This is an incredibly interesting novel and I really love the diablo 2 part of it to be honest. But even if you don't it's a very good novel with a solid story a good MC that will kill enemies without worries but is not overly ruthless and evil like the MCs in ATG and MGA. He seems like an okay mix between japanese and chinese MCs with a good amount of ruthlessness, mercy and intelligence.

I Highly recommend this novel. Nothing much to say against it. Simply put it is one of the best in that category it takes elements from Diablo for the fans they will love it and even for those who aren't the "Main world" is fun enough with some war and kingdom (obviously) elements in it. Of course we could pick at some characters development and other things but the overall work so far is great since under 100 chapters one can consider it the "beginning". The pace is not too... more>> fast nor too slow. All in all great work just go for it. <<less

Reviewed at c65, rated 3.5 -> rounded up to 4 star.

In the beginning, the only reason I took this up was because I'm waiting for another cool novel in the translator's site. However, Hail The King was surprisingly interesting.

Its world construct was typical xianxia/xuanhuan setting conjoined with game elements. In one side, we had the MC took the body of a good-for-nothing king in a small country which owned very few power and was the brunt of jokes among other countries. On the other side, the MC got a fabulous... more>> cheat where he could power up by playing game (Diablo II) in another dimension from time to time and apply the powers he gained to establish his foothold in the country he supposed to lead.

I never played Diablo II, so I can't tell anything about whether the game elements were applied well by the Author or not. Nevertheless, I consider the Author's style in combining the two as sufficiently good. There was one other novel I've read that tried similar recipe but somehow I considered it failed in execution (Bringing The Farm To Another World). Compared with that, Hail The King was mixed better.

The MC in HTK also had a good head on his neck and a good heart in his chest, if a bit reckless. Although his development and other characters so far not very visible yet, this novel was built on hook upon hook and there seemed plenty potentials for the future.

Added postcripts after reading till final chapter by mtl:
Now, I could confidently grant HTK that 4 star rating. It's indeed very interesting, but not necessarily over the top. There were also plot flaws. One of which is the extremely short time between the time when MC started gaining strength with the time he gained deity status, also the exceedingly fast cultural development he established in the continent. It's tiring when we had to wait thousands of years for MC to be deity, but it's also disturbing to watch an MC became god in a handful of years, no matter for what made-up reason. It's like a forced utopia. And accidentally, I subjectively dislike these kinds of things.

For other readers though, HTK should be a nice read (if the plagiarized game elements don't disturb you), particularly for fans of xianxia/xuanhuan genre or transported to another world tag. The combination of both here is pretty good. You can expect to see the MC try incorporating some of modern world rules to improve the civilization through the right methods. Just read on. <<less

Review as of ch. 56.4:

An interesting blend of combat-oriented kingship and VRMMO gaming elements. (Somewhat similar to Bringing the Farm to Another World, or Tsuki ga Michibiku, except that the game-like dimensional space he connects to is the world of Diablo instead of a farm or empty space). The storyline starts off very quickly with a bang, and it's clear what kind of danger the MC is in straightaway, with his last remaining castle under siege by mysterious enemies, corrupt advisors, and foreshadowing of dangerous political undercurrents in the larger... more>> world. So far, it seems to going well, as the author is able to write an engaging narrative of both battlefield combat in the kingdom world and solo adventuring in the game world. There are some potential pitfalls to this story which haven't occurred yet, but may occur in the future - namely, that the MC's growth towards OP-ness is a little too fast. While that is good for the current situation, it may make the future story arcs of this novel harder to stay interesting. Though the writer did leave a caveat for himself to slow down progress because of the EXP-curve in the future, it remains to be seen whether he will take advantage of that. And while the story has the MC as a titular king, so far he has mostly been a battlefield war-leader due to the situation, and not much has been shown about his ability to govern or manage his territory at this time. While the MC himself seems likable enough and cool-headed under pressure, the side characters so far seem somewhat one-dimensional and too easily swayed by events. Now, this may change in the future - there's hope that the writer may be able to flesh out these characters more fully once the present emergency is solved. But as it is right now, the characters are standard tropes without much detail. Basically, the story reads like the movie "300" Spartans. If you like the glory and horror of combat in that movie, you'll get it in spades over here. Don't know if you'll get anything else beyond that at the moment, but it's magnificently written for what it is. <<less

Such a fun read. If you ever played Diablo 2 you should definitely give this one a chance.

SO FAR the story is great, but from what I've heard from some other users who have skipped ahead via MTL the story starts to tank/become incredibly monotonous after chapter 200.. Which is a shame.

So many directions they could head with it, but if it ends up just becoming another conquest epic with very little else to be provided then that would be disappointing. Which I could totally see happening, because aside from... more>> the initial world building for the most part the entire series has just been one giant battle.. And if that battle goes all energizer bunny then it could get old pretty quick. That said, this review is solely based on what I've read up until this point and for now I highly recommend it, but who knows, in the near future I may come back and edit my review. Either way I'm having a good time right now so I'll stick with it until things fall apart. <<less

I really don't know what the hell the people below me were talking about or maybe I read a different Hail the King but after reading all the released chapters all I saw was a below average novel with a fast paced story line.

It wasn't anything special at all. I really don't get why people are so hyped about it!

Average, simply average. It's not bad, it's not bad at all actually. But it's not very good either. Let's say if someone asked me my opinion I would say.. It's okay I guess?

At first the idea is very interesting, transported to another world + game world acess. But it quickly becomes very repetitive, the author did not fully utilize the possibilities of the game world and just scratch it as an ordinary diablo world, the author could definitely add emotional moments, more into depth on the reconstruction of the kingdom... more>> which would result to a fun kingdom building read at some arcs & more Interaction of the characters (Diablo or Real) but no, nope he did not do that at all. All he did was focus on the action battle scenes which is truly SUCH.A. WASTE.

The character's personality, except for the MC is mostly... very simple, it actually lacked some spice in it. Like the princess, even if she doesn't exist, the story would have flowed as it is without not much of a noticeable change. The use of football references is funny for the first one or two times but it is used repeatedly that it quickly becomes boring.

It's a good novel, worth a try but I don't get why this is so hyped. The writing style is okay, average at best. Oh well, 7.0/10 I can't say much more. This could have been so much better. <<less

It was an good premise, but definitely s*upid face-slapping brainless enemy. Throughout the middle-end part of this fic.

The return to Earth arc was alright, usual s*upid politicians still exist while trying to control MC who has superpower. Alright relationship of China-America, an pleasant surprise.

Overall, kinda repetitive but decent fic

So far, it has been pretty meh. A little different mix on the old idea of ending up in a magic world, since he can randomly go into the actual Blizzard Diablo 2 game to get stronger. It suffers a bit from having 2 magic systems that get confused. It is hard to ever tell how powerful anyone is because of this. It might say "He has a mid rank 4 star person's strength now." And then 2 pages later he easily kills a mid 5 star level person.

It is... more>> a pretty simply written story. No deep meanings or writing or plots here. Like, just below young adult level writing style, but with adult content. I mean, it is fine in some ways. You might like it. It has action. Though, the guy who wrote this doesn't seem to quite understand time management or how much time things would take. Either will get a bajillion things done every day (Teaches and is principal for like 15 classes, and running kingdom, and hanging out and etc, etc...) or gets almost nothing done. One thing I found funny was when they say that people in this world had never thought of the idea of constellations. Ha, like that is some advanced thought these medieval-ish level technology people need to be taught. Just weird little things like that all over the place. Every single bad guy will take the main star lightly and either have never heard of the main star or else didn't believe the stories they heard. So, constant "Ha, you little king think you are so much! I will show you! Hehe, you ugly ass. You are dead for sure this time! Hehehe!"

Overall, nothing super compelling here. But does have lots of fighting. Not particularly good action. But that might be enough for you. I might keep reading, or listening to it, might not. I just keep holding out that it will get better. Though, that may be unlikely. <<less

It's a very good novel, I didn't had the necessary motivation to write a review 2 years ago, but I have to let you all know how much I loved this series, I had to copy paste the words into a word doc so I can even read this offline from how much text each chapter it is and how much flavor is in each chapter.

It feels like the author incorporated his/her fantasies and wishes into the novel...I mean... c'mon... the dumb naming sense... the s*upid descriptive sentences... the way he/she emphasizes on female characters appearances or thier actions and whatsoever.... dumb!!! It would have made sense for a first time description but almost all the time?? Idiotic!! That pisses me off mostly.... chpt 246 now... and only that so called Beyonce can be considered as the only female that's on his bad side... Angela always referred to as pure here and there... stop it!!!... more>> I know already!!!!..😠😠 <<less

Surprisingly good. Randomly stumbled upon this and I’m glad I did. Don’t think that there we’re too many dull moments as I don’t remember myself to have skimmed over too much of this novel which is quite uncommon for me as too many novels nowadays are much too disappointing and aren’t worth reading in its entirety. I see people say that the novel went downhill after chapter 900, but I didn’t really find that to be the case. Overall good read and the ending was all that bad either as... more>> compared to many others. <<less

Its a very nice novel to read and I highly recommend it.... if you didnt play diablo2, because if you did, you will be enabled to read it without thinking wtf is he doing, now im not talking about the story it self, the story is REALLY GOOD, but to give you an example, in diablo2 their is what is call runwords and they are a core element of the game but in the novel, their are nowere and also in diablo2 their is 3 difficultys, normal, nightmare and hell,... more>> and the max level in diablo2 is 99, in the novel we see the MC hit the 99 level in every difficulty, you will say now whats the problem, the problem is you can NOT reach the lvl 99 like this, in the end of each difficulty you will be like lvl 30 then 70 then 87 (in think?) in average and to reach higher levels you will need to grind hundreds of hours and a lot of veterent player says to pass from the lvl 98 to 99 is the same time you will need to pass from lvl1 to lvl 98 and thats because the max lvl for movmbs in this gane is 87 in think so higher than that you will get penalty over the exp you gain and in lvl 98 you will get no exp from regular mobs and you will get it just from the two last boss, and last and not the least
Spoiler

the gears!! Those gears need thousands of hours of boss grind and you need to hope for a good gear to drop and the same is for runewords

I have finished reading until the very end. The start was kind of interesting since the plot revolves around the diablo world and how he's incorporating the powers into the real world. However, as the story progresses, we are introduced with a bunch more of random real world names/references like saint seiya, football references, apple, celebrity names, and more. Now if you're going to read this without minding that much, you would be good in continuing to read this.

On to MC. He is introduced as a gamer, a diablo game... more>> addict. He transitions quickly, maybe even a bit too fast, especially with killing and mu*dering other people. There's not much depth into the MC aside from the fact that everything was predestined for him and he was able to adjust quickly into what was given to him.

Now the overall plot, is good, not that great, but readable in my opinion. However, if you really think about every detail of it, a lot of glaring plot holes can be observed. Just like:
Spoiler

Why is the 'Mother Empress' a MALE.

Why did the bugs wait 1000 years to invade? Granting that mother empress is recovering, but haven't they planted spies reaching even to the strongest organization of the humanity, why wait 1000 years, they can just send a bunch of supreme level bugs and annihilate humanity before they even know the bugs exists, because throughout the story, they only knew of the bugs quite late.

What's the point of the early powers of the different characters from diablo world when in the end he rarely uses them and even in the final battle he only used the undead power. One combo I can think of is using the paladin buffs on himself and clone himself to battle as well as placing a bunch of traps?

I understand having Elena and Angela as wives as they represent his two worlds, but what purpose is the marriage between him and demonic paris aside from just fulfilling her dreams, she never did anything significant after as his wife.

How did the MC magically obtain the power to gain insights into laws of space when earlier he was barred to progress because he can't understand the laws of azeroth continent.

Cultivation was hard for almost a thousand years, but somehow, after MC reaching a high level, the continent can spit out high level cultivators just in time for the final battle.

and many more

[collapse]

Of course, you can thoroughly enjoy and continue to finish the novel without minding the certain flaws of the plot as it somehow sticks together to a finish. The novel is good, worth the read if you don't have anything to read currently. But in my humble opinion, it's far from perfect and is not meant to be read continuously. <<less

If you planning this novel, little bit of advice for you. If you expecting huge war, try outsmarting enemies through schemes and strategy in this novel, you will not find any of those thing.

Author tries to make as if what MC did is right thing for King should do. But it was nothing but s*upid.

MC is a king, what King responsibility ? Protect his kingdom. Yet for some reason, author ignore development of MC's territory and gave vague hint of it once awhile to remind us MC is a king... more>> not a f*cking random Cultivator. He invested so much on his own strength to defeat his enemies. But he forgot the fact that One day he die, his kingdom will be bound to destruction and cripple.

And yes, this is absolutely identical to any cultivations execpt few mixes of magic.

One last thing that pissed me off, is the timeline. Holy f*ck MC did so many things in one f*cking day? I totally dislike this kind of timeline where MC did so many things but all of those stuff done in few days.

Spoiler

MC rise to power in SUPER SHORT amount of time. Every stories told were happen in few months. How the f*ck it make sense ????????

[collapse]

Yes I gave it 3 stars, because for cultivation novel it is not bad. But I wish MC focus more on territory. <<less

I have already finished reading this and I got to say, its really entertaining to read because it incorporates 2 things that I love: Diablo and a kingdom building kind of story.

The first 100+ chapters are so unbearable and makes you want to drop it (I started with the manga then read the novel) but once you finished those chapters its really entertaining to read. It feels like there is actual movement in the story and the author doesn't add too much filler parts and the amount of romance and... more>> s*x scenes is enough to satisfy the readers. The overall story is pretty complex and I love the ranking system they used from star warrior to a supreme god. Unlike, other chinese novels were its so easy to level up, this feels like it actually takes effort to move up a level (If you take out the Diable aspect) especially after Fei enters Hell mode of Diablo, it starts to actually challenge him and its interesting to see how that he is able to make decisions while looking at the big picture which I rarely see in other stories. And the fact that anything or anyone that was mentioned in the past chapters is still relevant in the new chapters and it doesn't keep on adding stuff which is irrelevant to the story.

Overall, I give it a 5/5 <3 been reading this for the past week and it didn't disappoint.

P.S. Most of the reviews I read here dropped it at like the double digit numbers of the novel which I understand because the first 100+ chapters are so unreadable but once you get past that, its the most entertaining sh*t ever and the title will really make sense after the unreadable 100+ chapters.

Believe me, endure the first few chapters and you wont regret it. <<less
