In the far reaches of the dark and frozen universe, nine enormous dragon corpses were tied with an ancient bronze coffin. It seems that they were set there since the birth of the universe. Such astonishing scene was captured by a space probe floating in the outer space.

Nine dragons and the mysterious bronze coffin made people wonder that whether they came back to ancient times or just reached the other shore of the universe. A giant mythical world was unfolded, where immortality gradually appeared and paranormal events continuously occurred.

Countless people started to find their own tracks (The Dao) in such mythical realm. Their passion was like turbulent ocean wave which would never cease. The heat in their blood was like erupting volcanoes. Their desire for power and immortality dragged them down to the chasm without knowing it.

Thirty-three classmates held a reunion after graduating. Their friendship was tested, as the bronze coffin took them away from earth and arrived in another unknown planet. The desire for living forced them to follow the path of the ancient gods. Entering a new world of cultivation, will any of them reach immortality, or will they all die along the way?

I like it a lot and it holds true to Chen Dong style of story (PW), it has no clear path and the characters aren't exactly unique but they are somewhat memorable. It does seem like it will take a while before the story starts moving somewhere but if PW is similar to this then it will be okay pace after the start is done. Chen Dong usually has interesting cultivation realms and unique novels so I think its safe to say it doesn't disappoint if you don't mind story... more>> first cultivation second xianxia. <<less

Plotholes, Plotholes everywhere.

Starts off well with an amazing concept, discards all that turns sh*t later.

MC is super lucky and gets awesome treasures, later they are discarded without so much of an explanation. For example, that seed of the Bodhi tree or the Dao scripture he received. The interesting premise ends once MC starts cultivation, then its a cliche xianxia with everyone calling him tr*sh and he beating them up. And, I had such high hopes reading the beginning, such a disappointment.

A well written cultivation novel. This is probably Chen Dong's best work. I would rate it 4/5. It is almost in the same league as ISSTH and Coiling Dragon. All the cool stuff of a Xianxia are here: Powerful experts, Bodacious Babes, Mysterious and dangerous ruins, and of course, the super lucky, smart and awesome MC.

A group of chinese college alumni in the modern days meet together on a mountain. A shocking accident happens and ancient magic tears a passage through space time and sends them in to a cultivation... more>> land. What happens next?

Spoiler

Also includes the typical arrogant and s*upid young masters, hot babes that the protagonist keeps running into for no reason, earth shaking secret stuff that everyone wants by only the main character gets, and so on.

[collapse]

If you like better written Xianxia like ISSTH, Coiling Dragon, AWE etc., then you can't go wrong reading this. If you like reading crap like WQDK, ED, ATG, BTTH, etc, then stay away.

Of course, if you like really good novels then try: Ze Tian Ji, Deathsutra, Pivot of the Sky, Instant Kill. <<less

Not bad. Entertaining for sure, and even more if you're expecting less. The world is colorful, vast and well bounded, characters are varied and the story itself is good.

That being said the writing style is overly verbose in my opinion, with too much dialogue, explicit descriptions, and redundancy. It can get very tiring reading half a chapter of obvious 1+1=2 relations, while the first few sentences implied it enough. I will spare you the details of overusing the funny interactions, cursing, eating dog meat, kidnapping beautiful princesses... It looks more... more>> like a human society story with elements of fantasy, taoism, buddhism... than an actual cultivation novel.

For more -not really spoilers- details:

Spoiler

I felt the story too conflict centered, with quite an annoying pattern. The MC rarely is left alone to introspect and grow. He only goes from places to places to get whatever ressource he needs at the moment, and somehow, he's always followed or preceded by every significant people or powers of the story (whether they are locals or completely on the OTHER SIDE of the map) so that conflict may occur. As if the side characters only exist where and when the MC is around. Anything they could've lived, and would thicken the story, while allowing the MC to actually cultivate, is thrown as info dump!

Speaking about MC cultivation, it's quite unrealistic to read that he barely closes up for more than few weeks and then he can't progress anymore "daily sitting in boredom", so he needs another pointless conflict (as if he couldn't go fight strong demonic beast instead of annoying people he shouldn't even be able to contact with his current level), while the side characters have years of actual cultivation and training and end up eating dust. There's also the complete lack of rigueur with the cultivation realms, and the ever "stronger and more perfect, without a flaw" slogan, at every breakthrough, without actual substance. Almost at the last known realm of cultivation and the MC still fights like before.

[collapse]

I think the worst is that i've never understood how he went from calm and composed guy with long-range vision to a classic chicken blooded brat, and the fact that he's supposed to pursue immortality without even trying to transcend the mortal world. As always, we start with a nice novel just to find, a third of the story later, that we're given a whole other, cliché-ridden, recycled script... sigh. <<less

A decent novel overall, lots of memorable characters (Little baby, black dog, human demon and ferocity etc.) and an extremely aggressive MC. Honestly the MC's aggressivenes later on is one of the things that will keep you going, atleast once he reaches the point where he isn't chased and suppressed by everyone, so some might look forward to that - until that point expect him to be a scoundrel and a ruffian, going around plundering and stealing with his friends. (And fighting for his life obviously)

As for the evolution from a normal modern world guy to a cultivator, I mean it's decent, but consider it more of a link for the author to integrate ancient chinese stuff into the story, stuff like Hou yi, fairy Chang'e and Kunlun Mountains etc. Is stuff you might have heard of in other novels and you see it embraced and used in this novel (Kinda like DE)

Cultivation is not brushed over in this novel, which is a plus to those that like that kind of thing. It's not just rushing, with no explanation or depth regarding different realms and techniques, but it's also not boring and completely in depth. He also adopts a side profession, something called a Source Master which I felt added a nice touch to the novel (A mix of a formation master and I guess earth reading (Dragon veins n sh*t :p)) atleast that appealed to me, as straight up cultivation and fighting can get dull. Also there is stuff like buddhism and taoism instead of just 1 rigid system.

The plot and overall story was a bit.. I guess predictable to me. But throughout the novel, even if you kinda can see through the plot at times, there is also lots of side stories about past and present events and mysteries to explore. It also skips most of the whole sect, ancient vestiges and having 9 tournaments and 33 smelting trials which I appreciate, as some authors kinda trap themselves and bore you with that whole business, it instead focuses on his circle of friends and disciples for the most part.

Expect a lot of arrogant young masters and generally arrogance in this novel, for obvious reasons - people being undefeated/born by heaven/sons and daughters of great people etc. But fear not, MC wont take no sh*t from anyone in this novel.

Last but not least the antagonists was a bit of let down, some were decent and some piss you off. But I felt that it lacked a real good one to kinda take the novel to another level. Sadly it also felt a bit rushed towards the end, as is the fault with many of these novels. But to kinda compensate for this fault, it doesn't waste that many chapters on 3rd party people commenting on how OP the MC/someone else is, giving us chapters with enough substance and not just the author trying to fill his quota.

All in all a 4/5 so a good enough novel with some common but not glaring faults. Not a novel I would put in my own top 5 but I would certainly recommend it over many other novels.

One of the better transmigration novel out there. It's slow but well written.

The transmigration to the new world doesn't happen randomly. The protagonist doesn't forget his parents, friends, etc. He actually wishes to return. A normal behavior unlike tr*sh novels like TMW where the previous life doesn't even matters.

The humor and action improves later on especially after the introduction of big black dog (Sovereign Black) . There are many heartwarming moments (the little baby <3), and most of times even though MC might seem arrogant he doesn't forgets to use... more>> his brains to overpower his enemies. Of course the plot armor is there...

If you're a fan of Chinese mythologies then this novel is definitely for you. MC tries to relate everything with the mythologies (as he was trasnmigrated on Mt. Tai so it makes sense). The mysteries are well laid out.

In short it's a very good novel provided you're looking for a well written story instead of mindless action. <<less

The premise of the story was interesting but as with the progression of the story it feels like it's going downhill. that Lin Xiao Man character is seriously irritating... she keeps popping up with no reason at all. I think the author is just keeping her to rub it in that the MC is getting stronger than her. Any other classmate is better than her...

I don't know why but this novel just frustrates me... I'll read it when I remember to but not something I'll anticipate
World build 4/5
Story so far 2/5
Characters 2/5
Spoiler

The MC was pretty good in the start but he progressively gets s*upid about people as the story goes on. Ji Zuyue is another reason why the character rating is low. For a 'high class' person who supposedly knows about 'political clan' stuff she's conveniently s*upid regarding the circumstances of the MC

Don't read the review if you reading them. Just read the novel. It's fantastic. The start may be a little bumpy and some parts of the beginning may not appear for a long time but the story is one of the best I have ever read along the likes of I Shall Seal The Heavens, Coiling Dragon, Stellar Transformations and so on in chinese novels. The only reason I am bothering to write this review is that lot of people are trying to give it a negative rating and reviews.... more>> I am just telling you to read the first 50 or so chapters and decide for yourself. There are a few problems with translations but the story is worth it to ignore them. <<less

This Novel starts with building up the mystery as it throws layers onto the story as it progress. Then it would finally reach the point where they start to see the real reason behind things happening. It starts in a mortal world like setting but then escalates to XianXia/Daoism (maybe mixture of both) like development as it progress beyond earth with the MC and the group of people involved. Characters are not bland and the MC handles situations well assuring good character development and also the plot if solid so... more>> it would be worthwhile to read as time goes.

So do not be discouraged by the beginning. I would recommend this to anyone who like mystery. <<less

Takes an eternity to set up the plot. Each chapter barely adds anything. If you want to read a novel that takes an hour of reading to set up the plot, feel free to go ahead and read. Not recommended.

A 5-stars prologue followed by a 2.5-stars story.

It starts very well for the first 100-200 chapters, then it gets quite tiring to read and boring. I usually stick to the novel until the end unless there's something big lacking. Honestly, the story itself is actually still quite good around chapter 600, but there's a core ingredient missing, and that is 'romance'.

The romance in this novel is total d*gsh*t. The author decided to introduce several girls here and there, make an arc for each one where they travel together, but then... more>> the relationship never really takes a step forward. There are several girls that are likable, but I think MC is too gay bruh. I'm at chapter 627 and honestly already tired waiting for romance arc that never comes. So, I try to take a peek on a few last chapters as authors usually write harem's names there right? Guess what... MC doesn't have a partner.. not even one. Like holy shit! I was waiting for harem because there were signs of them from how MC interacts with girls, but in the end, he's single. WTF.

I remember before chapter 600, he got laid once, but the girl didn't even get mentioned anymore. She's a side character of the story at best. It's so frustrating that I decided to write this review to warn you guys who expect romance from this novel. It's not there.

Pros:

  • The first 100-200 chapters are very very good.
  • The author is good at keeping secrets and the mysteriousness of a character.
  • It doesn't contain heavy racism.
  • There are good NPCs.
  • The story itself is quite good overall. It doesn't have that many problems aside from romance. But not many positive points as well.
Cons:

  • No romance at all. Big disappointment. The reason I dropped this novel at ch.627 (1822 ch. total)
  • Repetitive sentences everywhere which are tiring. (I read machine-translated one, so it does gets tiring if there are too many repetitiveness).
  • Enemies popping out everywhere and out of nowhere.
  • Very dumb enemies.
  • The world is flat with low-quality render. Like you can literally see everyone from where you're standing.
  • There's no cover at all. Like there's no building or something like that.
  • Dumb side characters.
  • Dumb decisions for the sake of the plot.
  • Irritating companion and pet.
  • When it gets around chapter 600, it literally is rinse&repeat, classic cliche, it gets boring.

I always wondered why translation for this stopped, now I realize it must be that translators read ahead and concluded it was not worth it.

To make a long story short a character is eventually introduced who is repeatedly insulted as being black... during the course of comedic interactions, no other irredeemable character quirks to pick out other than names like "Blackie".

I can't count how much Ive caught my lips twitching because of it. Outside of that this story by itself is average, as one might expect if you have read... more>> something like BTTH then you can simply just expect the same here. Honestly I would have dropped it if not for my quirk niche of having to finish a story once I start it, unless it crosses my threshold of shitty writing which this honestly including the racism, it borders, at this point I purist reading just to be done with this story. <<less

MC fights off a never-ending stream of a**holes, the novel

  • Don't expect the first arc (travelling to as*hole planet) to be indicative of the rest of the novel.
  • There's a bunch of poetic/historical Daoist references inserted into the story to make it seem deep, but it has zip effect on the plot.
  • Power system is explained well. Fights are boring. They're either fights between elites that drag on forever or massacring scrubs. Cultivator physics. At the start everything is still okay with Modern Earth, then on Cultivator Planet everything gets thrown out the window while still being in the same universe. Sun-sized planets with regularly gravity, constant regular fights levelling mountain ranges, planet-breaking fights with Saints and magic WMDs. It's a wonder anyone's still alive.
  • Shallow characters. Characters generally have a single character trait and don't change. Author is not good at writing romance.

There is only one thing that irritates me very much. That is his s*upidity at time of hiding from enemies. Upon seeing trouble he doesn't go in the opposite direction but rather follows him. His inability to escape is hilarious. Its like the author couldn't create legitimate troubles so he made a trouble seeking protagonist.

The start is a bit slow and it might take a while to get into the story. After a couple of chapters it gets great though.

It's quite difficult to describe what makes STH different. It is neither the plot nor the cultivation style (even if it plays a Rolle). Perhaps its the playful seriousness and slow progression. If you are ok with slow burner you should give it a shot.

Ignore comment about plotholes and disregarded items (the bodhi tree seed for example, aquired early in the first chapters gets its... more>> use now in the range c160). <<less

Where can I begin... First of all this novel is absolutely amazing.

Story 5 stars

Deepness of cultivation 5 stars

... more>> Action 5 Stars

Writing 5 stars

Cliche 4.5 stars

Let's first talk about story and cliche. The novel starts extremely creative unlike any other Xianxia novels out there. This continues to proceed throught the novel as we have countless questions to be answered which makes our blood boil. What's most intriguing is how China seems to be of reall significance to the cultivation world. Which is yet to be answered. None of the previous Xianxia has ever done this. This novel is Unique amongst Xianxia beyond comparrison.

Action in this novel is quite facsinating. Extremely exciting and unpredictable. This is because cultivation is not everything in this world. Which is quite unique among Xianxia. There are many sneaky moves where MC gets injured for him to actually win. And his might makes sense, because of his lucky encounters. Rather then saying lucky encounters you could say that MC is extremely sneaky bastard, which I love so much. Also MC is absolutely not one of those people who waits forever. There is action 24/7 I mean seriously I probably read more action in these 171 chapters then in some whole xianxia novels. The MC is in constant danger because of his heaven defying talent, and I absolutely love it!

Cultivation Is absolutely different from most Xianxia it cannot be compared to other Xianxia novels. It's really unique and exciting to read through how the author explores the cultivation that's so different to other books.

Writing is excelent and the translator is excelent as well. Can't complain it's better then some english books I read.

There is also some Cliche but it is a Xianxia novel afterall how much different can it be? There are still arrogant young masters. Although wouldn't you be arrogant if you grew up with all the people sucking up to you a the time? Now besides that. Of the Xianxia cliche I am yet to see usual pet cliche, friend cliche... In general reincarnation cliche. Time travel cliche. f*ck seriously now that I think of it there really is not that many Xianxia clichea here... Not even Alchemy cliche or Poison Cliche... god damn

In my opiniom go f*cking read this novel it's a masterpiece and you won't Regret it

Spoiler

Also Don't let others full you, by them saying it's a cliche where younger brother comes then older brother comes. That's absolute bullshit. He is being f*cking hunted!!!! You think you will send you f*cking manager to go do some uselless sh*t for you??? No you will have him by your aise and send some uselless workers who you don't give a sh*t about!

This story looks promising and unique. The idea of a regular group of people getting transported into a world of cultivator is really interesting. And it's done really well, but the characters are just annoying. They are suppose to be 26-27 years old people, but instead of working together to survive they bicker and argue like little kids. Arghh, I just want to go into the story and slap some of the character for being s*upid, I know the story will probably get better later but man is annoying.

Instead of judging this LN based on the ratings and others comment, try reading it with patience through the begining.

This novel has very high ratings in many sites and the views are high enough to land it in top 10 of its genre in many sites.

The novel is written by Chen Dong whose novel has different settings and power levels than the usual xianxia novels. I can assue you that when you have read more than 2-300 chapters, you won’t regret it instead you will be interested in reading more... more>> and more. Personally I have regretted reading many LN for 4-500 chapters where the powerlevel or the setting or the characters are no longer interesting and the novel that could be a lot more appealing starts getting booring and repetetive, not living up to its potential.

This novel is for those who are ready to read 100s of chapter of the novel. <<less

Stop comparing it ISSTH. That's blasphemy, I read untill chapter 179. The starting was interesting it got me hooked from the start. The MC was calm and collected at the beginning but later on dude became a hooligan, cursing left and right, making some s*upid decisions for someone intelligent. He gets shocked at every little thing, dude literally travelled through the universe in a f*cking coffin.

What put me off totally, was how author describe female characters, it was.. Quite weird.
