Long Chen, a crippled youth who cannot cultivate, is constantly targeted and bullied by his fellow noble heirs. After a particularly vicious beating, he wakes up and realizes a Pill God’s soul has somehow merged with him, giving him additional memories. Among those memories is the mysterious “Nine Star Hegemon Body Art”, a cultivation technique even he can train in, but its secrets and origin are still a mystery to him. Relying on his improved instincts as he finally begins to cultivate, he realizes a huge conspiracy is underfoot within the Phoenix Cry Empire, one involving his father, the members of the imperial family, and even the emperor himself.

In order to solve the mysteries around him, he must rely on his new alchemy techniques and the powerful but baffling Nine Star Hegemon Body Art. Countless enemies block him as he attempts to climb to the peak of the cultivation world.

His destined fate was to only be a chess piece, but he will not bow to the will of the Heavens.

Yes, I decided to write a review after reading just 18 chapters out of 4500+

Although I want to hope that things get better, I'm not quite sure I can handle much more of this.

So I'm mainly in for weak-to-strong cultivation novels with seeking the dao and all that stuff, unfortunately dao part usually doesn't come until a bit later into the story, so it's just basic cultivation for now. This novel is a bit troublesome:

Spoiler

1 - Arrogant young masters all over the place. I kid you not, it's been just 18 chapters and author already introduced 4 of them (1 already killed by MC after repeated taunting which lead to life-death match (y'know how it goes) 2 are no longer relevant to story (1 beaten and 1 just *poof* outta the story I guess) and 1 is out of MCs 'reach' for now)

2 - Face slapping - after trying "Library of Heavens Path" I noticed I have allergy to it, so that's a problem

3 - Remember that one young master I mentioned who MC already killed? Their fight basically went - dude starting to perform whatever move he does -> MC nonchalantly kicks his ball (presumably his other ball was already absent (eaten by dogs - author says....)) so hard that it goes off from his mouth into the mouth of another arrogant young master... what the actual f*** is going on?!?

4 - He supposedly have memories of pill sovereign - Yet the only technique he knows is actually that cultivation technique, nothing else, what.. pill sovereign literally never had to fight anyone ever? What about alchemy techniques? - so far - nothing, he just up and refined some pills without any training or whatnot

[collapse]

Rated 3/5 because I cl**ked on it before thinking. And some other minor reasons I guess. But in short - wouldn't recommend it unless it's your first chinese novel, or if spoiler section did not bother you. <<less

The novel starts pretty good with a lot of aspects and expectations.

The pace of the story is pretty good and the progress of events keeps you hooked up in a both good way and bad way.

The relationship building in this story is good especially in the initial period then sadly become static and dull especially for harem.

... more>> Although there is a lot of good things about the novel there are two major turn off for me.

firstly there is this constant feeling of irritation and stifle because of repeated s*upidity with out any reason.

Secondly and most hateful for me the mindless endless dragging. Here I am after more than 800 chapter without any essential information or a substantial progress in the grand scheme of things. <<less

Everyone's favorite virg*n lady's man. This series does some things really well. I like a novel that brings the homies up. MC does not forget his friends or his virg*ns wives. He persistently builds people up. This is so rare in this genre. It suffers though with world building. The cultivation mechanics are mostly fine, but the actual world, I find it to be a bit of a bore. My low rating comes from that and sometimes fights are kind of wack.

However, I highly suggest reading for the god mode... more>> face slaps. He makes face slapping a divine art. <<less

Well the novel is quite good, at the start it may look like a copy of ATG but it is definitely different from it. I've read this novel till 3500 chapters, waiting for remaining ones. So I can definitely say it is a good one, nshba has got -well explained fights, a smart MC, good harem, planning and plotting, mc's growth along with its side characters, excellent translation but only till 3000 chapters ?.

What I really like about this novel is MC doesn't abandons his comrades like in other novels,... more>> those who trust him and are brave are able to follow him and grow

Spoiler

like when MC got in trouble with the head academy all the his trusted companion came to save him even if they had to die, later all these companions were assembled by him and were transformed into an army where they all constantly grew powerful with the help of the MC.

.

And also not a single lover of his is abandoned by him, they all are with him from start to finish.

I like all the mysteries whether it is regarding his cultivation or his identity and all the twist and turns that happens in the novel.

And also the comical behaviour of MC like his teasings with his brothers and lovers and his foul mouth against his enemies which made me laugh time to time??.

The only thing which I hate and frustrates me is even though MC is smart he knowingly falls into the traps of his enemy.

Spoiler

he easily loses his cool under the provocation of enemy. And the reason given by the author is that his cultivation technique doesn't allows him to take a step back ??

[collapse]

All in all it is fun to read this novel where u can get action, comedy, romance, brotherhood, evil plots etc etc. <<less

The absolute worst novel I have ever read, the most cliched one as well. The MC is such a pu*sy against anyone with a v*gina and the plot device is horrible plus, every female is stunningly beautiful and immediately falls in love with him.

I'm not far in the story, but I've learned that 'character arcs' are rarer than leprechauns & unicorns. When authors write a story in one way and you've read for a little while, 99% of authors you've seen essentially the full extent of what they have to write. If you're completely satisfied by their style then you're in serious luck, but a lot of the time I read because I'm foolishly optimistic and have hope that things will advance and certain problems will be solved and therefore things will actually... more>> change.

The odds are so ludicrously in the bad guy's favor and the protag is so utterly lacking help that it's just dumb. Everything is set up so the protag's loved ones are guaranteed to be in immediate danger of r*pe and/or death and he will have to rush in, full of emotion and hate to save the day and kill the bad guys. This story is actually a fairly extreme example of this, where the protag has essentially nothing helping him other than his own 'cheat'. The empire he's in a f*cking hellhole, everyone is safe because his dad is fighting invaders nonstop while they're all vicious, ungrateful and evil, bullying his family (makes me wonder what was keeping them from just capturing/killing them before the story even started?).

On the scale of r*peyness, this ranks roughly average. The villains are not all super r*pey, which is nice, but the author still uses the threat of his princess gf getting married off to some evil guy against her will. (It is actually possible to write one of these novels without r*peyness being involved, I've actually read at least 1, I swear!)

Definitely not a novel if you're hoping for a particularly clever/intelligent protagonist. He's not an absolute dumbass but he's not at all impressive on that front. He will inevitably fall into traps and make decisions he regrets.

A few good points:

  • He is pretty good at insulting his enemies.
  • He can be vicious to his enemies. (This occasionally is utterly ludicrous in how comical it is.)
  • His cultivation method is interesting and unique. He himself doesn't understand how it's supposed to work so it's not set-in-stone like most stories.
That's all I've got. I could read farther, but just judging by my past experiences, I fully expect to be disappointed and for the bad aspects of the story to be replicated and never properly get dealt with with any finality. <<less
