Edit: As of ch50: There are way more plot holes and conveniences to come and the writing is a broken mess. But IF you can adapt to the terrible writing I guess I can see people reading this (since a lot of us NUbs consume tr*sh novels religiously). It's still bad, though.

What started off as an interesting, if unoriginal story turned into total crap by what is quite possibly the biggest bullsh*t out-of-nowhere display of PLOT I've ever seen.

Story: A young man awakens to find himself transmigrated into a new... more>> world in a new body. He seeks to understand the world around him with his sketchy, unreliable memories only to realize this new world is one full of mysterious, supernatural powers, mystical knowledge, forgotten dynasties and even hints of great, unknown machinations at play! What does this new world hold for him? Perhaps he can find out as he carves out his own path- BRRRRRRRT ERROR!

AUTHOR LAZINESS DETECTED!

INITIATE PLAGIARISM MODE: QUANTUM COMPUTER INSTALLING... BRRRRT ERROR-

STORY CONTINUITY BROKEN... IGNORING... IGNORING... CONGRATULATIONS, YOUR BRAND NEW DEUS EX MACHINA HAS BEEN FULLY INSTALLED!

Either the translator is just outright skipping giant chunks of the story or this son of a biscuit author just reached right down and pulled out a giant load of crap from his trousers. It came completely out of nowhere!

I have endured reading the first twelve chapters of this, hoping the story would improve or get a move on. Significant sections of the chapter describe women's breasts (including the MC's sister's and a young girl's who gets mol*sted by the MC's friend) or legs, but faces and attire aren't described. Why is there a hot water tap in a castle? Do they even have running water? Isn't this a medieval setting?

The writing is incredibly redundant, reminding us about the MC's memory problems every couple of paragraphs. The explanations for... more>> the setting aren't clear, and the MC hasn't investigated his background or anything. His friends never wonder why he's acting so unlike himself.

The plot holes are so extensive that I can't bear to read anymore. Not recommended.

There are also missing words by the translator filled in with "..." <<less

Although it seems like this novel plagiarized from other biochip novels, it's actually not true. This novel came out before most (age of adept 2016, wmw 2015, advent of archeage 2016, mage revolt 2016). If it copied any novel it's probably wizard world 2012 (which I'm sure the others also took inspiration from). On a serious note of you've read all the books that came after this novel then you would notice similarities. So far I'm reading raws and I'm in the 100s and I can tell that it's not... more>> as great as the others but it's ok, if you have nothing to read and looking for another biochip novel. But be warned the author repeats himself so much that you'll be reading the same sentence as least 3 times per chapter (just in different wording).

Edit (completed) : Honestly I have to say he didn't stop repeating the same thing over and over (slows down a bit though).

The main character pretty much got what he needed when he just so happens to need it. You can basically say that he didn't really have a lot of challenges and when he did the problem was easily solved.

Also like Sircus said pretty much the last 30 chapters made a plot point in the previous chapter useless.

If you want to read with similar plot point I'm sure others have done it better (for me wmw was a better version). <<less

I liked it in general, a decent 3 star. While it has a slightly rushed ending, it has one. I would personally have preferred it ending about 50 chapters earlier ... more>>

when the MC met Orenba who had guided his path. It was hinted earlier that Orenba was the only latitude traveler and that he had been trying the uplift others to reach his strenght but had always failed. The last 50 chapters changes it to much compared to what was said/implied earlier. Would have been a better ending there.

As for the central theme of the novel, the biochip, it totally doesn't get the spotlight it deserves, it´s mostly used as a glorified calculator.

What could have been better was a true reflection of the brutality occurring in pursuit of strength. Here it´s mostly glossed over with endless resources and knowledge everywhere. Due to this, I would dub this story the shounen version of WMW. It´s not a clone though even if they share many of the same elements, the story has its own unique storyline. <<less

It doesn't really matter which novel came first, the point is that there already are 2 other novels translated with identical premises...

Either way, so many Chinese authors seem to have no sense of shame nor any common sense whatsoever. To blatantly and repeatedly copy a plot like that.... despite all the bullshitting in CN about "face" and shit, they appear to not give a damn that they look like the biggest buffons in industry

The Gia chick disappeared after she left with the MC infront of the ENTIRE SCHOOL or whatever that place is called. He isn't interrogated right away or anything?

Furthermore that Etha guy was acting all grandiose and mighty infront of those Church personnel, then proceeds to get slain by that guy with 1 ability?

That princess suddenly feels a sense of belonging to the MC after he forced her to become 'his woman'?

"Although Merlin's tone was calm, a piercing killing aura seemed to stir in his cold voice. The air around Merlin's body even made Prat, who had experienced killing for a long time, felt a chill down his spine"
Yop a brat from earth that had been in this world for a short duration suddenly has a Killing aura as described?

All I could say nothing less than what I expect from your run off the mill Chinese Author.

The story is not my cup of tea, is another reincarnation tale that is use to conveniently own an AI chip for the plot. I didn't really learned anything about who he really was as a person or the knowledge he had in his previous life, and it is practically non-existent. The use of the AI chip as another mentioned is just a glorified calculator. It is also a harem not my favorite genre.

I usually don't leave comments because my English is terrible but this time I needed to comment.

This is a 4/5 story.

It is interesting to read and becomes better at 400+ but there is nothing special about it. It's a good story for those who like the magic genre.

Many people are talking very badly about the story and characters being easily discarded, but from the beginning the author makes it clear that a wizard's journey is lonely. They live long and meet many people. MC strengthens very quickly and it is... more>> impossible for him to maintain relationships with people who cannot keep up with his growth.

All the people MC interacts with (including your dad) are just a short moment on your journey.

The chip is a cheat only in the early stages of power after it is apparently useless. <<less

This book is a good read for a magic book. Sadly, it is also this fact that makes it uptight. The author focused so much in how the MC grows as a spell wizard that the reincarnation and AI chip becomes a weak feature of the book. A modern man reincarnates in a magic world and leaves no trace of being a modern man afterwards. No aim for modernization nor is there any other help from the AI aside from analysing magic. It's a single feature AI brought up only... more>> to the story to make the MC seem cool.

the rest of the novel is alittle long winded. Usually, it takes a little time to explain/describe stuff so readers would feel that the world of the book is authentic but this book is unnecessarily long winded. If you like to get to the action, you might feel bored reading this for the first few chapters. The battles are not as expectacular as I would like. <<less

Okay first of I usually try to read about 200-300 chapters of these kind of chapters but for this one I actually had to push myself to even want to read past chapter 150.

This one started out fine but quickly went downhill fast. As others on here have mentioned the story is not really original and it feels like a lot of the plot was stolen from novels like Warlock of the Magus World until you realize this novel was released 2 years before it. The Wizard World however was... more>> released the year before and even though I also find that one not to be great it is a fresh of breath air compared to this one.

To start of I usually prefer if a bit of love/romance is included even if it is lackluster, barely relevant or developed. This novel however takes the whole part to a new low and most girls are described by the way of their breasts, one woman in particular is the MC's step mom who is mentioned quite a fair bit and makes some appearences in the first 100 or so chapters. In everything I've read so far I have no memory of her name ever being given or that she is described in anyway outside of the fact that she is the wife of the MC's father, the mom of MC's half sister and his step mom. The way she is named in the story is Big-Breasted Madam (I actually had to go check the raws if the translator doing this on purpose only to find the author really called her by this name all the time) and she is described to have a huge pair of knockers.

The MC's special power is just suddenly introduced in the story in the way of him studying magic and saying oh I wish my previous lives bio-chip named The Matrix transferred over with me. Beep-boop Matrix is starting up after user using the start up command. Then he has the Matrix analyse a spell by reading it and it creates hundreds of thousands of different version of the spell, Most of which are all much better then the original spell even though the Matrix has no information about magic or anything to cross-reference to improve it. However it can't create new spells or such cause you know that would be to easy. So even if he feeds it a bunch of different spells of different elements it can't make new one's since that would be cheating.

Basically the super power is mostly unused, forgotten or something then it feels like the author has been reminded by commentators so the author instead makes comments that makes no sense in the story about how that doesn't work or it can't do that for some bull reason.

Overall though the story is mediocre, characters are forgettable, the magic is whack and the girls are treated as slabs of meat for the MC to put his d in. So yeah not my cup of tea this one. <<less

MC feels too detached from the world and its really hard to care about anything once we realize that. Other characters are two dimensional and are forgotten fairly quickly later on. I have read many magus novels and almost all of them share this problem. I like novels with pragmatic MC and I love novels with magic elements but I can't stand novels which throws its characters every other chapters and introduces new ones to do the same and not to mention treating female characters as pieces of meats for... more>> our MC to enjoy. I hope someday I can read a magus novel without these particular problems. <<less

Not a comprehensive review or anything, but this novel has a game of thrones vibe to it. Don't get attached to any characters. A lot of the plot feels disjointed to me. I wonder if the rough draft/story board time line was thrown down and the author did their best to try to connect the dots. The title is a loss to me as well.

Spoiler

Wrap up to the end feels rushed and hollow. Like a cliffhanger like "that's it? Nothing more?" Aside from the lackluster story, the ending makes it all such a waste. Its like going to university, working hard to get straight A's to graduate top of class, only to drop out the day before you can graduate. That is just how I feel about it.

"a normal Spell Caster would have been dead, but Merlin was different."

Yeah, he has plot armour. His level of existence is linear, he exists in a 1 dimensional world. Of course nothing can kill him even if you impale him with three dark rays, not even close.
Seriously, what kind of writer can add this sentence in this story... He's basically saying all the other characters are made of paper but his MC is made of bamboo. He's admitting that his "normal characters" are just flawed, normies who have no... more>> reason to exist but to highlight the MC's greatness.

The characters have poor description, no sense of existence, no reason to be alive, no particularity or trait that give them meaning. They're just sidekicks he mentions in passing to highlight the MC's story.
There's no foreshadowing in the plot, we advance in a linear straight line without any suspense or anticipation. It's so... bland.

Why would someone write this kind of story where they don't even take the time to describe the background.

Spoiler

The magic system is so shallow, it's been 128 chapters and the spells described are: fireball, frost, dark mist, lightning net, earth guard, gale. There's there's the variety of big and small fireball, big frost...

[collapse]
It's so cringy, there's no depth. It's just bland. The MC meditate to increase his mind power but there's no real sense of it. We don't know if his mind power is stronger than his peers, no importance is placed on it. All we know is that he has a cheat, but then even his cheat is not that important this early.
He has a father, a big breasted madame (imagine calling a character big d*ck or big butt...) two wives but eh, we know little to nothing about them. Their value and life story in this book is as thin as a cicida wings.

Fights are monotone. I would have preferred to have the author skip them entirely. The author seems to have decided to make the MC stand above others even when his enemies are two levels above him. He has a debuff aura on him that make his enemies become dumb and his allies to trust him unconditionally with their lives.

The point is: I, a reader can't have fun reading an author who doesn't even enjoy talking about his background, characters and plot.
It's a linear description of the MC's life. Any other character or element is irrelevant and will be moved to the side. <<less

Started out as an interesting blend of Eastern and Western Fantasy, then (c100-200) falls back into a somewhat okay standard Wuxia with that uses Western Fantasy words instead of the usual Wuxia Terms, then (c200-300) devolves into tr*sh.

Reasons:

Worldbuilding: The initial decent concept gets progressively buried by the flippant introduction of new concepts in offhanded remarks by the MC "Oh yeah, so that exists" or "OMG, I've heard about it before, but I haven't mentioned it until now because it's so rare" which then appear in every subsequent chapter.

Fights: Nobody knows... more>> how to dodge unless they're facing a spell that they know is stronger than their defense (the reason why the MC wins his flights). All fights are head-on confrontations, even when the author says otherwise it all comes down to whose offense overpowers whose defense, (no tricks or traps or ambushes after c100-200). Except for the main character nobody knows how to combo and nobody else wins by catching anybody off guard. Including the main character nobody tries to use their ability is in clever ways.

Author: Has a terrible naming sense, and (starting from c100-200) forgets things he wrote after a dozen chapters leading to contradictions that become more and more frequent as the story goes on.

The main character: He's not a genius and he knows it, he relies on his cheat and that's okay. The problem is he doesn't take full advantage of his strengths and abilities. He knows what his flaws are and he doesn't even try to rectify them. Probably because that would make him to overpowered. There is no character development, only character devolvement.

Cultivation System: The only interesting thing that remains of this train wreck is eventually made a relevant by the constant introduction of rare new power-ups which every Tom d*ck and Harry gets after their introduction.

Some may like it, but my standards have been raised too high by reading Lord of Mysteries, so I can only call it tr*sh. <<less

You want a cohesive story that's both interesting and compelling built upon a bedrock of world building and history? With a unique main character and a bunch of in-depth side characters that aren't just there for the MC and have their own actual character arcs? Combined with a intricate yet solid power system that isn't cheapened by a nonsensical 'golden finger'?

That's what you want?

Then don't read this.

Man, it's like the author took every interesting thing he could think of and instantly threw it out of the window the quickest way... more>> he can.

Oh, spell models? F you, here's a random cheat that wasn't ever mentioned or even hinted at before.

Oh, a character that might have significant impact later? F you, they're dead. Or they're just there to be the MC's foothold.

Oh wow, politics?! Nah, no politics. That's too hard. Just things happen because I say they do. No subtext, no clever fighting between oppositions. <<less

Mediocre.

Why¿ It has the copy of another novel, but is introduced as a western MAGIC/WIZARD in a chinesed way, which is its total demise.

A western style novel isnt supposed to have typical characteristics of typical wuxia/xianxia or even xuanhuan. Most of the time I feel that "Shadow in the Moon" has 0 idea how to continue to make it interesting. A good example is his biochip "The Matrix"; can only deal with calculations, but SitM decided to very poorly develop it, it can basically deal with spell models easily, and... more>> help him do potions incredible cheat; BUT, for some reason, it cant do anything else like detect the status of a close (physically) being nor degree of dmg, something that I feel, is another failure.

Good points (not good enough) :

Writing is completely fine, is alright, good. -Story is lacking what a MC story should have, feels like a sidestory novel or random prequel, sometimes-

Naming isnt cringe, it does have "hints" to a few thingies but there isnt much to say. Is all good.

As ive said, it feels like the overextended story of a novels spin-off or sidestory, and the "side-characters" here, hence, feel like grass BUT family matters are at least something, its obvious SitM tried and I like it when they try to do such a thing which is common sense and basically a kind of law of logic.

Finally, it has a few thingies from TWW, is a good small detail and very enjoyable, relaxing even.

Is basically boring, more or less as boring as WMW but MC is at least not an a**hole, jerk, scumbag, bastard and -seriously- a degenerated.

Well deserved 3* not any less but definitely, not any more, never. <<less

This is a pretty crappy novel. MC is reborn into a medieval fantasy world where he suddenly gains a calculator called the Matrix that helps him with his spells. None of this is explained. And oh god - he's h**ny and so, so s*upid. Every woman in this novel exists only to be described in terms of their appearance. One of them tries to kill him, and he lets her off because she's pretty - only for her to immediately report back to her superior and conspire to mu*der him... more>> again. Such a f*cking idiot. Tldr: relatively unoriginal setting, idiotic horndog MC, flat female characters. <<less

Pacing seems REALLY off. The author keeps leaving clues and character backstories and then either immediately forget about that character for hundreds of chapters or immediately kills that character.

If the pacing was fixed, then I would agree that the novel portrays a rather realistic view of cultivation. The world is cruel and uncaring about your goals and ideals. Regardless of what cause you have to cultivate, if you f*ck up, you die. There is no get out of jail-free card for anyone in this novel... except for the main character.

Spoiler

A side character yells about how they can't die now since they have a vendetta they need to fulfill. The main character saves this side character. They team up for it a bit. Two chapters later, the side character gets poked to death by a god while the main character "miraculously" lives due to plot armor. The vendetta and the side character is forgotten. In general, every character is treated like this: his wives, his father, his family, his school, his teacher, etc. All of them are forgotten.
