This story has some pretty interesting world building, small plot lines (tens of chapters), and character building. However, the pacing of the plot is all over the place. Sometimes there is way way too much filler that is a massive pain to read. It also distracts from the primary plot line. For example, the MC is traveling to a far away city for a competition, is it necessary for him to be attacked by multiple different factions on the way there, during his stay at the city, and on his... more>> way back. Its crazy. And then, the author pulls out a 7 year time skip out of his ass. Then after that, the MC fights for his life for a while and then 65+ year time skip. The plot pacing sucks so much it makes you lose interest in whatever the story the author is trying to tell.

In summary, the novel has some good points, but not enough for it to be all-time-great. Worth a read to kill time, at least you won't lose brain cells like the tr*sh tier cultivation novels. <<less

3.7, rounded up to 4 score. Some chapters are solid 5, and there are enough of those to justify reading it, but some chapters, rarely, like 2 or 3 are low effort places where it feels like the author just forced a point.

Those almost make me quit, but if you can get past them, there's some gold sprinkled in the story. Review c15:
Was okay until for some reason this random woman decided to make him her subordinate. Feels so forced, makes me ??.

IDK if I'll keep reading.

Review at c268:

I came back half a year later and gave this another shot, glad I did. I feel like it's worth giving it at least till chapter 40 before judging it. I recommend continuing to read for people who were salty at the same part. I really like this MC.

Review at c391:

I feel like the balance of power in this novel is something I rarely see. I know the MC can lose fights, so when an action sequence comes by, I'm not bored the whole time because I honestly don't know the end result. Is he going to have to retreat and live to fight another day?.

He's smart enough to avoid conflict when advantageous to him.

I really like how he thinks. I prefer when MCs have to use their brain instead of one-punching through situations.

I see tons of complaining about how slow the MC is powering up when in reality he's still growing fast compared to others of a similar path.

Maybe bloodline adepts are way faster, but as the author told us, that's a path of short term gain with almost no chance of progression once you hit the bloodline peak. Really well developed side characters.

As someone who swore off this novel, I can honestly say if you aren't feeling it, just save it for later, and come back to it once you've exhausted other novels. I wouldn't read this if you're coming off another biochip type novel, the comparison will cause you to miss parts of this one that are unique. You can't expect this MC to act like others, he's something else.

Review at 750:

I feel like the author is too quick to skip downtime, at least near the time skips it wouldn't hurt to have more chapters with a slice of life vibe. Earlier in the series it seems like the balance was better, like around the 100/200s. He pulled a move here that made me as mad as earlier in the series.
Spoiler

Our MC and Fate witch duo got tricked into a contract for assassinating a guy in elemental world. Bullsh*t as far as plot progression goes. Worst move by author since he made our MC Mary's underling. Like he does some things great, but sometimes stuff feels low effort as hell. After three plain wars in a row I could have used at least 10 more chapters of the MC planning for the future. Seems like he's king of delegation here..

Translation work is good. Universe is neat. Story is decent. Pacing is all over the place. Later chapters shrink dramatically in word count and the publisher uses s*upid tricks, like TRIPLE spacing between paragraphs, to try to hide this.

The plot armor, however, is soooooooooooo thick. All kinds of non-sensical decision making by every character in the author's universe.

Spoiler

The worst of this is the MC's golem crafting ability. It's obviously overpowered and obviously the result of a 1-in-100 000-year talent, but everyone and every faction with more power than him seems oblivious to this obvious fact. He could, in a short period of time, more than double the power of all second level and lower adepts in a faction..... and no one seems to care. He could EASILY make it into the esoteric faction and be spoonfed everything he needs, but he doesn't? He could make himself a nearly inexhaustible army of golems whose active strength is limited only by his spirit and crafting ability, and just continuously cycle between them once their energy runs out. He'd have the power of every element at his fingertips... but he doesn't??

Update (ch576) : While I do have mostly positive feelings toward the story, it has a few issues that drag it down.

1: There is a tendency to overfocus on overly technical details for long periods, which make my eyes glaze over.

2: The relationships feel fairly shallow (though at least the relationships have made some progress and do indeed exist) and there's not many interactions in that regard.

3: I don't really have a grasp of an ultimate motivation for Greem (plus Greem doesn't have that much of a personality to begin... more>> with, other than just being fairly capable).

---

Overall pretty good, not great.

The system is fairly interesting, powerful humans are called 'Adepts' and their overall class can be categorized into 4 groups: Bloodline Adepts, Body Refining Adepts, Principle Adepts and Profound Adepts. Bloodline Adepts get power from the bloodline of a creature; Body Refining Adepts increase the body of their body, growing in strength and physique; Principle Adepts hone their innate attributes, such as Fire, Frost, Dark, Curse, etc.; Profound Adepts reject the other 3 styles, which all ultimately alter their body, and instead focus only on growing in power through knowledge.

The setting is fairly hardcore, with evil demons being commonplace across the land and many powerful figures being cruel and manipulative- but it doesn't feel in-your-face the way some stories are. It's believable without being over-the-top in an annoying fashion.

The characters are passable, but don't possess a great deal of depth. Unfortunately the relationships of the characters aren't expanded on enough to make them as likable as they could be, which is a disappointment as the potential for the relationships is still there. (Of course, this could be expanded upon more since I'm only at chapter 161)

The other weakness of the story is that it's not entirely consistent and sometimes things are introduced or caused artificially (as opposed to how a story should flow: organically), where something occurs just because the author wants to introduce more obstacles instead of because it's something that would actually realistically occur.

The author likes to borrow some things from other games/stories, such as goblin engineering from World of Warcraft or a Goblin who is inexplicably named after a pokemon. <<less

I am very surprised to see so many bad reviews as I have thoroughly enjoyed the story so far. Sure the idea of a chip is no new concept but the execution of the story is to totally different from wmw and the other one on qidan (i forgot the name). At first I was just reading this to pass the time and for the first 40 or so chapters its pretty average with some entertaining elements.

All I can say is that its worth it to read this into the late chapters because the author introduces some really interesting elements once the MC gets a decent amount of power

I will say tho that the exposition at times can annoyingly superfluous

I was pleasantly surprised by this novel. The first 50 or so chapters are eerily reminiscent of Warlock of the Magus World. The mind chip is the biggest similarity, and generally serves the same purpose in making the MC able to process lots of info and analyse enemies. The pacing is a little bit slower, with side characters better defined than WMW.

The second major arc, which is based on a Planar War, was very well constructed with new characters, a new world of adventure. For those who liked WMW's switch... more>> to a new world towards the end of the novel, you'll be in familiar territory. It feels as if AoA's writer really liked that aspect of the former's story, and expanded on that from an earlier point in his novel. A good decision.

One major point which stands out sorely, especially if you read the novel in one go, is that the author just stopped explaining the acquisition of new spells. While it was lenthly written about in the beginning and gave context to the fights, this was abandoned for the Planar Wars arc in particular and the MC just shoots overpowered spells seemingly out of nowhere. Exciting yet not as satisfying in the end.

TLDR, an old concept based on WMW but a good, new story. Good translation. Good translation speed (~1/day). I'll keep reading. <<less

This novel has an excellent tone, it's dark and mysterious with out the MC being a total sociopath. I really enjoy the magic school aspects of it and it has a TON of action for those that like that. Greem the main character is likable and chooses a magical path that is different than other similar novels in this genre. The translation quality has vastly improved from when GravityTales started translating it as well. If you gave up on this one early on I recommend sticking with it and getting... more>> caught up. <<less

This is an exciting action-filled adventure series full of intrigue, strategic battle, wicked villains, and creative imagery. The enthusiastic training is full of suspense with the characters' lives on the line. This is a fun, intelligent, and crafty read that spurns the imagination and isn't afraid to make characters ugly. During steps of their journeys, the characters evolve and change their appearances, which is refreshing to see.

The first twenty chapters are pretty slow, but things speed up drastically once the action starts. I strongly recommend sticking with it until the... more>> battles begin. The strength of this writer is clearly in the action scenes. Greem is relatively weak and knows it, so he uses his intelligence to save his hide.

The romance is awkward and seems more like friendship to me, but I didn't come here for that anyway. There are some inconsistencies in the plot rules and development, but the story is stimulating enough to make up for it. <<less

Its ONE STAR, some bullsh*t prevent me from rating it as one star.

f*cking bad, Author ruined it, theres nothing unique about MC, just a plain protagonist who rely on LUCK on every moment to survive. MC is s*upid, saying he is lowkey but always present himself, knowing there was a danger and his a weak one, he just stand there looking like a fool, what are you observing for?

So much nonsense, regarding MC golden finger, what was that EXPERIENCE thing, so hard to justify, I dont know if I will... more>> accept this novel as game genre or fantasy one,

Super bad, I want to continue reading it but, I was irritated by MC so much nonsense, Idiot, All in all he wasted his golden finger,

Dont read it of you finished reading WMW

If the MC is so smart he should not fell for that scheme there's a lot of loopholes into this novel. It's way too much way more than my father cares about me. I only give it 4 stars since the way of the author tells his story is not very engaging. Especially with battles, more feels like explanation of techniques might rather than the flow of battle.

I really like the world build of this one. It has the elements from some other works like Coiling Dragon, Wizard World, Warlock of Magus World, and City of Sin. Well, let's not debate who's the original and says the others are rip off, it's simply a wonderful world build that makes everyone amazed. No wonder... more>> stories about it will keep appearing. Honestly one of the best novel I ever read and believe me, I have read most of the novels on internet. Most people say that it's rip off of warlock of magus world (WMW), but it's not, it took the elements of WMW and made the best of it. If you say that chip is same, power level is same, think which story in wuxia novels is entirely different without taking elements from others. Don't belive in idiots who thinks they are know it all after reading some chapters and... more>> put bad reviews in hundreds of lines like a dignified reviewers.

This only issue I feel is abrupt ending. There are 9 power levels in the novel but the story ends when MC reaches level 5 and he is about to become level 6. Lot of enemies and side characters where left hanging.

Dropped. I don't know what people saw in this; read many about how great the novel was if it wasn't because of "pretty conventional" -"we don't make enough profit, so axe it"- move; and also immense femdom style. Immense.

And more or less that's about it, others are just "i didn't liked how it went THIS part, so bad" which I auto-pilot ignore it. But what I saw, was weird. Even for 2016, that's a way weird way to write a novel, even the first dozens of- it felt like a... more>> desperate feeling of already being long into the novel like TWW (The Wizard World, a.k.a. Daddy of all bio-chips) at 500 chapters, which is like 13/16-13/17 of the whole story- no sense to it at all. It also tries to demonstrate you how amazingly great are the everything's for the acquiescence of KNOWLEDGE of any little sh*t of any little move of any little actual enemy and every little theory behind why -this- color is his/her fav and how it became to be in history 1077 years ago, then recites the daily activities of it and side-notes, 60 paragraphs each and at least 150 words each. Awful.

Another thing, is also this: *notices MC is breathing* "Holl up, imma just for no reason take a sh*t and throw it at his chest" *does it* "Heheh!" *cold glare* " I hate you."-

And that's about it, can't even get disappointed, as bad as watching tiktok comp. <<less

It suffers mostly in the amount of poorly done info dumps. It'll go on long tangents and then explain the same really simple idea twice with a conclusion. Next would be that it is incredibly inconsistent and often immediately contradicts itself in info dumps. Examples in spoilers

Spoiler

Most people don't interact with others, and most people join and hang out in gangs. Clay golem can only fight seriously for 15 minutes and then immediately fights seriously for 23+ minutes. When it's convenient for the author, there's a max of 20 of a type of mob in a spot, but later when he needs something epic to write, that same spot after it has been completely eradicated has hundreds of the same mob. Etc there's tons of stuff like this

[collapse]

If you can tolerate info dumps, take any supposed restriction on an ability with a grain of salt, and master the dao of skimming, then the story is fine. The translation is pretty well-done from a comfort of reading perspective.

Lastly, if you're into these sorts of books for progression, this might not scratch the itch. The author seems more interested in the creature archetypes taken from WoW than the MC's strengths and improvements. <<less

This is a pretty decent story

It has some issues and a lot of positives

First of all, some of the reviews are really dishonest.

... more>> A magic setting with a bio chip is by no means an original setting, but neither is being reincarnated or travelling back in time. So this is not more of a ripoff of WMW than most chinese stories are.

I personally prefer this one of over WMW and The Wizard World, but they are all around the same level of quality.

I like this one more than WMW because while the MC is still objective evil (lawful evil), he isn't as extremely apathetic and cold as the one in WMW.

The Wizard World is just to short for me with 600 chapters..

The other dishonest review would be the guy complaining about the MC hiding behind women all the time.

Which is an outright lie, he literally only does that for the first 100ish chapters and even then it's more of a mutual aid thing, otherwise he is always pushing ahead.

But to the actual review.

It's a nice read of a guy getting stronger, conquering planes and building a faction.

There's some focus on side characters and people don't just disappear at some point forever cause he outlived them like in so many other stories.

He has love interests who are actually interesting and are of use too.

I personally have a weakness for Fantasy stories, so it works out that way too.

Now some cons:

Story can be a bit bloated at times, like army fights before the high tier characters intervene, but those at least show the progress of some of the side characters.

The author sometimes goes into too much detail.

The translation for the 150 chapters isn't great, and while it gets better afterwards, there are still errors a few times a chapter.

I personally don't love the MCs fighting style.

It's well done and the fights are decently engaging, but he is a pure fire type caster with some summons, and I always preferred melee more.

Biggest Con by far is the ending.

The story just ends at chapter 1532, barely mid way through, dunno what happened, but if you want a better ending, stop at 1500.

(Also a lot of terms are World of Warcraft inspired if something like that bothers you) <<less
