Kim Dokja does not consider himself the protagonist of his own life. Befitting the name his parents gave him, he is a solitary person whose sole hobby is reading web novels. For over a decade, he has lived vicariously through Yu Junghyeok, the main character of the web novel Three Ways to Survive the Apocalypse (TWSA).

Through Junghyeok, Dokja has experienced secondhand the trials of repeatedly regressing in time, in search of an end to life-threatening “scenarios” that force people to act out narratives for the amus**ent of god-like “Constellations.”

After reading 3,149 chapters—long after all other readers lost interest—Dokja finally resigns himself to the story ending. However, he receives an enigmatic message from the author, stating that the story will soon be monetized, before his surroundings suddenly go dark.

He swiftly realizes that fiction has become reality and he is now living through TWSA. Although he is the singular omniscient reader of the events yet to come, his success in the scenarios is not guaranteed—but perhaps his advantage will empower him to step into the protagonist role that never suited him before.

summary: Ordinary office worker Kim Dokja is s**ked into his favourite novel into a Twitch Streamed Apocalypse Death Game and fighting to survive, protect the people he's gathered, and support the time-looping protagonist of the novel both physically and emotionally. The apocalypse's viewers are "constellations", who sponsor the people locked in this death game (referred to as "incarnations") in order to obtain new Stories, which are used to reinforce their existence.

The way the setting interlocks with the main character's emotional baggage is 90% of the appeal; the novel is an... more>> unstoppably aggressive character study of Kim Dokja, gaining more definition as you go along. Around chapter 80~100, the author starts paying far more attention to the overall story and its supporting cast, though, and both the character meta and the quality of the novel is intensified. That isn't to say it "gets good" around then; it's more like the things good about it become more diverse, and it becomes All I Can Think About, Oh God, This Novel Is 90% Of My Personality Now.

A word of warning; the first 24 (or if your patience with ruthless protagonists is nonexistent, 36) chapters are really, really crusty. Kim Dokja is a man Made Of Trauma, and he needs time to shake off years and years of fatalism and pessimism, but Sing-Shong didn't seem to have the skill to write out this mentality properly? And so it ends up as a sort of "black-bellied ruthless badass with no empathy and an OP skill in the apocalypse" story, which severely augments certain design flaws in how Sing-Shong constructed the novel (Kim Dokja's future knowledge making the problem-solving extremely basic "well I know how to fix it so here I go fixing it with a thingy I know about"). I actually dropped the series because it was just some jerk with an OP ability just casually racking up cool stuff with his future knowledge in an unsatisfying way. Then I kept reading and saw the face of god. The first 25 (60 on naver) chapters being free in Korean is a show of kindness because making people pay to read that opener would have been an act of cruelty. I would give Sing-Shong my life savings where I am now.

Warning, the appeal isn't universal: If you're reading this for things like problem-solving & [traditional] storytelling, you're not going to be satisfied. This novel is firmly wrapped up in its characters and setting, and doesn't pay much attention to the integrity of a linear plot. While STORY events are meticulously defined and foreshadowed 100 chapters in advance, resolutions to conflicts are often sudden, thus the frustration with "asspulls". The main appeal is the delight of reading how other characters react, and the repercussions of his actions. Thankfully, nothing he does comes without a price, and he racks up prices like a shopping spree in Despair Ikea, finally notices he's doomed himself with his cart full of misery, and thinks "well, I can probably work through this with a little elbow grease" and then adds 3 more Gurauntees Of His Death. It's infuriating. I love him.

... And for those with certain biases: The level of detail and care put into Kim Dokja's bond with the protagonist of the novel is leagues above most romances I've read, and I read a lot of romance. Calling it "bromance" feels too disrespectful to how tightly they're wound up in each other's emotional baggage. It's shipbait-y at points, presumably because the readers have read enough garbage romance stories that two characters being actually compatible as people gave them a shot of raw adrenalin, but like... if you'll feed me I'll eat?? <<less

The concept, the plot, the characters are all well written (at least, to me it feels that way)

I like how the MC wasn’t the strongest, but he was a good man who’s loyal and trying his best. The protagonist who was the strongest also had flaws, and he gradually accept the MC’s help.

All the characters were growing along the way, even the constellation would become more and more emotionally invested in the MC.

Since the characters were quite many, if I didn’t read in a while, I often forgot who’s... more>> who. But it was easily remembered after a few chapters, since each one had different personalities and unique styles.

The beginning was a bit rough, but it's gotten fantastic over the last couple arcs. The author is very good at writing compelling side characters, as well as using the RPG-like mechanics of the story to support the narrative. Both of those are significant challenges, and the author deserves credit for executing on them so well.

I really love the constellation system this novel uses, it has a very fate vibe to it. Other than that though, it's kinda more of the same rpg system novel with an MC that's basically a returnee, with a twist. Overall though, it's still quite interesting to read, and very enjoyable. Also, the plot is not super obvious like it is with other novels in the same genre

I like the MC a lot, and the way how this apocalypse world is very different than the rest, the MC Dokja has been living a mundane life like a majority of this world, but one of his hobbies is reading web novels like us readers, and he's been reading this unpopular web-novel, and he was the only person who kept reading until the end but not the epilogue, the day the author released the last chapter his normal life ended and his world turned like the world in the... more>> web-novel, he is weak compared to the protagonist of the web novel but his biggest strength is the knowledge of the story, and the complete text saved in his phone account, the synergy between characters, the environment of the world, the good people and the villains, and pace of the progress is very balanced. What I like the most is that the MC is very human, not a saint but not heartless, not a demon but he helps the people who are willing to follow him, even the jerk protagonist of the web-novel who wants to kill Dokja, Dokja tries to guide the protagonist to the epilogue he wanted to read, if he can't read it, he will see it in person. I love, love, love the story, and I want moooooreee! <<less

I was quite disappointed by this series. The set-up is interesting, and I don't dislike the hypocritical main character. However, it's too dry. Perhaps I dropped it too far but, at this point in the story, the surprises aren't all that surprising--even to the MC. I like him, but he's apathetic to everything, too. The story is written with him carrying the reader's attention, but he's not written with enough charisma to pull that off unless everything around him is more exciting. There's death and mu*der like in many survival... more>> series, but there isn't any comedy and the drama is weak. Even the action doesn't feel as intense as it should. The storytelling isn't written in a way to get my heart pounding. <<less

Slowish start, great premise, and even better execution. Unlike many novels with similar premises the protagonist isn't some all knowing omniscient Deus Ex Machina holding dirtbag. His plans actually make sense in context and the story even seems to have taken a slightly more mature tone as of later.

There are times where it feels like the perfect solution falls into the protagonist's lap ... more>>

like the Igneel fight. Though the switch up of him taking cold resistance instead of heat resistance was cool

it's always handled pretty well.

The novel is good but slower and deserves at least 25 odd chapters to sink your teeth into and really decide if it's worhtwhile to continue. <<less

In the beginning, this novel has its interesting points but it's not really anything special. The first few chapters are pretty good, but then it starts getting quite stale at around the part where they have the capture the flag battle. There are many readers that just stop at around chapter 60 or 70 because it starts getting boring at around that point, but once you get past that arc, something very interesting happens.

After that, it starts getting boring again, but then something even more interesting happens.

When you reach the... more>> end of the demon king slaying arc, you will basically be lost for words. That arc is probably the most interesting plot twist I have seen in my life.

There are many interesting things about this novel. Like for example, the skill that is known as 'The Fourth Wall'. In beginning, the author sets up the skill as something like a passive but as the story progresses, it turns out... Well, actually I won't say what the skill actually does. <<less

No doubt, this is a genius novel. The settings are very unique and interesting + good MC I really like him + non-stop action ni boring slice of life but still, needs some breaks here and there. Physcological fighs are intense here If you like that. But to me, I wish there were some bloody physical fight scenes but maybe that will happen in the future. Also Im not really fond of the first person point of view. All in all, this is a must read.

Good twist on the "game" world genre.

Pro

    • Interesting MC, there is room for improvement, while he's not a sh1tty person. The story even mocks how bad the usual cold hearted hero is.
    • Interesting world, even if not really developed yet.
Con

    • Need more interesting secondary characters. They are not expressive enough for now.
    • Too much non stop action.

Simply a 5/5. This has to be my favorite novel of all time. I know it may seem slow paced and basic at the beginning, but I think the premise is really unique and everything ties together at the end. I found myself rooting for Dokja in everything he does, and never have I seen someone like him. He’s probably my favorite character ever. Speaking of characters, I loved the characters so much. While the firsr 100 chapters are good, I think it gets SUPER good around 200+, I really... more>> like the plot here and god, the ending ruined me. Also, I love Sun Wukong. Just felt the need to include that. And another thing, this teview is kinda short because it’s been awhile since I last read this, but I’ve reread this for like 3 times already, not including the manhwa. <<less

Finished it.

It was good was my third time reading a novel and I found the ending quite satisfying the characters are great and my ship ended not too well since the relationship weren't quite good since it's not a romance one anyways. Welp it was a great ride I read this for 15 days less, more or smth. Loved the characters tbh.

I guess I would've loved it if it weren't for the goddamn spoilers those f*ck*rs gave.

A great novel!

All the characters are well thought out and have depth. I love the main character and the rest of Kim Dokja's company. The narrative evokes a range of emotions—happiness, sadness, and frustration.

It is a story where everything falls into place in the end, so please do not give up. It is a lengthy read but undoubtedly worth it.

... more>> The change in translation in the middle is a bit confusing, but after a few chapters, you will get used to it.

(A little warning: Do not seek any spoilers for the best experience, even though it's very tempting. I saw a lot of spoilers before I read the whole novel, and the shock of the story development was less [I still enjoyed it though]) <<less

The noel was hyped up to the heaven's to the point where I thought it must be the greatest master piece since writing was invented! Maybe the hype ruined it... I was expecting something..... idk more?

Literary from the get go the MC is like "Oh no! I'm in big trouble here, what should I do? should I use ThAt? Ahh, I guess I have to use it! wow, it worked, problem solved!..... Level Up! Next Scenario here I come!

Oh no, there's a problem... [system; you have just unlocked a skill... more>> that will resolve your current problem do you want to us it?].... MC yeah lets do this! wow, that was lucky, huh?..... Level Up! Next Scenario here I come!

The plot and the characters (especially the characters) are just magnificently entertaining. It's quite a long read, but it's absolutely worth it. There are a lot of expositions that may be confusing and boring for some people (it was really interesting imo), but if you get past that, you'll still be able to enjoy every other aspect of the story. Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint is definitely one of my favorite novels, and I recommend it 10/10!

Still can't believe how much can relate to the novel and how much it means to me.

At first the MC, Kim Dokja, seems a bit boring, but soon you can tell how much depth not only he has but all the other side characters. It has comedic elements while still keeping a serious undertone. This emotional rollercoaster will forever be a part of me

Having read that some find there to be lot of plot holes, don't seem to understand, that that is a part of all the twist this story... more>> has. If the authors just tell everything from the beginning it gets boring. You can sometimes guess what these "plot twist" are, but when they get to the part, it still gets delivered so well, which is also another part of this journey.
Spoiler

One of these scenes are when you find out who OD is and you can actually guess who it was from the some earlier chapters but the scene still left crying and sobbing.

[collapse]

ORV has a lot of side characters that one can relate to and makes you really treasure the time when you were younger and full of curiosity for the world and all the stories that they hold. The paradoxe this novel has is also really well thought. The roles of a reader, writer and protagonist makes this story especially good for me.

Will always recommend reading it again after some time and you will notice some parts that you haven't noticed before.

10/10

One of my favourite novels, if not even my all-time best read. <<less

The story was amazing.

The plot twist, development, and unexpected event are completely fascinating. However, personally I'm not quite content to the written conclusion because there is no detailed information that the story end up a happy ending nor sad ending. As a reader I'm somewhat thinking about how the story would go on if it still continue but my imagination has it limits since I'm not the author. Huhu all I want for them is to be happy, all those crazy methods they did just for one person but still... more>> end up failing to achieve for the ending they all wish to had. I even stop reading up to the time that they confront the Dokkaebi king because I know that if I continue reading the story will not end up as the story that I imagined since I something predicted how the story would go huhuhu. Well but I still read it to the end because it kept bugging me how the author concluded the storyy but as I expected its not categorized as happy nor sad ending. <<less

I read the manhwa and got impatient, so I went and read the whole novel.

It's worthwhile! In every chapter, the way the plot flow is up to my liking. It's not a slow development with lots of filler scene, but it's definitely not as rushed, like, the author summed up some timeline in a few paragraphs. Actually, I can even imagine the scenes written running like a manhwa inside my head, lmao.

While it may not be a masterpiece, but it's much more readable than its fellow Korean novel protagonist regressors.

This is really one of the best novels, if not, the number one novel in my opinion. This novel was really the opening door to all the other webnovels I have read.

The characters, man, to think I can get an adequate grasp of their personalities which for me, is an important factor when reading stories. When you indulge in something, you have to be able to continue imagining to keep on feeding your attention span on the story. You especially get to understand the main character and the protagonist whose... more>> stories just make your heart go weh. Then, they are part of a found family and everything is beautiful;;; (look at how hard I can cry)

The plot, oh my god, the stuff the story throws at you hits like a truck. The plot twists are what really bring this story's game up another level. They change dramatically how you view the story. This especially applies to the time paradoxes which litter this novel. I love paradoxes.

Now, a life lesson I learned from reading this story is to reread. When I first read this novel, I spedran the story which inadvertently made one of the earlier arcs seem quite boring. I was quite eager to find out the truth and the end of the story. But then, I decided to reread and since I took my time, the story really settled in. I cried for I finally truly understood the content.

If there was a novel that affects how I see life, it is this one guaranteed. I mean, imagine spending brain cells remembering specific numbers, and the existence of two squares next to each other representing something so paramount in my conscious, it's insane.

I don't think my review can do justice to how I truly feel about this novel and what it really deserves but anyways, give it a try, and even if you are reading the manhwa, I absolutely recommend reading the novel too. You just miss out on those details and some statements just mean stronger when they are letters on a page. <<less
