I want to say that I've read quite a lot of isekai genres; japanese and chinese version both. These genres mainly took three routes.

1. MC became a self-righteous person that went around saving others while staking his life into it (mainly female characters) and ended up living through it with plot armors. If the plot is good and some comedy is in it with acceptable power level progress is made, it would turn out OK.

2. MC ends up going on the route of world domination after a series of... more>> 's*upid' events. Typically, these types are hyped up for badass and anti-heroic actions. But, these type normally lack the logic behind most of the decisions made and end up half-assed.

3. MC ain't a saint nor an evil one but one that is more of a rationalist. These type will need more reading behind the lines skill to really understand the context. But these type usually starts good but ends up sloppy as the characters ended up 'broken' by a series of events leading to them becoming the (2) type of novels. Still, if they could manage to stay within the perimeter till the end, it would be a good read.

Now, where would this novel be then? It definitely ain't No. (3) because MC is one of those Mary Sue characters that will try to 'save' everyone if possible. Let's just exclude the parts where MC time skips here and there and just the MC that is in the first timeline. He had the Great Sage that would be the biggest plot armor for him and he is supposed to be an adult with experience but he acts just like a little kid. Naive, childish and surprisingly self-centered too.

Spoiler

One might already know to at least be wary of one's surrounding; Do not make enemies pointlessly but be wary of everyone as well. No, the MC is so friendly with everyone that he could not comprehend that simple fact and ends up having his aides killed. Yeah, he killed those who did that but after those 'dead' was resurrected with his OP plot armor, did he manage to comprehend what led to the death of his close ones? NO.

In the end, it fell into the No. (1) category where the MC is a fricking samaritan that gets overpowered abilities and everything while acting like a frickin child for comedy purposes. As for the world building, it is not bad but definitely not good at all. It went from a great forest to the neighboring cities and then demon realms and angel realms etc... The scale rose so fast and big that it became complicated to comprehend with all that was cramped in all of a sudden.

As for the plot? Cliche but still ok. It's the typical start with world building to resisting foreign invasions and leads to MC invading instead. Nothing out of the ordinary but with foreign surprises along it made it quite OK.

Characters? NO, seriously I give a big NO. I mentioned above but the MC seriously don't get much development in his characters at all. It just went along the flow of the story to fit it instead. Most characters are one-dimensional where they are given fixed personalities and will act along the line with little to no development at all. You guys might say that antagonists are at least interesting. I say the most intriguing one would be the Orc Disaster.

Hinata? OMG, you expect me to say this thing is interesting? She is pretty much a one-line character that is crammed with a s*upid background and expecting readers to pity and understand the reason for her actions. As for the last boss, Yuuki or something like that, that is just a fricking chuunibyou that was planning world destruction. I wouldn't go as far as calling him a rip-off Aizen but heh, he is pretty much a typical villain with the difference of knowing to hide his fangs. Even Orc Disaster with his normal sad past made him a better villain in the novel.

Lastly, too MILD. Seriously, grand scale wars and battles here and there and the casualties are just... I don't need bloodbath or gore but be reasonable. You expect a war to be something that you could casually stroll in and win with no casualties. A dragon rampaging in a city and ended with no casualties. Even those dead in the series later are revived and all happy end. WOW oh WOW, what a realistic intake on a war.

[collapse]

Basically, this novel is good for a binge read. If you're planning on reading it and understanding the motives and reasons behind the actions and everything, just give up. The MC's actions are inconsistent and subpar with his supposedly experience of being an adult. MC is basically just acting as an adhesive that glues up all elements in the story but that's all. Wouldn't say its a bad novel but definitely not a good one. <<less

How should I start?

For how entertaining it is... If that's the main thing, entertaining and fun, just great.

From the protagonist whose personality is great, to the secondary characters.

... more>> Each one of them has an unbeatable development, their personalities felt "alive".

The author didn't forget characters (or at least I don't remember forgetting any of them), the best of all is that each of them had their time on "screen" each of them always had their chance.

As for the development of the world?

Well I can say, it was very well built, skill levels and all that sort of thing, even the development of the world outside the forest, was great!

But if I have to emphasize something I liked, then it was the characters that accompanied the protagonist. They kept their personalities from beginning to end, they matured that's true, but they kept their essence.

Anyway, if you ask me if I recommend it, then my answer is yes, of course I do.

I may not have much tension, but the rest is just great!

Read it.

Psdt: Sorry about my English. <<less

Truthfully this story's become pretty boring. The jokes are starting to get lame, the suspense factor is non-existent and the development can be seen a mile away. All that's left is for Remuru to defeat the bad guy and take his throne. Also the romance has dried up (there was none to begin with) and the only purpose of the upcoming chapters seem to be to show how great and awe-inspiring out little slime is. In the end I stand firm in one thing; Ceil-Sensei is the best!

Status: read all of it, understood all of it.
9/10 if you wanna know reasons, read further or just leave.

First I will tell you reasons why I like this web novel.

1. Webnovel has unique idea of MC getting reincarnated as weakest species and then his journey to become the strongest. This idea matches with other novels like "so I'm a spider. So what?". And " Re monster". However it is clearly different and better than both other. "So I'm a spider" has too much skills and level up and a chaotic world without proper antagonist. Demons fighting humans, elves... more>> fighting humans and demons. MC became God but was unable to defeat an elf which wasn't even a god. Whereas Remonster has gross idea of eating humans and it is also without a proper antagonist. It also has a huge number of skills which you can't even remember. Tensura web novel doesn't have level system or a lot of skills. It has proper antagonist and one arc leads to next and story flows pretty smoothly. It doesn't have any gross ideas either.

2. MC is op but not op at the same time. He is OP for those around him. But there is always people stronger than him. This series isn't like those s*upid ideas like God gave me a skill which turned me even stronger than god as soon as I stepped in another world.

3. This series introduced idea of monsters getting stronger by naming and idea of magicules. Since it lacks RPG element, there isn't stuff like " I accidentally defeated strong opponent and my level went crazy high and I became op like this"

4. I don't know why some people count this as a defect that MC is genderless. If there was a gender they would be complaining about thirsty girls or shitty female leads or MC being a simp etc. Some people can never be happy no matter what you do. Fuse sensei has kept this interesting by keeping MC genderless and not focusing on s*x. If someone still wants it, go read re-monster, it's MC is born for s*x.

5. It is a very nice combination of reincarnation, kingdom building, weakest to strongest, strong MC and other genres. Like you read tags and you'll get almost everything described. Some tags are wrong though which I'll discuss later.

6. Now my favorite reason:" MC isn't naive, s*upid or simp. Yes he was pretty ignorant when he came to this world but he learns and these are his words' unlike those characters who has flower fields for brains'. I don't know why these tags are included but he has no need for s*x hence no simping. He isn't naive (I can't give you spoilers but you'll understand when you read it). He isn't s*upid either.

7. My 2nd most favourite reason is the AI skill MC has. It is really unique idea and you'll love it when she evolves and gets better and better at communication and proficiency. He has the best and smartest AI in anime history. If you come to understand how much that AI has done for MC behind the scenes, you'll admire her as much as I do.

8. Lastly, this series has a male, otaku, dragon whose interaction with MC will make you smile. If you've read as much fantasy and isekai manga and novels as I've, you'll understand how refreshing it is to have a male, tsundere to some degree, otaku dragon instead of a loli or pe*verted big oppai dragons.

10. Lastly, MC isn't some pacifist shit. He kills when he is angered. He razed 2 armies of humans when he got attacked. He isn't preacher type either like Naruto.

Now we'll move to some cons:

1. Some characters grow stronger (not suddenly) but without "screentime". That much is to be expected as it is a web novel.

2. Some reviews says that MC is an idiot who spares enemies and let's people insult him. They are immature. First if he lets someone live, It is because of fixed timeline (hinata sakaguchi etc.). He lets people insult him is a wrong statement. He is on very high level than some idiots who call him fake or weak. You don't go around showing everyone you power one to convince them. You simply let dogs bark at you, you don't bite them back.

3. Veldora went on rampage in past but no casualties. S*upid objection which shows reviewer hasn't read carefully. Veldora clearly likes humans and doesn't kill them untill they are foolish. That time in past he went to "play" with a demon lord. It wasn't his plan to kill anybody. When eastern empire attacked, he didnt hold back and razed a city.

That All I HAVE TO SAY. IF YOU WANNA READ THE NOVEL AFTER READING MY REVIEW, I'LL ASSURE YOU THAT IF OUR TASTES MATCH, YOU'LL ENJOY IT.

FOR IDEAL EXPERIENCE! "Watch anime first season, start manga from where anime left and read to the end of MAN AND MONSTER SUMMIT, then read web novel from maybe chapter 81 or 82. Light novel and anime and manga, for the sake of so called action, nerfing MC and making him s*upid. If you want him badass, read like I told ya.

Anime, manga, novels etc. Are for entertainment. People just keep objecting and uselessly ruin the series for newcomers. <<less

Its a good novel, except that theres too much blabbering on each chapter, if you can actually sumarize the chapter, it can be easily done on 200-300 characters without missing a single thing in the story.

but kudos for the translator and editor for this novel, they were able to handle this kind of bullcrap.

I didnt think could drop this story when I started, I read every chapter of the first arcs and remember how nice it was but after it starts to become boring and get to a point when I cant avoid but say is really the same author??

In a point starts to make a lot of characters that looks interesting but dont develop any like the demons that summon Diablo or the Lords in the laberinth Zegion and company, The villan Yuki is a crap his story is a crap hinata is a crap his story make no sense the same like Yuki the characters in his surroundings are crap, the first hero of humankind in that world and his story was a totally bullsh*t even tough a few deaths will be sad and alike in a war dont put any and give perfect victorys is a foolishness the MC instead of learn from the death of Shion and the others keep going easy with his enemys and show mercy to people like those from the empire that dont deserve it they go with the intention of conquer and didnt have any motive for atack him or to the other countrys

This is a story about a slime who is ascending to every monster's dream. Making a town filled with monsters, that is. The author really does a good job with minding the little details, and know where he want to take his creation in to.

MC is not a hero, nor a typical hero stereotype who will save anyone in need. He is a pacifist but willing to do anything in order to protect the town and his family. Not a wimp, just a naive who is used to the usual... more>> peaceful day.

MC and his companion is OP, but there's still many character who is able to squash them flat. The humor is nice, the story line is very enjoyable, characters are very colorful and lovable and the action is definitely enjoyable and not confusing (there will be many large scale battle being depicted).

There is a harem potential, but the author turns it in a way that I'm starting to think the MC as a fatherly figure (wellp, he's old guy and a gender less slime, what do you expect?). Character interaction is very enjoyable and the side story definitely worth the time.

Be warned though, sometime the translation quality would be a bit crummy (but the translator's quality definitely improves overtime, and is doing a good job in this recent chapters), but you can seek enlightenment on the comment section. <<less

The problem with this WN/LN and other Japanese WN/LNs is the naive, happy-go-lucky Japanese beta male fuled by plot armor. I think fact that people forget is that this guy was an ADULT man that got reincarnated. Either he suffers from mental ret*rdation or a cognitive delay. This novel would've gotten a pass from me if I was like 14 but now that I am an adult, it just looks childish. In general:

Nice story, it begins being really fun. And although the characters doesn't really develop, their basic settings are good enough to make the little interactions interesting and fun.

Sadly, as the story progresses, it becomes more and more cliche, the author starts going to deep explaining irrelevant stuff and even starts being a bit too redundant over certain things. Also, some times it feels that Fuse-sensei keeps going on with the story just to realize that there is nothing supporting X or Y and suddenly goes back to trow out a... more>> random explanation in an attempt to "support" it; some times he nails it, but many he misses the shots and just makes you think that it was way better leaving it how it was, in fact you haven't even noticed that it was missing... <<less

Beginning was good, through the end was bad, dropped @c194

Too many plot holes.

Main antagonist - the author tried very hard to make him seem "clever" or "schemer" but its due to plot holes and even the no.2 strongest can be controlled.

Spoiler

the author created some "time paradox" to add some spice but doesnt really fit with the story. Its was just forced into the story to create something that feel awesome and wise, but no!

Spoiler

the main antagonist controlled the strongest hero but for only 3 times, the author loses count of that 3 time command, lmao

Spoiler

a strong friend was always away every time there will be fighting, like a "loli gildarts" but you know gildarts is away for some quest or training but that loli friend was just doing some unexplained homework, but shes supposed to be a "carefree" character

Conclusion:

The author came a with a unique plot at the beginning (reincarnated as a slime), gather some awesome story parts from other novel like "time paradox" "scheming, controlling villain" "7 deadly sins" those were cooked together and created a bitter taste (plot holes).

The kingdom building is good though, fun read to kill time, so I gave it a 3/5 rating. <<less

Plot armor too strong it ruins the story

There. That's my review, summed up in one sentence.

For tl;dr version, open the spoiler.

Spoiler

At first it was fun to see Rimuru struggled to faced many adversities... and then everything became ruined when a certain delusional scum got reborn, gone full chuuni emo, tried to destroy the world because of his despair (chill down a bit you third-rate Kinzo's imposter) .

Surprisingly (oh my), that idiot has many supporters who delightfully destroyed everything as they please while maintained high-and-mighty attitudes... only to get completely rekt later by Rimuru's subordinates. Good bye filler charas we won't miss you all.

I feel like the author intended to increased his pace when he wrote that last arc. Sadly, the said pace feel too hurried and destroyed the whole story because new charas keep popping out of nowhere for no reason with no background. Moreover they all were quite overpowered, as if the author thought "screw this I'm lacking OP chara need to make moooaaaarー"

If the author ever planned to make a rewritten version of it, I won't even be surprised.

Very interesting start, interesting path choice but too fast development, sometimes pointless stuff, the story had too much potential but is rushed, 250 chapters are too few, a pity. It would deserve to be 5 star if were build slowlier and better but only deservers 2-3 stars like this.

Interesting stuff right there, boring stuff right there, rushing story rigth there, kawaii characters right there, industry-made characters right there, some jokes right there, OP MC right there, unbalanced allies rigth there, a failed try to make a deep novel right there,... more>> too much wasted potential, but hey, still worth for a 1 shot novel, enjoy. <<less

Overall I would rate it as a 8/10, there are times where it can be boring, but overall the story is pretty enjoyable. The comedic aspect that is added in pretty often is one of my favs, its similar to kumo desu nani ka (im a spider so what?)

Honestly I live this novel and wish I could say it was 10/10 but overall the main cons:

1. There are a lot of useless aspects added into the story, they arent nescessarily the boring part, but it feels a lot like... more>> the MC will mention somthing and youll forget that it existed. Its kinda got an annoying sandbox effect added to it, where you feel like your just digging your hand in and hoping that youll grab onto somthing solid to pull above the surface. When you do it is enjoyable though, more so than most novels ive read.

2. Imagine what I just said, but with characters instead. There are a lot of characters that have great development and diverse personallities in this novel. However there are also a lot of reappearing characters that are considered "important" but lack anything but a scale of their strengths and an unchanging personallity. Often times characters take completely new shapes (literally) and youll think to yourself "who tf is this new dude" every time. Luckily it doesnt happen to often tho.

Other than these 2 cons, I would rate everything as 10/10, its truly a good story and I would reccomend it to anyone able to commit to it and handle the boring moments to get back to the 10/10 part that feels like an actual amazing novel. <<less

This was the first Web Novel I've ever read. (Unless you count Overlord, but I read the Light Novels)

It holds a special place in my heart as the novel that lead me to my obsession of novels.

It's also the first (and only) novel I've ever bought a physical copy for. (Tensura LN Volume 5)

... more>> So yeah, 5 stars lmao. No contest. I read this for hours and hours upon end.

First part is kinda slowish, it's more of getting everything set up, everything built, and everything propped up. The first part is "carefree" and slice of life. Then... oh boy, oh boy. Right now, the manga for this novel is about to hit the fan. The second part of this story and onwards really blew the veins out of my forehead.

Just watch season 1 of the anime, wait actually, scratch that, read the manga up until its current chapter, then read this awesomeness from where it's left off. Zero regrets. <<less

I read the mange first before the novel, and I think the manga is better.

Comparison of Novel vs. Manga:

Novel - more of the MC's thought process/emotions, more dialogue, more filler, more details

... more>> Manga - faster pace, more action and less filler

The novel focuses a lot on the MC's internal monologues and emotions, which personally was a turnoff. This is because the MC's internal monologues sometimes take up 1-2 chapters. I prefer the manga as the pacing is faster and still keeps the important points of the novel intact, so whether one reads the novel or manga, the plot will generally stay the same. Due to the large number of characters that show up in the novel, it is difficult to keep track of who is who at times, while the pictures in the manga helps one to differentiate the specific features of each character.

Overall:

The novel isn't bad, but the amount of info dump and internal monologues is very tedious to read. If you're not a patient person and prefer plots that move faster, then I recommend the manga. <<less

Overall reading this was a blast, and I feel like this is one of the better stories that has come out from Japan. And I feel like I should give this a review (Minor Spoilers Ahead)

This a mostly a journey of our MC namely Rimuru, who is as the title says reincarnated as a slime along with a super cheat the Sage, which later becomes a major plot point. Along the way Rimuru gathers companions, fights monsters, builds a country, and becomes a demon lord. After dozens... more>> of chapters or so he becomes OP, but yeah a there's always enemies that could beat him or almost kill him.

Rimuru's personality is sorta (in my opinion) on the grey side of the moral scale, he isn't a typical cowardly JP protag, and is willing to kill if anyoen is harming him or his allies. But isn't also wantonly mu*dering anyone that displeases him. So if you don' t like that just stay away.

The thing that disliked was the tournament arc, it's just seroisly pointless and boring, however im glad that the story improved by the (Empires Invasion Arc) which personally is one of my favorite arcs.

The ending was actually decent, albeit predictable.

Definitely a solid 4/5. <<less

Phenomenal storytelling. The concept, art, character development, world building, and action scenes are top-tier. I love it.

The plot of the novel is good. It's not dragging or it does not spout much bullsh*t about justice, hope and other friendship power sh*t. The character development is also good and realistic.

One of the best isekai/fantasy. (Though regrettably there are no romance.)
