I have some small issues with this series, but this is also so far the only webnovel I've had the patience to finish reading even the raws of. Overall, definitely enjoyed the read.

Things I liked:

  • Tang Feng's character. In the beginning he seems unrealistically calm in some extreme situations, but at the same time I can really appreciate a character who knows how to handle himself in any situation rationally. It's a matter of finding a balance to having a calm, rational character who isn't unrealistic and to the point that he's cold and unfeeling--the author may be a little off in that, but it's not really a big issue to me for the most part. Another thing about Tang Feng that is unlike most transmigration characters is that he's not petty or gloating to those who've treated him badly in his past life or in his current life. He's genuinely a very mature character who I like and can very much enjoy having as the main character.
  • Every person in his harem (yes he has a harem lmao) has their own personalities. Maybe that's some low standards but honestly I'm happy that they don't act the same exact way with the MC.
  • Story is interesting. A tad bit too dramatic for my taste but still entertaining.
  • Show business! What's not to like.
Things I... more>> disliked:

  • Mentioned before, but MC sometimes is too calm and comes off as cold and unfeeling. The author definitely could have fleshed out his weak side a little more. I love reading about strong MCs--one reason why I love Tang Feng so much, but I also think his character would be so much more fleshed out if the author had gone more into his emotional struggles with his past life / current dilemmas.
  • Spoiler

WHY DOES HE GET KIDNAPPED SO MUCH I came here to read about a badass MC killing it in the entertainment industry, why is he being held at gunpoint and kidnapped all the time. Pls author if I wanted to read about some gangster novel I would have done that to begin with ahhhh.

    [collapse]
If you read this far into my review, then thank you! Last thing I have to say is that if you like badass, intelligent and charismatic MCs making his way into the show biz (the second time around lmao) with a sprinkle of some wayward action stuff and drama, you'd probably like this novel. <<less

The end of V1 Chapter 3 and beginning of Chapter 4 made me barf in my mouth. It was absolutely horrendous. I was expecting a lot after reading the reviews.

Hey, the first chapters weren't that bad.

Then OUT OF NOWHERE the MC gets drugged?? And r*peD 😃

... more>> Now this, because I've been trained to by reading other Yaoi - I could somehow tolerate

But

At the beginning of Chapter 4 the MC is shown to not give a sh*t about what happened, even considering his rapist’s technique good.

It was actually appalling to me.

I just feel like these chapters were invalidating the experiences of people who have actually being r*ped, because of how its been made to seem ‘normal’/not a big deal. <<less

I strongly suggest this novel, for both Yaoi fangirls and fanboys and straight people since the s*xual parts aren't the focus do the story and are quite implicit. To sum it up, it's NOT p*rn with no plot (which may be a bummer to some) and has great characterization.

MC kinda annoyed me bec im thinking, how did he get that famous with that EQ? Lyk I feel he forgot he's not in his A-list Hollywood body anymore. He's not a bigshot anymore but I don't see a difference in the way he acts, which was an attractive point in the pov of the MLs, sure. But in the eyes of the public, he's a no-name actor. If this was in reality, this guy would be bashed so terribly. So I just couldn't connect with him.

Heck. Just when I was wondering about these men's moral conduct (bcs their thinking is simply crazy and weird for me, I just can't understand, srry) I found out that this is a HAREM (my fault for not noticing the tag). Welp, even more reason for me to drop this novel, cause I hate harem teribbly. No offense for harem readers🖐️

Honestly at first I thought Charles is the ML because MC sleeps with him, but then MC just straight up flirting with another man. I was like "wtf????? No I... more>> want a faithful MC not the playboy vibe mc". Then I saw the tag and think -no wonder🙂🙂 <<less

Ok, I'm not far enough to give an overall review but here are the things that really bothered me at the start of this novel.

  • MC was r*ped but was damn calm in the face of the rapist because apparently he has a heart disease which made him so calm. Patients with heart disease are human too and they will surely not be calm after being r*ped.
  • MC is supposed to be a film emperor something in his past life but he is ok in selling his body to his rapist for an opportunity. I mean, entertainment industry is a gray area and some people definitely sold their body for the same thing. But in his past life, he apparently took care of his image and not much such contact with other people because he can't be too excited. Because he has a heart disease. How could that person be so "okay" in such a thing? There wasn't even a mental struggle presented.
This novel is too s*upid for me, I can't continue.

All I have to say has already been said but not many have seen so here, I’ll copy and paste it for you cuz Everyone keeps saying how great it is but I really don’t see it, I feel like everyone’s views are way off cuz this story is plain sleazy...

“Simply overrated... The story gets too draggy.... If you have nothing to read, then read it... Like some reviewers have said the author made the MC and showbiz WTF....1. The story gives you a notion that if you want... more>> to become a successful actor/actress its okay to use your body and then enjoy it as well while you're on it, which is exactly the MC is doing.

2. He's weak. He got swayed by the people who used him for s*x and end up falling in love with them (harem). He end up bottoming for each and everyone of them.

3. It doesn't live to its title. The scenes of him escapading and interacting with his harem is more recognizable than him becoming a true star.

4. Instead of a showbiz story (true star) since the author gives a title thats gives you an idea that its a journey and struggles to become a star but sadly the story is not like that.

5. Its like a path of how to make good use of your body to become a star while gaining men's favor on the run. It was emphasized all through out the story. If you want a good yaoi showbiz talent story this is not for you.” <<less

Rebirth of Chen An, the showbiz version. It's difficult to bring yourself to care about the male leads and, even if you manage that, it's harder to convince yourself to like them because just about all of them have come off rather psychotic. I feel that the MC is rather... careless with his feelings I guess? Now I'm all for cold/calculating characters, but Fiennes feels more emotionally stunted than anything else; even after being sold, r*ped, or his life/safety in jeopardy, he doesn't doesn't seem to be able to feel... more>> anything beyond mild annoyance. Unfortunately, even the showbiz parts of the novel are... lackluster? Somehow, they bore me to death even more than the "emotional" chapters.

All in all, it's a very 'meh' novel for me. I wouldn't call it bad at all, it's just that I don't particularly care for the MC, dislike 3 (of what looks like 4) of the male leads, and the underlying plot is very draggy and repetitive, despite not saying much of anything. Plus, the author's obsession with Robert Downy Jr is a little bit... off-putting? Embarrassing? It just makes some chapters/sentences a little difficult to read without wanting to face palm. <<less

this series is a bit overrated. It has a decent amount of smut but the interesting parts of the stories occur mainly into the beginning. After that the story takes a cringey turn and introduces very awkward and weird story lines and situations (yes, even more than the opening when the MC is literally forced to prostitute for one of the harem members).

Only the MC's boss has any real chemistry or appreciation for him as a person. He tried to better understand the MC and knows how important acting is... more>> for the MC. The other MLs are shallow and only appreciate his body or that he's "different" from other peoole. There's this underlying skeeziness about the characters when the authors adds the underworld into it and it dealienates from the showbiz quite a lot.

Two of the MLs come across as highly misogynistic and obnoxious. They're very annoying and pretty much ruin the story. It feels like they were shoehorned in for no reason or they've passed their expiration date.

I also find it strange that no one seems to care that the MOST FAMOUS AND SUCCESSFUL Chinese actor, even if he was Chinese-American, died. It's a passing mention but doesn't have much influence on the story line besides the fact that he is now the MC. I find that strange since everyone keeps saying Hollywood and Western media is the IT place to be for a Chinese Actor. <<less

I'm not good at writing reviews, but I have to say - this is a REALLY good novel. I feel sad that we don't have too many novels with an intelligent, practical and level headed MC like this one. Tang Feng is my favourite for now. The love interests could've been better but I guess that's part of the novel's charm. Overall it's really good and I've rated it 5. (May change later) The translation quality is very good which makes reading enjoyable. I just wish they'd have straight... more>> romances that are this good. Waiting for quicker updates! :) <<less

I think this is overrated. I like the series, but I wouldn't call it a 5 star 'yet'. The main lead is considerate but total uncaring when it comes to relationships, leading me to wonder how there ever will be romance involved. There's s*x and potential partners, but that's just about it. I hope to see more romance develop waay faster, then I will RE-rate this...

Although I'm not a fan of yaoi, this is particularly well written and doesn't make you feel bad if you don't like that. It's told well and the events are interesting. It often leaves you curious and wanting more.

This was actually my first harem novel that I read and I was a little skeptical whether I should read it or not bcs of the diverse of reviews that were given. Half of them literally gives it 5 stars while the rest 1. There are even 342 chapters all and I wasn't sure if I was able to finish it all.

Well first of all, I read some reviews that were mad at the MC sacrificing his body without a complaint. The thing is at that time there are no... more>> other options in my opinion as well. Other than that there were no moments that he slept with someone or any of his MLs just for money or resources.

This is a good to great read and I will probably only read this once. For those who feel like they will not be able to take the harem then there's no worry as the story flows quite smoothly in that part and at the end you might will not be able to choose the best ML for the MC simply because all of them have their own strength but also weaknesses.

Each of the ML is just so different that the experience the MC go through with each of them is just fun to read and simply lovable. The MC is extremely OP but I quite like it actually. The story itself has got almost no angst what-so-ever but there are some hard moment for the MC that makes the story more interesting than you will actually imagine.

Lastly, I would recommend this story to people who enjoy leisure novels that is filled with fluffiness and OPness. Almost all chapters are really short which is why it doesn't really feel like a 300+ chapters novel. If you are thinking about reading it then I surely say you should try it at least and see how it goes~ <<less

Honestly the premise is interesting but I’m really tired of how the MC is being r*ped and pushed around by these alpha young males. He doesn’t have much chemistry with the favorite ML either.

I'm going to be saying this in response to most of the negative reviews on here. First of all, the MC doesn't let himself be bought for favors. He literally repeatedly says at the beginning that he is "not a toy or object for someone to use, " and avidly curse the people who think he is, including the Mls.

Spoiler

The only reason why he bottomed for Charles at the beginning was because of the contract the 'original' Tang Feng had with him.

[collapse]

The MC is actually very strong-willed - in a way that he's able to stand people belittling and insulting him. Of course, he gets back at all those people at some point.

Spoiler

When [God-I-forgot-his-name] kidnapped Tang Feng, the dude literally bashed him in the head, tied him up, threw him in a bathtub, and proceeded to use him to climb out the window, before Charles and Lu Tian Chen even arrived.

[collapse]

Secondly, the matter addressing the unlikability of the MLs. Both of the main Mls were definitely a little overbearing at the beginning, but not to the point of me hating them. Lu Tian Feng, in all, was a pretty 'ok' character. (Excluding Albert)

Spoiler

Lu Tian Feng does not take the initiative to force Tang Feng to have s*x with him at any point. He and Charles are opposites in that way, besides the fact that they are both egotistic and arrogant, Lu Tian Feng being more subtle until the most recent chapter.

[collapse]

Gino definitely has to be one of the guys I'm rooting for the most. His past relationship (platonic but kind of not) feeds the anticipation for the Mc's actual identity to be revealed. Also, it's nice to imagine past MC and Gino bickering and what they would have been if the MC didn't die from a heart attack.

Spoiler

Charles is definitely not my favorite character, however. The fact that he did, in fact, r*pe the MC at the beginning is inexcusable. The volume finale did make me warm up to him a bit, though.

[collapse]

The Mc's path to fame wasn't because of his body (in a s*xual way). It was much more his great experience in music, acting, cunning, and social skills. I would go as far as to say his body (again, in a s*xual way) didn't contribute to his career in the last except for

Spoiler

when Tang Feng won Dream Lover because Charles already liked him.

[collapse]

It was definitely worth my time to finish all 140 (estimate) chapters in one day. Personally, I would enjoy novels with plots similar to Rebirth of Chen An with more action and fighting, but I would say that the author True Star does so much more of a better job with writing. I highly recommend you to read this regardless of the bad reviews.

Spoiler

After Tang Feng was kidnapped, I remember Charles saying, "He was almost r*ped!" I'm pretty sure I'm an as*hole for laughing at the irony.

awful and r*pey harem novel. So far the mls have: sold MC into a s*ave contract for a month, bought MC into a s*ave contract for a month, drugged and r*ped MC, threatened mc's one decent potential love interest, probably more things I repressed

their developing relationships with MC are basically all "oh I treated him like sh*t and abused my power over him but now that he's Different and Feistier than he was before being reborn, I love him now, which means I will try to force myself on him... more>> and act possessive over him"

the one exception is gino, who fell in love with mc's past life as a famous actor and thinks MC is weirdly familiar, which would be a good starting point for a cute love story if the author did not have this track record with every other ml

0/10, would not read again. I actively lost brain cells reading this and then I lost a couple more reading the positive reviews. I hope none of you people ever get boyfriends or i'll seriously worry about your futures. <<less

I love this story! It’s definitely a must read. If you read Feng Yu Jiu Tian and love it then I definitely recommend this one. In fact, I believe it’s much better than that novel. Of course, the love interests all seem to have dubious characters and are kind of shady but you will start to fall in love with them as the story goes on. At first, I hate all the love interests because of those reasons but for some reason you just get endeared to them as they... more>> further interact with the MC. I especially love the MC. He’s independent, intelligent, and has a strong personality. I like the fact that the author didn’t make him feminine despite his beautiful appearance. His rival, Ge Chen, is pretty much this. Again, I highly recommend this novel. <<less

I wanted to give this 2 stars, but it accidentally cl**ked 1 star... So we'll go with that.

What to say... I don't like the MC, not that much. At first he's calm and collected and it's cool or whatever. But then as the novel proceeds you notice that he's a little too calm for someone who has no plan whatsoever on how to advance. Literally anyone can step on him; his comeback? "I won't allow people to turn me into a rug" How? By sleeping with all the bosses of... more>> course 😎 #hussleking #relatable

And speaking of bosses; The ML's are all conveniently attracted to that Ge Cheng guy (who's like bad guy number 1). Despite his flaws. If the ML's are as high class and unique and all that sh*t as the author emphasizes, there's no way they wouldn't have seen through his acts. So the plot goes away from MC struggling to become a great terrific actor to him competing with bad guy No.1 on the "most people slept with count". How entertaining!!!

And yes, you're reading that right; ML's. There's just too many of them. All of them "perfect" and what not. Pick a struggle author, I Wana know whose side I'm on damn it!!!!!! They might be underground lord's, but who isn't? Am I right?😅 Yeah this is one of those novels that romantices arms smugglers and mu*derers and drug dealers and kidnappers and human traffickers and rapists because they're cute and sexy and in love. How convenient!! Fortunately they're relatively young. *sigh* sh*t would've gotten real if they were older and not attractive, as is in real life. MC is not picky though. It's entertaining like that I guess.

So fellas, are you ready for a romance novel about showbiz and facesslapping white lotuses and green tea b*tches as the protagonist makes it to the top?? I hope not!! Coz that's exactly what you won't be getting in this novel!! Instead get ready for some r*pe, (it's ok, the rapist is hot😌), using s*x for favors... All. The. f*cking. Time!! Laziness, MC being the white lotus himself, and our very favorite; plot holes and novel convenient would be impossible in actual life situations!!!🎉🎉 <<less

I was searching for this! I read this years ago and really wanted to revisit, but forgot the title..

Sadly dropping it (again) despite the great translation as Harem, turns out, really wasn't for me. Learning from my past mistakes and now writing a review, so I can tell my future self as to why I dropped another novel.

I am still crying over Charles x Tang Feng, like I STILL wish they were the standalone couple. Love me some gongs that turn into a puppy for the shou but can be... more>> intimidating to outsiders. LTC is a big red flag with how he justifies himself not saving the OG Tang Feng.

I really love MC's personality, his inner dialogue and just his 'old-soul' way of carrying himself. It's nice, makes interactions with the MLs exciting and interesting. But he is however, very much a gary stu. Did irk me a bit though I loved his character too much to care. <<less

Guilty pleasure - a light and easy read. It is so satisfying to witness the calm and capable MC unleash their talents in acting and manipulation to dominate and pave way to a successful career!

However, I've detracted stars due to the MLs (yes, plural as this is a harem). I do not find the MLs likeable. They are controlling and dominating. I cannot overlook the problematic nature of the way their relationship with MC began ... more>>
Spoiler

Charles r*ped the MC in the beginning and then they entered a contracted sexual/sugar-baby esque relationship which is a yikes, LTC was disrespectful and had pimped out MC's originally and looked down on them... and third ML is psychopathic

[collapse]

The MC by far outshines the MLs. He can be quite a bit too unemotional at times, but I'd say this can be reasonable given his past experience.
Spoiler

MC had a heart condition in the past life so they had to practise maintaining calmness to avoid exacerbating their condition

[collapse]

Overall
Satisfying to read about the MC slaying the entertainment industry. MC is calm, cool, and clever.
Sadly, I do not buy into the romance which really detracts from the overall enjoyability of the novel.
