Eight hundred years ago, Xie Lian was the Crown Prince of the Xian Le kingdom. He was loved by his citizens and was considered the darling of the world. He ascended to the Heavens at a young age; however, due to unfortunate circumstances, was quickly banished back to the mortal realm. Years later, he ascends again–only to be banished again a few minutes after his ascension.

Now, eight hundred years later, Xie Lian ascends to the Heavens for the third time as the laughing stock among all three realms. On his first task as a god thrice ascended, he meets a mysterious ghost who rules over the ghosts and terrifies the Heavens, yet, unbeknownst to Xie Lian, this ghost king has been paying attention to him for a very, very long time.

Not gonna lie, I enjoyed it at first but after a while, I was just waiting for it to end. No joke. It's soooooo long. The MC is a damsel in distress and the ML is overpowered, a creep, and a stalker. MC personality really grated my nerves because:

1. How does he not have any backbone at all?

2. His backbone consists of turning evil for a brief period of time

... more>> 3. Qi Rong and Mu Qing thought he was a black lotus and I totally believe it

4. Never listens to anyone, does not think about the consequences of his actions.

As for the ML, the 12 year olds reading may have thought it was romantic but it was actually incredibly creepy that he stalked the MC for CENTURIES. 800 YEARS this dude stalked a person. Not to mention he's c*cky and only cares about the MC. He really had nothing else to live for and was literally just a tool for the advancement of the MC, he was no better than the MC's sword.

The romance is as dry as my eyes after reading it for days. They have nothing to aspire to. There is no passion. NONE. I only continued because I like the author and thought the other two novels were good. But I dont like how she made these characters into the typical husband and wife thing that I see authors do with homos*xual couples. She did it a bit with GMC but it was more prevalent in this because the MC completely took the fair maiden role, while the ML took on the strong and protective husband. It's disturbing. Also, every mention of how jade white and PURE their skin was, made me want to stop reading so bad. Like, seriously. As a black person, it really isn't great when authors talk about how pure and good someone is and then bring their white ass skin in the same sentence. It gives the impression that the author thinks being white skinned is the only way to be beautiful and "PURE??". Everytime his beauty was being described, it was matched with how jade white his skin was... it's a tad bit weird. Especially since I see it a lot in these novels so one might think that these authors are not doing a good job of hiding their colorism. <<less

I have just finished reading Heaven Official's Blessing or Tgcf and I feel like I really need to write a review. I give this novel 5 stars because I can see that the author, Mtxt, has worked so hard on this project. Applause!!!!

Tgcf really hit the core of my emotion. I laughed hard, I cried, I feared and scared, I felt shy, but most of all, I was inspired and learned a lot from each character.

Mtxt wrote the plots so well. It intrigues me to keep going from one chapter... more>> to one chapter to verified my prediction, but there a lot of time I had to cover my enclosable mouth because I was so surprise that thing was far beyond my rational thinking. However, I would like to tell you that there were many times I almost threw my laptop away and scream because of some scary scenes. It is less horror compare to MDZS, but Mtxt really knows the nature of human fear and I do not know whether it's because I love to imagine everything realistic, but I was scared!

Beside this, I cried a lot. It is because the description of why one chooses to do the thing they do is just so reasonable and understandable. It just like, no matter how hard they fought to survive to resolved the problem, there was always a possibility of unacceptable result. No matter how bad they did, there was always a story behind. As a reader you will feel so helpless and wish that characters not to meet that end, but at the same time you also understand that how thing should be. So, let's just cry!!

By the way, I laugh to the utmost. I can list down who make me laugh that hard. They are Xei Lian, Qi Rong, Feng Xing, Mu Qing, Pei Ming, He Xuan, Quan Yizhen, and my favorite one, Shi Qingxuan! Shi Qingxuan was a resilience guy, talkative and friendly. He kept his popularity in no matter circumstance.

Even though I love this novel a lot, I have to be honest. I am a little upset because there are two secrets I wish it to be unfolded. Once you finished the novel, you will find at least one secret that you will automatically go to search in google for the answer, but you will never found it because even Mtxt does not know that secret! See? How come? They are not loopholes, but Mtxt intentionally keep it as a secret. Despite so, let's look at the bright side: creat your own answer!

Warning: Spoiler alert!!!

I would like to introduce you guy the MC, Crown Prince Xie Lian. I can say that compare to all the characters from Mtxt's works, I respect this guy the most. To me, his decision is a symbol of what I call "the right to do" on the principle of morality (Well, he did "bad thing" too, XD). We see the whole story through Xie Lian's eyes, so to gain the best experience I recommend you to pretend that you were him (there are some scary plots. You might not wish to experience it, so if you take my suggestion into consideration, finger cross for you! XD). This main character went through different experiences in life within 800 years. He developed from an elegant, perfectionist, idealistic young Crown Prince to a mature Heaven officer or god who was very humble, idealistic, and simple (peace from the inner side). Even though he was very strong and stubborn, there were at least two times he whispered in his heart: "Help me". No one was able to hear it, except his only one believer, who no matter how much price it took, still followed him, protected him, felt his pain, and waiting for him to notice his existence.

Hua Cheng is 190cm tall (I do not know why I tell you this, XD). Through his eye (I mean eye), and his scimitar's eye, there was only one god (he said other gods were useless, yeah he really meant it!). His wish was to protect his beloved. So, his goal was to be stronger! Stronger than everyone! This guy crushed on his beloved since he was a child and died again and again, reborn again and again for his beloved. No reincarnation involves-- his soul was just dispersed and he fought to reform them again and again!

A very happy ending though! No worry! So, I highly recommend you to read this novel!!!! <<less

It can become monotonous since it has lots and lots of details about many missions and it's backstory. The author seems to be in love with misleading the reader to believing Sth and then later it is revealed that it wasn't that way at all. Over all I loved the story for the beautiful connections you will see between the MC and ML. Also... The main thing that caught my heart was the beauty of the interaction between the MC and ML. The description itself had me imagining the most... more>> beautiful scenario. It truly does capture the heart. Also... Damn Hua Cheng for being a supportive lover till the very end. Always stepping back to let his self conscious God do it by himself. Always promoting the "you can do it. You are the strongest" slogan. Damn Hua Cheng for raising my bar for future bl characters. ? <<less

OK, I feel like this is the best work of this author, I really don't undertand how this is not her most popular one, I definitely think this one is more interesting than Grandmaster, the characters are just to cute to be true and at the same time we have a lot of plot building and time focusing in the world we have the same with the characters. I think this is the only work that I read all the way until de end without skip some chapters.

This is an MXTX epic. ‘Nuff said. But to say more — the OTP is unforgettable and what they went through to become one... I came to embrace pain in fiction because of this novel. So, so worth it and tempered well by the insane sweetness.

One of my biggest cons about this story was having Jun Wu as White-no-face. It was extremely predictable which makes it really disappointing to me because I love Jun Wu as the emperor & his dynamic with Xie Lian is rather nice. I feel like the author made them the same person just to have a big twist at the end, which is ironic cause I saw this from a mile away and I bet many others did too. Everything would've been fine if they were different people.

Just throwing this out there but heck, this story could've gone waaaay differently if ML was JW.

Overall, very enjoyable read if you're fond of MXTX's writing style. She definitely improved. Story-wise, it's one of the best ones in BL stories. <<less

This is the most heartbreaking novel from 3 novels by MXTX and in all novels I've read here so far. You might find this slow pacing. I almost gave up reading this when I was done with few chapters but given a chance, this story is beautiful and probably you will find it one of the best. The story is deep and the love story here is somewhat heartwrenching that I cried in most chapters near the ending. Personally, I think the plot of TGCF is better compared to MDSZ... more>> and SVSS though I think it lacks smut compared to MDSZ... I felt it was too filtered. In general, this story is worth reading. <<less

A great novel, the perfect mixture of all of my favourite genres - BL, xianxia, comedy, mystery, action, with some psychology and philosophy... There are moments of fluff, fun and tragedy.

The ML might seem too OP to some, but I found him to be just perfect for the story. He wasn't OP to the point that he could solve everything with a move of his finger, the plot didn't suffer from his presence at all.

The MC was very good too, as I learned more and more about his backstory, the... more>> more sympathetic towards him I was, the more I felt I understand him, and the more I wanted him to get a happy ending.

The world building was good too, though I sometimes had to take a moment to remember which kingdom was which, or which name belonged to which side character (though by the end I was pretty confident in who was who). Almost all side characters have their importance, they are mentioned and appear throughout the story repeatedly. Everything is interconnected, which I like very much - it is not just a bunch of slices of life.

Compared to the other two novels of this author, it is definitely more similar to Mo Dao Zu Shi (Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation), just a little bit more intricate and complicated. There are also chapters that take place in the (tragic) past, a hidden evil boss that is connected to everything in the book (with a proper tragic backstory, of course), almost no black or white characters, includes questions about morals of people, the ML is completely devoted to the MC...

All in all, a great story, I recommend to everyone interested in the genre, especially those who have already read and liked MDZS. It is quite long, so you might find yourself losing interest somewhere in the middle - but push on, it is definitely worth it to get to the ending, because without it, nothing will make full sense, greatly reducing your enjoyment and understanding of the novel. It would be a shame if you left with a feeling of 'it was not that great after all'. <<less

This novel is absolutely GENIUS! The plots are very well written, the characters also have their own thoughts and personalities, something you don't find very often, you can actually fall in love with many characters and develop many opinions on them. While the setting of the story is gorgeous and intrigues you to read more and more, what really pulled me in DEEP, was the main couple! obviously they have both gone through a lot but their love concours it all, and you can feel them FEEL ALIVE and find... more>> home and happiness in each other, they're my absolute favorite couple ever! And I've read my share of bl novels. The dynamics, the interactions, their identities, it all makes me scream!!! Absolutely love them!!!!

Spoiler

Now, what makes mxtx a great author is that you feel all "side-plots" actually be apart of a bigger plan which makes her stories mind blowing imo.

[collapse]

PLEASE, give this story a chance, I'm honestly so surprised some ppl would give it a low rating, I mean, sure opinions! But I enjoyed every part of this story and did not feel any usual yaoi r*pey, lowkey-forced-into relationship and other toxic traits in the couple (tho some ppl might call ML obsessive and creepy but he never overstepped his boundaries and was always respectful towards xie lian, clearly very in love with him but willing to do whatever xie lian is comfortable with, and ofc! Xie lian loves him just the same because he genuinely makes him happy).

Though you gotta be warned that some parts are not for the weak hearted and it gets really painful at some point, even more so than mdzs honestly.

Spoiler

Examples: gore, su*cide, beheading, stabbing, scorpions (?) lol a lot of blood

MO XIANG TONG XIU IS ONE AND ONLY! I’m so in love with all of her works!! They are extraordinarily well written, beautiful masterpiece! Just like Founder of Diabolism and Scum Villain’s Self Saving System, Heaven Official’s Blessing is also filled with angst, romance, action, fantasy, and AMAZING CHARACTERS!! Omg I’m so in love with Xie Lian and Hua Cheng! One of the best novels I’ve ever read!

defiantly giving this 5/5. The chemistry between Xie Lian and Hua Cheng is sooooo cuteeeee

Honestly? It's very mid.

I think the reason why this is rated so well is because: 1. It's MXTX, what more can I say. 2. Like me, this is most of its readers' first (bl) webnovel. From someone who used to hold this on high regard, I can definitely say that I just haven't read much novels yet at the time, lmao.

K so my main issue with this is the main character, Xie Lian and how the plot progressed. For the first few arcs after they met, they don't really do... more>> anything. Other than flirt while going along on missions and shit. Also, Xie Lian is a character that's really bland without anything interesting traits. He's... kind and selfless? I guess? But that's really all there is to it. Partly why book 4 is my favorite is because MXTX' s characterization shines on this one yet it fails on the other books. Most of the main cast felt like fodder, existing only to advance the plot. They mostly have one character trait that they embody most of the novel. Also, Xie Lian felt really off at times. It really felt like the author was confused on how to write him or they wanted to add some humour yet it just didn't fit his character at all. He would sometimes throw jokes that really came off as the author telling the jokes instead of him, if that makes sense lmao.

I really have no idea what happened with the writing style in this one because it felt really vanilla.
Spoiler

ESPECIALLY in book 4 where Xie Lian was being stabbed. You can write pain and suffering exceptionally well, MXTX, based on MDZS. But you can't just copy paste "it hurts, IT HURTS" 50 times over with this one. I'm ngl, I laughed out loud. It really made it comedic, sorry not sorry.

[collapse]

With all that being said, I don't think this novel is all that bad. It's just overrated. It still has some good points. Though that might just me grasping onto the straws since this was my first webnovel and I still like it despite the flaws, lol. <<less

THIS IS GOD-TIER BL novel.

Everyone who enters BL circle will sure heard of this story. F*cking amazing love story and many people descibed it vividly so i'll just say you won't regret reading this. I don't know how many time I cried while reading this novel, buckets of tears. My eyes and noses are flushed for days until I completed this novel. A huge relief for giving happy ending, cause this novel can have bad ending with just last chapters missing.

Extras also will make you cry ugly. The angst is... more>> heavy in 2nd book, which describes MC's life and struggles after fall of his kingdom.

This novel deserves more than 5 stars, whoever giving less than 4 stars, I really couldn't understand their view. There are 5 books, even if you give 1 star to each book, it would add upto 5. <<less

I have read this book almost two years ago. Since then, it hasn't been one day I haven't thought of it.

The story is thought-provoking, philosophical in nature, just as expected from this author. It keeps snowballing form slightly intriguing at the beginning, to the point where the first arcs seem like fillers compared to what's going to happen. It's never dull, though you could cut off ~50 chapters and still have the same thing, more or less. Which brings me to the second point, this book is huuuge. At ~750, 000 word count, it's bigger than the Lord of the rings series, Hunger Games and Twilight. If you like big books and you cannot lie, this is just the thing. The complexity of the main character, as well as the conflicts between the side characters are the main forte of this story. Each one of them has their own character arc (except for the ML maybe? We'll get to him later) and gets to shine and to justify their actions and tempers.

Moreover, the misadventures they are put in makes you question your own sense of morale- was that the right choice? Everything is written in grey so depending on each reader's morality compass, this one was right or that one was right. Makes you think of real life. Villains and heroes do not exist outside of our own minds, they are a concept born of each individual's judgements. Regarding the ML, he isn't a good person; he is obsessive over his lover and sociopathic in nature. But he is a good lover, and he understands and repays kindness, and he usually leaves people alone unless they get on his bad side. The kind of character that you wouldn't like to meet in real life but tolerate reading about. But at present, he seems too- perfect? He is just too cool. And it kinda breaks the immersion as most secondary characters are more likeable and believable than him.

At the other end of the spectrum there is the MC, overflowing with kindness and empathy. But what people seem to ignore is that he is extremely badass, concealing his old age, wisdom and crazy brute force under a lean body and modest clothing. He also lives in poverty and loneliness without complaining, being used to all the world's hardships because he has no choice- he can't die. This leads from total numbness to his own misery, all the way to torturous I-have-no-mouth-and-I-must-scream situations. He is the prime example of what happens when you try to save everybody- you fail, and you suffer at your own choices. But now he's got his own yandere ghost creep to accompany him and make sure he won't eat food off the ground anymore.

The format of the book is quite episodic. In the present (books 1, 3, 5) , they just travel places and uncover mysteries and meet new characters. The story focuses on those characters and sometimes takes their POV. It's like watching lazy town, you never know what theme this episode will have. In the past (books 2, 4) , the story mostly focuses on those 2 and how they came to be.

My favorite parts of the story are the past. ML goes through a pretty badass transformation.
Spoiler

He is a demon, who was reborn form the ashes of a ghost, who died for the sins of MC, who became a ghost because of grief (for MC), who was a soul released by MC that refused to let it go, who was a teen who died in the war for MC, who was saved by MC years ago. Whew.

[collapse]

Aside form the past, the wind master's arc and the story on Yin Yu were pretty fire.

This story will always live in my heart rent-free. It won't get into the mainstream because it's bl, but it's the best this genre has to offer. If you value diverse characters, fantasy and philosophy, this is the rightest thing.
Spoiler

Also gets extra points for the gigant mecha fight.

i love this novel to the end of time, so as someone who's reread this 8 times, I really have to say my take on the reviews where people complain about the flashbacks/angst... are you s*upid or braindead??? *staring at the* TRAGIC PAST, PAST TRAUMA, PAST PLAYS A BIG ROLE, BETRAYAL, DEPICTIONS OF CRUELTY... are you blind? did you not read the tags? this story spans over 800 years, naturally the author would have to include the past? especially because IT SHOWS WHERE XIELIAN HAD CAME FROM AND HOW MUCH... more>> HE'S MATURED AND BASICALLY HIS ENTIRE CHARACTERIZATION?? personally, even if all the flashbacks and past were painful to read emotionally, it was extremely well written and structured. IT WAS NOT CONFUSING AT ALL??? and it was necessary to the plot as well. i'd prefer lots of information/long flashbacks than large, gaping plotholes any day. if you can't handle the angst, that's fine! find a less emotionally-tragic novel to read then. don't blame the novel for the knives if you couldn't handle the angst because you didn't read the mf tags. 🙂 <<less

After reading MDZS for the second time, I wanted to give the author's other works a shot. MDZS already set a high standard, and I went into this hesitantly, with vague expectations. However, by the end of this journey, I was left pleasantly surprised- no, absolutely blown away.

This novel was very, very well-written. In fact, I think the author really outdid herself with this one.

The story at first glance seems nothing too extraordinary. But by the end of it, I was left inexplicable feelings. This was truly a wild rollercoaster... more>> of emotions that left me being only able to say... wow, towards the end. And not just because of the plot twists thrown one after another! The author tied up the story quite nicely, connecting every event to the underlying plot for an insane revelation.

I have to admit, the comedy really, unexpectedly, caught my attention. It was quite significant throughout the novel, and I was thoroughly entertained. Maybe I'm too easily entertained (lol) but there were many times I actually laughed out loud. On that note (on the other hand?), the angst was truly horrifying. To put simply/spoiler-free, I laughed, I cried and everything in between.

I really commend the author's efforts in giving depth to all the characters and neatly tying them to the main plot. The supporting characters were individualistic, I rooted for them sometimes, hated them other times. But all of them, at least at some point, were truly very frustrating hahah...

Our two main characters left me with a deeply profound impression. Disclaimer: towards these two, my thoughts simply can't be summed up, but if you read till the end, you will (hopefully) share similar sentiments. At first, I thought XieLian was a typical too-nice-for-his-own-good type of character, but its really much, much more than that. And we have HuaCheng, whose strength derived from loving him for all 800 years (and more). I could clearly see how and why the two fell in love with each other. After not having experienced happiness for many, many centuries, they were finally able to find solace in each other. And in Chapter 241, a thought popped up in my mind, wow, how could someone love someone else this much? (don't skip to it! enjoy the journey, its important, hehe)

Spoiler

When the whole world turned against HuaCheng, who at the time was a despairing child (literally), XieLian embraced him. When HuaCheng cried that there was no reason for him to live, XieLian told him to live for him. And XieLian, at all of his worsts, was found by HuaCheng again and again. When everyone (including himself) didn't believe in him, HuaCheng did, and would continue to do so. This poor MC went through absolute shit, I'm so happy he got to find someone to depend on after being alone for 800 years.

[collapse]

This whole novel was an overwhelming package of emotions. I'd love to experience it all again, but at the same time, I'd be quite hesitant lol. Still, very highly recommended! And read till the end!! It's all worth it, I promise.

tl;dr: Amazing... just beautiful. <<less

I don't know how to properly convey how much I love and adore this novel. Words simply can't express it. If I could I would erase any memory of ever reading this novel just so that I could experience it again.

Xie Lian and San Lang's relationship has profoundly impacted me, it's a soul-deep sort of ache after reading it. I have never felt envious of a fictional character until now. Xie Lian is incredibly lucky to have himself someone like San Lang.

As for the non-romance part? Addictive. Engaging.

Heaven official's blessing, in my opinion, is the best novel out of the three. But I feel like the novels from MXTX are all equally good. It really depends on which one you read first. For example, people who read MDZS would naturally like the plot there and have expectations set based on that novel, so when they come here, they expect totally different things. But leaving that aside, there are many reasons why I think TGCF has the best content, and I'd totally recommend!

For the story, we have Xie... more>> Lian as the main protagonist, and Hua Cheng as the Male Lead. For convenience purposes, I'll abbreviate the names to XL and HC.

Spoiler

HC, is the epitome of devotion. (Which is probably already expressed in previous reviews) He met XL 800 years ago as a child, and grew to idolise the crown prince. This is the base of his devotion. But if you actually read the story, you would realise that that's only the base. HC's devotion to XL isn't only because of the one factor, which is when XL caught him off the tower during the festival dance. That's only one part of it. But because HC has a horrible past, meaning he was bullied and put in situations much worse than that, he was touched when in times where no one else cared, XL was the one to catch him and tell him, " If you have nothing to live for, than live for me." Breaking the rules of ascension.

Adding on to that, once kid HC decided to make XL his reason to live, the fall of Xianle happened due to JunWu, (the no face disease was caused by him) which you'll find out later in the story. XL demonstrated his kindness by sacrificing himself for his people (Taking hundreds of swords to his fatal points) and says he'll never change. This makes HC idolise and admire him even more, pushing him devotion to him. Even hundreds of years later. Hopefully this explains a part of HC's devotion to dianxia.

Now, XL isn't just some sacrificial dude who's overly kind for him own good. That's just part of his personality. But more than that, the protagonist also knows how to kill when he has to. For the sake of his survival. He isn't baselessly nice. You'll see that once you look deep into into the first arc. He isn't dumb enough to spare XuanJi is he? No. This will most likely get rid of some of your worries about reading the novel.

[collapse]

There's other ships if you're into that. This is about all I can think about from the top of my head. I won't get into too much depth as you can easily search those up on YouTube if you're still unsure about the novel. Overall, all MXTX novels are good. SVSSS, TGCF, or MDZS. But I don't like it when people compare MDZS with TGCF when they're two different novels. I just would totally recommend this novel!! :D Good job if you made it through my rant. Hopefully it convinces you enough? Also, in would totally recommend the donghua and manhua too if you have time!: Good luck. <<less

I don't know how the author somehow melded tragedy, grief and all the grey morality of life and the struggle to stray true to yourself, with the most amazing slapstick comedy I have ever read.

I love the MC and his struggle, how he's not perfect and doesn't pretend to be, but he tries in a way that you can't help but be in awe of, especially in today's world where people are increasingly turning towards illogical hate. I really liked the ML, his simple desire to love and protect, no... more>> yandere or selfishness, just love. I also liked how many times the ML bursts into genuine laughter, bringing this realistic depth to him, making him human which a lot of 'prefect' MLs lack. The ML is also a ghost king, so there is a certain darkness to his realm but that doesn't mean he's evil. I wish I could say more but that would be too unfair to any reader from discovering all the depth and layers to all these characters.

The people who didn't like the novel, it's okay? Calm down? It is simply impossible to please everyone, and even the most popular thing may not work for you. I saw Huaxia's review, and honestly it would be better to skip it since it talks about the whole novel openly and barely anything is in the spoiler tag. The only thing I will say is, trying to be a good person isn't boring or lame. It's the most difficult thing to do in life.

A pity that the translation reflects the translators prejudice. Random Yankee accents to showcase 'low bred' people, or York accents do not fit in a Chinese translated story. Not only does this reinforce stereotypes, but also westernises it in an uncomfortable way. <<less
