Story: 3.5/5, TL: 4/5

Started off well but ended poorly.

The plot set up isn't realistic as the MCs' sibling relationship happened abruptly and forced initially. I keep waiting for their romance to take off but they barely communicate their feelings/problems which caused a host of lame ass misunderstandings. At times I feel the story borderlines onto slice-of-life as there are many redundant moments about them eating, sleeping and watching tv. I would much rather the author focus on the actual plot than include all these excessive fillers. Further into the story,... more>> I actually have many criticisms. I feel that dialogues are lacking and the writing style is report-like. I often feel disengaged when reading as the events are written in a touch and go manner with little elaborations.

As the story progresses, the MCs behaved increasingly out of character. The plot veered off tangent and I thoroughly lost interest. ML is supposedly a capable barrister but I did not see an ounce of intelligence from him. Ending seemed forced and the whole mystery surrounding the FL wasn't fleshed out well. A pity, as I like this premise and it has potential to be A LOT better.

I highly recommend 'Memory Lost' if you're looking for a better amnesia/mystery romance story. <<less

"What's up with her ability to read others at a drop of a hat?
How is she so adept in fighting?
Just... who in the world is this girl?"

but when you read the f*cking book, you realise that other than TWO puny little scenes where she shows off her skills, MC is basically a helpless Loli.

where is the bad-assery promised in the blurb??

Spoiler

almost r*ped in a dark back alley. there was heavy rain. she noticed there were people following her and had to call Mo Han (our cookie cutter ML who DIDNT answer bc apparently they were in a fight or something)

there was a mini flashback where the writer went: little did Mo Han know ignoring this call would eventually be one of his biggest regrets in life.

there was something weird about the timeline tho. apparently the first call he got was when she was lying on the ground after they ambushed her, but when he rushed there it was already like 20+ mins since the first call. he called back and felt a bad feeling when she didn't answer but when he got there apparently they (potential rapists) were still unziPpiNg thEiR pAntS, which took suCh A lOnG time bc it was rainiNg and thus harder for them to strip her and themselves.

to mc's credit she tried to fight back but got beaten up super badly... I know, badass.

i immediately noped the hell out bc I came here for an amnesiac badass queen who can save herSELF from situations and baddies. but after showing off her skills for a bit, her skills seemed to have reached a cool down limit of 100000 years. literally she becomes so useless lmaoo

but on the plus side, at least the translation quality is pretty good. as expected from QiDian ig ?‍♀️ all the novels they have, especially the ones literally forcefully taken away from right under other translators' noses, are of good quality.

character development: -5/10
<BC THE MC REGRESSED!! SHE LOST HER BLOODY SKILLS CMFMKDKFJD WHAT DEVELOPMENT
unless you ignore the glaringly obvious flaw of the story being unlike what the description promised (badass mc) : 4/10>

plot development: 4/10 ?
<if you ignore the MC. if you add the mc: -5/10>

translation quality: 9/10
<-1 point bc I'm salty as heck about the descriptions. sry nt sry>

Disclaimer: I did not read this novel in its entirety, only a few chapters in the beginning, jumped in the middle here and there, then about the last few.

I read my fair share of C-novels which are pretty notorious for having plot holes and unrealistic events, especially ones with female leads (quite unfortunate, I must say) but this one reaaaally bothered me. I get what the author was trying to set up which was starting the 2 leads off as siblings but the execution was rather poor. For example,

Spoiler

The FL gets into an unknown accident so she lies on the road clearly bleeding to death and all the bystanders can do is run away–what–I thought you were supposed to call the emergency number. AND coincidentally the only person that did that was our MALE LEAD, a complete stranger that also just paid all her expensive bills and left. Oookay moving on, I push that aside, but what peeved me the most was the dialogue between the nurse and doctor continues "The nurse cast a glance at the pale, immobile patient who looked anaemic. She pursed her lips. "Well, as a person of unknown origin, it would be good if she were to wake up, but what should we do if she were to die here at our hospital?" Okay now, what. I'm pretty sure the event that a person of unknown identity is not that obscure. Especially in HOSPITALS. After the nurse says that the doctor responds with, "Doctor Zhang rolled his eyes helplessly at the nurse. "Even worse, she could go into a vegetative state. That would really be troublesome!""

[collapse]

The author seems to be lacking in many areas, not just plot execution per se, which as a reader I've come to notice more and more as I read. It just seems illogical which peeved me the most. I can do strangers becoming siblings but what I can't do is how weirdly this is set up. I have read much more poorly translated novels, I would not say this is the worst, I think the fault lies more on the author. The translations and writing are much better at the end of the novel than the beginning. That being said this novel does have its good points like some of the plot twists and the interactions btw the ML and FL. The ending probably disappointed me the most, like what a previous review mentioned about the "forced angst to bring an ideal ending", which to me should've extended a few chapters more in the name of fluff. Read the spoiler if you want to just know how it ended.

Spoiler

Thoughts on the ending: ML and FL get into an argument bc ML is jealous of FL's ex (who is in prison) but doesn't want to hear about FL's POV on it bc he's doesn't want her talking about other guys. Ok. Honestly, this is just how it should've rolled out after, the FL leaves the apartment doesn't come back to the next morning, they talk about it, hug makeup and the author could just go on to write an epilogue about a happy life (I WANTED TO SEE THE FLUFF US READERS DESERVED) NO. This is what happened. FL walks out, doesn't come back, ML worried sick and she decides to go to a different city to have FUN. Mind you she walked out without money, luggage, toiletry NOTHING. The city she travels ends up in a sandstorm so ML is now devastated, regrets, abandons his work and travels there to look for her. He can't find her and decides to wait for her in that city. IT DOESN'T END. She isn't dead but somehow wakes up in AMERICA. Author. Why. (Never got how she ended up there) It takes them 50 days to unite. ML's life is so screwed up bc the "light of his life is gone" and has surgery amidst this waiting–surgery that his friends dragged him to do. He wakes up from surgery, she calls him, (she comes back to China bc a nice person in the airport in America decided to buy her a ticket she gets on with no ID) they reunite, the end. yes, I was like wtf, I give up. There should be limits to this ridiculousness. I think the point the author was trying to get at was making the ML regret not listening to her and have the bs idea of "I will never let you go ever again" crap.

[collapse]

TL;DR Author had a novel idea, but poor execution killed it. There should be limits on illogics. Only read if you want to see the interactions btw FL and ML which is prolly the only perk of this novel. <<less

Hmm... Maybe 8.5/10? Well, .5 because the synopsis is kinda misleading. The FL is not as overpowered as it was portrayed or foreshadowed in the synopsis. Well, at first she's kinda like that. She even helped the police to help the r*pe-homicide case but as the story progresses, it kinda regress and what's left is their emotional problems. I was honestly expecting for some light hearted scenes when I saw this, but I didn't expect that it was heavy drama. (So I decided to add a lot of tags because... more>> the tags are really lacking). I'm honestly not into stories like this. What I hate the most is countless misunderstandings between the protagonists, but for some reason, I don't want to drop this. Why? It has a lot of potential and it's honestly good. I mean, though I hate misunderstandings but what I hate the most is that the misunderstanding was caused by some bit*h who cling to the ML and thank goodness it's not like that. Their problems were usually because of internal conflict instead. Fear, anxiety and traumatic experiences. But it's really good.

The remaining 1 point is because I WANT SPECIAL CHAPTER!!! The story ended with just Xia Qinyi going home with Mo Han. I want more than that. Though I'm not saying I want more conflicts, I just want more fluffs alright? (if there's snu snu, why not? Just kidding~~)

The supporting characters are just background characters. The story revolved between the ML and FL, mainly the ML taking care of the FL and the FL wanting to heal her scars from the past and accepting to move forward with the ML.

Anyway, despite this story being a heavy drama, I still recommend this. For anyone who like drama but doesn't like the dramas that was caused by some peach blossom (b*tches), go on and read this. This is a good story that although will sometimes make you impatient but will certainly not make you feel hundred percent annoyed. Their conflicts are kinda like a cycle but they will reconcile afterwards anyway. Maybe what made me not drop this story is because the emotions are realistic? I mean, yes everyone, I know we like that domineering but doting and devoted handsome CEO, and that smart, calm, overpowered and veryyyy talented FL but this story is really not that. There's helplessness, fear, immaturity, maturity, frustrations and such real emotions that couples usually feel when they're still developing. It's not like every story has a power couple with deep trust to each other and can solve their problems immediately, right? <<less

The synopsis is a lie!!!

I'm going into this and expect some fun, kick ass FL story. What I got is a reckless idiot who put herself in dangerous situation over and over again.

If u enjoy super dramatic, emotional drama, then this is for u. I prefer light hearted stuffs where I don't get mad when MC did something dumb.

Don't read this if you are sensitive to r*pe material. She wasn't r but almost. (I don't blame victims ever, no matter how "reckless" they are. But this is a story written... more>> by some one who use serious trauma as a cheap dramatic plot line.. so plz let me be mad).

The male lead seems ehhhh (from what I have read). There are major red flags w him too... like over over possessiveness. The FL mentioned multiole times how she was scared of a certain side of him (possessive angry as*hole side).. so yah <<less

FL is nothing like the synopsis potrays her to be. ML is a bastard and FL is a reckless idiot.

I only kinda finished this cause it was short (for a cn novel) and I don't really like this. The characters are disastrous.

There are way better stories out there.

Let me see.. It was unusual setting. I liked how the was no unnecessary misunderstandings. First half was pretty good. The mystery unfolding was done pretty well. I just have one complain last few chapters seemed unnecessary. It seemed like forced agast to bring story to an ideal ending.

Well, damn. ML is an as*hole and FL is a reckless b*tch. :)
Spoiler

ML is an as*hole to his ex girlfriend, seriously. *Rolls eyes* 3 years of their relationship and he didn't take that much of an initiative to take care of her. He was a cold boyfriend and at the same time, a passive one since he still respected his ex.

FL is sensible . FL is only sensible to ML and the rest is just her self-interest. At first, FL knows her place as a stranger-sibling of ML. But no, not anymore when she became too dependent on ML. And ML is like, "Oh this girl is special but I don't know why and how but I can't bear to see her hurt". Honestly, the progress from seeing her as a stranger to a sister (or someone important) can still be observed at first. But after that *sigh* things just got out of control and it feels like the author was just writing whatever he/she wanted to happen. You know how I feel? Lol

And what I don't like the most is when FL acted like a b*tch. Yes, a b*tch. The type that is unreasonably selfish. I didn't really like how she rejected ML's confession and yet, she still wanted to live with ML as a sibling. And she's not as smart as it was portayed to be. She was reckless sometimes. Her fighting skills only returned when she already recovered her memories.

But hm, I could say that the dependent trait of FL (and being timid and helpless) can be explained by her trauma and memory loss. If you perceived things in that way, the novel is tolerable to read. *Nods*

[collapse]

So I gave it a four star rating (too high maybe but I still enjoyed reading it) It's a short novel that I don't have to take so seriously (despite of how serious their situation is written).

If you want some easy-going reading, go ahead and read this. You might also enjoy scenes that make your stomach churns because of (little) heartbreaks. There's also a risk of getting a bit irritated but it's still tolerable just so that fact that I managed to finish it. *Shrugs*

Rating over all 4.5

Plot: 4.0

Characters: 4.5

... more>> I read this about 4 months ago so so what I will write is the impression of the story for me because I don't remember some of the details so here it is.

Honestly, despite other people saying that this story is mediocore, It's one of the best amnesia themed story that I ever read.

The MC remained mystrerious until the before the ending and I love how she associates her life under the darkness of the ocean, it makes you somehow feel relatable to the character.

I also love how the main leads stayed consistent throughout the story and the phasing of the story in romance aspect is slow because it just fits to their personalities.

If you read the start of the story, you would know that the girl is not your ordinary girl and you'll expect that its mostly contained of action scenes but its not.

Its pure romance with unraveling the mystery of the mc's past. And thats the charm of it. Their relationship is healing me altho there are some misunderstanding but still.

I think its also nice that although its an amnesia story, it's very different to other MCs getting entagled with the people in the past, its refreshing.

The character development is mostly from the male lead, he was a steel turned into a slimy jelly lol.

My only complain is the last scenario or part of the story

Spoiler

where the MC was stuck to another country because of the sandstorm and become a s*ave like in a filthy factory of something

[collapse]

I felt that it was so unecessary, like the author put it so that that would be the last obstscle of their relationship and then there'll be the happy ending after that.I think its more okay is the author just silently ended the story with good atmosphere.

There are some of the scenes and characters that aren't realistic but you can overlook it just like the ending.

Overall its really a good story, I somehow envy their relstionship, I want a Mo Han, definitely my ideal type, Lmao. <<less

Well.. Well.. Well.. Good story. Finally male lead is in different profession and even female lead. Story is between a well settled and intelligent lawyer and the girl with memory loss. How slowly love develops between them and later peek towards her past. Rather than stories with thousands of episodes I prefer short sweet stories and I loved this. Go on and give it a try.

This is quite a good novel. The FL has lost her memory but displays some unusual skills. At least till one every thing is very believable. The ML is the typical cold emotionless lead but he clearly has a soft spot for the FL. No romance yet but there is s slow build. Recommended if you want a break from the never ending shenanigans of evil family and friends trying to push the FL out

4/5☆

I finished this story a few minutes ago and what I want to tell to you is that if you're interested in reading this, then you better prepare your heart and stomach, because there is a LOT of drama. The intensity of the novel will increase the more you read, like I feel like I started reading one story and ended up reading another.

The novel can be divided into four parts (it is a small summary that does not reveal much information) :

1: The beginning, in which the protagonists begin... more>> to meet and live together. They begin their sibling relationship.

2: The reunion with her family (FL) and all the ups and downs (there are a lot of twists here). Their brother and sister relationship begins to change into something else.

3: The memory of her past (FL). Here, we find out about her traumatic childhood and her involvement in the mafia. Their relationship changes completely (they start dating).

4: The end. The protagonists go through a terrible separation and have to overcome all obstacles to get back together.

The novel is not bad, but there are some things that are unaceptable to me. Others have comented about it so I'm not going to talk about it.

Enjoy! (My english is a little bit bad so, sorry if some parts feel weird) <<less
