Trash of the Count’s Family

Description

When I opened my eyes, I was inside a novel.

[The Birth of a Hero].

[The Birth of a Hero] was a novel focused on the adventures of the main character, Choi Han, a high school boy who was transported to a different dimension from Earth, along with the birth of the numerous heroes of the continent.

I became a part of that novel as the tr*sh of the Count’s family, the family that oversaw the territory where the first village that Choi Han visits is located.

The problem is that Choi Han becomes twisted after that village, and everyone in it, is destroyed by assassins.

The bigger problem is the fact that this s*upid tr*sh who I’ve become doesn’t know about what happened in the village and messes with Choi Han, only to get beaten to a pulp.

“…This is going to be a headache.”

I feel like something serious has happened to me.

But it was worth trying to make this my new life.

Ideally I would've given this novel a 3.5/5 but the voting system isn't adept enough to accomplish.

The story itself is intriguing and catchy enough to keep my attention engaged and the main character has an amiable personality. These points by themselves elevate the novel's rating to 4.5 in my eyes.

However, for me its shortcoming is the near cringy interactions between some characters and the MC. I'll give an example in the spoiler below and you can see whether it's something that you find bearable or not.

Spoiler

So the context behind this passage is that a few chapters ago Cale released this dragon from captivity and instead of trying to possess it, gave it its freedom before nonchalantly leaving. However, the dragon chooses to follow Cale and has some tsundere-esque personality that I find detestable and ill suited.

All further exchanges between the dragon and Cale always include some manner of the dragon commenting on Cale's weakness and how it needs to protect him but its not doing it because he's friends with Cale or anything.

Cale had walked toward the dragon, that was pretending like nothing was going on and instead kept staring up at the sky. Cale just continued to stare at the dragon that was crouched down on the ground. He then stoically asked the dragon, as if he was throwing a rock into a lake.

“You want to come with me?”
“... You are so weak that you need protection. But I do not like humans.”

The novel is definitely good.

I started by reading manhwa first and was so bored that I dropped it. But later when I found that it had a novel, I immediately started reading this and I definitely did not regret it one bit.

Cale definitely is one of my favorite protagonist out there. Unlike those cliché overpowered MC who can do anything our MC here actually has weaknesses too which just makes it so much better.

Spoiler

The story just gets more interesting after the henituse territory battle.

[collapse]

The only flaw (?) this novel had was the writing. Some sentences were so corny as well as repetitive that it was annoying.

Other than that the side were characters were fine. Definitely worth reading. <<less

This is a very lightread novel. Not that long, as I've read this more than three times and finished it less than a week. It's very fun, and I laughed alot so I guess it's okay. Would recommend after reading some angst.

I stopped reading but it is good great even. Still I have one complaint. THERE IS TOO MANY THINGS HAPPENING. I can't manage to follow sometimes. Still recommend reading it. Characters are complex enough for me and plot is good. Still I need a filler or something. I stopped reading because my head would burst because of too much information. I'm just complaining. Just read it slowly not like me for 2 weeks in a row without stop.

I created an account just to write a review on this.

Literally one of the best things I've read till date. Doesn't get boring mo matter how much you re read it. One of the main reasons that I actually like it is that there's no romance, I won't mind if there will be later in the series but our MC doesn't even have the time to be a slacker 😭

I love isekai manga and novel but the repetitive trope slowly get into me. However, this one is just great.

1. We have an MC who wants to be a slacker. But unlike other tropes MC IS DIFFERENT, FINALLY!! (im so tired of leads wanting to stay on the background to "lie low" while trying to ignore the danger then grumbling about how he don't want to be involved despite being OP then grumbles some more that he over did it or something) Here, MC wants to be slacker yes but... more>> he acknowledges the fact that in order to achieve that he needs to make sure that he lives in a peaceful world so he has to work for it. It was because of this self acknowledgement that he slowly starts shedding his "tr*sh" mask. Think of MC as an office worker preparing for his retirement life.

2. We have female characters that doesn't suddenly fall in love with the lead because of little reasons or due to suspension bridge effect. The women in this story are strong, independent, dependable and doesn't fall easily or get into cat fight. No harem hurrah!!!

3. The side characters are not just there to make the lead stand out, they have their own time to shine and they are as equally important as the lead. This is not a one man show but a team effort. No one is replaceable and they do their job right. It is them that makes it possible for the MC to be reckless when needed.

4. The pacing is okay and the world building gives you enough to create a picture in your head. The adventures though at times seem repetitive always had just the right amount to keep you from tapping that next button. It is addictive.

5. Also the first chapters doesn't give much information about MC's background. This gives the reader the idea that his only advantage is information about the book.. However please persists, the fact that he was able to stay in character and fool an assassin that raised his "body" gives that hint that MC is not someone ordinary.
Spoiler

His ability to command and strategize is not mere fluke or due to his knowledge in the book. He came in an apocalyptic world and where his ability are passive and is suited for support so his strategic skills are entirely his own, he was commander for a reason.

[collapse]

6. Each chapter is long so some might find it a bit tiring, like I said some scenes may get a bit repetitive and some seems a bit like fillers. Also if you worry about MC reading the book, he he... remember he did not finish the book. <<less

THIS IS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE NOVEL THAT I HAVE READ MULTIPLE TIMES AND WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE. I'm not joking; this has everything I've ever wanted in a novel outside of romance and makes me wish that it'll never end. (ノ≧∇≦) ノ ミ ┻━┻ There are many reviews detailing the characters and plot so I won't go into that but rather I'd want to focus on the progression of the story as a whole. In the beginning, unlike the norm, the main characters... more>> perception of himself is different from those of his companions so it took a while for me to understand others reaction to his words when he was rationalizing everything in his thoughts. His emotions and empathy have always been there in the smallest words and gestures, though he himself was blind to them and it was a pleasure as he went from calculative and dense to clumsy expression of his thoughts to his friends. Moreover the progression of his self sacrificing behavior was well thought out and not a sudden enlightenment that changed his character settings overnight; instead he stumbled, repeated his mistakes at times but realized the worries of his loved ones and conveyed his intentions to change. That would be my favorite aspect of the character and along with his scheming ಡ ͜ ʖ ಡ

It's long, I admit, but well worth it. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go and read this marvelous piece of literature again (人*´∀`) 。*゚+ <<less

Currently waiting for new update for 743 and I have to say this...

Reading this story is one of the best decisions I did in my life. None of my friends are fond of reading novels but I keep on recommending them this (even if it's not usual of me). Because it's really really out of this world.

There are times that I feel exhausted reading this too, reading multiple chapters a day, since the chapters are already in 700 when I first started reading it. I stopped at some time too.... more>> But right now, past 500 chapter, I'm once again feeling the hype I felt the when I first read chapter 01 months ago.

I don't think it's a spoiler but the reason this current story is only a "Part 1" is because all the events that have happened in the earliest chapters, all the minor details, actually have deeper stories behind it, there are hidden things that will be revealed soon, and it's only in 700+ chapters that the MC noticed/knew everything.

I don't think TCF's genre is concentrated in the transmigration genre we all came for in the first place hahahahha

This is my personal favorite genre and type of story. It has slice of life in it, surrounding the kids and Cale's group, which I love so much. I like the MC's personality too. I love every character in TCF, that's why I enjoyed it very much. I hope everyone can feel the same about it. Don't miss the path to Cale Henituse's slacker life 😊 <<less

I won't say much but this is novel is best I've ever read in my life, the plot, the pacing, the characters, MC's relationship with others, they all are well written. I don't see any plot holes, if you don't like this novel then it's simply because you lack patience and are not meant to read long run novels and simple have different preferences.

Why I love this novel?

I like MC, his character is very intresting, you may think he is your average MC but nope he is not, you'll learn... more>> about him more slowly and slowly and know why he is the kind of person he is right now, people usually define him as tsundere but it's not that simply, he has reasons because of why he acts the way he do.

I love how female characters actually have a character to them, and instead of falling in love with MC they rather admire and respect him, I love how it's not a harem and actually focus on friendship and loyalty. I love how it shows that girls can feel grateful to MC for saving them without falling in love and not all girls fall for their savior.

I love the kids, the kids are the best and are mature for their age but are still innocent. I love how easily MC accepted his position as their father/guardian lol.

I love crown prince and MC's relationship, they are like twins but then are not.

MC doesn't necessarily hide his secrets when he knows it's of no use, I love it because many times in novels they forcefully hide everything when they should not.

I love all the characters and their characteristics, they are all unique in their own way and care for MC.

I love the protect MC squad lmao and I like it because they all have their reasons to care about MC and are not just obsessed over him without any reasons lol.

I like how all of the characters know what suffering is, they all had their share in life and are now happy including MC though he isn't getting his slacker life.

Everything in this story connects with one another, nothing happens just because it happens, everything has a reason behind it.

I like the power Balance here, MC is not op and even though his powers are amazing he has equal amount of drawbacks, so you can say it's very balanced. All the characters are very strong but not beyond levels where it will get boring *cough* solo leveling *cough*

The pace is good, arcs are good and well written, the plot itself is very good, I don't like reading fighting scenes but instead I prefer reading how it will unfold and the strategy behind it, reading fighting scenes is boring to me, that's why it didn't bother me when they didn't elaborate fighting scenes that much.

Overall, it's the best and I'm obsessed. <<less

I don't think I'll ever get bored of reading TCF. I already read the whole thing thrice and I read my favorite parts for at least 6 times each. REALLY! CALE= best protagonist.

Also, Choi Han and Alberu are such good characters. It actually feels kinda weird to me to call them mere "characters" at this point coz they feel so real. Keep at it, Author-Nim :D

[Just some rambling from a frustrated reader...]

Been on and off trying to read this novel for at least 5 or 6 times since 2018 and it gets so boring each time... Unfortunately I can't understand how so many reviews are five stars...

It gets quite repetitive as all the fights doesn't lead to anything at all, we all know MC will survive with no sequela and the same goes for the dragon, magician and swordsman...

After 400 chapters almost nothing have changed... Does his political or business acumen increase after getting recognized... more>> as a national/ continental hero? Does his domain and title gets elevated? Does his proficiency in magic or sword increase? Does he recruit / train soldiers or increase anything at all?

The plot and the MC's personality may sound intriguing, but be warned for he is no tr*sh at all, even though the author "tells" us he is a tr*sh / the MC thinks of himself as a tr*sh, he doesn't "show" us any of it. He is most likely the most active person in the world, scheming behind the scenes, teleporting everywhere, catching familiars, allies and items (as if we are playing a RPG game where the hero party is slowly crawling towards the "demon 'wannabe-god' castle").

The biggest flaw is that the author often "tells" us what will happen through the MC's inner monologue, thereby letting the reader know what will happen 10/20 or even 30 chapters in advance... As the saying goes: "Don't tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass." I guess this is the main reason I stop reading...

On the other hand the most likely reason I come back to this novel is because of Raon's schtiks... The interaction between the characters and the comedy is praiseworthy~ <<less

Honestly, I rated this higher than I wanted to. It's awful, but compared to the sea of tr*sh that is web novels, it's a step above most of them.

Interactions between the MC and others are extremely unnatural. When you remember that Cale is just a South Korean that was transported into this world, the way he acts is just so out of touch with reality. No way someone from SK just calmly accepts everything that happens in the novel. Not even phased by a battlefield or people chopping up... more>> corpses, the smells, etc. No, dude, you're a nerdy Korean that likes to read web novels. No character growth for the MC like you would expect from someone in his shoes, but that's to be expected from Korea. They can't write character growth even if their life depended on it. The only thing they know how to do is make an OP character even more OP. The evidence is in all the tr*shwas and korean novels.

The MC gains followers for vague as hell reasons. Choi Han ends up becoming Cale's loyal follower simply because he fed him (which he didn't even do himself...) The servant that cringed and cowered any time Cale picked something up, suddenly out of nowhere flips a switch and loves the MC. They're all basically along that line. MC treats people like crap 95% of the time, and everyone follows him around like a dog and worships him because he's nice to them once.

Contradictions... contradictions everywhere. "I'm weak, so I'm not doing that." Does it anyways. This novel is filled with this. When the novel isn't constantly shoving MC's motivations (I want to sit on my ass) down your throat every few sentences, he's off doing the exact opposite.

Nobility with no arranged marriage, and no romance in sight? Let me get this straight... his family is filthy rich and we don't hear anything whatsoever about marriage or other nobles trying to get their daughters into his family. I'm seriously suspicious that this author doesn't really know anything at all about nobility. Arranged marriages are a HUGE part of the power game for nobility. Not including it is s*upid.

MC is obviously supposed to be a "calm, cool" type character, but comes off edgy and cringe instead, especially once he gets the power from the dragon corpse.

I could seriously list tons more of why this novel is so bad, but I'll end it here. <<less

I've been reading this since 2018 and I wasn't expecting much initially. I also never left reviews. It's my first time writing one so bear with me.

This novel set my standards in what a good story should be!

FIRST OFF, THE BEGINNING AND THE RECENT VOLUME.

... more>> Like what I've mentioned, I expect TCF to be like any other transmigration korean novels. They were cliches, BUT BOI, THE AUTHOR FOOLED US.

Some negative comments in earlier chapters from fellow readers made me feel appalled since the story hasn't progressed that much to be criticized yet. Those remarks are proven to be wrong as the story progressed.

The story is amazing. The character designs are superb. Especially our young master Cale. Characters are well rounded, some are dymamic and some static. Yet it didn't feel much forced. Instead they became much more real.

I really like every character designs. I admit that I used to feel compassion for edgy characters. But after picking this up again to reread, I realized how chuunibyo I am lol.

Anyway for those who wants to pick this up to read it again just like me, READ IT AGAIN. I WHOLEHEARTEDLY ADVISE YOU TO READ. EVERY. PARAGRAPH. THOROUGHLY.

And for those who wants to read it for the first time, TRY IT. It's immersive, no one-dimensional-unreasonable-vengeful-immature characters. No romance WHICH I REALLY REALLY LOVE ABOUT TCF, no forced parody, no plot holes (as far as I could remember), and THE WHOLE STORY IS WELL PLANNED. DETAILS ARE AMAZING I SWEAR. Lastly, TCF will give you a story you never knew you will love.

I really love TCF. I am not good with words nor a critical person. Take this as a reaction coming from a fellow silent reader. TCF will make you immerse in their fantasy world.

OVERALL:

  • PLOT: 9.5/10
  • NARRATION: 10/10
  • CHARACTERS: 10/10
  • GRAMMATICAL ERRORS: 9.5/10 (some typos and mispelled words here and there still tolerable)
  • Spoiler

RAON, ON, AND HONG'S CUTENESS: 99999999999/10

If u try reading some reviews before reading this, I just wanna say

JUST GO AND READ IT RIGHT NOW!!!

I've just literally created an account just to promote this novel. This novel is the BEST thing happened throughout my entire life. So I wanna share a good thing to others

U'll end up in one of the two things when you try reading up to 50 chapters.
    1. U'll be f*cking hate about the MC, the plot, the author, the whole novel for having repetitive plot, the MC being dumb about his own heroic actions, having no fighting scene, and maybe more.
    1. U'll become a member of CALENISM
I just wanna say it depends on personal taste. U don't know it unless u try it. But for me, I love all of this novel, the MC and other characters' personality, mindest, they say plot is slow-paced but it is a nice pace for me, the author can handle the novel overall cause the novel starts great and it gets better and better from time to time. Some says it has plot holes. I really don't recognize plot holes in this novel. They always reveal or explain it later. Even the trivial things become big later. Some says about literature or author's talent in writing is a bit lame. But it actually easier to read for me. The presentation and the words, the sentences are like daily use and easygoing both for the author and translator. They both lead the readers to easier way. So just try it about 50 to 100 chapters if u were free or bored. This novel is worth trying.

I loved this novel, up till around chpt 380-400. I won't give any specific spoilers, but at a certain point I found my self saying well d@*n its the same as last time. That train of thought lead me to go examine the re-read just to make sure I wasn't being unfair considering I loved this novel till that point. And yeah every arc seems to contain the same elements. Up till 400 at least I gave up on this one after that.

Normally I enjoy stories that flow well above... more>> all else, are fun, and are consistent (considering I like fantasy I just need it to follow its own rules or rules set by the author.) The reason I dropped it even though I loved how fun it was, I just couldn't keep avoiding this novels glaring problem and the very thing I stated as my first priority when choosing a story, the flow. After every important conflict the MC ends in the same state, says the same types of things ect. I guess I ignored it till I just couldn't anymore.

So, when I realized there wouldn't be any further organic growth I gave up on good ol Cale. But I will say I loved this novel till 400. I had a great time reading. I just think the author fell in love with this recipe, but try it out you may like it. I will say though if I had read a different novel for as long as this one and invested that type of time and stopped at this stage I would have regretted even looking at the title but not this one I have even re read... well up till chpt 350-380 at least. <<less

So I've read all chapters up to the most recent one and I love this story to hell and back. As others have said "TCF is really well-planned and well-thought novel.", this is why you should give it a try and not drop it after 10 chapters.

The thing that makes me sad is that people drop this or don't read it because of, call it misconceptions, misunderstandings, or whatever you want.

The meaning of me writing this review is to clear up some misconceptions about this web-novel such as:

1. The main character (Cale Henituse) is s*upid, lazy, OP and uninterested in life.

- In fact, he is really smart and ambitious to live his "slacker life" and the OP'ness will be explained along the way

Spoiler

He has an ability that allows him to remember everything he reads, that is a power he got from the earth before he was thrown into TCF

[collapse]

2. "He is too smart" or "he remembers everything which makes him spoil the story".

-There is a reason why Cale knows the original story "The Birth of a Hero" which will be explained later in the novel and I won't write it bec spoiler... Cale only knows the story up until the 5 volume which is passed quickly around ch 300 and the story won't get boring just bec he knows the events that are about to hit. The fact that he is constantly changing the storyline makes the events unknown to both him and us readers which ends earlier than around ch 300, in fact he changes the storyline the moment he decides to not fight Choi-han.

3. Lack of feelings and emotions from the main character.

- That is Cales style, he shows very subtle signs of emotions, and sometimes it is required to read between the lines to understand or read/see it from the other character's pov (Pint of view).

4. Lack of romance

- Yes, this is not a romance so don't look for that. Instead, engulf yourself in the fluffy family love and the very strong bond between the characters.

5. "It progresses too slow"

- Yes it is slow but if it were rushed we wouldn't understand everything, the arcs are long yes but they are well thought.

Sorry for the rant, but I think it is necessary to at least try to read TCF without any judgmental thoughts or sky-high expectations because it may not be everyone's cup of tea and that is okay. But it is not okay to label this novel as "bad" just because you were too lazy to understand the full meaning of the novel.

Spoiler

So, the author-nim just dropped (in the latest chapter of now ch 645) some hints that point to a slow but stealthy beginning to the end of this story

[collapse]

I absolutely love this story and I hope you will too💜 <<less
