I put off a review for this one for quite a while, but I guess I've got my thoughts sorted out by this point so here I go.

Short and sweet is that it's a campy giant robot fighting story. If you enjoy stories where the MC is in a special mech fighting mooks and wiping the floor with them, you will like this. It avoids a lot of the haremsh*t paths that stories these days tend to have with a single obvious love interest who doesn't really detract from the... more>> plot.

My two biggest problems are thus: first off, as a software engineer, I was hoping for more sitting down and writing magical script with explanations of basic coding practice applied to Bass ackwards frontier knight magic, but I guess that was too much to ask for. Oh well.

Second, I cannot honestly say that I have ever felt that a member of the core team has ever been in real danger. It makes the stakes feel really low. I mean, shit, one or two people making a noble sacrifice to save the ship of characters would go a long way.

All in all, a good time waster. I wanna read the next volume, so I guess I'm still a fan after 7 volumes. <<less

Do you like giant robots? Yes? Then go ahead; it's honestly about as simple as that.

To go into further detail, while it does have the typical cliche of the OP protagonist, said OP protagonist isn't that bad because the novel goes into detail about how he trained really hard to become that OP instead of it being due to luck. It makes it clear that anyone who trained as hard as the protagonist could theoretically become as strong. Furthermore, if you hate harems, there's none of that here. Furthermore, while... more>> the protagonist does use his personal common sense to advance technology, I found that the explanation for why the protagonist's and the world's common sense on how to treat the mecha to be 100% justified especially if you consider that the time the world takes place in is pre-industrial/scientific revolution.

The highlight of this novel series are the magical mecha research and development sequences. The explanations for the technology and mecha designs are always fun to read. Unfortunately, in contrast, the action scenes aren't as strong, even if they are usually adequate. The first three volumes don't have much of an overarching plot and are very slice of life. The seeds of a plot are planted in volume 2 and manifest in full form at volume 4 though.

The protagonist is largely a static character and doesn't really go under much character development, but the side characters get their own somewhat interesting character arcs that let some of them be likable. None of the side characters individually are strong enough to carry the story along, but even though the protagonist doesn't really develop as a character, he is pretty easy to empathize with if you like giant robots enough and is compelling enough to be the center of the story.

But seriously, the medieval mecha are cool. And in the end, perhaps that is all that truly matters for the hardcore mecha fan. <<less

Do you like Isekai Stories? Do you also like Giant Robots? If you happen to like them both like me, then this Novel is the epitome of men's wet dream. Also as a bonus, the MC is cute. Cuteness is Justice! Giant Robot will save the World! And this Novel has both! So this novel is The Justice that will Save The World! Wooo! Yeah!

Ahem... *cough*

So, this is a story about a young man (?) changing the world through his hobby. And his hobby happens to be building Giant Robot... more>> so of course, expect a lot of Robo Fight (Woooo! Yeah!). The story focused on Political and Mecha Building with a little Romance Subplot, so expect a lot of talking and confusing Jargon about Mecha Building.

I really recommend this if you're also a Mecha enthusiast and Isekai story lover like me. <<less

I love the concept of this but I cant take the hero seriously because of the name, same with location names, they use Finnish word and the capital city they live is called Hangover (Kankkunen) and Laihiala is basically place in Finland where all the jokes are directed. Still, great idea, lots of fun things in the novel, but my god... the names xD

I rate it 4.5/5 stars coz it's not a typical stud harem novel. I like the MC and the plot. He only cares about robots and everything about mechs. I love the team work and relationship between friends.

Everyone should read this novel. I super like it.

I will admit I have a bias to this series. I am a mech fan and this series combines Mechs with Fantasy. The MC is a Mech otaku who happens to be a pretty good programmer. The series is a wish fulfillment series where the MC does what he always wanted to do, build and pilot mechs.

The progress of the series is a bit slow but it is a novel series and it does some nice world building. The characters are interesting in their own way and sometimes fall into... more>> tropes, but that is not a bad thing as each have their own strengths and weaknesses. The MC is overpowered but not because of some outside force, he applied his programming skills to magic and can become completely obsessed with the tasks at hand. He did start training to be a Knight at the tender age of 3.

What I really like about this series is that it keeps things interesting, and nicely escalates the difficulty for the MC in addition it does add some nice comedy to the situation but it is not forced. I think this is a nice series that takes the notion of being transported to another world and does it on a good note. <<less

This novel was made for Mecha Otaku (hardcore) whose interested in a fantasy setting. Our MC is rather gender neutral, a boy who looks pretty girly. The story pretty much revolves our building and improving Mechs. Our MC pretty much solves all worldly problems with new Mech design. So it's a cycle of battle, redesign and repeat again with more battle. The author keeps it interesting with different enemies (Mechs and Kaijus) and of course new design to overcome new opponents. The only original take is the magic fantasy world... more>> with an MC whose strong in combat, software and Mech engineering. Disclaimer: I admit to being a big fan of Mecha genre, hence the 4 stars rating. YMMV. <<less

Usual reincarnated into a fantasy world but with a twist, rather than sword and magic its piloting mecha via magic. As a fan of mecha, this LN hit the spot for me. Although its pretty much cliche and shounen-ish as reincarnation themed stories go, at least the mecha focus made it unique story. If you hate mecha then this LN might not be for you.

Setting & lore: Its very original imo and I love it. Fantasy world with magic and monsters. People there don't fight with swords and magic but... more>> rather pilot mecha/robots which are a fusion of magic and technology. Various kingdoms litter the continent with complicated relations and diplomacy. There are also tons of uncharted regions inhabited by dangerous monsters big and small that can pose a threat to humanity. There are also other sentient fantasy race. The theme is pretty much "War" and "Crisis", quite a bland encompassing plot.

Main Character: Basically a gunpla otaku reincarnated into the mecha fantasy world. Very passionate about the mechas called Silhouette Knights and a genius at that, sometimes too enthusiastic it gets annoying. He is the cliche shounen protaganist which is kinda of a let down: he values friendship, has an affable and charismatic character, is an intelligent individual but dense when it comes to romance, a competent leader and strategist, he defends the weak and destroys evil, is pretty OP in combat and a genius at creating Silhouette Knights so much so that he revolutionize its technology etc; basically the cliche shounen MC tag. Oh, and he looks feminine too which provides some comedic relief.

Side/Other Characters: His entourage are made up of people with colorful personalities with their own perks and annoyances. You might like or hate some but pretty much are all lovable characters. There is reasonable amounts of character development & maturing but unfortunately they don't get enough limelight in the novel. Tertiary characters as expected don't have much lore behind them as they're there to progress the story. LN does shed some light on the motivations of the antagonists as well as their backstory but I'm not far enough into the novel to land a judgement on that.

Romance: Really not much of it in this LN. Its hinted and scatter here and there, love interest for the MC and probably the side characters but ultimately romance is not the focus of this LN. MC kinda has a harem but as mentioned earlier he is quite dense and too engrossed in mecha, so there is hardly any progress.

Fights/Action: Its needless to say its again the same old shounen showdown battles. MC is OP and winning the battle but surprise!!! A new challenger appears and puts the MC in a precarious position. He is outmatched and gradually being pressured but a sudden turn of events presented a crucial window of opportunity to attack and deal the fatal blow. MC wins and the world is saved, at same time MC's companions also win their respective battles and now they have another tale to add to their legend. Its more or less the same concept for every battle. Theres no creativity, ingenius tactics or manoeuvres in the battle sequences, just pure hot pumping action.

Writing: Good pacing and story progression. Plot transition and flow of events feels natural but is too predictable (well, it is shounen after all). So far I'm not feeling the grand scheme of things vibes or the underlying plots, not much foreshadowing to keep readers engaged. It is interesting but its as shounen as it gets; pretty light plot with no controversial writing, very simplistic chain of events and narrow context. Overall the story lacks depth and maturity. You probably won't find epic storytelling honestly. What I do like though is how the novel goes into technical details about the magic and technology, it is not as complicated as Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei but comfortable enough to keep it captivating.

Knights & Magic is a fairly decent read but don't expect too much from it. I'd recommend you give at least 2 volumes a try before making your judgement. If you're into mecha, shounen, high fantasy & technology hybrid or just looking for a light read to pass the time then this LN might what be you're looking for. <<less

Good series on the most part, and has descriptive action that will lure you in, but the cons are that:
1) The series takes quite the long time describing mechs more than anything. You'll be reading about mechs4dayz.
2) MC will 100% win due to plot armor. No matter how grave the situation, he will win (ex: Vol. 1 fight. Read it 2 C how it goes, since there's a volume 5 and hes still featured in it.)
3) MC will not develop that much, which could be a... more>> preference to quite a few people, and he sticks to his ideals, but its quite the problem when he does nothing and plans nothing else other than improving his mechs all day and talks about mechs all day. They describe mech suits like there's no tomorrow. In the end though, it depends on whether you like reading on mechs and the descriptions do help when they talk about the perks of each bot.
4) Dont even bother about romance, I forgot if there was any, but I just remember a bunch of mech tests and mech creation.
5) Story has a couple of gaps for the explanation about the MC. They just prop him up on a high horse of nobility and knowledge, yet no one suspects a thing.
Spoiler

Even the king whom he personally visits doesn't give 2 shts about him being so knowledgeable about mechs and gives him a free pass cause king's friend tells him its OK

[collapse]

Overall, if you completely disliked any of the points above, then don't bother complaining about the series as it was made to depict mechs (Knights) and his OP mana/spellcasting (Magic). If you wanted melee combat medieval knights, you're looking in the wrong corner and went to the sci-fi area. For the rest, determine if you like the series by reading a few chapters after the first arc if you disliked/liked the first arc since the style completely changes since many complex changes take place.

4/5. Took one star off since I didn't like the excessive talking on mech suits only. <<less

The best novel about giant robots. The slight reincarnation is almost un-important since the only advantage the MC has is his programming skill. Also for once, the reincarnated one doesn't keep talking about "in my old world...".

Sadly, starting from the chapter 28 volume 3, the story has changed of translators and the new one seems to never edit his translations making for one very annoying read. The verbs are all wrong, the sentence make almost no sense, the name are suddenly strange (ex: Dell Van Cool), the translator doesn't seems... more>> to really understand his own translation,...

A complete opposite from the first part which is a enjoyable as it is well translated.

This is the first time a translation make me unable to keep following a novel, truly disappointing.

To finish with a clear advise, READ IT. It's new, original, fun and slightly "real" enough to keep wondering what's gonna happen. Just stop before v3c29. ;-) <<less

Starts out fun but turns weird then gets repetitive. Not a bad story but longer than it needs to be. The MC is a programmer and takes queues from his past life when making mechs. He has a great imagination but isn’t as smart as the is originally made out to be. Later a war starts and everything he does his enemies do better besides his personal mech but later that gets matched. Then the other part of the story is his selfish “love” for mechs is only making it... more>> easier for the people of this world to kill each other.

If if you look at this from a child’s perspective fighting is fun but the reality is that most of the worlds problems are created or enhance by the MC. I kept up a hope something would change but has not yet. I find myself skipping whole chapters at a time because you can predict the outcome 99% of the time after the first few paragraphs.

Repetitive is the best way of describing the story after a while. Japanese light novel authors rarely have a planned out story so the almost always feel like they drag on and on. This is no exception in my opinion. <<less

It's good, but no harem. I kinda hoping that princess or later a queen would fall to the MC but no, she fall to his friend instead that's kinda meh for me tho. (Just my personal taste, if you like mecha with some magic, you probably will like this one.)

Reincarnation story with a Mecha element. It’s quite refreshing. If you ask me if this series is good or bad then I will say it’s good. I really don’t have much to say about this series it’s good, it’s fun. You should read it.

However, there’s just ine problem that just not do well with me. MC main goal is to build his own robot that is better than any one. Despite, it seem like a big goal. MC just do it very quick. It’s just to fast for me so... more>> I don’t really have anything to expect from this story. You will just feel like it kind of drag on. <<less
