although the action sequence is good, the MC however is another story. The Arcs we see is slow paced, beginning is more of a improvement, then Author likes to boast the handsomness of the MC middle section consists of school life, the later arcs deal with the mystical party that’s where the action parts finally show. Like the other reviewers despite the title we just don’t know what the author wants with this novel. There is zero romance in it everyone is friend zoned, I find the MC rather boring.... more>> It feels like a a rough road that leads to nowhere, it just feels stagnant. I feel bad for the girls that’s why it received this stars <<less

Be reminded that the MC is super duper mega ultra handsome. This trait of the MC is so important that it even had an entire chapter dedicated to his handsomeness, how he displays his handsomeness, how others react to it, and the fact that it could still improve, and is rapidly improving.

There will be a frequent reminder of his handsomeness in case you completely forgot it. I think that in that one chapter, I got overdosed by the mc's handsomeness that I want to vomit. He is so handsome that... more>> I couldn't discern his actual character at all, if not for the fact that he is handsome and has that cheat. If you think I've used the word 'handsome' too much, then after you read a couple of chapters you will feel your horizons broaden and realize that there are heavens beyond the heavens.

...

Anyways, that's all I want to rant about. In any case, the writing is good and it's worth reading. I'm only at chapter 13 so maybe the handsome affair is only a prelude, I hope the author focuses more on the mc's personality.

(On a side note, I really hope the previous owner of the body didn't commit any s*xual harraent in the past...)

((I hope I'm just overthinking:)) <<less

First of all, I really regret to read this novel.. Why? Because it's so amazingly boring. Like seriously? Really? Just that slow story progress and too many female character that I can't really remember each of them. Actually, from the start it has a good potential, but as the story progress, the story became really boring for me, well this is no harem, it's just many woman that the MC co*kblovked, so the MC has no woman and then no harem, seriously why the hell this is happening, really regrettable.

Well... more>> that's just my opinion, I am sorry for someone who read this puny review and angry about this..I just want to say what I have on my mind, thanks.. Peace <<less

This series is not what it seems! On the surface and very nearly has all the settings for a happy go lucky harem novel but it starts to weave in other elements without your notice as the story progresses. You actually need to pay attention to his "System" to understand that the story may end up going in a different direction. Actually this novel only has the preface of a harem novel and the elements but is more of a cultivation novel for something greater. The gaming elements aren't touched... more>> on much, but are there are for more than one reason.

  1. The gaming engine informs you on his progress that he simply uses as motivation, nothing more than that.
  2. The only OP thing about the engine is LOAD/SAVE mechanic.
  3. Take a wild gander...
The novel isn't very descriptive but it doesn't overlap perspectives like a certain harem novel...

Also the MC is not worthless but kind of clever, or at least proactive. <<less

Let me begin by stating that I have read this novel twice. The first time was while it was being published on webnovel, and the second time was recently. Another important point to note is that the second time was since I had thought I had put it on hold. Apparently, I had suppressed the memory of "completing" this novel the first time. I'm not surprised that it is still on hiatus, as the story simply fell apart in the second half of what is available today.

*takes a long sip of tea*

Now, let's delve into it. There are some major flaws in the novel. First and foremost, there are too many characters that are quickly forgotten or barely given any significant "screen time." Perhaps they were intended to appear in... more>> the second part of the story, but I highly doubt it, considering how drastically the pacing changed. Initially, the story focused on the growth of the main character and the personal arcs of each of his companions. However, once we reached the second part, the genre completely shifted to a psychological/supernatural theme with occasional slice-of-life fillers. I even found myself wondering if the author had been replaced by someone else.

Secondly, there is an excessive amount of "telling" rather than "showing." Loredumps and philosophical monologues dominate the second part. Most of them fail to enrich the story and end up repeating themselves. How many times did the main character engage in self-reflection, labeling himself as a "scum" for establishing a harem? I lost count.

Thirdly, there is an issue with worldbuilding. Many "Chekhov's guns" were introduced early on, such as the existence of another civilization in the world and the main character's mysterious past, which were only briefly mentioned and never explored in detail.

Lastly, there's the matter of the "harem." I can't quite put it into words. It was somewhat acceptable in the beginning, but once it gained momentum, it became an awkward polyamorous relationship accompanied by a great deal of self-loathing.

In conclusion, the first part of the novel is somewhat enjoyable, but it takes a downhill turn after the establishment of the "harem" and the story delves into a heavily supernatural world arc. <<less

So, let's talk about 'NEET Receives a Dating Sim Game Leveling System'

NEET Receives a Dating Sim Game Leveling System, is a story that I really don't need to explain, it is really all explained in the title, tags, and description, so I'm going to talk about my experience in the novel and my problems, and you can judge whether you want to read this from my review or the others, or completely ignore my review and judge based off of the most-liked comment. Just to say something, but I hope... more>> you judge these reviews based on the content of the reviews and not by the rating of the review.

I believe this is a good story but not a great or superb one, I enjoy reading it and I'm hooked on reading the story whenever I can, I find some parts funny and other parts I find boring, annoying, or straight up repetitive. Many reviews talk about how the author always talks about how handsome he is but the title has 'Dating Sim' and a tag saying he is handsome so what exactly did you expect, besides how interested in a novel are you if you drop it because they mention someone is handsome in chapters. They stop doing this after a while but this is basically a self-insert type Novel, 'Harem', 'Handsome Male Lead', it is made so that you imagine yourself as someone like the MC and you feel good while reading it.

That reminds me of another big problem, they add in that he was 30 years old before he reincarnated as a way of saying that he is "Mature" but he just acts like a stereotypical harem tr*sh MC with no parts of him being mature whatsoever, well actually no, he does act mature in some parts of the romance sections however that is very minor and only starts happening later on, around chapter 560. The only part that is mature about him is that he is smart sometimes, but this mostly only happens with people who annoy/anger him, but besides this, he acts like a teenager would do. The author seemed to plan for him to be more mature at the beginning of the story and how when he talks to Kazufuru Ooike at first he acts more like he was using his "Cheery Highschooler" personality as a front and acted like an adult beneath this mask but either the author forgot or didn't know where to go using that idea.

This is a (sorry to say it again) Harem, Cheat, Handsome MC. Don't talk about how you didn't like that it was just a slightly higher quality Harem, Cheat novel when it says it in the tags, it's like ordering a cheeseburger and complaining that there were meat and cheese on it and then giving them a 1-Star review on yelp.

EDIT: The Harem aspects of this story are more realistic, the characters will learn and have a large reaction on his Harem and actually ruined the story a little for me and caused me to drift away and look for a new story.

I recommend this story to people who want to self-insert or Harem stories.

I'm sorry that my review focused on more negative parts of the story but I'm a pessimist so it is difficult for me to focus on the better parts of the story so I'm sorry for that. <<less

Read it full, you won't regret it (I didn't), there are some annoying arcs but there are also lots of moments that you enjoy yourself that compensates it. And although the MC is a little bit of a monk in the beggining, when the harém truly consolidates he becomes a lot more proactive and the romance gets pretty satisfactory. Also this novel has one of the best harém structure that I have ever seen, it isn't some cliché perfect relationship, they actually have problems and they talk through it (the... more>> majority of the other books with harem tag after seeing this would be like: wooooou is that even possible?), also the girls are pretty charismatic (I like them) and they don't become meaningless harém waifu side characters, at least for me they were well developed by the author and have some voice in the history. <<less

Hey there,

After reading some of the rather harsh reviews I felt like I should share my honest opinion on this story

Bad points:

... more>> It's slow plot wise, and at the beginning power gain is too fast. The red thread is hard to spot and not often in the foreground

Good points:

Translation quality is good and I don't stumble while reading. The characters and romantic interests are unique and easy to distinguish from one another imo (it might take a few chapters for that to truly become obvious though)... The plot armor device is clear from the beginning so one can tell what awaits within the story. The MC isn't portrayed as perfect. The system doesn't define his everyday life.

Overall it is an enjoyable read for me. It's not really a pageturner... I actually had to take a few breaks while reading (just a day or so) but it still has a way of making sure I come back to find out what happens next.

There are some scenes and characters that truly annoy me, but it's not to the point of dropping the story or even truly impacting my good opinion of it.

The only thing that is truly bugging me is that the driving force and urgency come in really late, so the beginning feels a bit hollow? Senseless? I'm not sure how to really describe it. <<less

Well first of all sorry for bad english..

And here I know why the rating become low, BORING... yes, boring. The story maybe get better but.... maybe will happen hundreds of chapter later~

This novel will have 2000+ chapter with this pace of story

... more>> MC become the biggest problem in this story, simply because he is your typical jp MC who half naive, only half because he can kill people.. tbh at first I think he will never kill people until the end~

As for the female chara, well the same for other jp harem novel, MC only property, fall for MC easily

And serious moment just destroyed by jokes, not just once but many many times..

Lastly this is shounen and slice of life... not my genre~ <<less

While I do agree that the title can be misleading, it doesn't mean it's wrong.. In fact, I think this novel deserves a more grandeur title to show how magnificent it is..

At first glance, we have MC whose said to be a body stealer reincarnator and has a system that can show woman's favorability towards him. He had no clue of how and why it was happen and can only speculate from the memory he received from his body original's owner.
Spoiler

as the story progress on, some clues came up about how it actually is regarding his reincarnation and what actually the system used for

[collapse]

The MC was originally around 30 years old so it's within reason he was mature enough to not think only with his d**k, and looking for a stable relationship.. And so, he didn't abuse his "system" to toy with other's feeling.. Even his "handsome" face was a bit of detriment for him, as he afraid that everyone would be disillusioned after having relationship with him and knowing more about him..

Some people argued about how the MC wanted some male friends, but does it really need an explanation? He wasn't the only male in that world, and there are also a lot of topics which are more suited to talk to within every gender.. And so, I think his decision was also quite normal and can be reasoned..

Some people also argued about how fast the MC lost his weight and become strong.. Although I also think it is quite ridiculous, it still can be reasoned as the "system", which is the product of the fantasy setting and still stay as a mystery, can push the MC over his limit and attune the Mc's stat..

On the other hand, I also agree that the author was a bit too much of emphasizing MC's handsomeness.. However, it also holds some bitter truth, in which appearance is quite significant to how someone is judged on other's eyes.. You may think nothing of a smart person, but it change greatly when he/she is smart and pleasing to look at..

Move on to the other character.. Almost every character was beautifully fleshed out and has their own unique characteristics.. The constantly changing point of view showed us how much they struggle with their feelings their other problems.. You won't even find stereotype like :

-- kyaa! Mc's so cool/strong! I'm willing to die to be his girlfriend!

-- he save me when I despaired. I'm gonna follow him till I die.

Every time a potential heroine found a new aspect of the MC, they started thinking over their feelings toward MC, whether they can accept it or not.. Some will develop their character, some will stay the same but still unique, and some even backed out after lots of trying to get Mc's feeling..

The story line was quite simple at first, but started to expand to become quite complex later on.. Initially, the setting was in a modern world and the story was like a normal rom-com-school life.. Later on, the MC was told the hidden side of society in which there were supernatural beings such as onmyou and demons.. And so, the story became action fantasy in modern settings, with rom-com-school life on the surface..

What I find amazing is all of those settings doesn't conflict with each other.. Moreover, I really think it is beatifully done.. The hidden side of the world showed mystery after mystery which sate my curiosity.. The surface of the world showed how the greatness and bitterness of youth, in which I can relate to real life (especially the bitterness)..

All in all, this novel is so great and I consider it as the best true harem novel out of 300 or more novels I've read.. It also good in other various aspects, but may also not for everyone's plate..

Started off interesting the couple dozen chapters until we get mentions of how handsome the MC is and how beautiful every female is.

Slice of life: the author just added all he could into it without proper organizing it, serious moment? Nope Chiaki ruins it with her banter and jokes (gets tired where you can't go half a chapter without some joke she makes) the author tries to add mystery with yin yang thing with him yet keeps failing, whole point of mystery is when it slowly gets revealed not glossed... more>> over and over.

Romance: is none basically, 30 year old virg*n MC that rejects all women and refuses to get a GF cause his 'sister' cries (not really) and tells him to wait so he does. After 550 chapter we get some romance yet it's a kiss and MC acts like JP virg*n, only reason I assume romance started was because readers got bored of it.

Comedy: Over used banter and back and forth jokes that destroy any serious moment which makes it weird.

MC: All we get is perfect, handsome, hero, and did I mention handsome? Let me repeat it every chapter.

690 chapters and it feels like the plot moved forward but it's too late since my interest died out with the filler about comedy skits and such that you can skip and not miss anything. <<less

The story is good, but with the passage of the chapters it becomes very cloying and boring. The personality of the MC is good, but very passive when it comes to romance, which makes him look like a typical Japanese MC. I recommend reading it to those who seek a plot not so complicated without conspiracies typical of Chinese novels. Through the passage of history situations similar to animes or movies occur, which makes it interesting, but as I mentioned at the beginning, with the passage of the chapters it... more>> becomes boring.

In general, it is a fresh novel, but it is going at a very slow pace.

A good slice of life novel, the progression is slow but that's because the main part of this novel is not fighting, if you want fights and action this is the wrong novel. If you want character and relationship development this is a good novel. The MC is not as dense as typical harem leads in JP novels and is not a loose pen*s like the ones in CN novels. The majority of the interactions are with females of course.

An annoying part for some people might be that the MC... more>> is highly demotivated in making himself stronger up until chapter 380+ I think. He prefers to enjoy himself and all that crap. But even so he's still quite strong thanks to MC power.

Spoiler

I'm only annoyed because the relationship between him and his family is still not fully explained yet. What did he do to get kicked out of the main family? Did his sister actually kick him out to protect him since he was a normal person?

To be Honest I am really enjoying this Light/Web Novel, it's an interesting take on an isekai, where the fact that everything is a trope is entirely intentional to progress the story, the MC is literally in a world more closely resembling the anime/manga he read in the "Real world" before reincarnating, and some of the reviews I've seen have been bashing on the MC for this and that, but in my eyes so far every action that he's taken towards garnering a girls attention even if he "Isn't looking... more>> for a relationship" is to be closer to them, that's how it starts with the first female introduced, he uses the system to garner some favourability to increase the trust between them to allow him to live in the apartment and then after the situation surrounding that girl escalates he unintentionally increases it too high and doesn't know what to do, but anyways enough of that, I'm just really liking the Novel and really like the inclusion of all of the tropes and cliches in an actual way that works with the story instead of just throwing things around without context. <<less

first ten chapters or so 5/5

quality as of 275, barely 2/5

The quality plummets as the story goes on, the majority of the cast is there just to magnify the MC. The MC is perfect and it's like he wasn't actually a 30 year old NEET and the "dating sim" part of the system is literally ignored. The story is becoming a cultivation one.

I like parts of this novel. It's another world reincarnation adventure with gaming elements/leveling system, and started focusing on that. But then it's more and more chapters about flirting, or buying groceries, or remodeling an apartment, working on writing and publishing novels and drawing, cringeworthy romance...I found myself skimming 5 chapters seeing if any plot develops, a plot character makes an appearance, usually to find nothing interesting. So while I like it, I have to read 85% of stuff I hate to see something I enjoy. I guess I like... more>> the fantasy and adventure story and am not a slice of life person or one that likes to read about being an otaku or wanting to be an artist or high school romance drama that goes nowhere. I know some people like that. I mean they must, there's so much, there are so many other world stories where they spend chapters reinventing soy sauce and cooking stuff, or building a toilet, etc. So if you like this kind of stuff, you will like it. If you like an other world adventure, you will start out liking it, then realize that is a bare fraction of the story and read MUCH more "filler" that you hate. <<less

The title is miss leading, its not what you think it is. Honestly it feels more like a Japanese slice of life novel. I really don't have many negative things to say about this novel. It's more of a disappointment feeling. It has one of those harems where the MC never actually does anything with it. He's suppose to be such a grown up but instead of in acknowledging that people like him he decides to pretend that he doesn't see it. Also the author seems to have a hard... more>> on with how he has to describe how handsome the MC is every chapter. Overall as a harem novel it has failed me. But it's good as a casual read. <<less

The story has a good premise but as it continues the author simply doesn't know what he wants to write any more.

At first the story is about 30years old NEET reincarnating into high school age NEET and trying his best to change for better. Down the line MC meets some girls and have typical situations with them from "common route dating sim game". Simply put it after the transformation that takes a week, MC can easily get every girl to join his harem without even trying.

Overall MC getting more girls... more>> to his harem theme continues throughout the entire storyline. My final opinion on MC is that he isn't a 10-timing scumbag, which is my usual opinion for harem protagonist so yea... MC is alright and with it the overall story is also alright. Best of all MC isn't really dense and he perfectly realizes that if he wanted to he could have s*x with this or that girl... that is because even if MC tries to overthink things... his special powers AKA... dating sim powers tell him up straight "if you ask for s*x you will most likely get it".

Naturally as uasual, following harem storylines, there are standard tsundere, tomboy, student counsil president, loli, a trap, maid... adding to that there are some twins, mafia boss daughter, boss at work etc... etc....

Sadly though, the author decided to include completely different story to already existing story, namely a happy story about MC getting girls is combined with MC levelling up his fighting and spiritual powers and has to battle other "spirit masters" for whatever reason. He needs to get strong to protect his nakama and all this kind of bullshit. This plotline is so completely messed up that at one point you are wondering whatever this is still the same story or a novel adaptation of Nurarihyon no Mago. AH right adding to this, about 30 chapters into the story we suddenally find out that MC comes out from some super spirit master family... basically that he is the chosen one!

Generally it's not like that spirit master plotline is bad but once that is added to harem storyline we end up with two separate storylines going within a single storyline and naturally only one can progress at the pacing of both storylines a complete mess.

I should probably also mention that those two aren't the only storylines in there... author really have no idea where that story is going so he out of sudden decided that MC starts writing light novel and then he makes a dating sim with his haker otaku friend, and in his plans he wants to write managa... right he also decided to become a streamer at some point and was rocking that twitch but at some point author forgot about that storyline all together.

Well in short this story is a complete mess... but enjoyable enough to give it a try. <<less

I heard the author note at qidian about how this was a history that he wanted to write everything he liked and a that moment I had a bad feeling. Turns out I was right and this is just a huge wish-fulfilment story.

I actually had high hopes since the sinopse reminded me the world God only knows, that was a anime/manga that I enjoyed way more than I should have. <<less

It's a good story so far, for now avoiding the largest pitfalls of both the Chinese wuxia/xianxia web novels and the Japanese Reincarnation/game LNs. The phrasings are at times a bit awkward, but overall the writing and translation are good. The main character is the best part of the story so far, having many of the best characteristics of good xianxia mains, as well as those of the Japanese LN ones, without having their most annoying traits. Overall a very solid, though not outstanding novel. Though only time will tell... more>> if it will manage to maintain its quality, which few novels like it manage to do for long. <<less
