On one spring evening when I was eight years old, I, Erica, Duke of Aurelia’s daughter, realized something.

Huh, I have reincarnated into a fantasy world, haven’t I?

Moreover, it was the romance-fantasy girl game that had the reputation of being bloody, 『Liber Monstrorum ~Phantom Beasts and the Winter Princess~』

The face reflected in the mirror was that of the villainess character of that game.

After repeatedly harassing many characters, including the heroine, she would die without exception, signaling the beginning of an event called the bizarre incident. She was a villain who deserved to get the consequences!

—I absolutely don’t want a destiny like that, though?

No, since I have remembered the memory of my previous life, I will make sure that kind of thing does not happen.

In my previous life, I was harassed immensely by an irrationally angry yandere man who thought I was in love with him.

My cause of death, too, was from being stabbed by another yandere man who I only had talked with a few times…

Now that I have become the haughty villainess Erica, I shouldn’t encounter more misunderstandings like with the previous life’s yandere men anymore, right…?

In that case, it will be fine as long as I deal with the death flags that I may have raised myself.

All right! First of all, before the bizarre incident begins at the Magic Academy, I will strike down the death flags accordingly!!

—Or so I thought, but it seems that I am about to die.

Eeh, how did this happen—!?

Well, judging from all the reviews it seems I don't have anything new to say about this novel.

I was interested in the premise of this one and yes I found it well worth my time, considering I tend to avoid otome genre like a plague. This novel is very well written because much thought, research and effort was put into this piece of work instead of just some casual writing, it has the aspect that easily catches your interest and it's difficult not to follow it to the end once... more>> you get hooked up.

The qualities of this novel you can see from other people's review. I'd only like to say for new readers who are considering whether or not to give it a try, I'd say try it but don't judge it just after reading the 1st arc, the first arc is indeed unique and excellent but compared to the rest of this novel, it is the weakest. Although the 1st and 2nd arc deals with adventure and direct boss battles, the 3rd arc takes a more serious yet completely different approach so judging it from the 1st and 2nd arc would be a mistake, I'd say at the very least try until the 3rd arc of this story, if you don't like it even then in that case no need to follow it. This novel's plot gets more and more intense each arc. I'm looking forward to the 4th arc which is currently being released. All I'd like to say this novel would be well worth your time and whether or not you will like it, you will surely find out after you finish until the 3rd arc. <<less

Well, the world building by this novel is ok and acceptable. However, the fact that the author make the Female lead give away her secret to so many people diminish the only reason why reincarnated novel is good in the first place. Reincarnated novels are good because it is a secret that give the MC mysterious atmosphere. It's was the biggest secret that the reincarnated character hold that make him/her special. Carelessly give away that secret turn the character away from mysterious type into a generic MC type that every... more>> slice of life novel already did to the death and they did it 100 times better.

If you are gonna make your character give away the biggest secret, do it in a grand event where everything is coming down or when the secret no longer matter. <<less

I was waay too curious so I went ahead and read the raws....I am amazed! This novel is amazingly well written! The 1st 2 arcs do splendid work in misleading people and then things start to be put in place once the academy arc starts. It gets darker and darker, the plot gets extremely intriguing and scary and dark compared to the 1st few arcs which have quite a bit of light hearted moments alongside actions and foreshadowings. I can't wait to see how this will end. I forgot that... more>> I was reading a web novel as I got immersed into this story. Whatever anyone may say this novel definitely doesn't lack in terms of plot, characters and character developments as well as world building and thrilling mysteries. I am so much in love with the characters, Erica the protagonist in particular, I feel painful thinking her journey will end someday. Anyways, looking forward to the translations coming out and I love author sama for such a wonderful story and translator sama for picking it up and regularly releasing it!!!

Oh yeah, the Harry Potter vibe is strong in this one so if you like Harry Potter you will definitely like this one as well! <<less

This is a very good story. However, the beginning until like chapter 50 can be rough at times, but the ending of arc 1 and beginning of arc 2 does introduce one of my favorite characters. And there are some other high moments interspersed among the really low boring chapters.

There are really two boring slumps that almost caused me to drop the story. After chapter 50, and especially once she joins the academy at age 14 later on (90s if I remember correctly) things really do pick up. Even after... more>> 50 though, the story becomes much more consistently interesting. And boy does it get really good!

One last important thing I wanted to touch on: don't go into this story expecting a wild romance. Expect something like Avatar the Last Airbender. There are chapters that definitely touch on it and it is explored somewhat, but it really isn't a priority for Erica at the moment.

One last, last important thing: she does get much stronger later on. If it bugs you that she is constantly being saved in the first arcs... her nickname at school is [Abyss Killer] :) <<less

MC is not overpowered to begin with and later in the series only rises to similar levels to the other primary characters. The struggle is real - "good" characters can do bad things for good reasons and the MC is constantly put into situations where victory is uncertain. No clear RPG elements (stats, item boxes, etc.) to be found here, but there are several mentions of things that seem to come from Dungeons and Dragons style tabletop games. Common monsters are different than expected and have different abilities from their... more>> mainstream counterparts. The background setting is dark, but the characters stay light-hearted and optimistic generally. In later chapters this reminds me of what Harry Potter could have been if the adult characters weren't s*upid. <<less

Don't expect reverse-harem and romance in this novel.

Because you will feel disappoint like me at the first arc. LoL

Please expect conspiray and mystery part about this novel.

... more>> You see I come here becuase of Villainess Noble Girl tag so I expect the romance part very much.

But the first arc is full of action, advanture and damsel in distress. Not that much romance at all.

It only have some hint at the later in the first arc.

But after I continue in the seconde arc, I finally understood this novel isn't a romance novel!!

It is mystery novel! Every mystery and action of character in both story of her past life and her current life have a clue.

If you find fun in unravel the truth behind the mystery, you will find this novel is fun. Every enemy and friend have their past and reason. And the author give enough clue to figure it out before the author reveal everything to you the reader.

The first arc is like that. It the arc about giving a clue to the conspiracy. Let's read it like the event before the mu*der scene and detective thing. LoL

And if you read to the third arc, it will reveal that the MC is super OP. In the first and second arc, she still don't know how to use her talent yet. So if you like OP MC, please preseverse to the third arc~~

Let's me tell you she is OP as much as the other OP friends of her. <<less

I like how each arc tells a different story rather than a return to a status-quo. The MC travels a lot and that leads to a lot of world building. There are surprisingly a lot going on in the background being done by the side characters in solving the mystery and the growth of the characters. The MC is brutal and devious to the point that she pulls off the image of a confident villainess while also being full of empathy.

Yip! This novel is rare. I caught up to the latest release in 3 days. The story was so engaging that I couldn't help it. I opened an account just so I could rate it.

The world building is unparalleled, the presentation is neat and it has a different type of charm overall. The culture of the world is very diverse and charming.

The characters are so finely developed and dynamic that even the side characters are really interesting and loveable, all of the characters feel really alive.

I like the mc's ironically... more>> funny internal monologues as well. She gives of the feeling of someone with a slightly twisted sense of humor, I also like her powers. She is extremely powerful in her own unique field, well her friends are just equally powerful if not more than her in their fields so it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb or anything.

Finally, the plot!! The mystery and thriller elements are superb!! The first 2 arcs are engaging and full of actions but things start to get serious from the 3rd arc and the novel's dark aspects start to come into view. I'm totally looking forward to seeing what else this novel has in store.

And my salute to the author for her extensive research and thoughts put into developing this one. <<less

One of the best novels I've ever read.

The story and plot is well written and well planned by the author. There is sufficient build-up every arc and the a very satisfying climax and conclusion. Each arc is connected in an over-arching story, with numerous clues to keep up the thrill of the mystery.

As for the characters, so far they are consistent in their characterization (in the most part) and the main characters are sufficiently 3-dimensional that they avoid the usual 2d characterization of the capture targets unlike in most otome... more>> game reincarnation stories.

As of now, the magic school arc is starting. If you like Harry Potter books, you'll definitely like this one. There are also references to alchemical myths, especially the kabal and legends from the middle ages in Europe. I laud the author and translator on the painstaking research on these obscure legends and mythologies to make the world-building very substantive and realistic. <<less

It's a good novel. I like the world building surrounding it and our main character isn't someone overpowered either. Each of the characters have their own personality and don't feel dry. Not that much romance but boy is there a lot of plot twists

Update 12/20/2019:

I love this novel

... more>> Each arc in the story gives you new characters, new world building, and other questions that pop up in your head when you start thinking of the potential things that could happen from the information given

Our lovely Erica is still the same as usual. Trying to avoid her death flags with the help of her allies

The romance as before is still there (mostly from our male leads)

Characters in each arc is fleshed out or at the very least you can see a glimpse of their personality even with little interaction. All in All

10/10

Excellent!

This is, in my opinion, one of the top three novels in this genre. There is balance between the setting, plot and character development, and the characterisation of individuals is superb - none of them feel dry or cardboard cutouts.

The translator also does very good work. The translation reads nicely, and there are footnotes that explain certain terms and names (since the author themself draws from western folklore), as well as clarifications if certain chapters have setting explanations - for ease in comprehension.

All in all - 5 stars.

when I found this novel, one thing that attracts me the most is the cover.

It seems like "magic" + "dark", which is rare for a "shoujo" to have a light novel cover that way. From there, I read the tags and summary, got interested (plus point to the "isekai" genre), and decided to read the first few chapters.

after reading some, I concluded that this is one of the best shoujo light novel that I've ever read. The action and mystery make it really unique, the adventure in every arc is... more>> amazing too. And moreover, every arc have a backstory in the future of it's own (which I found it fun because the way Erica die is not sickness, exiled from the country, etc normal villainess flags—)

Spoiler

rather, the cause are real fantasy. Like, being eaten with an angel, being killed by Ann who is possessed by an evil spirit uwuwu.

overall, the characters are great, and I hope that this won't be a harem (currently there're two boys, Klaus and Auguste).

[collapse]

right now I'm in the start of arc 3, but I enjoyed the previous arcs and feel like this one will be enjoyable too.

the "world" in this light novel is very detailed, which is rare for a light novel to be described this detailed (it's not bad but I'm quite lost sometimes since there're so many names).

Spoiler

and Erica is one of my favorite type of character, always smiling with a thin smile which seems like "don't come near to me".

I ship klaus with her~

also, one thing that I hope didn't happen in the future is Erica collecting the local beasts. I hope it won't happen.

I love the development of the story and how Erika comes to face life threatening situations where were friends would help her! I also love how she wouldn't be strayed by the male characters into falling in love with them. I am excited to see more future development and what will happen in 6 years time considering how she has changed her fate for 2 of the characters so far! It is nicer by the fact that she isn't swayed by the mental powers of others. I don't know if... more>> she is really dense but that characteristic of hers makes her loveable! <<less

Oh wow oh wow oh wow. Such a pleasure to read, high quality translation, thrilling plot line and with just the right amount of romance and comedy, and at this point it isn't the highlight of the novel. The characters are developing incredibly well and it's such a pleasantly different take on the reborn-as-the-villainess trope, for instance there's a lot of action and adventure allowing it to be fully immersed in the fantasy world and only serves to enhance the reader's experience.

Absolutely, fully recommend. You won't get bored reading this... more>> and it deserves a binge reading session. The MC is an active participant in the plot and quite admirable, the 'love interests' are unique and are undergoing in depth development through the story arcs which is such a refreshing change, even though most of the interactions are from a singular viewpoint you don't miss out on their development at all. The pops of other viewpoints are appreciated though and really exposes the other characters. <<less

Its great action packed mystery of a villainous-reborn-in-otome-game setting. With wonderful translation.

Like, seriously. The first arc was practically Action/Mystery/Suspense. With some fluff padded at the start and end of the arc.
The second arc had worldbuilding galore and then buckets of suspense.

What I particularly enjoyed was how the protagonist was ridiculously outmatched by the arc boss. Like seriously, it felt that a Deus ex Machina was needed to get out alive but the solution was set up chapters ago.

For people who like the Otome setting in small doses, and Fantasy... more>> Action Mysteries. <<less

I'm really baffled and confused by this title. For such a high rating the beginning is weak and a bit insulting to say the truth. I'm on chapter 9 and the MC is the blankest piece of isekai paper I have ever seen. Not to mention her previous life sounds - at least the way she describes it - so incredibly edgy I cannot take it seriously.

Since this is at the very beginning I don't think it can really be considered a spoiler.

For someone who is suppose to be "striking... more>> down" death flags, it seems to be the exact opposite when it comes to the very first instance. She has multiple opportunities to dodge the first flag with minimum effort but somehow manages to court it like she wants to dance with the grim ripper. The signs of danger are as subtle as a warship siren continuously blaring warning, calling the crew to battle-stations.

Most of the time I was like "Why?" "No." "Wait." "Don't." <<less

Beautifully translated, great plot, world-building and characters. This is a hidden gem! Will be writing a more in-depth review when I have completed reading the novel, however, for those of you who loves fantasy with a dash of strong heroine and great male leads — this is the one! This is not a reverse-harem story, but a story about magic, friendship, love, and growth.

I read the raws and am currently following the translations. Well, normally you wouldn't expect a guy to be reading an otome game based reincarnated villainess novel I suppose. I just happened to come across it randomly. I am not picky about male or female protagonists and what I was looking for was some fantasy novel with good plot. And then I found this. Firstly, I will give a summary of each arcs just enough so new readers will understand the flow. This will be a long review though. I... more>> am writing inside the spoiler tag but I won't write much in depth details or any spoilery info as that would ruin the story, just the general gist of things.

Spoiler

The first arc, introduces the world to the readers in an interesting manner, shows the beginning of the mc's quest in destroying the 'death flags'. These are NOT death flags in some game but real life tragedies foreshadowed by someone which will be explained later. You can't avoid them by just being 'not villainessish' or nice. She uses the information she had from the game and tries to destroy her first fate of destruction associated with the first capture target and his sister. But no matter how she tried to avoid it, by some twist of fate things started to go exactly as it was supposed to be in the game. Near the very end she realized that what she initially thought as a death flag wasn't the true reason and no matter what she did, she would still die because the perpetrator had a grudge against her ancestors. This arc is short and deals with a boss battle.

[collapse]

Spoiler

Second arc, the same as first arc, she uses all the info she had from the game and tries to deal with the second death flag associated with the second target. This time she has the perpetrator from the first arc as her ally as she befriended him. She is comparatively well prepared this time and befriends the capture target in advance in order to follow through with her strategy to avoid the flag.... but things once more starts to head towards the bad direction despite what she did. Once more she has to tackle the perpetrator with her life on the line. In fact all her allies who tried to help her were down cold so she was on her own. But somehow she made it through, the details will be too long so I am skipping that here. Near the end of the arc, some conspiracies are revealed and a foreshadow of what is coming is given. I admit I felt somewhat creeped out, it was written very well. It subtly hinted that the protagonist Erica's 'death flags' aren't what they appear to be and not only endangers her but also those around her. This arc also shows that Erica and her group aren't the only people going around solving problems of the world but there are separate groups working and investigating as well, namely her older brother and his generation.

[collapse]

Spoiler

Third arc, by now Erica has gathered a few capable allies and has already figured that these 'death flags' are abnormal and there is something suspicious going on. She becomes more cautious and more prepared. She also understood that she won't be able to handle everything on her own so she and her 2 partners separately investigate the 3rd flag related to the 3rd target. By the way, in her last life she only got to play the game halfway to the 3rd arc, so her in-game knowledge is nearly hitting it's limit, so with that she managed to deal with the conspiracies by working with the people related to this case. That being said, her actions in the previous arcs caused a butterfly effect and many new possibilities opened up in this route. This arc contains more technical stuff and human conspiracies and there is no boss battle, but the dark aspect and graveness of the situation is portrayed stronger than the previous two arcs. Erica learns of her abilities and is finally able to use her powers to its maximum potential. There is a bit of action near the end to display her abilities. At the end of this arc, the true cause of the death flags of previous two arcs are revealed, not by the Erica, but by her brother. We as readers, get to know it. The conspiracy of the mastermind is foreshadowed and we get to see that every people have bits and pieces of the puzzles, just they haven't come together yet. Having done everything she could do in advance with her limited knowledge, Erica finally prepares for the future when the incidents are actually supposed to take place. This is the end of the 1st half of the novel. We are given a lot f shady information by many different parties near the end.

[collapse]

Spoiler

4th arc, the time when the game starts has arrived. Erica has entered the academy and is constantly on watch for any potential death flags. While secretly investigating many mysterious occurrences, she comes across unexpected mysteries and past tragedies. Things get complicated and grim and many questions arise. Who made the game in her world? What happened to her mother? What of her mother's friends who attended the academy in the past? We will get many revelations in this arc yet many more mysteries. Also, the game's heroine and her circumstances, her interactions with Erica and many other things. There will be a boss battle but different from the 1st 2 arcs. Some grim state of affairs will be revealed near the end.

[collapse]

Spoiler

5th arc is fast paced, full of suspense as well as action packed although there is no boss battle, it is leading this novel towards its final arc so naturally it's full of many big revelations as well as many more hints about unanswered questions. The incomplete part of the 3rd flag will be wrapped up in this arc by Erica and her allies. By this time, the light-hearted moments from the 1st half of the novel are scarce and things get deadly serious. Near the end, from different povs, some circumstances of the past generations are revealed. The arc ends in a cliff.

[collapse]

The final arc hasn't been released yet so that's it for now. There are many characters all of them are complex and intriguing, and all of them are involved with something or the other, so you will end up missing them, even the side characters. I loved the story so far, and I liked the progression of the arcs like a curve ball. What you would expect is not something that will happen and what will happen is something else entirely. I am now waiting with bated breath for the translations to catch up. <<less
