honestly told ML that she was a transmigrator and she also didn't hesitate to share her memories about the events that will happen in the future to ML. The emotionless ML couldn't help... more>> but to slowly fall in love with the silly and adorable FL. Can't blame him though because I also find that FL is amusing.

But later, FL got me annoyed so much because of her stubbornness to follow the original plot.

Spoiler

I know that she did it because of her love for ML. I don't blame her if she just wanted to act as a villainess just so ML could be together with the heroine but I'm so angry when she also dragged her own father to become a villain too just so she could follow the original plot.

Did she have a brain? Did she ever think about the consequences if her father truly became a villain? It will not only affect her but also affect her mother and baby brother. Her family could fall into ruin and they also could be executed because of it.

And the so called attempt to become a villainess was also so laughable. She did it so half heartedly and unsurprisingly, the effect was the opposite. She didn't gain any enemy (except for heroine) and even gain many followers that adored her.

[collapse]

It's maybe an unpopular opinion but I actually pitied the heroine a bit.

Spoiler

She was born to follow the origin scenario. That's what her existence all about. But it was disturbed by FL's appearance. I couldn't blame the heroine entirely because she only followed her memories and in that memories, FL was a villainess and she was a heroine. And FL, who knew what could happen, only blindly followed the heroine's wish and it resulted with the heroine's personality became more twisted that led to her downfall. But I also couldn't blame FL either because she also worried about ML's future if he didn't end up with the heroine.

[collapse]

As for the ending, it's so lovely but also a bit disturbing.

Spoiler

I'm talking about ML and FL's first child, Ainzart. At first, he was obsessed with FL till he wanted to get rid of his unborn sibling that was still in his mother's womb. But after his sister, Ainkis, was born, he became obsessed with his sister instead to the point of obstructing Ainkis's chance to have a relationship with other man. Ugh, I really hope that it didn't end up as an in*estious relationship.

I thought it was interesting that the POV was not from the FL. The story was cute and goofy. None of the main characters were that interesting. It felt like if you were playing an Otome that was thrown together in a week.
Spoiler

And as always it’s the story of the villain who isn’t really a villain and the main female who was a villain. The whole plot of the prince being a “doll” was also very awkward.

At first I was not sure if I should continue reading this but after some chapters I started to like it. The important thing is this is unique. The FL don't want to ignore other characters nor she wants them to like her. She wants become a villaness, and whole story is about how she failed. But my question is what is the age of FL and the former FL because they both literally act like a three year's old child. If I put this in a nice way- her... more>> brain is difficult to understand. But this makes it interesting. <<less

The perspective shift is hilarious and right up to the show down during the graduation ceremony I really enjoyed the story!

The rest after it felt... forced. ... more>>
Spoiler

So his personality is a bloodline defect and his son inherits it to an even worse degree, Bertia is downgraded to an absolute oblivious airhead to an even starker degree, the author seems to have completely forgotten about the existence of Bertia's brother and her friends have no role in her married life anymore. It's just a struggle between her sociopath husband, her sociopath sis-con son and her equally as helpless daughter. It feels more like a stockholm syndrom than a true happy end. Way too unnatural.

[collapse]

It should have ended with the Prince choosing Bertia of his own volition and saying that, hey, I'm a person and I have feelings myself, neither the heroine nor Bertia get to decide for me and I choose you! That would have been nice and positive. Instead we get this yandere BS and clumsily cobbled together meaningless wedding puff that just seems to be saying that modern day traditions are just soooo much lovelier than anything they could possibly think up by themselves. The epilogue downgraded it to 3 stars instead of 5. The main story was still cute and funny and highly recommended (though the side characters are way more interesting than the FL which is a sad state of affairs, but it works ok-ish), but it should have ended there. <<less

This is as goofy as it can be. The FL is cute and her interactions with the ML are pretty funny. The ML doesn't instantly fall in love, but he does quickly become fascinated with Bertia because she's fairly unpredictable. I do honestly like that the real heroine takes on kind of a villain role on this. I'm aware that this is somewhat normal, but this was one of the first ones I'd read where the heroine was actually the villain, so for me this will always be a novel... more>> aspect since my first foray into the otome reincarnation genre was I Reincarnated into an Otome Game as a Villainess. <<less

It's just so sweet and it has plot! You'll love every single character in this. And it's so refreshing for it to (as the title says) be seen from the point of view of a very VERY interesting ML. I've pored over every word of evey chapter because the story is also quite intriguing and I enjoyed the short (prolly the only con, but perfect still) ride. ❤️

This is probably my favorite story so far. I've always loved otome game reincarnation genre, but recently the templates become boring. But this is the best novel I currently in love right now. It's so interesting to read and not typical. This is very suitable for everyone who love fluff and cute love story. I love the plot, how the prince feeling developed from being only curious to totally in love. POV also unusual, making it even more interesting to read. I don't particularly into comedy, but the comedy in... more>> this novel is acceptable to me. (Well, if I compare to Bakarina, which I can't really get the comedy, also the fact POV is from Katarina, making it worse.)
But let me say, instead of the typical comedy, it's more like something you will laugh at and say "oh so cute~". And maybe because this is not harem, which also give more plus point from me.

Translator did very good job translating it too, just wanna say thank you for the translator.
I would recommend this story for everyone who loves fluffy, cute and a bit comedic romance. <<less

I highly recommend it! To sum it up, it's absolutely a very cute, funny and heartwarming story! I love it, especially since it's written with the Prince's POV. It's interesting to see his character development over time and how he's desperately chasing after his fiancée who doesn't really notice ?

In the first few chapters, I found the MC is too eccentric and s*upid so I dropped it...

I re-read it again, overlooked her s*upid actions and thought about those scenes as cute and funny. And I realised that I really like her.

The story started with hilarious, light-heart and fluffy stuffs at first, but then it got more serious when the MC entered school and interacted with the heroine.

In the end of the story, the MC revealed the reason why she insisted on her family downfall, and I couldn’t hate her anymore. She’s too kind, and having a big heart. Her reason explained all the reactions she did in the previous chapters, it made me start to re-read the whole story again.

The side story is about the wedding of the MC with the prince, which contains extra sweetness. You can read it with a big smile on your face:))

This is, clearly, a cute, light, fluffy (and diabetes-inducing) read that isn't meant to be taken seriously at all. We have no exposition of Bertia's past life beyond "she played this otome game"; whether she was a child when she woke up in this world or not, etc etc--there's nothing. The heroine is portrayed in the same manner; she knows the characters and events, but we know nothing about her.

If you are to enjoy this novel, some (or, like, a lot) suspension of disbelief about mental growth of people is... more>> needed. As well as thick face to read through the secondhand embarrassment. This novel is chock full of "dumb kids are cute" feeling, otherwise Bertia's desperate bullheadedness will irritate you quickly. Dare I say it... you need to put yourself in the prince's mindset, yandere he might be... to enjoy Bertia's cute flailing and "scheming".

Selling points:

  • A heck ton of fluff. If you need a pick-me-up feel good novel, this can be it.
  • Straightforward plot resolved in small number of chapters. The chapters are long as heck but you know... the count.... indicates no unnecessary side dramas or c*ckroach fairies who won't die after 1k+ chapters. /shudder/
  • Reading the prince's evolution of mind as he grows up around Bertia is just so precious. He might be a bit blackened at the end, but it's under control.... probably.

It's nice, but overall, it's generally... boring, if I dare say so myself. I honestly think that the premise is unique, I also find Cecil rather charming and Bertia is cute and all, but I have not yet laughed out loud (like how I do constantly with the feel-good novel of Destruction Flag Otome) or dabbed unintentionally (like in the series I Appear to have been Reincarnated as a Love Interest in an Otome Game, despite it being in the same "Check When Bored" list as this novel).

Maybe it just... more>> didn't spark something in me. I also love to give myself some good dose of diabetes however I can't help but think that Cecil is another Jared... or something. Perhaps this novel is simply not up to my preference so I'll refrain from saying more negative comments. After all, I like slightly dark stories the best, so with this themes, I think other people can enjoy it more than I do.

What I think this novel did best is the pacing. I love how each chapter corresponds to a year while they grow up. It makes it easier to navigate, and the novel knows its focus, staying within the boundaries of the summary it has given and refraining from being an info dump. The limited view Cecil provides also narrows our attention to focus on their relationship more, rather than straying far, far into the lives of the other characters. <<less

One of the best novels on this site. I have gone back to re-read this and to re-read the associated manga multiple times. It's just too funny and cute!

It's the s*upid and dense FL role, which is overdone, but this is one of the stories to make that trope popular and it's worth the read even if that particular trope has left you weary. Bertia is cute and funny and so honestly sweet. And even though original FL was turned villain (which is also overdone), I like that they give... more>> her an ending redemption of sorts in that she remains loyal to her one friend. Side characters stand out from each other decently, which is always nice. <<less

Listen here, I LOVE yanderes but this is painful to read. Actually I can do dense FLs and they are kind of refreshing sometimes but Bertias s*upidity is just obnoxious to read that I had to stop midway... I can usually read almost everything but this FL is so annoying and dense that I literally can’t take it anymore. She’s a grown ass adult at least act a bit like one? I could take it at first but she’s so sensitive I can’t put my head around it, her stuttering... more>> is also another thing that turned me off. She also just... blurts out everything? Even that she’s the villainess. I could do with that if she didn’t make it painfully obvious. It never gets better too usually I can read the tr*shiest stuff if it’s yandere but this I couldn’t bring myself to keep reading. I like the ML but the FL is f*cking annoying. I don’t get why it has so many good ratings, people are allowed to have opinions but this is the lowest form of writing😭 <<less

A light and fun read. I had finished the manga in the past and liked the story so tried the novel. Although the translation is difficult to follow at times, I enjoyed the novel too.

The prince is slightly black bellied but not evil. He finds Bertia interesting and doesn't realize until much later that his feelings for her have turned into love.

Spoiler

The prince has a special characteristic in his bloodline in which there would be geniuses who lacked feelings. They would become obsessed/pursue things to fill the void or eventually commit su*cide. In the otome game, the heroine, the fated maiden, fulfilled this void. If the prince did not hook up with the heroine, he would encounter a bad end.

This is why Bertia loved the prince but still tried to get the prince and heroine together.
