ExR’s summary:

An average, ordinary university student had his first life burned away in a painful death from a fire, causing him to transmigrate into a prince of another universe. However, never did he expected that his younger brother, who he fiercely protected and ultimately brought to the throne, would be the one to betray him. Upon being on the brink of death after suffering three years of torture, he was thrown into a river.

Scarred physically and mentally, he ended up being washed up at an eccentric yet peaceful place he had never heard of before. Having nowhere to go, he began working as a helper in the government office, apathetic about his life.

Will he be able to heal from his traumas and rediscover the beauty of life?

Tldr: A healing story of a transmigrator who slowly recovers from his trauma, finding happiness and fluffy romance in a strange yet peaceful place.

Author’s summary:

An average, normal university student transmigrates into the royal family in another world, where he becomes one of the successors of the throne. Life in the palace is inevitably difficult though, what with all the scheming enemies around him. This man’s only wish in this world is to be able to protect his “younger brother,” and for that, he’ll do anything–whether by hook or by crook–to ensure his brother’s safety and have him succeed the throne.

The man never once expected, though, that the person whom he swears to protect would be the one to stab him in the back. He got locked in a dungeon where he was tortured for three years. And when he was on the brink of death, his body was thrown away into the river.

When he wakes up, he finds himself in an eccentric and peaceful place, where everyone is suspiciously more than what they seem…

I was surprised.

I wasn't hopping for much more than a little BL story and it gave me just what I wanted.

Reading the synospsis I was thinking that it would be some kind of revenge story where the protagonist will fight back for the throne but... Nope. Not at all, and it's increadibly refreshing! The story is way more based on the fact of finding happiness than some epic future king's story.

Thinking back at it I was surprised to not remembering any plot thing, no vilains, no objetif, no MC guffin.... more>> The fact is that it's the same type of scenario as My neighbour Totoro, just feels. This kind of story are kind of hard to read at first but it end up beiing way more enjoyable than some other reincarnation Wuxia.

In the end I don't think that this story can be enjoyed by everyone but if you feel a little melancholic, maybe it's the right time to start it :) <<less

Ah, really the best. Binge read it in two days and fell in love easily. I love everything about thisㅡ the peaceful life in Guang Tian was such a treat. I love stories with family-love feeling, and every people in the community was so lovable. Both the MC and the ML are really great characters. The MC is really adorable, very smart, so pure, deserving of love and just! someone! people! can't resist wanting to shower with love. The ML is probably the kindest ... more>>

. I'm.. crying.. this story has given me the emotions I didn't have in this hell of a month. It just have the right amount of fluff and angst that makes me weak (and spice wink) ㅠ ㅁ ㅠ)))

Kudos to the translators too, they did such a great job. The way they conveyed the emotions of the characters was honestly sooo goood.

Nan Ge Er's past was... God.. I can already feel tears in my eyes as I write this why am I so weak ㅠ ㅁ ㅠ))) Despite being a fictional character, I just can't help but cry whenever I try to imagine how hard it must be for him. During the scene where he completely let loose all of his pent up emotions after seeing Mo Shu's carefree way of killing lives, I.. just couldn't hold it in anymore and cried so much. He suffered a lot yet he's developed into such a mature character and honestly I just want to hug him so much.

I recommend this to everyone looking to have a good read. It's both very relaxing but very emotional. Simple yet very deep. hsfhfbdjsjns I just love it so much. <<less

I binge read it in a day. A jewel about the bonds you form with people that care and want you to heal, tenderly picking up the pieces left of you that others threw away and carefully putting them together, stronger than before. The romance is sweet and caring, the comedy is well placed and it placates the drama behind very well. A must read!

This is a short novel and a quick read. There is no revenge, face slapping the enemy as the focus is more on the inner healing of the MC.

It is not a fast paced novel but more a day to day life with various characters interacting with our protagonists and how they get to live peacefully in this peculiar village. The genre is: hurt/comfort.

This is a slow burn romance which I loved since our MC had to heal himself before anything. The transmigration has no such impact on the story... more>> itself and I think could have been omitted.

I did not give it 5 stars because I felt that the plot twist near the end pertaining to the ML's persona was a little out of place since the focus of the story was more on healing physically and mentally.

Spoiler

The ML's violent tendencies and killing innocent people that were not of his village was shocking and I disliked that it was tolerated due to his upbringing. After being tortured for three years, it is doubtful that a person will stay and love such a man.

Too slow and boring. In terms of plot, there is almost none. If no plot, then focus on character development right? I feel like if the MC was a transmigrator and then managed to be born into the royal family and scheme his way to the top, he would have a more interesting personality, even if he was tortured for 3 years. He would feel resentment or anger or something, but our MC just accepts it all and goes lalala and moves on with is life??? I did not understand... more>> that as it does not seem to fit in with what he has done in the past. He is too childish and not very smart...

Also why does everyone love him? I dont see why except for the MC halo. <<less

Spring Trees and Sunset Clouds has to be one of my favorite novels that really resonated with me and left a lasting impression. The writing style was super engaging and evocative. The translation was super smooth and tastefully done and didn't detract from my enjoyment of the novel like many other translated novels do. The plot greatly balances humor and emotions with many surprises, twists and turns at every corner that continue to greatly deepen and build up the emotional impact of the story. Most importantly for me, the characters... more>> are so lovable, intriguing, and yet terrifying at the same time. I fell in love with Nan Ge Er instantly because he was such a lovable, relatable, complex, and very much so an unforgettable character for me. It's a novel of being hurt and damaged by the person closest to you and then finding that last ray of light towards the road to recovery and life full of passion.

The MC is smart, introverted and has a tender heart while the ML is passionate and can be quite extreme.

Their personalities complement each other and it was lovely to see their relationship grow. Guang Tian was a special place and also full of talented, loving people. The MC was lucky to have been brought there by fate.

As always, great... more>> quality translation from Exiled Rebels team. Kudos! <<less

A really excellent short novel, written with a dry voice, peppered with unexpected lyricism, and fleshed out with characters I found compelling and memorable. I had no problem with the back end of the book, but then again, I'm older than dirt, and life experience has made me believe all things come with price-tags, either hidden or in full view. Thus, the plot turn that pulled others out of this novel only brought me in tighter. I really wish I could find more of Wei Liang's work in English; I... more>> would love to read more of her/his work. <<less

This one is unique.

MC didn't pursue revenge like usual MC. He didn't also walk away to catch someone's attention since he was considered to be dead.

Lesson is that in Ancient Times, you cannot really trust anyone inside the palace even if its your own blood relative since they are most likely the one who wanted you dead the most. MC didn't know or understand it so he ended up like living dead.

He found that the place he went into after drifting into the water is quite unusual but didn't... more>> asked anything. I didn't find anything that complement MC and ML to be in a relationship but it's alright since ML is ruthless to himself and others but not to MC. It's not ML choice to be that way but the environment he live did.

Anyway, this is quite healing. Like drifters who wander the world and end up with nothing wanted to heal oneself. <<less

Aweeeeee... just 54 chapters?!?!?!? *sigh*

The first part is a very short narrative story of what had happened to our MC, some sort of like a summary when he transmigrated to the royal family and what happened after that. The main story really starts when he was already in Guang Tian County.

I really love how everyone treated our MC in GT, people are so accepting, although they are gossipy. lol It's alike a dream place actually where OP people live together like regular folks minding their lives.

I love our CP's interaction,... more>> the ML's very doting and respects our MC very much, but don't get me wrong he's not your typical goody ML, he's bloodthirsty actually! lol MC's journey to healing is beautiful, although he experienced too much hardship in the hand of his brother, he was never vengeful instead leaving everything to karma.

Spoiler

Only thing that makes me sad is the back story of our protagonists. Makes me cry really, my heart hurts for both of them. Life is so hard for both of them. The ML not knowing that his mother is still alive and beside him all this time, hurts my poor heart.

[collapse]

Thank goodness they met each other and they helped each other to heal slowly. The inner thoughts of the main MC's hilarious. lol. I just love how they love and care for each other.

I love the story simply because it's different although cliche, I can't explain it well, but it makes you wanna read it until the end. <<less

★★★★☆ [4/5 stars]

This might not be the best novels out there, but this definitely has a unique charm that can entice readers. This is such a satisfying slice of life novel that focuses more on healing one's soul over drowning yourself in hatred and revenge. The premise of Nan Ge Er's (MC) story has the tendency to revolve around dog blood dramas because of the betrayals, facing depression and such, but the route of the plot unexpectedly went to the direction of taking the relieving way to live. Xiao Nan... more>> finally found the people who really cares about him sincerely and the place where he really belongs, a place full of mysteries but strangely made him feel the contentment he never felt. This story really brought me so much warmth that I never expected I'd received when I started this. There were heartaches here in there sprinkled in the story but it was there to emphasize the comfort and sense of belonging that Xiao Nan achieved in that special place.

This novel is so heartbreaking and so heartwarming at the same time. I was on the verge of crying multiple times and I even thought this would give a painful ending, but I'm glad that all is well. This is a fast read with only 54 chapters and personally, it's really worth the read. I'm not depressed myself but I think I would recommend it to those who are. This has some really good lines about persuading someone to live and someone trying to continue living persistently after experiencing an excruciating life. A really great read! I would actually recommend this to anyone! <<less

A breath of fresh air!

Reading this novel brought a smile to my face. Surprisingly, it is so healing to see the MC raising chicken, running a side business, managing household finance, and becoming infamous as the target for local gossip LOL.

The romance is built up slowly and organically. The confession scene was my favorite, I couldn't help smiling ear to ear. The ML is a completely doting & devoted fool when it comes to MC. There are so many endearing moments between MC & ML, it totally satisfies my... more>> need for romance.

That said, there are heavy moments, as MC overcoming his trauma, and slowly finding his will to live. The last part broke my heart, especially since it is so unexpected. The twist of

feels inconsistent with his character and detracts from my overall enjoyment of the novel.

STSC is still ultimately one of my fav danmei novels, especially as a comfort read whenever I need something warm and healing.

Fav Quotes

"Having a place that could make him curl his lips up whenever he thought about it was enough for him. No matter how much he suffered outside, he would feel his heart warming up whenever he thought of that simple, crude place. Such a place was good enough. People normally called that –home."

"Good and bad, joy and anguish, poverty and glory; I've tried them all. That is also precisely why I can let my past go. In a human's lifetime, desire, loneliness, and grief are all a misery; even bliss will turn into misery in the end. So much hardships. But now, I only wish I can live my life peacefully; that is enough." <<less

This novel was really lovely to read as a PTSD person.

The author gives an emotional depth to the losses which left the protagonist shattered.

Yes, this is a novel about healing but it also gives a chance for the MC to understand others in a way that he acknowledges would have been impossible without his experiences of despair.

The world he lives in is mysterious and choosing to hold safe that secret world is a new chance for the MC to belong to a living world. Community is also absolutely a part... more>> of the healing process for this MC

There are unexpected sides to the ML, but everyone in this world hides their scars. Sometimes we hide them from even ourselves.

It is a really lovely mystery to experience. <<less

while I finished reading this I'm sad we only have 54 chapters 😭 I would love to see 500 more chapters of our nan ge er losing his mind to mo shu's antics :>. This novel was a beautiful, refreshing and amazing read. The wisdom behind the words, finding the reason to keep on living and to be in love. Truly one of the best danmei novels if you love light angst and domestic fluff :)

Overall Rating:4.5

The well-explained inner struggles of the main character made me sympathize with him, I even felt frustrated when he was being teased. Also the constant bickering of MC and ML was very endearing. The relationship development was perfectly paced and not rushed.

Concerning the last 1/3 of the novel some complained about, I also felt uncomfortable while reading it, but for different reasons. Despite all of them being just human, it seems that the people from the village, and especially the ML, have a superiority complex bordering on psychotics. Granted,... more>> some parts seemed sudden, but just keep in mind there's benefit to treating the events as symbolic, not literal.
Understandably, some things don't make too much sense, even when explained, but keep in mind the crux of the story is not about finding answers to the mysteries surrounding the island. This story is ultimately about a person's journey towards healing after hardship, struggling with depression, surviving through deep emotional betrayals, and trying to understand what it means to be human. <<less

Perfect length and somehow manages to fit a whole lot into half the chapter length of other stories I've read. Adorable main couple, and all the little plot threads are pretty much wrapped up.

Do I want more? YES. But like with candy and cheesecake, more isn't always a good thing. And this author knows when to wrap things up and not overstay their welcome.

This is definitely a binge worthy novel. It was very easygoing, with well created characters and cute scenery.

I, personally, really liked the MC. His way of thinking was very down to earth, and he continued on with his life without getting too affected by others. And I really don't enjoy the common misconception that when the bottom is smaller, he has to be weak and frail emotionally or mentally, and this is something the novel did not contain. He also wasn't portrayed as overly cute or good looking, and overall... more>> the character felt very real. Heheh I would definitely want to be his friend :))

The ML was a little weird, but at the same time in a good way? Hehe, but that plot twist caught be off guard. But the way he cared and respected the MC was very heartwarming and adorable.

While the story itself wasn't over the top, and actually quite casual, the mysteries behind the city and the people's identity gave the novel more depth and intrigue. The character developments and the calming descriptions of the MC new day-to-day life made me hooked, and I recommend it a lot! <<less

Aah this is so good! I don't even know why I didn't click on this earlier! Every single chapter was a good read, leaving me with a warm fuzzy feeling. Unlike many rural living slice of life, this wasn't boring at all, and I feel like the pacing is great (thouhg there were small time skips). I totally recommend this novel. The mc’s past made me cry my eyes out. He didn’t deserve it. As a person who enjoys reading revenge stories, I really wished the MC would torture the people who hurt him (trying to avoid spoilers 101), but I’m quite satisfied of how it turned out in the end. If our MC is happy then I’m happy
