The start was good, cool MC character, good story development, nice power system, the definition of a good novel.

The middle was somewhat meh, the story taked a little weird shift but not unexpected, the plot was still good, tho not comparable to the first part but still good to read and if you loved the story you can continue.

The end was a total disaster, it was like there were multiple people who were written the story but they didn't agree at what to write so every one was writting what... more>> they want, the plot is shittier chapter after chapter and the logic had a su*cide a long time ago, the plottwist was a big peace of sh*t in the middle of the story and the ending was literally the definition of "what the f*ck" and the post story was less what the f*ck then the ending but still carabage

And that's only the main plot I didn't even have to mention the side plots that are just a little bit less miserable than the main plot.

To conclude if you don't plan on finishing the story, I really recommend it, otherwise don't wast your time, the end will just make you feel miserable and that you wasted your time for a piece of shit. <<less

Really great story overall, but I would've given this a 4.5 but it does deserve a 5 star in the end.

Nearing the end of the novel, it started to get a bit confusing especially the last few chapter which felt rushed too.

But in the end it's a great plot, worth turning it into a manga or webtoon.

I have mixed feelings about this novel. It started out fantastic, I liked the game elements, the protagonist, the comedy and even the side characters but it started getting downhill somewhere mid-novel.

As some people pointed out, MC's character started changing, drastically. Though I got the feeling that he changed more into a mindless slaughterer than he was before. He just killed everything that displeased him even in the slightest and plot armor was always present to justify his actions. It felt more like reading a story about a bland KR... more>> antagonist that usually appear in these novels but author tried to cover it up by overpraising and justifying MC's actions.

The other thing that disappointed me was the ending and how it was executed. There were subtle hints dropped here and there before the ending about the final villain and what was going on, but man did author screw up with the plot twist.

Spoiler

Near the end, you find out that the world that the story has been taking place in is actually a virtual one created by the people from the "real world". MC is presented with a choice to either restart the virtual world where he lived his entire life, or say screw it all and let everything disappear. Instead, MC is all of a sudden able to affect the "real world" from the virtual one and magically solve all problems, effectively destroying all the tension and foreshadowing built up trough half the story rendering the ending extremely disappointing.

[collapse]

Even with all the problems i've had with the novel, i'd say it isn't bad to try out if you want a game-element based novel and are sick of regular pushover MC's. <<less

It's a good binge read to see the MC bruteforce everything, however the end really ruined it for me, when

the introduction of the professor toppler and it gets all matrix-like with the world being a virtual reality and then it all turns to shit. I think the author just wanted to end the story lol

A lot of people comment on how the start was good, but it went downhill towards the end. I'm not so sure I agree. I think the start was pretty meh, and the ending was also pretty meh, just different flavors of meh.

The biggest issue I have with this, and you'll see it in a lot of other novels, is where the character who knows things, often the MC, just refuses to explain anything.

I understand the idea that others might not believe you, or that explaining things to the minions... more>> isn't necessary or worth the effort sometimes, but that's not what we get here.

We have an MC who won't explain basic concepts, things that he could just be like, "Do this, don't do that." Really simple things, things that would take seconds to explain, and he just refuses to do so. Even though his refusal to explain ends up creating extra problems, that he ultimately needs to face. He's pointlessly rude and obnoxious, for the sake of being rude and obnoxious.

I can't tell you how many times he needed to physically force, or use threats, to get a person or group to do what he wants, all because he couldn't be bothered to say 2 sentences to them.

It's so frustrating, and it's also clearly the author creating conflict for the sake of conflict. We've all seen stories, even tv shows and movies where a person does something illogical purely so that a fight can happen afterward. That describes this entire story. <<less

I think this is great novel if you are searching for something that is more gritty. It's like a dark version of 'Everyone Else is a Returnee' plot-wise, although with less humor and little focus on the levels. This isn't a world of black and white, our MC has spent most of his life living selfishly, and the novel focuses on his struggles to protect his people from outside forces while at the same time not being the source of destruction himself. I think the writer does a great showing... more>> that just because the MC is super strong, he isn't infallible or omnipotent.

The MC is OP in the same realm of the MC from 'Emperor's Domination' (OP is hidden initially, people underestimate his true power, and he is a complete anti-hero). Unlike ED though, there are actual antagonists. While his power is reset at the beginning of the novel, there isn't a major focus on the MC's cultivation. The raw is apparently completed at 203 chapters, so that is evident there is little wasted space in this novel (compared to the Chinese counterparts). I think this is the best mature novel out there currently (along with 'Dungeon Defense', but this doesn't have explicit/pe*verted content). This is a story that is driven by the gray qualities of the characters, and gritty realisms of war.

---
Edit (@122) : I try to avoid talking about anything specific about the characters since I hate spoilers myself, and you can get them from other reviews, but I think a really good way to describe the heart of the novel is how would a slowly degenerating society react to an OP guy that can command corpses as well as a conversation of the mentality of a guy who can communicate and use the dead. I also gave the plot pace as a positive attribute earlier, but I will acknowledge it does prevent the buildup that is found in most other asian novels.

Edit 2: Finished the novel a month ago, but haven't reread it since. Thought I'd give a quick update though on my thoughts. First although it teases at some romance, there is really nothing significant that is explored, it drives some side characters but don't expect any character development because of it. The ending is rushed (like most Korean novels), and while it tries to wrap most everything up, it is a little confusing and the change in tone has the potential to really turn people off. All in all, I'd still recommend this novel because of the unique MC. If you don't like him at the beginning, then drop it, because he doesn't change himself for anyone and will walk through anyone who tries. He has all the traits of a villain and is treated as such, but that's because people only know him through conflict. The ending is a typical Korean WN, but it doesn't cancel out 200+ chapters of uniqueness. <<less

Seoul Station's Necromancer gave out similar vibe with other game-based korean novels, although the premise was rather different and narrated in faster pace.

It tells the story of a young man who previously summoned to other planet at the same time when calamity broke on Earth to face game-like environment. After fighting for 20 years, he wanted to go back, but when coming back to Earth, he found similar phenomenon had pervaded the Earth, so he had to fight again in game-like dungeons as his livelihood. The MC here... more>> is firstly a necromancer, but later he got another occupation as well, compounding his OP-ness. Also, as Korean MC in general, he's sly and resourceful, despite not fully understanding the new earth he had just came into. Too, he didn't like to work in teams, preferring to get some lackeys for that. These traits reminded me of Ark and Legendary Moonlight Sculptor's MC.

The beginning of the novel felt somewhat confusing and forced, but after the first dozen chapters, the plot and narrative flows more smoothly. It presents all the charms of Korean novels; there are hair-raising misunderstanding, cool MC, and extremely vague hints to romance. I'd recommend you to read the first 30 chapters before deciding if it is good for you or not, but if you usually like K-novels, chances are high that you'll like it. <<less

This novel is kinda tr*sh. It feels too short/rushed and I can’t get over how everything is wrapped up within a paragraph on the last chapter. It makes no sense after you read past 100 and it makes everything I read look like it was written by god himself. Anyways it’s up to you if you want to read a novel that is half baked.

Torn between 3 and 4 stars

Similar premise to Solo Leveling, but comparably shorter

Edgy/apathetic MC, just does what he wants which is enjoyable to read, but it isn't overdone to the point where MC doesn't feel human anymore

... more>> Side characters aren't one-dimensional

Don't read this if you want romance, you'll get what feels like two sentences during the whole book and one during the epilogue. Could've done without it and the result would be better

Ending feels incredibly rushed, I didn't really get a sense of closure from it

As you approach the ending you get a confusing info dump that'll take time to make sense of

Decent one time read, pick it up if you have nothing else on your to-read list. <<less

Seoul station necromancer is about a man that has been left behind by society after returning from a 20 year campaign in a fantasy world while only 5 years have passed on earth. There is a strong sense of being out of place or alienation. Due to a long time passing he doesn't even remember his high school friends, he doesn't know where his family is living now when he first gets back, and his little sister that was just a baby when he left has grown up into a... more>> kid that doesn't remember him. Society has entered the era of smartphones and internet and meme culture that he doesn't get. I think this is a more realistic angle to go for in a "another world" story and adds a weakness and human element so that we as a reader can understand and relate to a otherwise absurdly overpowered and perfect protagonist.

Furthermore his 20 year stint as an overlord of an unquestioning undead army has left him more than a little f*cked in the head. He is used to using violence to get whatever he wants and killing anyone that pissed him off. As an example his first response to getting a draft notice is to want to end the North/South Korean conflict by destroying North Korea and his second thought is to take over/wipe out the south Korean government. The side characters' amazed reactions to the his unreasonable thoughts are played for laughs in this series. However his knowledge and powers from his fantasy world campaign are put to use as the same enemies are now invading earth.

In summary,

his campaign in the fantasy world has made him an outcast in modern society but also given him the powers and knowledge so that he is perfectly positioned to save it, which he will, by becoming the villain that takes over the world.

However I have decided to drop this novel as of chapter 165.

As the novel went on it started losing steam like a out of shape fat guy going for a jog on a hot summers day. Elements I found undesirable started creeping in more and more and the pace of the story slowed to a crawl.

His feeling of alienation and really psychopathic mental problems were fixed through author hand waving instead of any kind of believable character arc. Despite never treating them any more than useful tools the entire time he somehow realises that he is very attached to his group of friends and his family and realises that they disapprove of killing indiscriminately as the solution to solve every problem so he stops. Even though at the beginning he thought that it would be easier and more effective to make everyone undead so they carry out his order unconditionally.

The story has also entered a dragged out phase, which I think is a symptom that the author is out of ideas. The main character is mostly off screen and we start following the team of two bit side characters the MC is training to face the big bads in the final battle, but I don't see their value when he has an army of tens of thousands of skeletons controlled by mostly autonomous undead commanders who can't die.

And finally the undesirable elements I mentioned earlier are story developments that seem overly masturbatory for the main character. Developments that are so exaggerated and so obviously exist for the sake of a power fantasy that it takes me out of the story. Events like him being a rock star and tr*shing North Korea being okay because the leader is secretly his fanboy. Him eliminating terrorism in the middle east because they all group up to fight him and his undead army while always fighting with guerrilla tactics against the US. And him killing half the Korean parliament for being directly or indirectly related to a plot to kill him receives a positive response from the public to name a few.

These masturbatory elements have always existed but could always be reasonable explained. For example him being more famous than celebrities, and constantly being followed by news reporters and brushing off invitations from US and Korean presidents could be explained by him being very powerful so that people want him to save them in case a dungeon explodes. But it really started getting to me after all the good parts of the story exited the stage. <<less

I really wanted to like this. Yet the first time I tried it I could only get four chapters in before I realized that it was pretty bad. Here's the problem, what made me drop the story: the MC is an idiot! I went back a year or so later and read the whole thing out of boredom, and that problem never went away. The MC is an overpowered meathead dipsh*t who never once in the entire story thinks about ANYTHING. People are literally explaining how the world works to... more>> him and his answer is invariably, "Why do you speak such nonsense to me? I'll kill you!" And then he frequently does kill them, and later wonders why he has no idea what's going on.

It starts out like a lot of Korean stories, with a reset. But here's the kicker: the MC at level 2 has 99 unspent attribute points and 99 unspent skill points. So, I figured he'd be able to fix whatever he had screwed up in his alt-world build and do it right this time. But then he, a necromancer, equally spreads the points among strength, health, wisdom, and (I think) agility, at 30 each, and puts only 10 into magic. He made the worst POSSIBLE necromancer build, even though he knew that his class was still set at necromancer. And then he gets search skills before raise skeleton skills. But wait! It's totally OK because by level 10 he's dual-classed as a warrior and necromancer, and gets double level bonuses so that he can keep up with both! So even while he had no idea that ludicrous cheat was coming, he made a perfect build for it.

I specifically wanted to read a story about a mage because reading about moronic face-blockers who wouldn't know a smart decision if it stabbed them has bored me to tears, but then I find out that this necro MC is also an idiot. How disappointing. Even worse, he's yet another unstoppable idiot. There's only so many times you can read, "Ah ha! I researched you, you know. You're a necromancer, so now that I'm close to you I can kill you no problem!" and then have the MC bust out warrior powers to kill the guy. Over. And OVER. AND OVER AGAIN! The entire second half of this story was an endless repeat of that with zero tension or threat, and the worldbuilding happened in the last 30 chapters. By then I didn't care.

The leveling stuff didn't matter at all, either, past the first 20 chapters. Especially after the death knights came out. A third of the story was the MC waiting to reach a high enough level to summon his lich and bone dragon familiars, but by the time they showed up they didn't add anything to his already insane OP army. The numbers didn't matter any more, and the plot by then was nonexistent.

I had hoped that the story would improve. And very VERY briefly it did. But overall I'm almost tempted to reduce my rating from 2 stars to 1. The story was that empty. <<less

Dropped it at ch122. I would have given it a 1 star but then it made me hang on until 100++ chapter so I guess it has to amount to something.

It just became a train wreck. The plot holes became more and more inexcusable! I often cheer on anti heroes when they have equal parts muscle and brains. BUT THIS GUY. Migawd. Face slapping becomes enjoyable to readers because at the end of it all you wanna show how you outsmarted your enemies. BUT THIS GUY!!! Aargghhhh he just does... more>> what he does because I Am tHe MoNArcH, I Am ThE kinG - and its not even in a satisfactory way. I just hated him the longer the story goes! There was a scene where everyone has to evacuate Seoul bec you know! Monsters are going to get out after the dungeon break so people/ the canon fodders started to rally and they demanded to be protected. The MC then said, if you can leave then leave if you cannot then fight, if you can't fight then you are better off becoming one of my undead. One of his side kick/side character said, it is not as easy as that, since for example, his parents are already old - He cannot bear to see them fight or are you (MC) going to turn them into an undead as well? THAT scene made me realize how arrogant and short sighted this MC is. Even the side characters can easily see what he cannot. Made me wish if he can easily say such nonsense without thinking about the consequences then shouldn't he also make his mom and sister fight?! <<less

You know, this is one example of those novels that rise your hopes up to the sky then smash them to the ground.

This novel was good like your typical novels with game elements and dungeons at the first several dozen chapters, but it got gradually on my nerves with how arrogant and racist the MC was, we're already used to the racism between the three countries but it really surpassed all the bounds in this novel, the straw that broke the camel's back was the terrorist accident, I instantly dropped it permanently and never have returned to read it.

I am writing this review after finishing the novel. This is my first ever novel review so please bear with me.

First of all, the only thing going for this novel is its Start. It started well and with a lot of promise but after some chapters, it only went downhill. I really wanted to drop it around 3-4 times but the hope of something good happening never faded and I came back to it time after time to finish it.

After some chapters, the protagonist defeats his rivals through the same... more>> methods like they don't know about him being a warrior also and they fell for the same trick. Fights are not up to the mark. Those looking for some Romance in it should stay away from it.

The main characters are well described but some of them lack some proper description. Names can be confusing as some characters have almost the same names. The protagonist of the novel is one of the good points of this novel. He is not a Naive, pushover one. He is very cruel, confident, and stubborn.

The ending is unexpected. But unexpected doesn't necessarily mean it is good. Maybe some of you will like it but most of the readers will be like, "WTF".

I won't recommend this novel unless you enjoy the same types of fights throughout the chapters. And maybe if you are somehow barely able to complete it, I don't think you will feel like all that patience and effort was worth it. <<less

Largely a waste of time. The main character is a legit psychopath, but the author pretends he isn't when he's around his family. The plot is an endless series of twists culminating in just so much contradictory nonsense. There aren't any interesting ideas or unique character archetypes, everything is stock and boring. There are a few funny jokes that get beaten into the ground after being recycled every five chapters or so.

Ultimately there's nothing to recommend here.

I like this novel but like other korean novels I've read it has the same problem in my opinion. The plot wants to be too deep, it could be nice if there was a hidden boss behind the dungeons but there's a hidden boss behind that boss who happens to be squidward from a different universe. You know it's meh.

But the thing that bothered me the most about this novel is the lack of character development for those besides the main characters, I feel like only one female got good... more>> development in this series and she wasn't really close to the MC. Plus I dislike how not so smart the MC is when it comes to protecting his family. The MC from EER and ICDS seem like they know their family can be targeted and take at least some counter measures. At least this MC is pretty ruthless and has his priorities in order as in world danger > the press. And I also thought the last chapter could have been done much better, it felt rushed and lackluster compared to how the rest of the novel was developing.

It's an interesting novel nonetheless, I recommend to read if you're waiting for your other novels to update. <<less

It was good for the first hundred chapters and then it suddenly got worst. Full of battles and battles. There are few progress of the charas because it was focused on "battles". There is no breather so its kind of stuffy and tiring to read again again about the fights.

This is recommended for who are battle/fight brain head people.

This story had such promise but then it fizzled and broke with the writer being unable to follow through.

1. The MC has been gone from earth for 20 years, but in real time only 5 years has passed. So when he gets back he is so clueless that one has to wonder how did he adapt and thrive in the world he was transported to. And once he gets back he does isolated research one things that may effect him.

2. South Korea has been hard hit, so the common man... more>> has it tough and it seems the MC can only take time to bully those he can beat. He saves a kid from a beating, so he extorts money and a place to stay from him before and after he finds his mother. But she is poor and can’t afford to do better. But he has no clue about how this high school student is able to live. And he does this to several characters that hang around him, and it seems they are all masochist because they allow him to abuse them to abuse them. Because the MC does not care about anyone else’s situation as long as he can take care of his mother and sister.

3. MC lives by the motto if you screw him he will get you and most likely kill you. And if you help him you will not lose out. Unless you misunderstand what he say then he will take advantage of you. Spoiler alert the scene that made me stop reading this junk story

The MC decides to challenge a level 6 dungeon by himself, the woman he is walking with is very abrasive and rude cursing is her nature. But when she sees him enter the portal even though following him in is almost sure death she does it. And she is even prepared to take point and protect him, even though she is rude she meant well and had no bad purpose there. But he beats her because he does not like her rudeness and because she is stealing XP and achievement points from him. This girl has no clue about these things, they don’t benefit her at all are anyone on earth so how is she steal. Then in the end because he bit off more than he could chew in the level 6 dungeon with the big bosses, he killed her so he could level up since that was easier. So much for not killing fellow human. Then he beat her brother at a news conference after he arranged for the press to pressure him on what happened mine you the brother is not a hero and shares a love/ hate with the sister. But I know if the situation was reversed and it was that guy soloed a dungeon and the MC sister was caught up in it and died as a result; when the guy exited the portal he would have died also then and there. Maybe even if the sister survived. So this was my final straw of this train wreck of a story. <<less
