Ancient Godly Monarch

In the Province of the Nine Skies, far above the heavens, there exists Nine Galaxies of Astral Rivers made up of countless constellations interwoven together.

For Martial Cultivators, they could form an innate link with one of the constellations, awaken their Astral Soul, and transform into a Stellar Martial Cultivator.

Legend has it that, the strongest cultivators in the Province of the Nine Skies, were beings that could open an astral gate every time they advanced into a new realm. Their talent in cultivation was such that they could even establish innate links with constellations that existed in a layer higher than the Nine Layers of Heavens, eventually transforming into the heaven-defying and earth-shattering power known as the War God of the Nine Heavens.

Qin Wentian is the MC of this story. How could a guy, with a broken set of meridians, successfully cultivate? There were countless Stellar Martial Cultivators, as there were countless constellations in the vast starry skies. What he wanted to be, was the brightest constellation of all, shining dazzlingly in the vast starry skies.

Ancient Godly Monarch (AGM) is a pretty peculiar novel. I rate it 4/5 but with a caveat. This novel is enjoyable to read if you like watching an OP MC who literally can never die, slaps young masters, humiliates arrogant basatrds and just slaughters evil people left and right. In the sense of satisfying the target audience with a wish fulfillment, action packed, and mindless time wasting novel, then this is a good novel to read.

The "main" story arc of the MC trying to find out what happened to his... more>> parents is horribly executed and you can basically just ignore it.

The "side" stories all basically involve the MC's women somehow being fancied by every young master that he meets. Basically, they want to steal and f*ck his women, and kill him off at the same time. Thus conflict arises, the clans backing the young masters are brought into the conflict. The MC must escape or get backing from another equally strong clan. He goes to some secret realm to train. He then powers up to kill the evil young master, all his supporters, and finally destroys the enemy clan.

Rinse and repeat.

The twist to the "side" story is when the MC's women either get kidnapped for long periods of time and he has to rescue them or they are whisked off by a higher power to "train" and the MC has to power up to follow them.

Very very repetitive.

However, the writing quality within the repetitiveness is quite good. If you actually take any one of the story arcs by themselves, they are quite good (like 50-100 chaps). The romance between the MC and the few women he actually loves and marries is also good. The rare times that the author decides to actually be creative with the plot also adds some interesting parts to the story.

This novel is extremely average if you are very familiar with the xianxia genre but there are some good points that pulls it up to a 4/5. <<less

The novel isn't anything very unique, the main character is the average genius in these types of novels "Hey my comprehension is better than everyone, my strength can cross tiers, everyone finds a battle with me even though they don't know me, everyone who knows me doesn't care for my strength and still finds fights with me" "Oh hey, i've gotten a strong backing now, wait all of a sudden theres an enemy of similar strength/if not stronger to my backing finding a fault with me"

All in all, the novel... more>> isn't anything unique and pretty repetitive, if you have nothing else to read, its a good time consumer, if you're new to novels, its a good pick, but if I knew it would be like this I wouldn't read it, I'm just reading due to commitment now. <<less

So I’ve seen a lot of people bashing it cliche, but let’s be real almost all Xianxia or Xuanhuan are cliche but it gets either interesting or falls off as time go by. As someone who already caught to the current chapter I can say that this right here is one of my favorite. YES it slow but the world building is amazing. People complain about how the MC can’t beat certain characters that’s because he’s not even close to those characters. Can a baby beat an adolescent?... I’ll wait.... more>> The world building is amazing so is the romance as well as the characters and the author shows the worth of the MC he doesn’t gain power just by luck. Think about his bloodline and think about his family tell me if he’s power is not worth gaining. <<less

Above average. I won't make detailed comparisons with PMG, because frankly I have forgotten PMG's background and premise (who even remembers Lin Feng of PMG is actually a transmigrated MC from Earth?).

However, one thing that stands out in favour of AGM is the cast of enemy characters. Although they are still stereotypes (arrogant senior students, cliques, super sects lurking in the background, jealous rivals etc), they seem to be more fleshed out than the usual. Even the initial love interest and her family had more color and appearances than what... more>> you'd expect, still being mentioned here and there after nearly 150+ chapters. Most of the enemies are given proper motivations and actual 'screen time', some would be defeated in a satisfying manner and yet still remained alive as a shadowy threat for quite some time.

The writing is decent, the MC is not extremely hotheaded or le*d (still an inexperienced blushing kid as of ch150). The supporting cast is good, though you get the feeling that earlier characters are slowly regulated into the background (eg: the sister).

Ok, would read more. <<less

Around first 10 chapters I seem to feel completely thrown over world of unknown. The level of strength kind of confusing and frustrating for me. But after that the story started to be interesting and have a path of their own. I just hope it won't go into Harem genre in terms of romance since I hate it to happen to the MC. He's not some naive, funny and cold character so it doesn't suit him. I categorize him as wilful with soft character... now reading at Chapter 18!

Reviewed at 30 chapters, rated 3... for now.

Previous reviewers have talked about Ancient Godly Monarch’s similarity to Peerless Martial God... and it’s apparently true so far. AGM was actually written with smoother narrative than PMG, but both threaded similar plot and the MC too gave out similar vibe.

If you haven’t read PMG before, then it can be summarized as: emotionally-charged story in which relentless MC with dubious background had to fight against many enemies abusing their authority to destroy his family/clan/school. It’s cliche, but there are strategically placed hooks,... more>> genius MC, and plenty actions.

It could be a successful template if given the right narrative, pace, and character building. Furthermore, AGM’s world construct was pretty unique. However, the author has recorded quite bad track with PMG in failing to develop its characters and plunged the story into endless cycles of plot holes. Therefore, although it’s been a nice ride till chapter 30, I don’t dare to hold out much hope. <<less

Well, I read it till chapter 1801, I really found it interesting in the beginning as I thought the plot have a really good potential, kept reading it. Honestly, I really liked it till "PILL EMPEROR ARK" after that it got kinda the same, same situation same way nothing really changed slowly slowly I lost interest because it didn't really had anything new to offer.

Their are alot of things that I don't like for example-

• Pointlessly arrogant characters and boring fights.

• Ever same situation of MC being hunted my other... more>> clan/sect.

• No twists and turns just a plain story nothing impressive.

• too few interesting characters like hua taixu umm.... is their any one else ah.. yes yes little rascal was pretty interesting too.

•MC was basically stronger because of his better astral souls compared to rest. The fight got decent in between where MC started to struggle as the quality between his enemies astral souls and his was non existent but after that change in astral souls OMG my whole anticipation died for combat.

• Female leads were good had different personalities but they became less and less significant as the story progressed. They only knew how to cry and blush.

• There were many scenarios where MC mocks others for doing something and ends up doing himself and claim it to righteous like getting hunted by people with higher cultivation then himself but have no qualms when killing others with lower cultivation then himself.

• The destruction that should be told as the cultivation got higher was no where explained, you as well just imagine a fight between two mortals with added effects to show their attacks they used, where is the destruction man I read 1801 chapters and I no where read a planet being destroyed heck even a hole between a mountain might have not been blasted through.

Decent novel but wasn't able to keep the interest till the end it became more like a chore. Anyhow If you are new in these type of genre it may be your cup of tea. <<less

Yeah, too much nonsense. Filler everywhere, the author drags a single plot Point for more than it needs to.
Spoiler

MC goes to get his talent tested, only to be berated by the people he helped and to be oppressed by the envoy of one of the best academies. This wastes an entire chapter on irrelevant side characters who will quickly be forgotten.

[collapse]

Jade beauties, MC a*s-lickers, clan conflict; just generic. And this is only 20 something Ch in. I don't want to know how much worse it gets.

Incredibly generic, dissapointingly so. I was kind of hoping that with the unique cultivation method the novel would stand out from all the other cliche cultivation novels. However, this was not the case as this novel is bland, cliche, and boring.

First of all, the entire premise seems very superfluous. I could be wrong, and there could be another reason, however I don't want to waste my time reading through the novel just to check. In essence, the main character's clan (Qin clan) saved the Emperors life and was given a... more>> good position because of that. However, the clan was continuously declining, and because the Emperor had a illness and wanted to pass the throne on to someone else, he decided to eliminate the Qin clan because they still have some influence. I can't really understand this at all, it makes no sense. The Qin clan expressed full loyalty to the Emperor, so no matter how s*upid the Emperor is they should realize that, but nevertheless thats what happened.

Furthermore, I can't stand these low iq villains. It feels like a line of villains just waiting for the person in front of them to die before they challenge the main character. None of them realize "Wow, the main character has already killed many people who were stronger than him, and escaped punishment/retaliation super easily, I should make an enemy of him because this fact offends my pride! (Or some other bogus reason) " This cycle repeats, to the point where I'm at chapter 65 and I already feel like the plot is being copy and pasted.

Furthermore, moving on to the main character. The main character decides to kill people because they tried to kill him, regardless of the potential consequences, even though it would probably benefit him more to wait until he gets stronger to take revenge. However he never does that. I hate how the author always gives the main character a way out every time this happens, making it seem like the main character planned this out. I do like main characters who take revenge, but theres no emotional tension as neither side has actually offended the other for a half-decent reason, yet they still have a life or death duel. It's super annoying.

Overall, low quality manhua that just repeats the basic premise over and over again. <<less

It's quite a good story. The cultivation system is not great but it's enough to understand the power dynamics. There is a fair bit of characterisation of the characters, a lot of stories to go around. Tbh a lot seems like usual xinxia that I seem to forget but a fair bit of events became really unforgettable. Also, there is no real jumping off point, meaning that the story always seems to have a few story threads hanging loose for you to be interested in. There are also enough different... more>> layer of worlds, refering to the trope where you have to leave this small world behind and visit the real world outside. It feels gratifying also to see how each layers get revisited occasionally. The world feels cohesive and you can definitely feel the scale of it. A ton of characters are pulled from those different layers to give a sense of progression and nostalgia. It does feel like the story doesn't just disregard everything it has built before (Ofc not talking about the cultivation bit).

It's not definitely the greatest thing out there but while browsing generic xinxias, this is one that follows the general formula and still manages to focus on the story while having a decent system that makes me interested all the way in.

The criticisms are not really worth adressing at all tbh, except maybe about the repetition of the arrogant genius cultivator that want to kill Qin but gets beaten up and the unwarranted hate he gets. For the first one, while true, each time it plays out it is in an enough different setting that you can enjoy it, it can be a slow building sequence of events, a battle he gets dragged in, a quick no name fight, competition battle etc. The background, scale and objective of each conflict is different.

He doesn't really get as much hate as it seems tbh. He gets in equal part goodwill but he never gets the protection he would need because he never really joins a faction. He does bu*t head a lot which is part of the reasons. He joins a faction twice though (and a few organisations for a while). It never goes for a long time where he has the protection of them enough to be safe. <<less

Is this a good cultivation novel? Nah, its pretty average.

Is this a good cultivation novel with romance? Yes!

Are you looking for a cultivation novel that actually has real romance progression? And I'm not just talking about leave your girl for 1000 chapters type of novel, I'm talking about one were the girls actually stay relevant throughout the entire story. If so look no further then AGM which is my favorite Romance/Cultivation novel of all time.

This novel has 2 main female love interest (there are more but they don't matter and... more>> are only picked up at the very end of the novel) and there is a specific reason why the main female love interest allows the MC to be with the other love interest. I won't go into anymore details as to avoid spoiling stuff but if you want to find out why I highly recommend this then you will just have to read it. <<less

Just completed reading this, for me it's overall pretty good cultivation story. It's unique enough as far as cultivation stories are concerned and worldbuilding is pretty good. Why I didn't give it 4 stars is because of when MC "died" at midpoint and went to the new world, story became much different than it was. MC was not as driven, and became quite a playboy. Not that it in itself is something that's necessarily bad for the story, but it's just contradicts so much with story up to that point.... more>> For example he rejected advances of another girl who was much closer to him due to his previous wives, just to bang some relatively random girl short after. Also it felt like every girl was literally crawling up his legs.

Also story cultivation itself felt like it was reduced to just to time skips and it didn't feel like there was any kind of struggle to advance, it was more of a court drama. Overall story and MC changed too much after he went into that new ancient immortal world so that it felt like I was reading a different story. Like there was switch of authors and they were trying to emulate previous one.

I'm giving 4 stars to first half in the azure immortal world, and 2 stars to rest of the story. Overall being 3 or possible even fraction lower. Those stars ratings are just relative to cultivation stories and this platform in general.

PS. Enemies and side characters in story are even more arrogant and provocative than normal, be warned. It's pretty much constant offending -> revenge circle. <<less

Seriously, I wanted to like this novel but I just couldn't. The cultivation is really good which is what I like, it's just the MC and plot. He makes enemies left, right and centre. I feel like every chapter is him getting an extra enemy.
Also most of the characters that come into the story are too arrogant, it really put me off reading it.

I'd say if you can get past these points then you'll enjoy it but I'm dropping it.

is it amazing ? no.. but... it is really satisfying ! :)

it s kind Martial world, MGA, peerless martial god etc are very similar.... but somehow I like this one better.

i m not sure why, the cultivation about astral constellation maybe? the very OP mc? I m not sure but somehow I find it better made than most...

... more>> just the first few chapters are very similar to a lot of stories but somehow I got myself way more interested in it that other novels...

like most tho, story wise it is getting a little less FULL and a little repetitive,

but overall the quality and the action and the mystery is still enough to SATISFY your reader needs.

i ve read a lot of novels and stopped following once I catch up... but this one somehow always calls me back to be up to date. enjoy guys its worth it <<less

Wtf is this? Really, I tried to like it and only read the 5-star comments. Well, it didn't end up well. I read up to 500 something btw. Some chapters were good but the thing is, there was no substance, how to describe it.. so many stuff happening but I didn't get any feeling of reality for the story, for the characters or even cultivation levels. It seems like this is a novel which is copied from all other novels and put together but in the end, the product is... more>> not even good..

And this happens; "a wild girl appears > girl uses ignore/belittle on MC > MC is actually awesome! > girl is shocked! > girl is sorry! > pitiful girl > girl is confused >... this girl". So many wasted moments used to explain this idiot girl's confusion and regret. Don't bother to read it. <<less

Very over-rated, an extremely frustrating read. Every 2 chapters you've someone who wants to kill/hunt down the MC with "You are tr*sh! Courting death!! You dare!!" Face-slapping moments.... the back n forth dialogues seem so repetitive that you lose interest and just keep scrolling through wanting to skip the scene. World building is decent, power ups too... but the MC seems to be obsessed with rocs, palms and runes attacks everytime. There's no change at all!! Just copy-paste with different named villains who think they're above the MC. At this... more>> point I can predict every move of what the MC will do next which makes it bland. 3 STARS <<less

Seriously the MC has not been able to get any major thing done without getting external help, starting from chu all the way to living that world. I rather rate the Azure emperor and the Xia emperor higher than the MC. The MC took over the factions left by the azure emperor even with that he had to get enternal help in taking it over, in fact the time he over threw the chu emperor he had those two transcendent powers helping. Now this arc is also starting with the... more>> evergreen princess good will which will end poorly for those poor Eastern sage Sec which tried to help, all because of a beauty, I don't see why that young Prince would want her at all cost knowing he won't get her. It does not make sense which to me does not present a strong foundation for the arc more to the point its not like he wants her for more power.I guess the MC will get external help to destroy them as he always do which is boring, can't he at lest use his strength to found something like the azure emperor and xia emperor. More to the point the writer talks about him being able to stand on his own which is totally different from what he archives, especially when offending major powers he gets help in escaping starting from chu to chapter 800. I know it will continue, let's not talk of repetitions because its not only on this novel. <<less

Tons of plot holes, and annoyingly retarted "young masters" around every corner. But that's still readable. It's was interesting and I would definitely give it a higher rating if the recent development didn't make me drop it immediately.

*spoiler*

So his body gets turned into a big ass ret*rded f*ckin' bird that's irreversible which would still be acceptable if he could just turn back. But no he can't do he ends up getting this cultivation art that allows him to have two body's. Which I was pretty excited for, but of course... more>> leave it to a wuxia author to ruin the story. He ends up making a whole new body different face, different name. Everything it's like really dude? I spent all this time reading this just for the MC to turn straight p**sy. While the MC is a big ass retarted bird there's basically a new MC. Literally the #1 thing I hate in these novels is when the whole "Double body" or when they hide like beat dogs changing their face etc. So dropped, ok while it lasted. <<less

MC is described as an intelligent and collected one, well it last around 20 chapters, past that he makes enemies left and right for absurd reason.

One dimensional characters that exist to either make thing difficult for the MC or support him.

Predictable novel, you only need to read few chapters in an arc to be able to guess how this one is going to be played.

The plot armor is strong on this one.

Spoiler

If you the author describe a clan/sect as being the strongest in an area, it mean an irreconcilable feud between them and the MC.

The crowd.

Spoiler

Despite being a harem, only 2 women are in it so far.

Overall a classic novel with a hot-blooded MC killing stuff left and right for petty reasons, avoid if you are looking for something deep.

Edit: Later on, The MC attract enmity just by breathing (Constellation, possessions, women, inheritance... etc)

Also a lot of "young master" will pop out. <<less
