Thank you so much for this. I only registered so that I could tell you how much I appreciate your efforts. I love this story! And there's no other way I could get it. And I've never seen a translation group as disciplined and reliable over time as you. Thank you.

If bookworms dream of meeting Mr. Darcy, I on the other hand want to meet my Earl Edgar Ashenbert. The novel does a terrific job of fleshing out this charming, complex, witty, and devoted man. One can't help but swoon over the many touching, heartfelt ways he expresses his boundless love for Lydia, the female protagonist. Lydia will test your patience several times over, what with her ceaseless doubting over the earl's love and the difference between their social standing. But each serves only as an opportunity for the Earl... more>> to prove time and again the extent of his feelings for her.

At times, the books feel formulaic (E & L fight, a new mystery unfolds, E investigates, L investigates behind his back, L gets into trouble, E saves her, L saves him back, mystery is solved, E & L have a little moment together), but the formula WORKS! It makes for a great re-read, if only to relish the wonderfully written dialogues.

tl;dr: I love this novel SO DAMN MUCH! :) <<less

A lot of people probably assume this novel would be very cliche and shoujo-ish, but it’s actually such a well-written story. Though it’s a kinda like a fantasy novel, the way the characters written, each with their own flaws and mishaps, and the way they face obstacles throughout the story, it’s so easy to grow attach to them and watch them grow. The story itself is quite like a thriller, mystery-type novel and it's full of ups and turns. Though it starts at a somewhat slow pace, it's really worth... more>> the read. It's hard not to get caught up in these novels. With such unique characters along with a great plot development, it’s really a shame how underrated this series is. <<less

This was one of my very first Anime next to S.A CLASS. And that when YT was rampant with "TOP BEST SHOJOU", that was how I discover this. I saw that there's a novel translation after a year and I was putting it off since the TR never really got finished. But nonetheless, they still update and I am so thankful for that. This is one of the best romantic LN out there, and hopefully they would finish translating this. Kudos to the team!

I've been following this novel ever since kagedreams first started posting about it back in 2008! It's a very well written novel with a determined heroine who's not OP or dumb or gets out of situations from "just being lucky." The relationship between the main characters develop very well, and not cliched in anyway at all. The characters are well written and are developed properly. I've read ahead on the summaries, and the story development progresses very well! It doesn't devolve into repetitious plot. If you want something sweet, well... more>> written, with a lot of interesting info on celtic faeries, this is the novel for you! *Gai pose* <<less

I'm not very much into light novels but I do read them from time to time. And Hakushaku to Yousei is definitely my all time favorite. It is really a well-written beautiful story. The characters show development each volume and they are deep and very likable. Lydia, unlike many female characters is strong and independent in a way that will make you love her. There are 33 volumes in total but the story never gets boring and it is very fun to see the characters interact in each book. It's... more>> definitely a great read. <<less

The one is one of the major factors of my being attracted to romance. It’s also the reason of my discovery of light novels and their joys. And the translations are finally being continued!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ After watching the anime, I was not satisfied with the plot and started searching for manga which eventually led me to the light novel and consequently the world of light novels. The anime does little justice to the amazing storytelling of the novel. To someone starved for fantasy with mythical creatures, this is a scrumptious... more>> meal indeed, along with much information about all the little creatures humans have ever thought up (are they only thoughts indeed?) <<less

Hakushaku to Yousei is my first light novel, ever. I started reading the manga first, and I loved it, but I needed more, so I watched the anime, but even then I wasn't satisfied, I needed more. It was then I discovered the remarkable world of light novels.

HakuYou is a very well done story, Edgar and Lydia have a very interesting relationship that is not quite like any other I have come across. For one the romance is considerably slow, but it has fun courting in a Victorian-formal kinda way,... more>> and their relationship is based on trust that is slowly built up throughout the novel, but it does have its 'squee!' shoujo moments. Lydia is headstrong and capable of thinking and acting for herself, which is refreshing considering most female leads. Her knowledge of fairies is unrivaled, and she uses it to help people regardless of if they believe her or not, and regardless if she is ostracized because of it. Her companion, Nico is very funny and his relationship with Lydia and Edgar is very amusing at times which adds a little comedy into the mix.
Edgar is really hot, he's mysteri
ous, has a title, and he falls in love first in a hilarious manner. They really need to add a 'dense protagonist' tag because that is something he has a lot of trouble with.

The novel is more mature that most shoujo, less foolish and more realistic to say the least. The plot is very well done and deeply woven into the story. It's got mystery, magic, romance, and nobility in fancy clothes. In addition to a somber and mysterious back story. The story carries over several arcs, typically one per volume, at no point in time does the plot feel stretched out. You can tell it is very well thought out and the author is steadily working towards a predetermined goal. It has 33 volumes, a few of which are collections of short stories featuring the characters. You will love it. Read.
Btw, Raven and Nico are the best together. <<less

The first light novel series I ever read, and what an absolute gem!!! Also the one that set my standards too high for all romantic light novels thereafter because I keep comparing all the couples to Lydia and Edgar's romance and relationship development, haha~

One of my most favorite novel. It contains just the right balance of fantasy, mystery, adventure, and romance. Both main characters have limited power so they have to put a lot of effort to overcome problems. Development of relationship between them is just fascinating. Most supporting characters are lovely (some are to be hated, of cause). I would recommend this story to everyone, especially those who love fantasy and romance.

I started with anime, manga, and then novel. Love all versions! I really appreciate the translator group for their efforts. Hopefully... more>> I could follow this story till the end. <<less

Just discovered this site and the translations for this series. I have been wanting to read it for years, since I first saw the anime and discovered it was based on a light novel series. At the time only the unfinished manga was available. Thank you so much for translating this wonderful work. ≪3

Finished 2 books, noticed 30 left... Ugh. It's a long ride.
I have not much to say other than I like couples with absolute trust between them. This couple here didn't have that. I checked the other volumes and skimmed a little but I see that there was not much change. The mistrust was still there. Overall no other character did click with me either.
Not a bad story but I felt like I wasn't the target audience.
I might continue from 3rd book after a while. Maybe... more>> when I have nothing to read. Dropped for now. <<less

I've been into this light novel for 4 years. This is the first time I've ever had this feeling when reading light novels. I wait for each chapter no matter how long it takes. Although this is a shoujo series, it is extremely amazing. Edgar- male main character- is a unique kind of character with much inner hurts. He is not only gentle and smart but also cruel and narrow-minded. However, once I understand what he had suffered I'm getting fond of him. Besides, I really like Lydia as well... more>> as her ability to communicate with faes. Lydia and Edgar is definitely my favorite couple ever! I have no ideas why this series is not popular in international fans but this was a big hit in Japan! It's worth reading! <<less

This love story is my most ideal love story of all time! I like how ms. Tani described Edgar as handsome and very daring guy. I like how he does things. Also, I like Lydia who is very stubborn girl. She makes things harder for Edgar. Even though Lydia doesn't easily fell for Edgar's tricks, Edgar is very patient to Lydia making him more look gentleman. For me, this is my first love novel! I fell in love with all the characters. Everything about Edgar and Lydia, I love them.... more>> I love how Edgar teased Lydia and how I love Lydia get angry at Edgar. I hope that everyone will try to read and never put it down. <<less
