Picked up by the Protagonist of a Tormented! MC Novel

Description

Links are NOT allowed. Format your description nicely so people can easily read them. Please use proper spacing and paragraphs.

A suffering MC novel—the main character must be forced to suffer, be oppressed until they’re hovering between life and death, dying and living here and there. They can have a golden finger, but before getting it they must pay the price. They can also have beautiful women, but all are snake and scorpion beauties, able to look at but not eat.

“Curse” is just that type of suffering MC novel. The main character Xi Wei, after being forced to experience numerous sufferings, had, at last, become the most powerful, at the same time linking together with the world’s qi and fate. After he was oppressed too miserably, he committed su*cide and buried the entire world with him.

Zeno transmigrated, in the end arriving at “Curse of sh*t motherf*cker”.

Zeno was adopted by the MC, finally becoming the number one person/wife.

Zeno: Help, I don’t want to be destined to be raised by this perverse person!

All living things (wipe away tears): You must rescue this world, ah.

Xi Wei: Come over here.

I like the story and all but the progress is rlly slow. The age progression thing. Not big has happened yet and tho I can feel love, it's NOT THAT kind of love. It's like some slow burn romance. And the MC were girls clothing is rlly bothersome.

ok the girl thing is getting rlly annoying. If the author want a girl instead why did she/he even write a BL novel in the first place??

This is a story about learning to trust, among many other things. It's not a 5 for the same reason I downgraded scum villain ... more>>

i have a serious problem with the MC committing betrayal, (or making someone think you betrayed them), especially when someone does it for ML "own good" (same reason I stopped watching Kdramas; all that unnecessary noble sacrifice BS). Its one of my hot buttons, along with r*pe (scum villain has both so it lost more than 1 star).

The story wasn't exactly what I was expecting when I read the summery but it was a good read overall. <<less

A heads-up, the ML is someone without a correct moral system. He is someone who would r*pe, kill, basically do anything to achieve his goals. The only reason he isn't a serial killer is because 1. There's no benefit 2. He dislikes attention

Very well-written characters and plot. There is a logical progression to the story and it makes sense why ML and MC would react as they did.

Spoiler

For example there was a lot of foreshadowing that MC would eventually betray ML. ML is paranoid about betrayal and in the OGnovel he tested everyone in his party only for them to fail. MC was "forced" to betray ML because he knew ML did not completely trust him after it was revealed he was a child with the mind of an adult.

[collapse]

Usually this kind of cliche is done purely to trigger the reader's angst but in this case it makes sense as to why this is regarded as the novel's climax. I cannot imagine the novel progressing in any other way.

My only gripe is that I wished the author included a few extras from the side characters' perspectives in the OGtimeline. The OGtimeline painted all of ML's companions as conniving traitors and yet ML is now chummy with them? Why? ML didn't change? And the OG hinted to several characters that never appeared like the first little brother to betray ML. Who is he, where is he, what did he do and what was his motivation? <<less

I really liked him about this novel at first, but suddenly everything started to become simple, I think it started with their departure from the city they lived in, as if the author had many conspiracies in mind and tried to fit them all into the story without thinking, now I have finished more than half of the story, but still nothing much about bl.

MC is not as interesting as at the beginning of the story, like in a clichéd novel since his powers came, ML seems to care a... more>> lot for him, one moment he owns it, the next he doesn't care when he disappears for 2 weeks.

  1. It could have been a good novel with its subject, I was disappointed, of course, these are my thoughts, you can read and have your own ideas because I saw comments that liked this story.

This was the first novel I read here on NU and I forgot its title and was looking for it desperately. Today I found it thanks to Kala's review. And she did not even like that novel!

I loved it so much, how those two kids, a little beggar and a tiny baby he cares for, struggled to survive and they did in a cruel world of immoral adults.

The unusual part is that the beggar is the future hero of this world (novel) and that inside the baby's body is a... more>> soul of a modern adult Chinese man. He transmigrated after reading that novel. <<less

Slow. Very very slow. So far it seems like a slice-of-life genre. Two kids doing their best to survive to the point they might starve to death. ML is colder than ice. He barely has any presence or any emotions about life or people. Why does he take care of MC, idk? Neither does ML. MC being a kid, is helpless. I barely feel any connection with the characters. Slice of life is not my cuppa tea.

This novel had such a strong start. The sweet father son relationship between the two leads had me wishing there wasn't any romance in this story. Based on the first half of the novel I would give it 4-5 stars. Even with only a decent ending I would probably be raving about it. I really like when MC says "If a rich man gave me 100 silver coins I would be thankful, but he had only a copper coin and he gave me a copper coin, so he gave me... more>> everything." It summarizes their relationship well.

However, after the time skip and MC physically grows up, both MC and ML lose most of their character and stop making sense. I have no clue why or when ML's feelings go from fatherly to romantic. It just happens out of nowhere. He also claims not to love the MC, but be obsessed and want to posses him. Then randomly later they're in love with no explanation of how that happened and no onscreen love confession from ML.

MC's character gets ruined the worst though. The whole story he wants to treat the ML sweetly and show him that there are people out there who won't betray him. He also wants to keep ML from being betrayed at all cost. Then the author decided the novel needed a climax and they didn't want to show the work of being in a relationship with someone with deep trauma. So they have him become totally ooc and betray ML for s*upid and selfish reasons.

Spoiler

This is the s*upid reason he betrays ML. MC and ML almost make love, since ML has trauma with s*x he doesn't go through with it. MC assumes just because ML has s*xual trauma and isn't immediately cool with doing it their first time trying, that means ML doesn't fully trust him yet. MC's idea is that he will purposefully betray the ML because mind games and shock therapy is the perfect way to treat someone who has trust issues/s. When ML captures him MC says his last wish is to be r*ped before he dies. It really comes across like MC does all of this to get laid. Then MC comes out and says "I didn't betray you all along, I just lied to you and had you thinking for YEARS that the only person you cared about never cared about you." Then it is written that MC was right to play with ML's emotions all along because he "cures" the ML of trust issues by betraying him and turning him into a r*pist.

[collapse]

The extras and ending in general just feel extremely rushed and bad. MC tells ML he is a transmigrator in a paragraph that says "and then I told him, " without ever showing his reaction. Even after reading the whole story, it never really makes me believe in the leads as a good romantic relationship. If you want to read I recommend just stop reading after MC becomes physically 16. <<less

Personally I find it bland? Sooo bland, it was between boring and interesting but what disturbed me is that they will soon be lovers, the moment MC called ML "baba" or "papa" I already accepted them as father-son duo but I know it won't remain that way.

What really made me drop this is ML is too cold, although actions speak louder than words, he cares for the MC like carrying him on his arms but no particular form of affection, he don't even rub his head or something, he just... more>> too cold, and MC is too attached, I understand that ML is the first family he ever had (that's why it's weird they'll become lovers). It's probably because of my own experience, I don't like people who get attached to people who has plan on abandoning them, getting scared that they'll leave, trying their best to make them stay, it's pathetic, they don't want you so why force them to stay, I hate it. But then again this is from my own feelings, if you want to read it, just read it <<less

Overall, this is a good read. I really liked how the MC wasn't the silly and naive type. He has a decent IQ and an even greater EQ from what I can tell as he knows how to navigate around the bomb like ML quite comfortably.

As for the ML, his basic settings of someone who trusts no one but himself will be turned around after a lot of time and a lot of hard work and scheming on the MC's side with a brief obsessive yandere interlude. I'm glad the... more>> yandere phase was short and he reverted back into the "wife"-doting gong.

Some might think of the whole thing from father-son to lovers as off-putting, but I don't really mind here. The whole process is rather understandable. The MC was never a real child to begin with and did not really see the ML as his father while the ML grew up in an environment where common morals are nothing to care about. Adding to that, it was the MC who actively pursued and pushed the relationship which may also drive the ick factor down. Besides, the romantic development only started after the MC gained an adult body.

Plotwise, there were a few inconsistencies which did not bother me all too much. I also give plus points for the fact that the novel made me cry.

So My star rating will be: 4.6/5 <<less

It's my first novel where I just can't continue to read it anymore. The misunderstanding between MC and ML is just wtf, most of the time just doesnt make sense (for me at least). There's like no??? chemistry between them and the age gap mannn the age gap even though MC is a transmigrator but I just, I just cannot stop thinking about the age gap
Then there is the ending like MC? HELLO? What kind of f*cked up thing did you just....

This review probably don't make sense. I read... more>> this bcs there is a lot of 5 star review and this is probably the first time I genuinely felt like I wasted time reading a webnovel. I regret it so much 😪 <<less

for example, when MC betrays the ML and then the ML locks the MC up??? And then misunderstands the MC.

I really liked this novel up till the last few chapters. It was touching to see the MC and ML interact with each other and the hardships they went through really made me feel. The writing of course enhanced this all. I really liked the personalities of both the MC and ML as well! The ML is very consistent with his character. A lot of the side characters also grew on me. They had more depth than a typical side character would get in a novel. Overall the novel was... more>> very enjoyable to read!

... Unfortunately there's the ending.

Spoiler

I understand the MC wanted to get rid of the roadblocks in their relationship but was it really necessary to betray him and then proceed to mess with his feelings only to do the "big reveal" at the end? It's such a bad move on the MC's part that it just brought the entire novel down for me. There really wasn't another healthier way to resolve this? I feel like the author was trying to make a big point with drama but in doing so dragged the rest of the story down with it. I'm not going to lie the last few chapters had scenes that made me actually cringe when reading them. Also this is just personal preference but making the extra in the style of a forum really shifted the setting the novel had. The modernity of the extras was a real mood breaker for me as well. An internet forum where the users who are new to this using internet slang? Okay. I would've rather read the events from the eyes of our MC, like the rest of the novel.

[collapse]

Honestly I would rate this a 3.5* solely because of how frustrated the ending made me. <<less

ok this book is kinda good but I still think it kinda short and haven't reach its full potential. The flow of the story is good but the side characters are all quite lacking IMO. Like I know you wanna make it all about how the ML can only trust the MC but still I actually wanna see better interaction between them and people outside their bubble, like what about Xin An just cause he got blind he got split personality?? I don't know if the extras will try to... more>> solidify other side characters but from the first extra is all I can say is why in forum format??!! I just think the topic of the lost dad you should at least search properly instead of just going at a forum saying that you guys fought because of the topic. I know the internet is "all knowledgeable" but bruh to me it was like a TMI kinda thing. The power system also kinda seem like unnecessary cause why did you introduce it if you not gonna follow it. It freaking tagged as martial arts but barely contained what it promised I actually read for yaoi and MARTIAL ARTS. The only reason I think the author wanna put the martial arts tag is so s/he can make about the destiny stone plot line but can't fill up other than that.

plot:3.5

action:2.5

side characters:2.5

final score:3.5 but rounded it to 4 cause I'm nice lol <<less

While the beginning was slow with the story of how the main characters grew up together, I kept reading because the interactions were very heart-warming, and I knew it was building up to more exciting and important things. The translation was very good, and I grew to care about the characters, and then couldn't stop reading, because I wanted to know the truth behind all the mysteries in the story. What I appreciated most was that even though the reader was privy to Zeno's thoughts throughout most of the story,... more>> near the end, the author had Zeno do something that was really confusing to me, so that I felt the way Xi Wei must have felt until the truth was explained. And how thought-provoking the ending was was pleasantly unexpected. Well Done, Author! <<less

I have to give this a 5* because I've been following it for so long (1.5 years now) and I love the MC and ML so much by this point. The beginning was slow, but I enjoyed reading it none the less. I'm just hoping that some of the extra chapters will have a little bit of romance (fluff or otherwise) since the main story didn't have much of it.

Honest ? Review ?

Well, it was a really interesting novel. I've read a lot of novels that has this kind of relationship between ML and MC but honestly, I really like this one compared to most of them.

To be honest, there's some points where I want to just drop this novel but I didn't and I'm glad that I didn't because the ending pays off. There's some holes here and there but I'm willing to put it aside.

I'm not going to focus on the character for this review but I... more>> do want to focus in their relationship. Like I said, there's too many novels that has this kind of relationship but this particular novel plays it well.

Spoiler

In this novel, you will see how someone struggle in a relationship where they are not completely honest with each other. It's not just some basic "I want you so you are mine now" but there's a lot of internal struggle between both of them and I think it makes them more believeable as a character. I also love how MC sees that and decide to make ML face his fears and then (I hope) improve their relationship. It's not the usual "you are so cool I was straight and now I'm bent for you" but there's an actual working relationship where you see a problem in your partner and you change them together for the better so that it can actually work out.

[collapse]

There's not many novels that include that particular relationship point in their story so this one is refreshing.

I think it'll be better if there's a bonus chapter where we can see both MC and ML work together and the result of those struggle in relationship to make them more alive but that's just me.

Overall, it was an enjoyable read. Good job for the author and translator that help us read this novel. <<less

In terms of characterization this novel is rather perfect. The MC makes some hard decisions which are fully and logically considered, but based on emotions you'll empathize with. It'll make you wonder if you would have the same courage to risk everything, or simply be satisfied with the facade. It'll make you realize the unhealthiness of other supposedly romantic relationships involving yanderes. It'll raise the bar for satisfactory reading. You've been warned.

The characters, with their singular personalities and especially their weaknesses, are what make this novel a standout. The entire... more>> plot is driven by the MC's considerations of the ML before, during, and after he is put into a novel-within-a-novel framework. In other words, the MC accurately analyzes and understands all aspects of the ML while both of them push each other to grow physically and mentally.

The author/translator is a bit sloppy with unnecessary details about the setting, but that's a tiny criticism in comparison to the vividness of the characters and their actions. As with many long fantasy novels, there are several open-ended (minor) mysteries:

Spoiler
    • ID of MC's father and what happened to him
    • Who killed MC's mother
    • Specific description of the demon catalyst and how it affects the ML
    • What happens when Elf Queen Hua Li confronts Asil
    • How the remaining Shadow demons, especially Tang Yu, intend to deal with the MC
    • Why is Asil considered a princess
    • Will the ML ever say he loves the MC?

Highly recommend for those who enjoy BL, yandere, and true love. <<less

This novel ended in a confusing way for me, but I still loved reading it. I respect the decisions each character made. They may be s*upid, they may have been bad decisions, but I still respect them for giving their reasons for everything they did and in trying to fix things in what they thought was the best course of action.

These guys don't think like normal people and they didn't grow up like normal people, so the fact that they did things that make us normal people mad, is understandable.... more>> The people in this novel are far from perfect, but honestly? I like that. <<less

This story is very touching and sincerely. I love this. This is doesn't story about yandere who hate everyoneone and bulling and raping MC, until he get a Stockholm Syndrome. Their feelings are mutual and they realizing this close to the end. They spend 5 years in the childhood. ML raising small child while himself 11 years old child. Childhood in poverty was most emotional part of novel for me.

I like this traits of ML because his thought pretty reasonable.

, , For all in this life you must pay, you... more>> can't get anything free. You shouldn't expect help from other., ,

Also he is most hate betrayal. He is not fierce at all, doesn't hate anyone, he is indifferent for people, but close people important for him. With time he become better, he can say few words in conversation with outsider and think about love.

I like MC, usually character in such novels irritate, because it's nothing special, but they s*upid and can't do anything right. MC never complaining and always stays calm, make conclusions and think about solving problems. He doesn't genius, he make silly things, but I anyway have good impression about him.

This is doesn't about cultivation, ghosts or fights it's telling about relationships and life simple people. How two children trying to earn money for their survival, study at school and fall in love.

I love this because of mutual love which doesn't unexpectedly happened. I like main characters because I can understand them. And it was just cute, their relationship. <<less
