I've just saw so many bullsh*ting comments that I need to say something, it's a perfect novel for MEN, the MC loves battles, love fight and love kill his enemies, whats wrong with that?

When I saw that was some "ISEKAI" novel I thought that this was just some cliche as always, but no, this novel is amazing, well wrtited, no indecise MC, no sh*t dramatical romance (sadly not even a bit of romnce till chap 200) and this novel makes my blood boil.

In simple words: this novel is something like... more>> hunt a dragon in skyrim very hard difficulty while listening the guitar solo of through the fire aand the flames.

PS: If u like some ga... ops, novels with MC going to another world, getting some s*upid girls with some tyrant guy lusting for them and making some s*upid things, please go read another novels u will not like this one.

PS2: I'm sorry for my poor words, I'm brazilian so I'm not that good speak english and i've just wake up and saw so many guys low rating and saying lies about one of my favorite novels so I'm not at my best. <<less

This novel features an MC that smashed his way through all problems and crises with absolute violence and lack of finesse. Expecting an 'Everything according to keikkaku' character is an impossibility here. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ To this novel because the author does the unconventional thing and put a character that is usually a side-character to a hero in an isekai novel as the MC.

What could possibly go wrong here?

Incredibly underrated novel, but definitely understandable why it is, as the first 100 or so chapters of it is quite underwhelming. From the start you’d expect something generic, but that turned out to not be the case at all.

I am not saying it’s perfect as it does have quite a few flaws like sometimes being a bit too wordy about things that don’t really need an explanation or as previously mentioned the first 100 or so chapters. But one of the things that shines the most is world building, or maybe in this case universe building. A lot of these progression type novels would have the MC start out in the weakest kingdom out of the weakest world in the weakest galaxy or something like that. But here the world that the MC is on stays relevant the whole time as the Mycroft civilization also has a kind of power progression. Apart from the start, where it’s more the MC fighting and powering up quickly, the novel story is honestly centered around civilizations, mainly MC’s civilization, but quite a few others too. Their rise and fall and how they deal with chaos. Speaking of chaos, the universe is genuinely dark and dreadful, giving off a feeling of hopelessness with the kind-of- eldritch like beings (evil gods) that seem unbeatable wandering through the void.

Frankly if you’ve read the first 100 chapters, then you’re probably thinking what in the world I’m on about as what I’ve described doesn’t match well at all, but what I’m trying to say is that the novel does bring about a lot of surprises with its honestly quite well thought out plot and world as of chapter 932. The first 100 chapters are honestly weird as they gave me the feeling that the author knew it was kind of a mess, but then recollected himself and then started to plan it out, making it a far more enjoyable novel. Anyway, let’s address the most common complaint: the MC.

Dude fights head on, not thinking all that much about it because he just loves the actual fighting which I do find enjoyable and actually understandable as he transmigrates from a Utopian sort of Earth where there is no real outlet for his love of fighting beyond the games he played. I disagree with people saying he’s s*upid as he just kind of does what he wants to do, he doesn’t care about the schemes and its schemers and instead faces it head on.

Very slight spoilers about the MC:

Spoiler

He doesn’t lose that one track mind, so if anyone thinks that, then they’re in for disappointment. However he does mellow out a bit more as the story progresses as he comes to care for his world and the people around him. His reasons for fighting kind of comes together with both the love he has for the fight itself and protecting his civilization and its people.

[collapse]

Regarding romance:

Spoiler

There is nothing as of 932 and I can say straight out that it’s not gonna happen, some people will be disappointed by it of course. But honestly, the MC was never the type of person to be interested as his true love was always fighting! However, he does sort of have children of his own in a way.

[collapse]

His cheat is pretty standard as far as these types of novels go as it comes from the game but does have a few surprises of its own.

Medium-ish spoiler about the cheat:

Spoiler

It’s not going to stay in the novel as it gets destroyed by the MC becoming far too powerful for it to calculate how powerful he is, so power progression becomes far less gamified later on which might sound like a bad thing, but the power progression on its own is far more interesting later on.

[collapse]

So, let’s talk about the cultivation system, early on it’s really damn basic and honestly not very interesting as it’s just more or less a straight power up between ranks. Iron rank? Meh, Silver rank? Meh, Gold rank? Still kind of meh. With supreme rank it does come with some diversity in three different ways. But the by far more interesting rank is Legend as each legendary is very different from each other and stay relevant all the way through the story. It’s not like in other novels where they suddenly become as common as dirt after the MC gets there. Legend stays as a very central and relevant power throughout. That’s not to say there isn’t a big difference between early legend and late legend as far as power scaling goes, but they’re all powerful overall which was something I really liked.

Slight spoilers about legendary rank:

Spoiler

They become more like energy, the ones they are focused on, one legendary being can be made out of light for example while another is made out of a star or a planet. This combined with that their abilities are based around their own energy makes each of them unique. This also translates into some legends being better at doing X thing rather than Y for example, which could be building certain things that would otherwise be impossible without a legend on that path or being able to rally and manage those under legend. It comes into play quite a bit later on.

[collapse]

Another thing that the novel does well is that it doesn’t forget many characters, as in most of them stay relevant through out. There are still some that are forgotten (minor characters introduced very early on), but in general the important characters who get introduced stay relevant, even the weak ones who are far, far away from the MC in power.

The battle scenes are good too, very satisfying as the MC bashes things into oblivion. The MC also has his own territory that gets developed further as the story goes on, but the MC himself doesn’t really care about managing and such, but sometimes there are chapters dedicated to explaining how the territory has developed, but that also ties in to the how civilization itself develops. Another thing to mention is that there are a decent chunk of different pov chapters, especially so later on as the focus becomes a bit less about the MC himself and more the Mycroft civilization as a whole.

All in all, not a novel without flaws, but it’s certainly not generic either. And it’s also criminally underrated here as a 3.1 might as well be a 1.5/5 on this website and an instant ignore for a lot of people. Personally I’d rate it 4.5/5, but I round it up to 5.

Truthfully, it's not the best story out there but it's ridiculously low rated. I actually rate it 3.8/5. The MC is battle freak muscle head and the author likes to drag things but the MC is surprisingly quite enjoyable simply because he doesn't enjoy killing people but the fighting. MC is good natured and not dumb at all. Read it if you enjoy an op protagonist fighting happily in a fantasy world with approaching dangers.

Idiotic MC whose only advantage is being able to muscle his way out of any situation. I wouldn't mind it if it weren't for the fact he gets a power-up out of nowhere making his future knowledge little use when he is given god tier stuff without any need of it. Don't expect anything and still end up disappointed and mind you the author seems to pad some useless fight scenes with grunts (along with useless dialogue with crap tr*shtalk)

I agree with ultimate, this novel is ridiculously low rated, to simplify. If you have read the following novels:breakers, I am supreme and the legend of ling tian. Its practically the combination of this novels. We have a game system reincarnated inside the game which turns out to be a real world, we have an MC thats practically ling tian without the scheming, with knowing ultimate skills from the past (future) confused about this maybe later I'll correct it, and he is the guardian of his territory like MC from... more>> I am supreme plus having skills from other games which makes it easy to envision how it looks like or its area of effect.

So far so good hope the novel gets better as it goes. <<less

This novel is like stinky tofu or any kind of smelly foods : if you like it then 5-stars, if you don't like it then 1-star.

As for my reason for liking it : MC is a muscle-headed battle maniac. While he is not an idiot he simply won't bother to think about trivial things. Reason for his transmigration? Kingdom building? Harem collecting? Finding the secret of the world? Screw all of that! Let's just fight!

I'm reading it for entertainment anyway, not for studying war tactics and conspiracy theory, social and... more>> market structures, how to circulate qi, or even learning philosophy. All I need is awesome battle scenes! <<less

The storytelling style is very annoying. Usually, in these “redo” stories, the future is told to us and the overall goal is clear. However that’s not the case here. The main character seems to wander around aimlessly. The fights are boring because he’s far too powerful. It feels like I’m watching a guy stepping on ants for no reason.

It's a light novel which gets better as it progress. First it's just about a guy who likes to fight and don't care about much else. I often found myself spacing out when reading these chapters. Later it gets deeper. Characters starts to speak great words that I even wrote in my 'quotation book'. Scientific facts, philosophy - you get it all. It almost feels like proper literature.

Aside from the first 100 chapters being weird and confusing this novel actually gets better around chapter 110 or so. It has a very similar setting as Experimental Log of the Crazy Lich the only difference is that the MC Joshua is a brute and loves to battle very much. I also love how the author gives the readers small hints before unveiling the major plots of the story so it doesn't makes you think the author is just pulling shits out of his ass and stuff. Anyways I recommend... more>> this novel to everyone who wants to take a break from your usual xianxia/wuxia kinds of novel. 5/5 for sure ♥. <<less

MC transmigrates to a world that is almost a complete copy of the VRMMO game he was playing. It's a great premise but unfortunately, executed in a mediocre way. It could have been so much better...

Translation is considered top notch except for the excessive use of Japanese names in skills, creatures, etc. It's not a big issue but it's rather annoying, i.e. instead of using XXXX Breathing Method skill, it's XXXXX Kyouko-ho. Was the novel translated for Japanese readers? That aside, the main reason why it's rated poorly here and... more>> ranked so low in Webnovel is because of the author. There's a lot of history, background, wikipedia info dump on many things. If it happens now and then, that's fine for building story immersion. But when it happens constantly over and over again, readers call it filler and info dump. A commenter in Webnovel said he/she enjoyed it and gave example of books like Lord of the Rings, Robert Jordan novels, and many others that put in these drawn out descriptions for immersion. I didn't want to call them out on it but whether it was 300 pages or 1000 pages, it's still $6.99 for the book. Chinese authors are getting paid by the word so do you really think the author did it for immersion? And happens to do it constantly for everything introduced where it takes up 1/4 of the chapter?

Battles are drawn out because of word count, but as others like to say, lots of descriptions to give the reader immersion once again. The storyline is supposed to be really interesting but there's really nothing that interesting about a MC hacking and slashing his way through stuff. There's no comedy, no excitement, no intrigue, it's kinda like reading an encyclopedia.

I say give it a try because people have different tastes and opinions. For me, I will still keep reading but will usually bank a bunch of chapters before I will continue with it. <<less

Pretty lackluster, there's nothing interesting in this novel at all

What I've felt after reading this series was just that the whole novel itself is just praising the greatness of the MC and nothing more. There's no depth to the story and each enemies are just there to highlight on how magnificent the MC, while the side characters are there to be amazed by him. That's all

tl;dr, action video game transportation man beats the heck out of everything with less dignity than a saturday morning cartoon villain.

Just another "turn off your brain" story from QI. Like it or leave it, just don't get your expectations up. Or have any expectations at all, to be honest.

MC is a hot headed idiot who just hulk smashes his way through each chapter and plot consistency is all over the place. The human element is pretty lacking, too, and romance? What is that? Can you eat it? You are only... more>> going to read this to watch the MC curb stomp everything including the kitchen sink (and the rest of the house, because he can). It's a shame, though, since it feels like there is actually a story here, but "rule of cool" dragged mud all through house while MC was smashing the plates and bending the forks.

Spoiler

He seriously almost turned into a DBZ character for some reason. I must have gained a new wrinkle in my brow over that one.

[collapse]

But really, don't expect any consistency or human relations. Read this to experience all of the hecks get squished out of things with extreme prejudice and don't get hung up on missed opportunities or you will get sad. <<less

It's too early to give a proper review to the novel. I deducted 2 points bcoz of the MC. I am not sure what kind of MC the author trying to write. Initially MC appeared smart talented and experienced with tendency for fighting too much or being blood thirsty but then he becomes muscle headed arrogant and s*upid. He alone makes me unable to enjoy the novel. Hopes the author rectifies it soon

I like the setting of the story and the characters but the story telling is just awe full, the MC is a chatterbox and the author tends to explain way to much and loose focus on the story by adding irrelevant exposition to it.

Its like when you go to lunch to with your friend and ask him what's his having and he said "burger" then suddenly he explain the origin of the cow, how they are raise, how are they killed, the process of the cultivation of the "Bun" how... more>> are they planted, how are they process and bake, then he proceeds to tell you how its cook and prepared. I see a pattern on Novel Updates where almost 90% of content from Qidian/Webnovel is downrated even when in some cases novels actually deserve better rating than that. Soul of Searing Steel is another such case. I simply cannot believe that 33% of people rated this novel with 1 star. It does not deserve such low rating.

Story - 2.5/5

The story is definitely there but nothing new. Our MC is reincarnated in to a game world which he was playing when he died in 'game'. From there starts the legend of... more>> our MC. While initially there might be some skepticism about how MC is so combat hungry (almost beast like in his thirst for combat), there is a back story. However, it is only revealed around chap 300+. The theme of the story is very similar to Sin City LN. Different planes, large beasts/structures and planetary battles etc. And our MC is a saviour of all the worlds out there while bringing life to dying worlds and protecting the worlds from corruption of evil (abbys/evil gods -fallen races).

Writing - 2.5/5

I have to say, to truly enjoy this novel, I would recommend developing the skill of skimming. The chapters are very long and biggest problem is that they 'FEEL' long. The author has this tendency to explain and give unnecessary lore in each chapter which covers 50% of initial length. In addition, the fights in the latter arcs last till F*ing 10 chapters (10 long chapters). Its almost like reading DragonBallZ but in novel format rather than manga.

MC - 3/5

There have been a lot of comments that MC is just a brute or dumbass who only uses brute strength to power through any situation. Well, to me this is a breath of fresh air and I happen to like such novels. So I guess that one depends on personal preference.

World Building - 3.5/5

This is one of the better aspects of the LN. The first 100 chapters may seem a bit slow, but they built a good solid world for reader's imagination. The characters, while not really interesting at-least seem consistent and constant. Till now, all the characters that were introduced since chapter 1 are still mostly relevant. Which is at-least better than other CN LNs where every arc introduces sh*t ton of characters. No, here the characters and environment remains the same. The MC goes to other worlds sometimes to save these worlds. But his main goal is to save his own world. This gives a sense of relatability and stability to novel rather than those IET and other such novels where each arc introduces a new world, new support characters and antagonists.

I SINCERELY URGE PEOPLE TO TAKE THE NU RATINGS WITH PINCH OF SALT (ONLY FOR NOVELS WHICH ARE LISTED ON WEBNOVELS) - THERE SEEMS TO BE A TENDENCY TO DOWNVOTE ANY NOVEL FROM WEBNOVEL (EXCEPT FOR TRULY EXCEPTIONAL ONES) - I CONCEDE THAT THERE ARE SEVERAL NOVELS ON WEBNOVEL WHICH ARE JUST SHITTY AND THEIR VIRTUAL CURRENCY SYSTEM IS JUST ATROCIOUS.

But many good/decent/meh novels are not being provided fair chance due to trolls down rating such decent/meh novels to 1 star. <<less

It seemed like darksouls type of fantasy with an adult cast focus until MC gets a weapon that transforms into a little girl called Ying. Ying seemed out of place. One character assumed differently and thought MC was a pedo and another character mentioned child labour after assuming she worked for him.
