This novel is good... unfortunately due to the useless author who has no clue how to end a novel it's gone to the crapper.

The world building was interesting, and you could the see the novel was going good and was planned out, unfortunately as I see it, the author just got sick of this novel. And just did not want to release it anymore.

And now he's giving us crap with a tiny little spoon. Every chapter comes once every 1-2 months. And he's coming up with absurd plot-armor for the... more>> MC and stuff that wasn't mentioned at all in the past. Like the current chapter 491/492, he's talking about a place which was not mentioned before some "supreme abyss" bullsh*t that was mentioned literally 1-2 chapters ago, but it's mentioning that some guy "Du Ze" who I don't even remember he is in the first place, some random character from 100 chapters ago, has to go there because of some reason. And now the MC remembers "ah there was that old man inside there" And it's being linked randomly to Emperor Kong Ming. Agh... it was a good novel, but author-nim crapped on it, and is now giving us spoonfuls of it, and tells us to enjoy the quantity that we receive.

Even though the novel is crap nowadays, I still read but the only reason I even still read this is because I'm 500-chapters in. I am normally a person that hates seeing novels discontinued but if the author is going to spew garbage like this every month I would just preffer he gets a super strong weapon that he forgot he had in a mountain on some planet with which he just kills the Sage emperor and be done with it. I would give zero stars if it was possible. <<less

In my entire life, I have read only 4 novels (including this), so my taste in the novel may not exactly be good. However, I have read lots of mangas, including the Chinese and Korean ones and I came to read the novel from reading this novel's manhua so my taste in the plot should be on point.

Review:

The plot for this novel is absolutely amazing. It's without a doubt in the top ranking. The reason is cus I like plots where the main character is op as well as staying... more>> low on profile. However I don't like it when the MC is too op, cus it just ruins the entire plot (Ahem* Fcking majority of the isekais and Chinese rebirth sh*t stories).

However, the writing is quite mediocre, I mean I don't have the right to say this cus I barely read novels and like have no experience on how novels are written, but like the writer keeps on saying the same thing over and over again every chapter ("His main enemy is the Sage emperor" and "he has faced problems far more worse in his previous life") Like no sh*t sherlock, I obviously know that. It's good that he keeps reminding but like doing it on like almost every chapter it gets quite annoying tbh.

I am sure you have seen the rating for this novel, you can see that 15% of the votes are 1*, I am assuming that those people's main issue is the upload rate, cus madsnail upload rate is very slow, on top of it he uploads small paragraph.

Overall, the story is amazing, absolutely love it, I definitely recommend reading this.

since I am more of a "plot" guy, I am gonna give it a 5* <<less

This was my first Xianxia novel so I may be slightly biased, however, it's easy to tell that TDG is getting lots of undeserved hate.

The plot: It has a standard power system with ranks and whatnot, and the driving factors in the MC's motivation are noble and respectable. A clear end goal is established from the start. This novel has a very strong start where the MC's knowledge from his previous life is extremely useful in his everyday activities. The worldbuilding is great for the first 300~ chapters. The sad... more>> part is that there is an unmistakable drop in quality near the 350~ mark where the author just said f*ck it and started handing out powerups like Oprah handing out cars. In lieu of that, the overall plot is kept consistent. However, this author has essentially forgotten this novel so it won't end until 2050 if ever, with its release date of 1 ch per 30 days.

MC: I don't really understand the hate behind the MC's character and values. He is one of the more virtuous MCs that I've seen. His motivation is literally to save the entire universe. He is, of course, arrogant sometime and will be overbearing to vicious people, but he treats his friends and family extremely well. He is essentially omniscient so it is natural for him to feel like he is above most people. He was essentially a god in his last life. Another thing that draws me to him is that even though he got lucky with finding a treasure, it only helped him conceal himself, and in no way shape or form made him cultivate faster. He was hundreds of years old and rose to the pinnacle through hard work.

Harem: In this whole novel, there are 2 actual love interests with one thrown in near the end (However the MC does not reciprocate at all, he's loyal asf). He is definitely pushy towards his main love interest, but it is mostly understandable since they became lovers in his past life (Just 3 years after the starting events of the story.)

Overall I would recommend this novel as it is great near the beginning. It starts slowly dropping in quality and I have lost most of my hope of a satisfying ending. On the bright side, the manga is great and releases regularly. <<less

this novel are good for me... I love how the world are growing, how the MC become stronger not in "rambo" style, instead slay whole enemy by him self, he gain the power by people around him... Nie Li are non-regular Hero like many story out there...

I am very impressed to this novel. Really. From Manga, Anime and to Novel, I can’t help myself being excited. I started reading this novel last week. November 20, 2018 and I finished reading it up to the latest chapter November 25, 2018. I can’t wait until this novel is completed. I also wish that you can publish it on Books, I will definitely look for it and add it to my collection. Right now, even though I am done reading this novel up to the latest chapter, I can’t... more>> help reading it again and again. I thought it was only available on Manga and Anime, but when I found out that this is also available in Novel, I searched for available websites and even books for me to read.

To the author Mad Snail, I hope you publish a book of this novel, and I also wish to see you to get your autograph personally. I can’t help myself be amazed on how great this novel is.

To new readers, this novel isn’t just worth reading. It is worth a lot more. <<less

The novel is the best because it has a very interesting story. It also makes the reader feel good after reading it and makes your day nice. There is lot of potential for growth and there are a lot of mysteries that need to be resolved making it very addicting.

First half is the best novel of this genre, easy 5/5.

However second half is disappointing, instead of continuing with plot author creates a new world that is cheap reskin of original to start again but recycles too much of plot and too many characters.

It was kinda great at first but then the MC became an arrogant jerk because he came back to time when he was still a kid with a tr*sh talent and then got more powerful than the previous him were, what I didn't like about this novel is that like other novels out there is always a protagonist that has an idea to start a harem, I don't really know if he is intentionally doing it or he just don't want to hurt the women. Its actually good, I only read it because of manga and I enjoyed the novel

There was a lot of problems with the story though like broken grammar or there a mistake the author did (iirc, Jindan the dragon should be 5-7 meters tall, but from what I read, he's small again. That doesnt really bother me tho :))

I really like this novel, I'm not very experienced in chinese novels, but what I can say is that this novel made me read like a beast. I've read other reviews, I don't feel that nie li is a bad MC, he is egotistic? Yeah, but I belive he has the right to be like that, he is not one to step on some weakling, he helps the ones with honor and will to protect, and destroys the strong and egotistic.

Does he show off? To us, the readers, yes, but... more>> in the story he restrains himself, it's fun to see some arrogant be beaten by a guy like nie li.

Are the secondary characters bland? No. They are SECONDARY characters, of course they ain't gonna have that much personality or growth. But for some secondary characters, they are very likeable, the girls have some remarkable personality, and it's not some kind of, "i show off here, and never show my personality nor character again" they show constantly a sea of personality like how a real girl would do.

In the end, it has some cliches but is very likeable and fun, totally recommended <<less

This is best chinese light novel in my view. Normally chinese light novel martial arts always MC is weak but find a way the speak his ancestors or find a super-item/treasure. This is not mean bad but I m not interested. In other stories like reincarnation of thief, he kills other people like step in the ants, does not explain the right path the others. Other people no chance the live. But this story, MC is awesome. I wish this light novel became real anime not like cheap way in... more>> doing right now. <<less

Only problem is that currently, author's release is really slow. If you like eternity, This one will take that long.

Regardless. Even if the story almost does not move. The existing events before that is really interesting.

I actually really enjoy this novel, the story is amazing and even though you have a lot of random coincidences the MC is never too powerful or amazing. There is always another challenge and the MC isn't an idiot who just charges in but rather is the type of character who plans and gathers strength until the time is right, this made for a much better story.

The novel does have the cliche of MC moves to a new area, some young master picks a fight, the MC wins and moves... more>> to a new area. Rather than make this a one or two step process the author draws it out in a way that is actually interesting and exciting. You get all the other cliche things as well in this novel such as a test to go to the higher levels, underestimating the MC, bets turn into friendships, a harem which seems bad.

The MC is a bit bland, he doesn't change at all and his tendency to have all the answers from being from the future make him less interesting, the side characters however are really interesting. Many of them are cool and get really well flushed out, only to end up following the MC around like puppies or as part of his harem. I wish they had done more with the spirit creatures that they use, maybe make it more like the charm of soul pets, but overall it isn't too bad.

The main reason I rate this novel two stars is the rate at which it is being updated, the chapters aren't long enough for a once-a-month schedule to work. I realize this is probably due to the actual author or something but it makes it so that you can't really enjoy the story anymore. <<less

I personally love this series. Like many others in its genera, the MC is god tier. However I disagree with the many low rating reviews. While there are many tropes and cliches, there has been an abundant amount of growth for the wide cast of characters. 'Watching' the characters grow in personality, ability, and understanding of the world, has kept me reading chapter after chapter, always yearning for more.

- For those who compare to other works, such as Naruto, I dont think its something that can be compared, they are... more>> simply to distinctive to be grouped within the same category in my opinion. O

- Story is great. Take the work for what it is and you may enjoy it as I do. <<less

I've seen a lot of people complaining becouse MC's ego is huge, he has no respect of elder people, he always humiliate enemies ecc.

This is actually the thing I like the most, the story is good and it is well written. If u don't like that kind of MC you should read something else.

One of the novel that I recommend tonuou guys to read!

The story started out very well written! The MC is very smart and knows how to act depends on the situations! It is funny in some parts and will make you cry in some. Overall story is very good!

I didn't rate it 5 star because of *spoiler* the recent (400+) chapters where the release of the translation is very scarce due to the fact that the translation caught up with the authors recent chapters and the big big big fact... more>> that the recent flow of the story is not my cup of tea with the romantic events fighting for a girl etc. So I'll wait wait wait until this part is over lmao.

Anyway I still recommend it.

Despite being a good novel (the set up, story development, no rinse and repeat, as well as the character growth) I still give it 1/5, for the simple reason, this one isn't going to have a good ending (if any) because the author doesn't care about it anymore. so the odds of being dropped/halted/rushed ending.... etc are extremely high, the only glimmer of hope is the manhua. as it seems to be doing rather well, however it will still take few years.

If you read the last chapter, you will notice... more>> that it doesn't take a month to write such a shallow one, it can even be resumed in few words and you won't miss anything.

Too bad, it was a good one.

PS: If the author name is "mad snail" read at your own risk, since he is know for dropping his work to start new one. <<less

the most unique charisma of this novel is it being the first to be read by majority of light novel readers (most of them started as manga readers). Also if you have read it you would never be able to stop yourself from trying other novels which you may eventually drop.

A good read. It was my first light novel and since then I am hooked up in them. It would have been better with quick releases.

Not sure whether to laugh or cry.

TDG was my very first webnovel I read. To conclude, it is quite appropriate to state a review on your first experience, lucky it was not that gore like you expected from first time experience.

To make things short: MC is not just OP, he somehow got an OP memory too. I barely remember what I ate last week but he can do that across ages and time. Story unfold very generic, somehow if you also read the manga adaption prior or while at it... more>> (but do not imagine the scenes converted in the manga 1:1) make a quite positive impression of this novel.

Read the other reviews for spoilers but realistic speaking. Currently, it is not worth reading !!

I don't need to be a Data Scientist to see the current release flow. Anyhow my OCD keeps telling me to continue reading it once a new chapter is out every month. So in hope my prediction comes true and with end of 2017 Nie Li make it back to Divine Feathers Sect.____. <<less

I really like this novel but sometimes the MC just makes me angry with his lovers and his stalking in the early chapters but I really hope it becomes a little bit better now and that he says Yu Yan that he knows about the Temporal Demon Spirit Book and that he rejects that girl of the Divine Feathers Sect
