It was something that happened while I was waiting for the day of the primary school entrance exam. I realised that I had become one of the characters of a shoujo manga that I loved reading in my old life, ‘You Are My Dolce’.

The role I was assigned was a character who bullied the commoner protagonist and tried to get in the way of her love with a rich boy nicknamed Emperor; a typical villainess rich girl, Kisshouin Reika.

At the end of the story, Reika suffered the Emperor’s retribution and even her family fell into ruin. With the villain gone, the protagonist and the Emperor overcame their trials and became a couple. And they lived happily ever after.

Wait, that’s terrible for meee! The manga ended there, but I have to continue living my life after my family is ruined!

The protagonist can enjoy her romance or love or whatever on her own. I’ll erase my presence so that I don’t anger the Emperor.

Eh-? The story isn’t progressing well because there’s no villain, you say? But I’m busy saving up money and studying so that I can live well after the collapse.

I'm shocked about all the 5 star reviews. I mean, you guys seriously enjoyed it this much? After I finished chapter 43 I was unsure to drop it or to read it past c43. So I came here and read a lot of 5 star reviews. Thanks to them I will be dropping this for sure.

Let me explain what I didn't like about this:

  • This novel has similarities to a diary. You read a lot about MC's thoughts and the story progresses like this most of the time. Very little interaction between characters.
  • Huge time skips between chapters. This happens a lot. It is like you don't read a coherent story, but, well "diary entries".
  • According to some reviews, MC doesn't get any romance even past chapter 200.
  • Part of the premise apparantly doesn't have anything to do with the story. I mean, it doesn't matter if she is the villain or not. The novel doesn't do anything with the "villain" premise. She could also be an ordinary transmigrator. Is this just clickbait? Maybe it changes later in the story though, but as I read until here and got the picture of the story "flow" and direction, I highly doubt it. Also the reviews doesn't seem to show, it will change in the future.
  • Nothing interesting happens. I mean, slice of life is totally okay for me, but I need some salt in my soup. Just give me SOMEHTING, ANYTHING will do. Do something funny. Do something creative. Why are there no funny misunderstandings? There is so much potential, but I have to read about our MC sneaking out of school to buy sweets etc. (Yawn*). Yeah, she gets chubby now, because all of the sweets. Therefore she does exercise now in her room (yawn*). Oh yeah, her brother told her, there are some strange noises in her room recently and she thinks it is a ghost, but what really happend is something different: She is just cheering for herself in the room and says "yosh" to motivate herself. So she is making the strange noises herself, but thinks it is a ghost. HAHAHA, very funny, right? (Yawn*) <- You get jokes and "funny" developments on this level all the time.
I give this novel 2 stars, because I got some enjoyment out of the expactations and potential for romance and future story developments, but as I read the reviews, this... more>> story will be exactly like the first 43 chapters for a very long time. Nothing justifies this long "build up" but the reviewers seem to enjoy exactly this. They apparantly don't need any "pay off". Honestly I really don't get it and I'm quite baffled at all the 5 star ratings. <<less

If you enjoy slice of life, then this novel is for you

Our protagonist kisshouin Reika makes us enjoy with her stories and also makes us to eat more food.

The translator has done a very good job and also makes us to know more about Japan.

A leisurely slice of life with interesting and lovable characters. The MC's personality was really well done-- kind of dorky, riddled with faults, and definetely believable. Albeit light-hearted, the plots are surprisingly pretty good. I have to confess that this is my 6th times of re-reading it.

The story was narrated from the view point of our MC in a funny, quirky, and kind of dorky way. But beware, she was definetely an unreliable narrator--don't trust her every thoughts!

With the author dropping sublime hints here and there, you'll slowly get the... more>> necessary puzzle pieces to decode what was really happening in other characters' head without the MC's bias. I urged you to do a double take on conversations and remember their reactions. Especially on "romance" part.

Spoiler

I believe that Enjou likes her and have some sort of agreement with Yukino so that Reika agrees to go on 'dates' with him (+yukino though, but still...) ! And I'm half convinced that Enjou is actually Takateru's sort-of informant! (disclaimer : these are just my theory)

[collapse]

The hints are very, very subtle. Grab your magnifying glass and rainbow of imagination, guys. It's there, I swear!!

Just beware, I dont't think that he author would ever continue this. But it's alright. This is a slice of life, after all. There's nothing that "urgent" in the plot, so it wouldn't leave you hanging for too much. <<less

I don't ever stick to reading "slice of life" type romances, but this novel has to be an exception and a well earned one at that. It is funny because the romance in the novel is so.... different and completely invisible in the "conventional novel ways" but present in more abstract, almost thriller (and sometime sad, lol) type way. The comedy is genius especially in terms of how timing is shown and the characters are just everything even the mob ones. I don't think I have ever liked a MC... more>> so much or laughed so hard throughout the novel. I just hope that the novel resumes again and I can get the daily dose of Reika sama again. <<less

Love this novel esp how naive the FL is, thinking she fooled ppl but the others' POV just prove they r just pretending they don't know lol. Still confused abt who's the ML though. I'd totally ship her with Enjo-sama but he's a sad*st and there's already Yokio or sth person hanging around. But, he does seems interested in the FL though. Would totally recommend for light transmigration/reincarnation novels and foodies of course. (I learned a lot abt desserts reading this novel.) ^3^ Also, please update dear translators!! I'm waiting... more>> for who's gonna end up with the naive FL. <<less

If you get frustrated by super normal characters that monologue but don’t speak their mind this isn’t the series for you. The plot was interesting enough and the story was well paced but this is strongly slice of life with negligible romance. Still, I would have kept reading if I could find a way to like the main character but I can’t. I wish she was a little bit more bold or smart or talented or anything to set her apart. As is, she ends up being wallpaper in her... more>> own story. <<less

An extremely charming and fun light novel. I really love the fact that the story starts in Reika's primary years and slowly builds up to the "main storyline". Slowly, we see her day-to-day life as an ojou-sama and how she develops relationships between her family and friends. It's an extremely heartwarming story and before I even realized it, I have grown extremely fond of the characters in the story, especially Reika. 10/10 definitely!

It's more slice of life than romance. It's like a poor girl who've gotten used to being a rich girl and is detailing a rich girl's life however it is indeed funny. The translators have done a very good job to convey the comedic scenes as is.

IT'S GOOD BUT I'M THINKING OF DROPPIN IT.

If by any chance you are reading this with expectations for romance...

HEED MY WARNING!

BECAUSE I'VE BEEN READING TILL THE LATEST CHAPTER AND NO ROMANCE FOR THE PROTAGONIST HAS EVER OCCURRED. For 227 chapters, and waiting since 2017 (year when I started reading it), MY FRUSTRATION HAS REACHED ITS LIMIT. THE PROTAGONIST IS A DUMB DUMB.

[collapse]

Felt like the translators also lost hope of ever giving us romance any time soon... hence the updates are slow af.

GOD WHAT A FRUSTRATING READ! <<less

So long as what you are looking for in a series is as such, this work is a prime example of a slice of a modern rich girl's life. This series is probably the best out there from everything I've read. Hopefully this series has no end in sight and the translations continue.

I love this novel way wayyy too much. Its funny, the characters are enjoyable and it's just an overall good read. Top 5 light novels for sure. People say the late romance turns them off but once you read it, you kinda just like it for the humor. I'm sad tho because when I checked this Japanese website that I believe the novel was originally posted on.... it said this novel would have been most likely dropped because there hasn't been any update for 1+ years ;-;-;-;-;-;

A very pleasant slice of life with a protagonist that grows on you. And rare for amateur light/web novels, this one has a good translator who actually knows English. The readability rivals and in some cases surpasses commercial English translations. That's what bumps it to 5 stars, for me.

Unfortunately, the original author halted it unfinished at 299 chapters a year and a half ago, so it's probably dead. And the translator is clearly losing interest, the chapters coming slower and slower. So, sadly, I wouldn't recommend this to anyone since... more>> it's likely to be another never-finished story. <<less

In this novel the main character stays true to her goal. She remains as much uninvolved with the main plot as possible. At some point she does become friends with these people but that's all.
Even though this is shoujo and has an otome setting. After 200 chapters there is still no romance in sight. So I really am wondering where the story is taking us.

If I were to say it, it really reads like a diary of an oujo-sama going through her normal school life.

I've been having a good time with this web novel. Our protagonist follows Reika, who ends up dying and reincarnating into a manga she read in her past. It's a setting as common as ye olde Sword Art Online. What makes this read stand out from SA:O, however, is a strong supporting cast; Reika's "ohohoho" rich girls posse, the hot "love interests" of the manga, Reika's dopey cousin and father, Yukino and Mao, and (my personal favorites) the Maiden's Society. Reika herself is extremely entertaining, I absolutely love the comedy... more>> here.

So if I'm in love with this novel, why have I given it 3 (Accidentally cl**ked 4) stars? Well, for one thing, it takes awhile to get interesting, in my opinion. When a reincarnation immediately starts with the character being a child, I can feel my eyes gazing off into the distance. I vastly prefer in medias res reincarnation stories, and unfortunately, I was forced to wade through chapters upon chapters of the build up. I think it was around chapter...30 or 40, when Reika goes to middle school is when it started catching my attention again. The moment she got to high school was the moment I truly started having fun.

Despite that, it is absolutely full of charm and plenty of comedy, I wasted an entire day or two reading all 224 current chapters. Would heartily recommend if you want a light read and some neato slice of life. <<less

This is such a pleasant read. Mainly because the translator is so good at translating the huge amount of formal language being used, which resulted in a good experience at reading beautifully worded English. We can really see the graceful conversations between the characters inside this story. Quite a rare sight for something that is fan-translated.

Anyway, moving into the story, this is what you call a pure definition of slice of life. We follow the life of main character, and thus if you cannot come to like the main character,... more>> it would be quite hard for you to like this story, I guess. 10/10. <<less

One of the best otome reincarnation novel.

Finally an otome reincarnation that doesn't focus on only shoujo romance. A pure comedy slice of life school life with nonexistent romantic relationship.

It's a cute story. I dropped it at first because it got boring but it picks up when the MC gets to high school. If you're looking for romance between the MC and ML at this point in the story it doesn't exist. The MC is not romantically involved with anyone at this point and it's hard to guess who she will end up with.

It's a slice of life novel, I should have expected less really but I'm still disappointed. The main heroine is so incredibly unbelievable that all immersion is lost. Her personality can be sum up as "likes food, non-confrontational and dumb as a sack of bricks". That's it. That's the main heroine, other side characters are even less developed. Other reviewers say the character development is gradual, subtle, organic, etc... I would say the character development is lacking, the characters doesn't feel like humans but "cute" mimicry of what the author... more>> imagines humans to be like.

The novel also doesn't have a story either. Yes, I know it's a slice of life but these slices are like rice paper, flavorless and bland. Pretty much all progression in the story is carried by coincidences. The events are completely unbelievable, for examples, going to a temple and get attack by deers.

Why did this happen?

Who knows.

Does it have anything to do with the story?

No.

Events like this are so immersion breaking I could not continue reading. <<less

I love love love love love Kenkyo Kenjitsu.

It's pretty slow paced, set in a modern world which might be lackluster for some people, but don't let that fool you, this novel will surely brings you

giggles and smiles if you

LOVE

    1. Silly-clumsy MC who sometimes exceed your expectation, from being a cowardice bunny to a sassy Empress (for a while)
    2. Love snacking as much as the MC does
    3. Crazy pack of characters which actually have a purpose and not just there for the sake of 1D stereotypical cast noises, and plus they grow alongside MC and develop their characters even further with her.
    4. Light-hearted slice of life, which is completely believable. Even a beautiful Ojou-sama get fat and needs to diet once in a while you know! Or so our MC said...
I really recommend this for light read without any expectation for serious plot and romace, but only for pure joy of seeing our MC Reika live her life modestly and humbly, trying her best to be independent to no avail.

The characters are interesting enough to keep reading, but the protagonist is unbelievably pathetic. I refuse to believe that the main character is formerly 20 years old when she needs to go to cram school to do decently in a grade 1 curriculum. She is overwhelmed and loses composure in front of other primary schoolers from big families. In only the first few chapters does she act her age, and then she quickly devolves into an idiot.
