Kim Dokja does not consider himself the protagonist of his own life. Befitting the name his parents gave him, he is a solitary person whose sole hobby is reading web novels. For over a decade, he has lived vicariously through Yu Junghyeok, the main character of the web novel Three Ways to Survive the Apocalypse (TWSA).

Through Junghyeok, Dokja has experienced secondhand the trials of repeatedly regressing in time, in search of an end to life-threatening “scenarios” that force people to act out narratives for the amus**ent of god-like “Constellations.”

After reading 3,149 chapters—long after all other readers lost interest—Dokja finally resigns himself to the story ending. However, he receives an enigmatic message from the author, stating that the story will soon be monetized, before his surroundings suddenly go dark.

He swiftly realizes that fiction has become reality and he is now living through TWSA. Although he is the singular omniscient reader of the events yet to come, his success in the scenarios is not guaranteed—but perhaps his advantage will empower him to step into the protagonist role that never suited him before.

Binge-read through and blasted through the novel. Initially got hooked because I found the webtoon interesting. I think the beginning of the novel is a little bit laggy in the sense whereby perhaps its hard to understand the system and also the many different characters being introduced.

The webtoon makes this a lot easier for you to kind of get a feel for what's going on. After ~c31 of the webtoon which was a bit of a cliffhanger, I think more information really comes through the web novel. I really enjoyed... more>> this novel, the characters are all likable and because of the variation in the characters, it really helps to make them all shine in different places and times.

The setting could be hard to understand with all the different references to obscure stories and cultural references, but it makes the setting really rich. All in all, I loved the conclusion, the characters, and the whole journey to get to the end of the novel with all the characters.

I think the star system is really fun with the commentary of the constellations too! <<less

I'd whole heartedly rate this novel 4.9-5 stars... though I may be biased because of the ending. It is a bit of a long read (?)
i know there were parts (around 460) where the battles got a bit repetitive but if you go through that it gets better, I promise you won't regret it.
I really liked the characters, the world building, the plot and deep themes even If there were a few ridiculous moments that didn't make sense...

Spoiler

ah yes the revival and the amazing antics of Kim Dokja

[collapse]

SO what I'm trying to say is, no, this novel isn't perfect but there were special moments that were really beautiful and emotional that I loved.

the ending was something amazing. You won't regret seeing the epilogue.

Let me start by saying I was heavily into this novel's fandom for awhile, so the review might be biased. Anyways, I actually came from the webtoon (which is pretty great quality), and was immediately taken by the novel. Reading so far into it now, I can say that the earlier arcs are my favourite. Everything was so nicely paced and the set of characters all worked.

Plot: It was good. I'm not so sure about uniqueness because I havent read many genre novels at the time, but the heavy emphasis... more>> on the 'system' and constellations was nice. The direction was refreshing even though its still the same underdog tale. However, as the chapters piled on it kept getting harder and harder to read. I dunno when it got a bit too repetitive and contrived,
Spoiler

probably around the time outer god yjh showed up

[collapse]
The overarching plot is pretty interesting though, its not really explained or explained at all until the later chapters. Its just at that point I can't help but feel like the smaller arcs were just filler and had a ton of deus ex machina moments.

Characters: This is where I lean a bit. I just love the MC. I have a thing for the Holy Saint type characters and KDJ is like, perfect in my eyes.
Spoiler

Everytime he self-sacrifices in the name of friendship I just get these massive heart eyes I can't stop.

[collapse]
I would say maybe like 5 of the main cast get fleshed out, while the rest are still cool so its fine if you don't really care.

Theres like a ton of leeway for the novel settings as you go on and some stuff just become secondary
Spoiler

(eg coins, items etc.) but if you're still trudging on at that point, you probably don't care, I didn't. Other stuff is like the mechanics of the "stories" they collected. Like do you 'bleed' out? Its all very vague ch250 onwards

[collapse]

All said and done, it was pretty good compared to others of the same genre. Its not really a 'leveling-up' novel cuz MC is pretty OP from the get-go and the story is way more plot-oriented without the messy leveling side-arcs. The novel holds a special place in my heart just from the sheer amount of time I invested it so its 4/5. I actually tried tocf and sclasses after this but those were so? Different to this idk why they're always grouped together lol. Phew anyways, I'm still keeping up with the webtoon and I hope it goes on for a long long time. <<less

This my first review in this site, and I just wanted to share a piece of my opinion about this story.

The story at the beginning was good. The concept was unique and there were a some cliches mixed in. We, as the reader, are exploring this new world in the eyes of our main character, and how he resists and survive throughout the seemingly everlasting scenarios. I must admit, I was enjoying myself with our mc's wit and style in solving and overcoming these scenarios, as well meeting new members... more>> and characters along the way. Not only did I grow to like the survivors (aka incarnations) around the MC, but as well as the constellations that were watching over their sufferings. It's their little quirky personalities that really helps you to like them. Though, I wished there was more development in some of the characters... Don't get me wrong. the characters, well at least most of them, have some sort of development, but the thing I seek is the personal interactions with our MC that helps make them feel alive and special... though I guess this is our mc's fault for being too, uh, well you'll see if you read it. Don't panic, the MC isn't some lone ranger marching the story without a hint of emotion. The MC is actually written neatly but ambiguous as well for the ending's interpretation.

If you decide to read this story, don't ever give up. It might get boring sometimes, and you might want to quit half way through with all the chapters and what not. But I implore you to keep pushing forward, to not regress, for you should finish this story with this life, and see its ending in this world.

I promise you that you'll love certain characters while hate others, and you'll question certain parts of the story that seemed confusing or even plot holish. But if you keep pushing forward into this story's conclusion, its ending... You'll start to figure things out for you are one smart cookie what it means to be a reader like the MC, like me, and to all those who like reading stories online.

Sidenote: I wish there was some romance development for the MC but after reading the ending it was for the best that there wasn't a conclusive answer for this, since we all love that idiotic MC. <<less

On my opinion this is a pretty good novel. The character development, the plot, the friendship between the characters (especially Kim Dokja and Yoo Junghyuk), the epilogue was pretty amazing. There may be times were its pretty hard to understand but it was worth it.

I am also very satisfied with the ending, it was saddening because you don't know what happened afterwards (if you know what I'm saying for those who have completed the novel) but that's were we readers show up, imagining their life after all scenarios.

Spoiler

After they spread the novel that they wrote (which they were not able to finish) and when Kim Dokja finally wakes up.

[collapse]

Considering this is the first novel I have ever read, I would say that this was a pretty fun experience. Though my opinions may not apply to the other readers, I could only accept them for they have their own preference.

But I would still recommend this novel to other people and let them see for themselves whether they would drop this or finish this. <<less

I liked it, personally I like stories with myths from religions so this was right up my alley. I think the novel didn't drag things out 500 chapters was enough for the story the authors wanted to tell, there were some parts that were kinda weird and unsatisfying though. I do recommend it, there are cliches but they are easy to read through.

Spoilers below

One of the side characters, Gong Pil Du, not really being expended on but he would just follow the main group without complains. The ending dragged out... more>> slightly but the plot twists were pretty cool, the ending is slightly open ended, the MC woke up but since the world needed the MC to survive is that really the MC which was kinda the main point on why they all chose to regress again. It is a very good story but there are some questionable points. <<less

One of my favourite Korean novels hands down. On par with or better than Everyone Else is a Returnee just amazing. Side characters are kind of forgettable but other than that I struggle to find a fault I consider this a must-read.

This was one hell of a ride I say... and I loved every part of it.

Kim Dokja's actions and everything he does always works out somehow and I thought that's way too unrealistic but near the end it gets explained why gets lucky every damn time ... more>>
Spoiler

this is a world his younger self imagined being a character of (the novel that literally saved his life from the tr*sh life he had, depression etc.)

[collapse]

Spoiler

His childhood was a very sad one... domestic abuse, bullying, constant glare of people... and he even tried to commit su*cide by jumping off a building but gets seriously injured instead due to a tree obstructing his fall. It was then he stumbled upon a novel with a protagonist that never gave up and continued to go against fate while enduring hardships losing his precious ones, but still persisting and not giving up. He was comforted by that and decided to persist as well just like the protagonist, following the novel for 13 years of serialization as the sole reader

[collapse]

He is smart, slick tongued cunning bastard who is more like a scammer. Tends to sacrifice himself a lot that leads to emotional scarring of his comrades. Kind of a hypocrite sometimes, but nobody is perfect and Dokja is just that. This depressing dude along with Yoo Jonghyuk seriously needs a therapy...

Yoo Jonghyuk is the protagonist of the og novel, also too OP and it gets explained why it's like that in the end as well.
Spoiler

He has regression depression as well and tends to do thing with sheer violence, thinks he can just die and start again from the beginning. Due to losing his comrades again and again, he develops shadows on his mind and no longer feel like making friends with other people. However after meeting Kim Dokja his view changed and calls KDJ his companion. He's also a pitiful guy.

[collapse]

Han Sooyoung is the best girl. The brain of the group, clever, makes a best team with Kim Dokja. They were enemies first but after some time becomes allies. She notices stuff other people don't and predicts outcomes and does actions based on that. Before the apocalypse she used to be an author of a popular webnovel and because of that her imagination is vast. She is the voice of reason.

Other side characters are good as well, we get their background information as the novel progresses, sometimes too 2 dimensional but it's not an issue.

All in all, this novel has some loopholes here and there, unexplained stuff that's why i'll give it a 4 star. BUT! if you let that slide it's a pretty enjoyable novel. This novel also tackles issues with time paradox and stuff and sympathizing with characters. Heck I even cried during some part. If you relate to some characters then do prepare your tissues.

People who left negative reviews probably felt this was way too unrealistic munchkin novel.. if they persisted and read till the end they would've known why it was set up like that. <<less

A word of advice, if you haven’t finished this novel you’re missing out on half the fun, the epilogue is another story in and off itself and will probably make you feel emotions you wouldn’t expect in a novel like this. I don’t wanna spoil so I’ll just say that this novel is an experience, go ahead and read the entire thing, it’s not possible to judge it if you read only 50, 100 or even 300 chapters. It isn’t perfect by any means but you’ll end up loving or... more>> hating Kim Dokja by the end of it. I’m certain of that. Like another review said,

Spoiler

Its Kim Dokja's story for Kim Dokja by Kim Dokja. And we’re all Kim Dokja.

[collapse]

There are a few tropes but I think they are rather original in a way, the power system is pretty different in my opinion despite having a common basic structure and that isn’t and shouldn’t be the focus of this story. It’s a story about the characters in the story, I know it isn’t a good review but I promise you won’t regret reading to the end and will come out of it reminiscing the experience. <<less

I have two issues.

One- I didn't get to the reaction of the reunion in the end. I mean after reading this novel will soapy feelings, at least end the novel with soapy feelings with a soapy conclusion.

Two- The guy asking “You bastard, are you the <<Big Brother>>?” in chp 527 wasn't really concluded as they mentioned other dimensions and who on Earth is big brother. That particular part didn't have any finale.

this is a MUST READ story, there are chapters that will leave you a question, but it will be answered on a later part of the story! There is so much to learn in... more>> this story that makes it worth the read! Idk if I can express how much I love this novel without spoiling anything so I do hope many will read it~ For me this novel will be part of some of my life changing read <<less

It's a long arduous read. The story was unique and I can really see the author's effort, but I think its a bit overrated.

I found the setting interesting but it could've been better honestly. It has its good parts and bad parts I guess. One thing I like though is the side characters having a life of their own, they're not just a brainless character put in the story to make it continue.

I can't really blame some people for not liking this novel cuz it gets too bland sometimes.

... more>> Story: 3/5

Characters: 4.5/5

Plot: 4/5

Interactions: 4/5

Action: 3/5 (I don't really like the battles in this novel that much, its a bit too bland for my taste.)

Overall: 3.7 round it off to 4. So 4/5

The story is good but still have flaws, but a ? Percent recommended for me. <<less

Awesome story. I actually stopped reading the series for at least a year. I saw that the "Completed" status of the series and decided to read this once again. I didn't drop the series because of it being boring, but rather half way through the story, a new translater took over. So a lot of the spelling of character names and certain terms in the story are changed. It would be a bit confusing initially, but it doesn't make it impossible in understanding the story. It would just take some... more>> time in getting used to. So, I would recommend to definitely give the story a try.

I won't give too many specific details about the story, but if you want a happy ending, you would have to read until the last chapter of the epilogue. If you just read the main chapters there would just be a sad ending. Even towards the last chapters of the epilogue, I thought the story was still heading towards a bad end. Thankfully it did not, although this webnovel does have the tag of "Tragedy". I will admit however, that the ending isn't quite what the readers would ideally want. It would have been better if the author decided to add in some extra epilogue chapters. If they did it would be a complete happy ending. <<less

This is my rating as of now. The MC had to rely on the main character indorder ot survive disregarding his omniscience abilities. He is reckless and not flexible. In the face of other side characters he always act like a some sort of a God. But infront of the Main character he is like a rabbit ready to be slaughtered. Is this all KN can do when writting OP MC? In CN there are plenty of MC who can act calm and genius at the same time. But here?... more>> The MC is only calm lol. Just a piece of tr*sh like the NOvel Extra Shit! <<less

Tldr: Good Read, worth your time.

Amazing story. Honestly it makes me feel so much that I cant express myself. The protagonist is full of hope and I enjoy the interactions he has with the other characters. I also admire the way he tries to fight against the way things are normally established and strives to achieve the end he hopes for.

In a way this story is also predictable but even so it is still enjoyable. I recommend this to those who enjoy books like tr*sh of the Count's Family since... more>> they have similar premise and those who enjoy self sacrificing protagonists will probably like this novel too.

The protagonist is a big factor in the other character's lives so whenever he's gone the side characters tend to suffer a lot emotionally. Im just putting this point up so to give a heads up to other readers who would start this novel. Prepare yourselves for this particular point since it is quite prominent in the novel. Tbh I'm taking a break from this novel due to that point.

In any case it's still a good read, I dont regret placing it on my list. <<less

I am only 16 chapters in and I have lost count of the amount of times I burst out laughing at how this author deals with common tropes in these kinds of novels, and on top of that there is a perfect balance between being on the edge of your seat and relaxed story telling to give you an exciting but not overwhelming story.
