Deep in the Act

To save Gao Zhun from the shackles of his invisible illness, Fang Chi overcomes obstacle after obstacle, inching closer and closer to his heart. But…

Everything you have done so far amounts to nothing more than a technique? What about…

Your feelings?

—–

Can the course of human feelings ever be truly understood?

In an attempt to diversify his career, Zhang Zhun agrees to co-star with award-winning actor, Chen Hsin.

Their first task, by the director’s orders:
15 days of cohabitation in a couple’s room.15 days of watching raunchy movies in the same bed, in preparation for the filming of their first scene together.

Yet, things begin to go wrong as they get into bed for the camera.
No one on the set is safe from the passion of their performance.
No one is exempt from the heat of their desire.

Even the director cannot help but fume: Have I ever asked them to take things this far?

But… isn’t it our job to go deeper into the act?

—–

You are my secret sunshine.

Chen Hsin risks everything in his possession as Zhang Zhun walks down the path of no return.

How should they define the bond between them?

Perhaps it should not be known as love, for love is too heavy and terrifying a word for them.

And yet…

There will never be another film like this! Your performance and the feelings you conveyed will never be surpassed! This is a masterpiece that belongs only to the two of you!

When their eyes meet – before the camera, according to the script – Zhang Zhun feels the tips of his fingers go numb.

Who is he?
Has he become Gao Zhun? Or is he still Zhang Zhun?

Who is this before him?
Is it Fang Chi? Or is it Chen Hsin?

—–

When the filming comes to an end, the characters will recover, the actors’ passion will fade, and they will forget each other eventually as they return to their individual paths.

In the end, how should they make sense of it all?

Have they truly been hopelessly and deliriously in love?
Or have they simply lost themselves too deeply in the act?

Alarming. The messages, just like hy-d-ra mentioned blare sirens.

The writing is unmistakably good. This novel has a penchant for cheating themes and NON CON. It flabbergasted me, the very chapter I stopped on was horrific with attempted r*pe and successful physical assault.

All of this is painted in a good light, and romanticized as the tribulations of any “gay” relationship. THIS IS NOT IT! From a queer person myself. It’s very disgusting when the characters have girlfriends but don’t make their associations clear either as of being gay is the worst... more>> thing on earth! <<less

Fair warning, the script from the movie is too dark—as totally opposed to what's happening in reality in the novel. It's also a bit psychological. The characters are all messed up. It depicts the complexities of human relationships and the human mind. People acts on their basic instincts—selfishness, desires, it's all what makes them flawed and human. It's a good read—at least for me—it kept me stressed and interested.

If you like these kind of things, good for you.

I just want to say, the title and sypnosis failed to live up... more>> to the expectations. "Deep in the Act" was the title of the film itself in the novel, but it was also supposed to mean the the MC and ML would be too immersed in their roles to the point that they cannot distinguish reality from acting, right???

So here's the thing.

I cannot see where the actors started confusing themselves from the character they're acting out. When did the line from reality and the script starts to blur??At most, the ML would just use lines from the story in order to get close or talk to the MC—then the MC would realized he's acting out his role, so he'll act along. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THEY ARE JUST PRACTICING THEIR LINES???

There's no sign of being 'unable to extricate' themselves from the act at all.

If you want to know what I'm talking about, check out the novel 'The Stars Around the Sun'. I think the way it was written pinpointed what it really meant to be too deep in the act. You can sense the dread from the characters when they started doubting whether their feelings was their own.

Also, this is like TWO SEPARATE STORIES in one novel. The half belongs to what happens in real life, the other half belongs to the entire script they're acting out. The script almost took more than half of the story, there was mystery and drama, the characters' behavior are worth pondering over, yet I don't see how it was necessary to the main story. I came to the point where I got bored of Fang Chi and Gao Zhu's (script character) scenes. It dragged on for too long. I mean, what's the point? The s*xual attraction between the MC and ML are already strong from the start since they cohabited for 15 days. THERE'S NO NEED FOR THE FOUNDATION OF FANG CHI AND GAO ZHUN'S LOVE TO STIMULATE THEM FURTHER. I just want to focus on what's happening on reality.

This is just like Screen Partner, with, perhaps a bit of substance, coz instead of filming a gay p*rn—it evolved to a gay film with MAJOR PLOT TWIST. Plus the NSFWs.

That's it. I must say it's still worth recommending though. I enjoyed this so much when I was reading it (I wrote this review a month later, where I'm awash of attachments from the story).

The writing style is good. 3/5. Give it a chance. Enjoy! <<less

a legend reading. S*xual tension continues from the first episode to the last scene. This s*xual tension often disappears after couples admit that they are in love with each other in the readings. The tension between the couples in this reading is very delicious.

Amazing. I couldn't stop reading once I started. The main couple has so much chemistry that you can feel their emotions. The chapters are very well paced and they never get boring.

This story made me feel many things and that is something that I appreciate a lot.

The best part for me was that the main couple developed such a deep connection that it makes you think that they would find it imposible to love someone else... I'm a very romantic woman so that's my favorite type of couple...

The only thing... more>> that I didn't love (and this is very subjective) is
Spoiler

the final plot twist, when we discover that they are characters from a book, which I didn't like because I love them so much more than the 'real couple'.

Because of that I just pretend those chapters never happened. <<less

Sadly, I only got to read until chapter 52 part 1 because I can't access the next chapters anymore. I also tried the mtl ver but so far after surfing the net, I can't find any.

Although, I didn't get to finish reading this. This is a damn good novel. I love the psychological aspects and how it is written compared to some of the novels I read from this site. There is some dubious undertones in this novel that really made me uncomfortable but it did not stop me from... more>> loving how complicated each characters are. Not just the characters in a real life setting but also the characters from the film.

I'll be lurking in this review section every now then. Hoping that people would maybe share a link for the chapters or even just the mtl ver of this novel because I really want to finish this 😭 <<less

Thank you.

I would prefer if there is not a negative review of this novel. Because it would not just to the author.

The author wrote two stories at the same time, complementing each other. There is actually have a certain depth in the story.

... more>> Right now I don't know the ending so it's hard for me to say sure about the relationship result of the CP.

After completing more than half of the story I am very curious about the end of the film that takes place in the story. I would not say the film story is better than the novel itself because it has complemented the whole story.

I am looking forward to what's coming next.

Thanks, author for the hard work and thanks to the translators for their hard work. <<less

I truly cried for Gao Zhun. Specially when he was r*ped by Fang Chi during such miserable condition. All Gao wanted was love and care from the man he loved but the man on whom Gao truly depended with all his breath and soul turned out to be another rapist.

Fang Chi crossed his professional ethics line and humiliated Gao to the extreme. I feel its Fang Chi who is mentally disturbed and psychopath.

I was confused in start and referred to character description again and again. Hot steamy scenes, psychological warfare,... more>> exploitation of human emotions kept me hooked to the seat till I reached chapter 50 and then I realized no more chapters.

characters description is not detailed but still more than enough. One need to keep track of the events to understand the story flow.

filming a gay story and filming a Gay p*rn has clear distinction but the way Zhang Zhun was forced to act total nude seemed as if they are shooting gay p*rn. I felt Zhang Zhun credibility was shackled. It shouldn't b like that.

Where can I read full novel? Please anyone share link of remaining chapters. SOS <<less

I want to say that this is the best thing that I have read lately, It is not funny and soft, but this novel made my heartache, I could not sleep all night. It’s not because it’s hot (and it’s hot and very hot), it’s because it’s amazing and strong.

I love the plot about filming and I hate the script of the movie itself, it's a deep pain, I just hate Fang Chi. And yet I love Chen Hsin who plays him

Now I am finishing reading MTL because the translation... more>> has been abandoned, unfortunately. And the end of this romance is amazing, reality will turn upside down

This is amazing. It's about love. Passionate and sick, real

I used to dream of writing a novel bl

This is one of the most interesting story here in NU that I have read as of this moment. It is true indeed that the summary writtem in NU is somehow kinda confusing because it was not mention how the two stories or the characters are interconnected that is why I was kinda doubtful in reading this but it is a very good decision of mine to read the reviews which made me read this story because of the warnings told by the readers of this story. If I didn't... more>> read the reviews, I think all I can say to my future self is 'YOU JUST LOST ONE-HALF OF YOUR LIFE AS A READER!!! BAKA!!' This novel is just simply awesome. The characters, the storyline. I love the way the story shifts from the movie to the real life events of the actors. Sometimes, I say to myself that I want to read only the story of the actors but it made me doubt again cause the story of the movie is interesting also. This is one of the reason why I like this story because of the way it was written. Everything is wonderful. Just wonderful. To the translator, it was well translated. Very detailed especially on the notes written after the chapter. The smutts are written in a very vivid way. I have learned a lot of terms in this story. For me everything is exact in this story. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! <<less

I'm not sure how to rate this because I feel like it's almost 2 separate books and one of them suffers.

The movie script story of GZ and FC is more complex and the tension between them is out of this world. Both individual characters and the relationship between them is fully drawn. At times it is uncomfortable to read, but like a trainwreck you can't stop watching.

By comparison, the "real life" story between the actors MC/ML just feels like pure smut at this point. There's nothing but s*xual attraction between... more>> them. Nothing wrong with that but when you put it side by side with another story thats better developed, and between fake characters at that, well they come off like supporting characters or cannon fodder in their own story! I don't even know them as individual characters. Not only is their relationship not developed, but the characters aren't either. No personality to pinpoint for either one beyond stereotype.

I get what the author is trying to do with the 2 stories being parallels of one another and the actors really getting affected by their roles but execution is not quite there. <<less

The novel is captivating, the story unfolds slowly and you don’t even realise how much you’ve invested in the protagonists since the beginning, especially when regarding to the movie.

I recommend the read, though I can’t give 5 stars because the smut scenes are too many (wow never thought I’d complain about this ever) and there’s even no actual s*x yet! The scenes are actually well written and most are plot relevant but they get somehow repetitive towards the later chapters and steal time from the story progression.

Warning:

Spoiler

there’s r*pe in the movie, and the ML (actor) did some forceful stuff too while the MC was asleep.

The ML (from the movie) also abuses very badly of his power on the MC, manipulates him even cruelly sometimes. He knows that his professional conduct as a therapist is basically non-existential when he’s with MC but he can’t control himself. (The MC doesn’t care about this though, he needs ML as fish need water, he can’t live without him.)

This is one of the main theme of the movie and really adds a level of depth to the story, without it the movie wouldn’t be as beautiful. But I know someone may be very triggered so I added a warning.

Wow, this story is really good. One of the best I’ve read in a while. The characters feel very real and the anguish and tension between the 2 main characters is very intense. Their mental struggles were real and even their most irrational reactions make sense because this not perfect people. Their love is messy and almost overwhelming in the best of ways. I actually had to pause during my binge read multiple times to have an internal screaming session because the tension is that real. The plot was nicely... more>> paced and very dramatic and the choice to have the alternating story line between the movie they were filming and them filming it gives an added amount of depth to the story.

Although they touch on a difficult topic like r*pe it is carried out in a profession manner and its only in the movie plot. There are also warning before each chapter. I don’t reccomend it to people who want a casual read because this is a story that will have you reason until 3am to see what happens. This definitely deserves to have a higher rating. <<less

It's a about two actors acting out a gay film. Both actors are straight and have girlfriends But during the filming, their acting and the feelings of the characters are starting to cross. And it's a psychological novel so it delves into their subconscious and explains the complexity of their feelings in vivid detail.

I'm only in Chapter 12 so far but.. Damn. I just. It's pretty intense. Even the NSFW scenes also hold a lot desire, passion but also frustration, and anguish in both parallels. The build up is written... more>> beautifully. Seeing the characters get unhinged, tug of war between rationality and giving into their base desires. I thought weaving in the movie's plot and the acting was very well done and thought out. I am fascinated and also, at the same time, afraid to get too emotionally invested almost as the actors are. Haha.

I don't see a tragedy tag! So.. I'm seriously hoping my heart's not gonna give out and I end up bleeding to death if ever it does end up being one. <<less

This story I've read this 1 year ago and impatiently tolerated the MTL. Lol!

There are two main couples, the actors and the movie couple. It seems that author wrote two novels in one. Haha.

The actor couple was fire...... more>>
Spoiler

Gao Zhun (Shou) and Chen Hsin (Gong)

Started getting intimate (to work on their chemistry) the moment they meet/entered the filming and boy, they were both straight but left bent.... crazy in love with one another.

They both have girlfriends in the start but when the both of them (lost control over professional rationality) developed into something more, they decisively called it quits. I love the fact that both of them are struggling emotionally and because they couldn't take the a few burns from people that matters, they broke up after the filming (the shou said that they are just deep in the act while gong broke up with him the moment he Gao Zhun accidentally said he didn't love him).

Gao Zhun was suffering from a lot of complicated emotions but wanted Chen Hsin to coax him back but Chen walked away.

After a year and the movie started showing in theaters, he chased the gong without a care in the world... he was the one who initiated when he over heared Chen Hsin really loved him so they both ended up together in another country and planned their life the way they wanted.

[collapse]

The movie characters has a lot more ups and downs

Spoiler

Fang Chi (Gong) and Zhao Zhun (Shou)

Rap* is a horrific thing. But for these two, it was the first page of their story. The trauma (carried by Zhao Zhun) became their mountain (he needs to overcome with Psychologist Fang Chi). The aftermath kinda overwhelmed each other (Fang Chi got carried away and his code of ethics cracked) which scared the professional (He left Zhao Zhun), the other broke and got worst (Gao Zhun got entangled with his r*pist who also has his own story, and 6 other men).

This couple was very flawed and I kinda want to kill the gong for what he did but he came back. He was infuriated and guilty for what Zhao Zhun had become (a mild s*x addict) but jealousy to those men and hate towards himself was the most dominant feeling he felt knowing that other men rolled in the sheets with Zhao Zhun because he s*upidly left him like a coward.

In the end, Fang Chi becomes Zhao Zhun's only man. I read that they are planning to get married but before that, they will meet the actor couple.

Turns out, the movie was based on a book a girl wrote. This girl was someone is close to Fang Chi so he opened up to her and she was inspired by their story.

In the extras, it was funny that Fang Chi was curious of Gao Zhun while Zhao Zhun is to Chen Hsin, the guy who acted as his lover.

[collapse]

This novel was an emotional and physical ride. Although not perfect, but the character's emotions and actions put a lot of details into the picture because it was written differently.

Yes, this story is tagged with r*pe, but the way it was explored is not as disturbing or was it taken seriously because the actors who are filming the movie behind the scenes depicted it, not the victim who was seriously hunted with the memory.

The story goes like one chapter is about Gao Zhun and Chen Hsin the actors, chapter that follows is about Zhao Zhun and Fang Chi the characters a girl wrote in a novel. Then it was repeated in that order untill the last chapter.

This novel is a good read. One that I will remember. <<less
