Actual rating is 4.5.

The story is very politically driven, and the romance is very sparse. Still a story inside a video game, so think of the beginning chapters as the tutorial stage of a empire-building game while the MC sets up the foundations. The plot picks up after chapter 8 or 9, and goes detail into the economic and political standpoint of ruling a fiefdom.

Again, romance is pretty sparse. Here and there there's little and subtle details about their relationships, which is nice if you're more into the action.

I don't... more>> like the ending. It's abrupt, such a plot twist, and only leaves you less than half a chapter to recover from the whiplash. Some characters are hardly ever fleshed out as much (given that the story is very centric around the MC) and some motivations and plot lines don't really make sense since it's only to build the MC's character and reputation. <<less

The story is typical of an isekai, though it lacks a lot of depth. All the characters are relatively shallow, in terms of development and growth, though there is evidence of some of that happening. Complex dilemmas are summarized in a way that we can get a hint of what is going on while keeping the story very light-hearted. Villans are very straight-forward as well.

The story is written in a non-fantasy medieval setting. Plot developments within the setting are plausible, but unlikely. For instance, MC's reforms are passed with little... more>> to no resistance, and the MC just happens to be surrounded by talented characters to assist her in whatever developments she wants. This is highly unlikely, given standards of technological development in the country. The aforementioned flaws also happen to be common tropes within the isekai genre, and the author has held faithfully to what trope-lovers can expect and love, without any major plot holes. The story presents itself in a way that is still coherent and logical, without any convoluted shoe-horning. For readers with an understanding of common isekai tropes, and who are willing to suspend a bit of belief to enjoy the piece of work within those tropes, the story presented is still enjoyable.

This does not mean that the plot is too shallow to enjoy. In fact, there is a reasonable number of difficulties that present themselves and challenge characters that make this a satisfying read, with its own intense sections as well. However, readers who like deep and complex plots and multi-dimentional characters (like Joy of Life, for instance,) might find it slightly simplistic.

This novel is recommended for readers who like the typical style of japanese isekai, with a thick helping of MC aura, yet with a coherent, reasonable and logical plot. (And of course who does not mind the characters around the MC being a little bit more OP). In conclusion, its a sterotypical but enjoyable read about a kingdom-building, non-fantasy isekai, and can be consideredone of the better representations within the genre. <<less

I really enjoyed this. Although I did want a little bit more of Romance since I'm tr*sh for Romance stuff, I think that it was still well-handled and compromised what it had lacked, for me in Romance, it's plot. I also really like how much thought they put into the politics and economics of things, although I was too dumb and not knowledgeable about those stuff.

Plus I also personally like how the characters were written. I can sort of understand why people think of Iris as a Mary sue since... more>> she's so amazing (and nearly perfect because of the amount of stuff she knows) but I personally thought that she wasn't PERFEFCT perfect. She had some problems here and there with how she thinks of herself, her past behaviours for bullying Yuri (although I still dislike Yuri for getting in the way of someone who already was engaged but I mean, Ed's just a plain dumb a**hole) and a couple of other things I forgot (oof). The people around her were also pretty cool, not much more to say about that (of course besides the bad ones)

  1. All in all, it was a pretty good read. Not the best, but definitely one of the good finds in here. I really liked it.

Overall I really enjoyed this, though the ending could’ve been executed a bit better, since it seemed a bit rushed.

Great novel in my opinion- I continued on from where the manga was last updated which I believe was around chapter 40. I highly recommend as the lead is a strong female who uses common sense (i know how rare, right?) instead of leading with her heart- hence the title of the novel. The love interest is amazing as well as the other supporting characters. If you’d like a better visual understanding of what the characters look like I highly recommend reading the manga aswell.

my only issue is that the... more>> server that provides the chapters always lags and disconnects me from the website- I don’t know if anyone else experiences this issue but it is pretty annoying. Other than that everything is great. <<less

A heavy business management (well, almost all abt bank tax and financial stuff is totally a mumbo jumbo for me T T)

More to how a salary woman living her reborn life as a duke daughter and implement her knowledge to do business and eventually the modern salary woman is no where, she's already merging as a human from an isekai.

A good read imo

I'm very picky when it comes to reading materials. I don't like weak characterizations, unnatural conversations, telling, not showing, bad plot flow. All of which are very much abundant in mangas, LNs, and WNs. I've been reading it my whole life.

You can't imagine how happy I was to have found this WN. It's got politics, it's got governance, it's got amazing character developments, and the politics, and economy, the romance isn't shitty af, reliable side characters, the world building. The ideas within the novel, whether political, economical, religious, are all... more>> presented through the characters, so down to earth. Where else do I find that in a WN?

I get absolutely giddy like a child whenever there's an update. When you're older, it happens very occasionally.

Anyhow, give this a read and mayhaps buy it from Amazon to support the author (s?) and artists. (Which I have done and encourage you to support your favorite authors and artists.)

We deserve amazing content like this. <<less

I have been reading the chapters in order as best as I can but due to them being so mixed up I haven't been able to keep track of my progress very well. My main question is still What happened to Yuri? If it has happened yet.

The story centers around politics, commerce, and a small dose of romance, mixed with schemes and some military.

I really love the MC, Iris, despite that I don't really like the politics and military explanations in the book. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE politics and military, but just feel like in CSDD, they have been over-simplified or not properly illustrated sometimes.

Elegant, intelligent, capable, workaholic, enduring, and mentally tough...I just love her, especially in the stage where the story happens, that women don't have a place in the ruling... more>> class.
There are a few logical lapses here and there, but overall they are not too bad.

But there is just this one BIG problem with the battle over the throne between the two princes. Just so you know, this is a huge part of the whole story, and I think the author does not properly make good sense of it. Here is why:

Spoiler

It is just too obvious from the very beginning that the first prince is gonna win no matter what. The first prince has had the backing of military the whole time. Moreover, he has tight connections with the knight corps, which serves as guards for the royals, in other words, the perfect pawns for a coup in the worst scenario. Other than that, he earned support from the church and the Armenia family (the MC's family) in the early stages; this means that his rule will be legitimate as it is backed up by the church, and his control over the nobles will be tight, as the prime minister's family is on his side. Honestly, the second prince never had a chance; and that political battle over the throne, to me, doesn't really have much intensity.

[collapse]

Spoiler

Apparently, the MC's side has been too powerful from the very beginning; and yet the methods adopted by the second prince faction (the villains), though despicable, are just too s*upid. The author tried hard to put MC in disadvantage in the beginning, but it obviously does not make sense, given her family's overwhelming political, financial, and military influence.

Another problem is that the author does not actually put too much thought in to the balance between the two prince. I get it that the second prince faction is full of greedy, lazy, incompetent nobles, and the first prince side's are all capable, and that it is important to leave such strong impression to us readers. But at least you have to save some big shots for the the second prince, just to make it seem more balanced. The pope who favors the second prince, due to his s*upidity, got knocked out of the picture early. And then... NOBODY else in his faction has any administrative power in the capital. HOW does he actually come on top when the most he can do is just gossiping? I kept asking myself who is actually calling shots in the capital the whole time. The Dowager Queen is said to have the power only second to the King, and she favors the first prince, but other than giving a feel helping hands to Iris... she does NOTHING.

[collapse]

But still, I like the tension between Iris and Yuri, and how Iris responds each time Yuri/Ed/Queen Ellia picks on her.

Spoiler

I literally cheered when Yuri cracks in jail.

Anyway it's not a bad novel, it has good romance and a great plot, I loved how this novel showed all of the dirty things that happen on politics and such. But when something is unrealistic enough to make you "huh?" I feel like that's a minus, at least on this kind of novel, if it was one of those completely fantasy not serious novels than I wouldn't bat an eye, but when a "serious" novel like this uses something like one of it's supporting pillars it gives me mixed emotions. <<less

I remember stumbling upon this two years ago. The story and execution were interesting. I really liked the main character Iris and I thought she was very mature in how she dealt with her problems. It was my first time reading a "villainess noble girl" novel, so needless to say I was hooked. The only problem was that multiple groups picked this project up, so it was hard to follow the releases sometimes. Then for a while a certain group became the only group translating it and I have to... more>> tell you, the translations were all over the place. I couldn't go one paragraph without seeing a grammar mistake or just poor sentence structure/phrasing. Granted, since they were the only ones translating the novel at that time, I tried to power through the chapters, but in the end I stopped reading.

It looks like the translations have improved so I might check the novel again. <<less

The story it self is pretty fine but I wouldn't recommend this for those who are pricky bout the translation. If you do want to read it, the translations done till 189 are pretty solid.

If you don't put much focus on the trans then it might be a story for you to read if you like this kind of story, although the villainess is missing the 'villain' part and most focus are on 'country development' by the MC.

For those who missed the description above and hoped for fast paced romance... more>> plot. Guys this isn't it. <<less

and a Marquis traitor). Each time the MC faces oppression from SPF, she peels away her Mary Sue aura and becomes more pragmatic. Her character growth is especially stimulated by the general toxicity of noble society, and so she has to make measures beyond cause and effect.

Edit: Earlier I made a harsh opinion on the translations, however, I recently learned what MTL and I have a feeling it was used in some of the chapters. Thankfully the comment section is full of people who are either good at interpreting MTL, or memorized the story so far; even the grammar police are a godsend. <<less

The story was great till the after appeared of the 1st prince, the drama too much for me to handle & the direction of the story doesn't make sense to me.

Spoiler

Even after all the great things she did for her territory she can't get engaged to the 1st prince since she was engaged to the 2nd prince long time ago. If her brother who was his friend can become a right man for the 1st prince and a future prime minister with small achievement comparing to her whose catch the 1st prince section eyes to get her support and the threatening of the 2nd queen, so why can't she the 1st bride to be?!. Also the idea that she do all the great thing for her territory only and she think all her people are the territory people, why can't she be queen that work for all the kingdom people with the her best pair the 1st prince? Or all the queen job is to be a wife for the king and attending tea parties. The author went to put the idea of changing the county politics but this idea is confusing if there no problem for women to work as minister and ruler, why the chapter foe the princess feel like she in a hopeless situation to work for this country. Lastly the drama of the new enemy is boring for me to read.

Not at all like a typical reincarnated villainous story. The story starts after the premise of the game. Characters are fleshed out and each clearly have their own weaknesses and strengths. The mc's ideas and improvements for her territory are intricate and interesting to read.

A lot of the mc's reincarnated knowledge that she uses to make the product line for her company is totally unrealistic. Translations for Common Sense of a Duke's Daughter are inconsistent and there are many duplicated chapters translated by different people since so many sites have... more>> picked up and dropped this story.

All in all I really love this story (even though I get frustrated over all the sites and difficulty I've had to just read this) <<less

I really liked this one, at first I'm not gonna lie I got a bit confused but then I thought this story is great, the fact iris don't know the what's gonna happen next since she reincarnated at the last part she knew of the game is interesting. Also I read some comments saying this was bad and she was overpowered, I don't think that's the case, just because her job before was doing others taxes don't say that's all she knew it's like saying I'm a waitress and... more>> that's all I know, we all got hobbies and iris discovering ways to make chocolate I learned chocolate comes from cacao in 4th grade, is she over powered by knowing what I knew in 4th grade? Um no. It's good that she is smart and some said she had no enemies they all loved her, not really, her enemies were big and did lots of harm but by her using her head made it pass through it. She also falls for someone she can't have because of their positions, and some big enemy appeared that says he loves her but he seems like a sadistic Prince to me who wants all her love ones dead and wants to be all she has, idk how she gonna get through This Prince from acacia since I'm only on chapter 233 but its getting better and more difficult for iris. This is a historical, economical, romance and political story if you don't like that, then don't read, dont ever give a bad review to something you read only a couple chapters to, and most important I believe the translators do a great job, my favorite one is Djurassico idk if I spelled it right but he or she is really good. <<less

It has an interesting story, the girl reincarnated and merged within a noble girl called Iris who is an otome villainess, she is humiliated in front of others for the bad things that she did and she "struggles" because she is a duke's daughter so she brought shame to her family and she loses her standing in the noble society. She uses her memory from her previous life, creates a company etc etc... So far it's good.

The problem is that there are a lot of things that are hard to... more>> understand and there are some inconsistencies. The first thing is how can people still support her and sympathize with her? well, I understood it after 40+ chapters after someone in the novel explained so all is good but still, I was a bit lost at the beginning.

The second thing is that at some point in time, I was like "what the heck was her job in her previous life?" although she presented her job at the beginning, sometimes, you can be dubious if she didn't have 4 or 5 jobs at the same time... while I can understand that some people DO make their own conditionner/shampooing, and some people DO make their own chocolates (so it makes some sense that she can introduce all these and start a business with these things), but how can she know how to deal with territory management or how a bank works? How can she know about laws, reforms and all, and convince people in such a short time to change their laws? And because she knows aaaaall these, she accomplishes things too easily. Well this is a problem that is in most of the isekai novel involving politics/economy so it's not like it's new but still... And most importantly, how come she has the time to deal with all of them at the same time?? I mean she is doing too many things, it's hard to understand how she manages her time...

The last and the most important problem is that the people against her always have bad personnalities or are just foolish, and the fact that Iris was really kind even before they "merged"... it's kind of like the roles are reversed... Iris is supposed to be the villainess but she has an unexpectedly good heart. Her ex-fiance is unexpectedly foolish, and has such a big pride and such a bad personnality, even though he is supposed to be an ideal prince in the game.
Spoiler

Yuri who was the female protagonnist in the game being such a manipulator and such a b*tch

Nonetheless, even with these problems, it's a good novel: the plots are interesting, the pace is good and the fact that they skip some days sometimes don't let you feel bored.

A bit different from your common isekai novels. I'll try to refrain from spoilers.

The story is pretty good, the MC slowly develops her fief using her previous life's knowledge as a tax accountant. She pushes reforms aggressively and the fief develops smoothly. There are frequent time skips as well; reducing detail but progresses the story well, over matters deemed trivial.

The story does lack a concrete villain even up to the chapter I am currently at. The villain of the MC is depicted as a certain group, a country's actions, and... more>> other nobles so it is hard to say who is the main antagonist. They use the lack of clarity regarding this to effectively etch out parts of the story.

The side characters do not have much depth in early volumes, they are usually loyal to the MC and early on they usually are in shock and awe of MC. Later on, you'll see more excerpts and chapters about side characters POV and their development.

Essentially the biggest flaw in the novel for me is the translation. Japtem released clear translations while the next few translation teams did their best there were definitely names of characters, tenses, and clarity lost or mixed up. Also at the time of reading this, shirotranslations is down so it was difficult to hunt down those chapters unless you go to an aggregate site or access it through google cache.

Personally, I hope new readers and old alike read this novel to its current chapter. It is definitely a good read if you don't standardize your ideas on how novels are written. <<less
