He, Jin Empire’s imperial highness, was an emotionless overbearing demonic tyrant with unrivaled talent.

Everyone knew that she was idiotic and good-for-nothing and bullied her as they pleased. But only he, the overbearing tyrant with the discerning eye, wouldn’t let go of her even if his life depended on it.

For the time being, let’s just see how the stubborn versus stubborn clash and play out in this good show of the chaser and the chased.

I don't know what to say about this story. First of all, don't read this story if you're looking for a Female Power Fantasy the way I was, because after a hundred chapters, despite discovering the tr*sh Miss to be a super genius, she still hasn't started cultivating. Secondly, this is a 'rule of the jungle' setting, and the ML carelessly drags the MC into the open when she can't use any spiritual power and is therefore a normal person, and therefore someone that his numerous jealous fans can kill... more>> indiscriminately.

Although I say 'carelessly, ' given the kind of man the ML is, this is likely calculated to make her rely on him more. I had to stop reading because the ML is willing to use any means to get his hands on MC and disregards her opinions and wants and needs. The more she rejects his advances, the more unreasonable he gets. It escalates to him threatening his own life to stop her from leaving, earning her the enmity of his servants who blame her for him acting unreasonable. She's constantly harassed, chased, cornered and manipulated, and even when she saves his life in a situation literally no one else could, she's blamed and manipulated into catering to him. She's actually made to feel guilty when this NORMAL PERSON hurts this SUPREMELY POWERFUL man because she fights him off when he forcefully kisses her.

The ML is okay when he's behaving himself and doting on her appropriately, but every time he f*cks up or she isn't completely obedient, he throws a tantrum and the MC is made to feel awful for trying to set boundaries or have a natural human reaction to being abandoned.

The translation is very good, but the chapters are short and filled with redundant descriptions and contain very little actual content. The ML is a scum bag whose only redeeming point is that he hasn't actually r*ped the MC yet, although trampling her dignity and self-respect is arguably just as bad. The MC is supposed to be a super assassin who went through 10 years of hell training, but falls prey to cheap psychological manipulation and doesn't even calculate staying with the ML only due to him protecting her (for settings reasons, MC is in extreme danger due to her abilities if they're discovered and has no way of protecting herself). Overall, if you're sensitive to unequal dynamics, the story is a very tense and unpleasant read. I really wanted to read about gremlin CP who ceaselessly abuse and take advantage of others, but it's all incredibly one-sided and disgusting. <<less

I honestly don't get the one star rating its not bad, I admit it can get a bit wordy and sometimes its over the top with praise for the ML and FL (even though it seems no one notices her beauty it a puzzle us fans she should have more admirers). Though I would put it out there that the ML can be a bit much sometimes but I also think its not entirely his fault the FL has to learn communication throughout the story. There relationship growth throughout... more>> the story is believable though the ML is the one who falls first. I also like that their relationship isnt perfect from the start and ML doesnt trust everything she does from the get go and they have to talk things out. Which to me is more realistic as thats how trust is built. The only thing I would say thats super freaking annoying is there are some characters that just need to die but keep coming back from the brink of death that I feel like they where c*ckroaches in their past life. What I adore most about the FL is that shes not perfect temperament wise like most FLs in wuxia novels as her biggest flaw is she really sucks at communication and you slowly see her get better at it. I would give the translation 4.9 so over all if you want something to keep you going for the long hall this is it. <<less

To be honest, the only reason I kept on reading this repetitive novel was because Nangong Liuyun was my favorite character. And I know that the MC is supposed to be black-bellied and malicious, but I think she's taking things too far most of the times. And I've read many novels like this, but so far, this novel's MC was far most evil. And the plot was interesting, but after a while, it just started getting repetitive. I just don't know how to continue with it anymore. But if it's... more>> for a long-time occasional read, it should be fine. The start is good at least. <<less

The first 100ish chapter was good. MC was able to defend herself with her background as an assassin and face slap her siblings.

After that... How to say.... It became total crap...
Spoiler
  • Every arc consist of 70% describing how MC running away from villains (you can literally skip 10-15 chapters and the author was still not done describing how the villain chased MC), 10% describing how MC's spirit pet 'bullying' the villains, 10% describing how ML came to the rescue and save the day, 5% describing MC sh*t mistakes that cause ML to be injured and 5% describing villains' tr*sh talk.
  • The villains are just crazy people. They're either sluts that was obsessed with ML or crazy people that chased MC because they wanted something from MC (either her spirit pet, her sword, her blood etc)
  • Author didn't kill cannon fodder.. The sl*t that was obsessed with the ML was still alive after 1000 chapters. The whole world already see how sh*t she was but there was always some s*upid male cannon fodder that loved her unconditionally and help her made trouble for MC. Please... Any person with normal functioning brain can see how sh*t she was..
  • MC was an assassin, but she was victimized the whole time. She couldn't even defend herself... She basically became 13 years old after transmigrating. I just can't believe how s*upid she was.

At first, the story and the gifted heroine-protagonist were likable. The male lead was nice and promising. But, at some point mostly after 10 chapters the events gets repetitive.

Like extremely repetitive: "Rival offends protagonis (who act with nochalance) -> ask her to a duel-> rival gets humiliated repeatedly"

THAT'S PRETTY MUCH WHAT HAPPEN AT LEAST 50 TIMES during those 1000 chapters.

The protagonist who was cool and intelligent in the first chap, quickly turned into a giant douche girl that gets way too fortunate. She basically became more irritable both in character... more>> and actions.

The male that seem nice and possessive during the whole "rivals (poor girls) humiliation process" (=last at least 10+ chapters per each girl), he completely enjoyed his time, DOING NOTHING. He pretty much stay with a low profile, continuesly saying he'll help MC but, in the end DOES NOTHING. (except being pampered and letting the MC deal with the rivals who he can't turn down himself). Objectively speaking he's pretty useless and basically its HIS fault that MC has to beat those girls.

The love romance plot was pretty intriguing (overpowered & cruel dude fall for the peasant). BUT, the developments and the narration is WAY TOO SLOW.

Like only at chapter 50-60 something starts. But, you realize that what happened in those 10 chapters, in-book lasted a few minutes. So s*upid. WASTEFUL.

You know what's I hate the most of this serie?

Its me that READ IT UNTIL CH.1024!

Why I continued reading it despite realizing at CH.50 that this is tr*sh? Well, a part of me hoped that something good would happen. Plus, I really liked the protagonist in the first chapters. (I even boosted about her and advice this story to my friend. Which now I regret...)

I hoped something NEW in the plot changes. BUT NOTHING. I WASTED MY TIME. THIS NOVEL IS WASTEFULLY AND AWFULLY WRITTEN.

REPETITIVE. SLOW. TOO DETAILED AND MONOLOGUES FLASHBACK LASTING 1000 WORDS. AND THESE WERE NOT EVEN RELEVANT TO THE PLOT! They could have skipped several parts and those constant reminder of who's who or their over exaggerated impression of the characters... UGHH.

Simply speaking, this book is NOT written well in terms of strutture of the plot, story development, chapters, dialogues and monologues. <<less

  1. Not the best. But not so bad that I dropped it. The first few # are complaints BUT there are good points.
  2. Frustrating that MC and ML dont get together officially till 1000+ chap.
  3. There are a few fluffy scenes that are memorable but ML is more annoying than MC in Tsundere personality (he got really annoying which is why I sorta supported the part where he goes into hiding for a bit)
  4. The way they get together is a result of ML's regret of his bish fit and I feel that his s*upidity is forgiven since he reflected on his actions. He acts VERY sincere afterwards and the lovingness healed my annoyed heart.
  5. Mind you, MC is MC and she gets more screen time than ML therefore ML disappears for almost an entire arc but his comeback IS MESSY VERY MESSY BUT VERY INTERESTING.
  6. The person that MC knows from her old world gets on my nerves but it adds spice to the plot especially since that Green Tea Bish is there for so freaking long!
  7. Anyhow, the translation is still done well, I still have to give credit that they translated this far and I still enjoy it

This story is ok and still readable. The MC is suppose to be a smart assassin (self proclaimed), but in reality, she's just dumb. Like if your an assassin, I'm pretty sure you have some skills right? BUT nope, this MC only has a smart mouth. The romance is pretty good, but I think the ML should trust her a bit more. A major problem that irritates me, is that almost all the antagonist tries to harm the MC for simple/small reasons. Last reason why I don't really like this... more>> novel, is because mostly all the girls in the story think that the ML is the only guy in the world. And of course they blame MC this, and she has to bicker with them =_=". <<less

Mmm this novel is.. Pretty bad. The writing itself, how the story progress, and how biased the author is on the main male character. Basically anything main female does and how "awesome" she does anything, the moment main male char shows up, it makes anything she did looks like crap. Also how it's dragged on and doesn't give the same impact/satisfaction when the main female does something "amazing" since it's nothing once main male shows up. Very simple sentences structure and dragged on plot. This is how the whole novel... more>> is up to date, around 9k chapters. I'm going to be very frank and say that the translation in English is.. Very crude. A lot has lost their original punch or shouldn't be translated and keep as the original chinese. Wwyxhqc Did a fantastic job of keeping those terms with the novels she did but mmm not this translator team so sometimes it feels really off. Compare DKC to Bewitching Prince Spoils His Wife: Genius Doctor Unscrupulous Consort, the later one is so much better in terms of writing, plot, characters and the satisfaction while reading (english translation is good too). I read these mainly in vietnamese since chinese-> vietnamese is not much difference so a lot of things get keep as it is (except the names.. Names get translated.. ;_;) <<less

Starts pretty decent. Maintains bearable till around 600-ish. Becomes increasingly aggravating by 800 or so. I have absolutely no idea by the end judging from how poorly the writing is continuing to get.

This is a typical xianxia novel wearing a rare coat of paint (female protagonist). At least it's written in the same poorly laid out way as most xianxia novels. Don't let the chapter count fool you either, the chapters are very short, expect it to be half or even a quarter the length you'd actually expect.

My major gripe... more>> is ALL of the characters are s*upid, protagonist is supposedly an assassin who's super strong and all that jazz, she fails to kill off people that she can kill early on, fails to stay out of trouble (no seriously, I can accept SOME of the early scenarios, but when you go out of your way to purposely piss off unrelated parties.... Yeah no.) ML is smart, except when he fails to notice the simplest ploys being employed around him, the antagonists are all crazy and have flimsy paper thin reasons to have any enmity with the protagonist. Last I read there's supposedly some justification for what happened all the way in chapter 1, but of course, melodrama happens and we won't understand for I assume another 800 odd chapters. I can't be bothered anymore personally.

Dropped.

Edit: picked it up again on a whim to see if there's been any change. Nope, if anything it's cycle of repetition just got expressed across more chapters, i.e less content per chapter, higher chapter count. Lowered the rating to 1 star because of this. One of the other reviews I saw mentioned flogging a dead horse. They were correct. I didn't even feel the need to reread from the beginning, the characters and what they're doing is pretty easy to pick up regardless of when in the story you start from because they never change (with the exception of Su Luo falling in love with Nanging eventually.) <<less

Honestly I was really enjoying this novel in the beginning. I binge read 300 chapters in 2 days and then took a break. Came back and then binge read up until the 600's and now I've got to say this story is slowly, just very sucking the life out of me, literally killing me. It's been 600 chapters and there has been no character development in the MC. She remains arrogant and yes she has the right to considering how OP she is but no! That don't mean that you... more>> can just not develop at all as a character okay! That's basically all she is- an OP character who knows she's going to succeed no matter what situation she is in because the universe loves her and therefore she has an insane amount of luck to overcome every single freaking obstacle; which, by the way, is very unrealistic and is a bore after reading how the MC utilizes her profound luck every freaking chapter. 600 chapters in and the romance is still not going anywhere. It is very shallow, like why does the male lead like the MC again? Because she's a smart mouth? I don't even know anymore. That's how vague their relationship is. Her relationship with her pet dragon is even better than her relationship with the male lead. Overall this story is going to drag for another couple thousand chapters and maybe by chapter 7, 000 there will be the character development and relationship building I expected but for now I am going to put this one aside. <<less

What is that? Is it a bird? Is it superman? No, it's a plane made of paper. Because seriously, I think I could easily make a complete model of a full-scale airplane, including everything inside, if I printed out this entire novel and used the pages. 8500 chapters, really? A great example of an author shitting out words to meet word counts without actually thinking or driving the plot forward. Around 1k chapters is standard for a Chinese novel, 2k is a really long novel, 3k would be a rarity... more>> and completely stale when finished since the author would've dragged it out too much, but 8.5k just shows that the author didn't even try to complete the novel and just kept repeating her/himself while having a ton of useless descriptions in every chapter and no tangible direction. I don't even need to repeat what everyone else said in their reviews about relationships and the mc's crappy personality and the twisted fake "love", if you absolutely have nothing better to read and is extremely interested in this novel for some weird reason, do yourself a favor and set a limit of a few hundred chapters before dropping it. Just pretend it ends at around chapter 100-200, perhaps you'll at least get a somewhat interesting read to kill some time that way without dying from annoyance. <<less

I liked the hundred or so chapters I read. They were a rather enjoyable read.

That is mostly irrelevant when you take into account how long the damn story is. Its near 9, 000 Chapters long. No story EVER should be that long. While I enjoyed the chapters I did read, as soon as I realized how long it was I dropped the novel. They're is no way the story can keep up the same quality. Thats not taken into account how often the story likely repeats itself. I'd rather waste... more>> my time doing something else. <<less

A seriously fun, ridiculously contrived novel with so many OP tools and deus ex machina moments-- usually in the form of her dragon and all the special tools she 'coincidentally' manages to find. But in the dry barren void that is the pool of light novels with vaguely strong female leads, I'll take what I can get. Even when it still contains (sometimes sometimes not) r*pey perspectives of women.

All in all, it's hard to find something more hilarious, ridiculous or endearing as this.

SERIOUSLY ADDICTED
There are so many negative reviews of this that I was apprehensive at first.
But I gave it a try and all those opinions are dispelled by this wonderfully evocative and thrilling story. The character interactions are so hilarious, so real and so emotional. I can see how the characters change and grow and how they learn more about themselves as they experience new challenges. The story is quite fast paced and super action packed. It's really exciting to the point of thrilling and the author really knows how to create all sorts of plot twists and turns to create suspense. SUSPENSE!! My heart kept threatening to jump out my throat throughout the entire story. It gets more and more suspenseful from chapters 400 onwards. I thought this would be a past-my-time sort of read but now it's on my favourites list. Clarification on the Characters
Spoiler

1. Su Luo is originally a cold blooded assassin and some have been complaining of her change in character. But people CHANGE! She's in a new world, a new body, with new people and new experiences. She's bound to change. But I do have to say sometimes it does get on my nerves that she's consistently a hard core tsundere. But that's because she was harshly betrayed in her past life.
I figured readers should take a more open-minded approach to this story.

2. The male lead Nangong liuyun is NOT A r*peST. Not r*peY at all. Whoever said that is being narrow minded. They live in a world where the strong rule. And on top of that, they seem to have a patriarchal system most likely because men tend to be stronger.
This is one of the reasons why Nangong seems FORCEFUL. At first readers might not like how he's so PUSHY but he becomes much softer as their relationship develops. He knows it's his right to exert his dominance over others. But he has good intentions towards SuLuo.
Time and time again he proves himself to be a DEDICATED and CHASTE man for his sweetheart.
BTW some people say he risked years of cultivation for Su Luo and she is an ingrate but that is also untrue. He loves her that's why he is willing to sacrifice himself to save her. But she is still stuck in the past so she is slowly trying to warm up to him in her own way.

I rate this 5 stars, for what it is and not for what peoples expectations of it are. This is not an action novel. This is not a cultivation novel. This is not a novel about a protagonists increasing strength and the downfall of his/her enemies. Even though this work contains all those elements this work is not entered around those features. This is a comedy (a subtle one) and a romance (admittedly long and painful for readers) with traces of light heartedness, tragedy, s*upidity, and action all thrown into... more>> a cultivation setting. <<less

Love novel + some xianxia background with Mary Sue as MC. Do not take it seriously about plot, character development or else. The translation quality is good. Treat it as light love xianxia novel, chapter-to-chapter, not expect grandiose, and you won't be disappointed.

If the 6000 chapters frighten you, DON'T PANIC. Chapter is very short. What's more, there's *good* spoiler in NUF. Read it, after first 300 chapters, is as good as the whole chapter.

Love the initial plot of the story. I am a sucker for stories with strong/smart female lead after all. Plus, when the character is not just the usual morally good type, it does make things interesting. The male lead is somewhat stereotypical: icy cold, powerful and arrogant, though I do find his devilish, lovesick side somewhat funny. He is borderline the protective type in my opinion, but not too much that probably completely overshadows the female lead and renders her useless. The interaction between our main characters is usually hilarious,... more>> and there are definitely some smart moments from both of our characters. The story telling is good; not too fast or too slow.

Each chapter is quite short, so I would not consider each of them a chapter; then again, that does not really matter much. There is somewhat a repetitive pattern in the story plot, as the protagonist tries to move up the rank and increase her power. Speaking of power, this probably can be considered one of those stories where protagonists have OP cheat powers, or rather, luck, in this case I guess. (The "Lucky Female Lead" tag was not kidding...) I can usually overlook when this only goes to a certain extent, but since when such a genre has a limit?

That said, my rating for this series quickly drops as I was reaching the 300 chapters mark, and eventually I decided to put this on hold - series to be read on a day when I have nothing to do and just want to read something random. The first thing that started to become annoying is the consistencies in the story.

Spoiler

Initially she was claimed to be good-for-nothing as she was unable to control any spirit power. However, after she was able to unlock her lower and went up a few ranks, she still remained miraculously as "good-for-nothing" with no power. This is even in the eyes of a supposedly high ranked enemy that should be able to sense her power. Secondly, she claimed to go up 2 ranks in a month/30 days, but after a few chapters, this time was somehow said to be 20 days. Thirdly, the ranking/title system also changed halfway through the story. Additionally, as someone with no/little spiritual power, she quickly eliminated people 3 ranks above hers, even 2 at the same time. What, then, is so "uncertain" about the outcome of a fight between her, who has leveled up since, and another person on that same rank? Last but not least, as it is probably the last straw that made me put down this story with much potential: she bumped into an enemy dressing as a girl, but after a few days when she crossed path with them again, while dressing as a boy, they somehow were able to recognize her, and thought that she was a boy. Granted, that antagonist does seem to have short-circuited their brain given how annoying their behaviour is, but surely they are not that bird-brained?

[collapse]

The next thing is the female lead's fighting power. Stories where protagonists have cheat-like power/luck, aside from looking like some some self-inserted fantasies to me, undermine the effort/hard work put in by the protagonist.

Spoiler

Good things just seem to happen by "luck", from obtaining rare power/items to getting out of difficult situations unscathed. Granted, plot happens, and all. However, the frequency just seems to increase as the story progresses, and if everything is by "luck", what is there for character development? Furthermore, the female lead quickly rises up in ranking by training and eating special crystals, which are supposed to be rare, expensive and sought after. The former, for the protagonist, can be done in her sleep (how convenient) while the latter happen to be quite easy for her to find as a result of the mythical beast/cave she bumped into. It is hard to agree with her when she sneered at someone for taking a lot more time to reach the same level, even if that was an antagonist/truly an impressive feat from her.

[collapse]

As weird as this may sound, maybe I am just looking forward to seeing the female lead to land in a truly difficult situation or even better, fail, because it is those times that one's strength/character is put into test. Then again, perhaps this is the wrong place, for the characters seem to be designed to be infallible, almost to the point where the story becomes repetitive and predictable. <<less

Spoiler

Male lead = From arrogant Ice cold prince to scheming lovesick idiot
Female lead = From heartbroken assassin with trust issues to honestly-trying-not-to-fall tsundere
other characters = either as followers or offended parties trying to get even from imagined or sometimes not-so imagined slights

[collapse]

Romance? there's no such things. In my opinion its just the Stockholm syndrome talking.
Spoiler

The male lead is those aggressive s*xual offender/mol*ster that uses emotional manipulation and every dirty trick possible to have the MC into his bed. The female lead is supposedly a famous/renown assassin that were betrayed and become unable to trust others easily, but the male lead just have to be there and flash his booty for her to swoon and become unable to fight his advance. And most of the chapter is about the male lead booty in detailed description.

[collapse]

Well, at least the male lead is devoted to make the female lead as his wife and mostly ignore other girls (even the supremely beautiful childhood friend). That faithfulness to one girl is a rare quality compared to other xianxia male character.

But if you want to see the character bumbling in ways that are amusing, this is a nice read to pass time. Will continue reading to see where this story goes... <<less
