“Can’t I properly read stallion novels anymore!”

Shen Yuan transmigrated into someone who’d tormented the young male lead almost to death, the scum villain Shen Qingqiu.

It must be known, the original Shen Qingqiu ended up being carved alive by his disciple, Luo Binghe, into a human stick, a human stick!

Ten thousand “f*ck your moms” rampaged through Shen Qingqiu’s heart:

“It’s not that I don’t want to cling to the male lead’s thighs, but who made him so f*cking black. The type who seeks thousand-fold retribution!”

Why have all the female lead’s scenes been forcibly given to him.

Why, as a scum villain, does he need to constantly sacrifice himself, blocking knife and gun for the protagonist!

Shen Qingqiu: “…I think I can still save him, one more time.”

I wonder if I'm being weird for not liking the novel very much (like 'very much').
Just finished the raw minus the extra and found out that I don't like it that much.
Reason being the climax being brought out too fast and furious, that it became TMI.
Probably because the author mentioned that she will finish it within a certain word count or perhaps she was in the middle of examination period, the climax just rush forward without much warning...

Spoiler

the part where LBH gets crazy all of a sudden, there are more but I couldn't remember much

[collapse]

The author wrote a lot of mysteries and managed to explain them logically in the end but the explanation came too fast.

Spoiler

I'm kinda sad that their 'first time' is not good... and oh, for those who want to read the uncensored part, google this - 求人渣反派自救系统的和谐内容

Was it a "perfect" novel?

Did it have never to be seen before plot points and characterization?

No.

... more>> Was it good despite that?

Yes.

Were some things a bit dragged out?

Was the denial / getting together a bit annoying / iffy?

Some would say so. I can't disagree with it (but, personally, I didn't mind too much).

Did I still like it from beginning to end?

Of course.

I devoured this novel twice, each time I would single-mindedly focus on it, feel the joy & frustration & even light heart break (even on my second read through I experienced this all over again and didn't get bored once reading it) and managed to finish it quickly and then sit with it on my mind for days.

(I still rant about it to my friends sometimes.)

Some pros I can think of right now:

  • Easy read.
  • Great translation.
  • Interesting (to me) plot that takes unexpected turns at times.
  • All important male characters are lovely in their own way (and quite memorable for different reasons).
  • No matter what you like, there is a high possibility of finding it here.
Honestly, there is NOTHING I can complain about that I think would be a HUGE downside for possible readers.

This novel gave me everything I wanted (we needed a bit more of second CP imo, but we still got enough of it surprinsgly; wouldn't have minded more of MC's rival turned friend either, or generally more about other characters that moved along the plot) so I cannot complain too much about it.

I do understand some other readers' annoyance (to a certain degree only) with this piece of work, but it brought me a lot of enjoyment and I want others to give it a fair try before deciding anything.

While the beginning is most enjoyable, I honestly loved the:

Spoiler
    • Angst that comes after ML is back. The misunderstandings between them were delicious.
    • ML's (fall into) insanity was to my liking.
    • All the other characters (that I can remember) introduced in second half were great.
    • The way the plot was progressing didn't feel nonsensical & out of place to me.
    • Didn't feel like the ending was rushed, which is something that happens a lot in BL novels.
    • I also liked quite a lot how MC filled all the plot holes by the end and the way we got to know more about the author and his hard work (poor him) to right the story after he too ended up in the novel.
    • The extra story where the original MC of the harem novel switches with current novel's ML is stuck in my head.
      [collapse]
Simply, I recommend it. I even bought the first volume to support the author. <<less

I love the peaceful time MC had with his white lotus ML Very enjoyable. MC inner thoughts were fun and hilarious. He's someone that I want to be friend with. His character is so realistic to me; just some lazy bookworm who try to survive another day, a nice guy but not a saint. Upon realization that he had transmigrated into "Proud Immortal Demon Way" novel, MC made up his mind to cling tightly on ML thigh.

ML was a young student of MC. His life was so hard before MC... more>> came along. He's very adorable and a crybaby (so cute!). I can see how ML keep falling for MC. Yet, love development from MC side was kind of fall short for me.

The misunderstanding took too long to resolve make it so boring. I don't feel the need to bring new characters in just to extend the story at all. Overall, good story.

It was so good at the beginning like the MC trying to fix plotholes and cute master disciple relationship. The system suddenly made to change by the author. It's of no use basically and MC to be bl'ed by the ml. The misunderstandings are soo bad and full of loopholes. I tried reading further to give it a chance as I really liked the start. Sadly it's not for me. I don't want the MC to sacrifice too much for him (ml). ... more>>

I also think that the heavenly demons are too powerful. Like they have strong cultivated rivaling human peak cultivators even when they're children, their world also has more resources than the cultivation world, they can literally control any human using their blood. Why wouldn't they simply invade the human realm instead of doing this. Also there are immortal binding chains which can literally make any cultivators into ordinary humans, but there isn't anything similar for demons... even if there is it's not like the chains which are literally everyone has

Wtf! I can't believe I didn't review this masterpiece!! π_π

Read this a long time ago. Ok maybe not very very long time but maybe it's been 2 years or more or something. But yeah at that time I didn't make a NU account yet so I didn't review.

This novel is a MASTERPIECE! The popularity and the number of 5 stars given by everyone are all well-earned. This novel deserves all the recognition and love it gets cause it's just that AMAZING! Don't waste time contemplating or hesitating and just read... more>> it cause it's WORTH IT!

This one was my first shizun - disciple novel and it totally has made me a sucker for shizun - disciple novels. I just can't get enough of this trope. I have read many other novels from this trope but this one still holds a very special place in my heart and no novel can top it. It's so so sooooooooo good and special. The comedy, relationship everything is top notch. I definitely recommend reading this! (♥ω♥) <<less

Okay.

What can I say about this baby?

I am simply OBSESSED and FOURTEEN for Luo Binghe. He is without a doubt my protégé, my precious, my everything! I would give my soul, my ass, my dog... EVERYTHING FOR HIM AND NEVER SORRY!

... more>> You may think I'm exaggerating, but I'm not. He's just a baby who needs a lot of love and a few therapy sessions. And, okay, maybe a few Love Yourself lessons with Kim Namjoon...

I'm getting off track, but AGAIN...!

Obviously, he's not my only favorite thing about this story. I love Shen Qingqiu. Like, SO MUCH! He has an extremely fun, attractive and captivating personality. Even if that personality is represented more internally, and externally, he's just trying to keep a poker face. Yet he's still that protagonist who will make you laugh at REALLY dubious moments - Mountain Maigu, I'm looking at you! - and make you question your own sanity because of it. But that's precisely why you simply can't help wanting to continue.

Nor can you forget the fact that SV is very gripping when you realize how deep it goes into the characters' emotions. Especially, for me, when we see one in particular.

Luo Binghe has a psychological journey that is the equivalent of a rollercoaster ride. He's broken, he's breaking and then getting back on his feet, only to fall a little further. It was really painful to get to the final chapters and see how clearly destroyed he was. How hurt, lonely and desperate he was. There were moments when I really just wanted to pick him up and smack that dear author. But, well... there wasn't much I could do. At least she didn't trick me and it was a happy ending.

Well, I've already talked about the main couple - more about Binghe, but what can I do if I just love him so much? -Now I'm going to bring up another topic that I loved.

The fact that SV is a great satire on novels with studly protagonists with a harem, where everything can be summed up and solved with s*x.

Mo Xiang Tong Xiu hit all the right notes here, bringing situations where it was possible to feel the criticism with an almost cruel veracity. The Maigu Mountain scene was undoubtedly the highlight of this satire. Because in it we have a Binghe completely f*cked up emotionally and psychologically, without any conscience, with a f*cked-up sword controlling him and a Shen Qingqiu who thinks that the whole situation can be solved with s*x. Just because that's "common sense" in this kind of novel. And what really resolved everything in the end was the dialog. Something very simple, right? Simple, but difficult to execute. Even more so when you've had an eternity of misunderstandings between you and the other person. And that's precisely the situation BingQiu finds himself in almost from the start of the novel. And, of course, with a little extra help from the system that seemed obsessed with making everything worse. Honestly? I'm shocked at how smoothly and well things turned out. It could have been worse, believe me.

Well, apart from that, another thing that stuck with me was the writing. God, I could drown in this sh*t and I'd still be begging for more!

MXTX has a writing style that is really extremely captivating and that doesn't let you go once it's got you! Even more so thanks to the fact that you can REALLY feel the development and growth of the relationships between the characters. Both with the main characters and the secondary ones. Some may not get much attention, but you'll definitely still feel captivated by them at some point.

The comedy here is also pure gold! I remember losing my breath and choking up several times while reading...

So, to sum up...

Read it.

Loved it! It was funny and kept me interested throughout. I had to binge-read it, it finally broke my reader's block. I thought the MC behaved more or less like a real person would in the same situation. But the ML was (more than) a bit on the creepy side. Overall I found it very addictive and I enjoyed reading it.

ran to read this after MDZS because I loved it so much, but maybe my expectations were too high? (Still binged it though) I liked the MC and the other characters, as well as the plot foundation, but somehow felt that the delivery was lacking. It’s not that I didn’t like Shen Qingqiu and Luo Binghe together, I just didn’t feel much for them and my affection for the characters plays heavily into the scope of my enjoyment.

I found myself anticipating Shang Qinghua and Mobei-jun’s interactions instead—I really liked their... more>> parts. <<less

The original Shen Qingqiu deserves justice because all together this novel isn't it. All stars to the translation though. This was my gateway into Danmei fics (at least MXTX's works) but having explored it more, this leaves a lot to be desired. Shen Jiu is baby girl and that's all there is to it!

Maybe it's just me, but this novel makes me feel like the auther is laughing at the readers. A hard slap to the face.

Everything that unfolds is just so.. Ironic?

I hate the ML in this a lot in this one though. Like It can be explained since it's a world of fiction. But in the real world he would just be some poor kid who couldn't take it anymore and committed genocide.

... more>> But at the same time, many people would be insulting him on the internet.

But Anything works in the world of fiction. Specially since this one is a world of fiction, within fiction.

It kind of feels like auther was too lazy to fill in the plot holes so they blamed most of everything into Shang Qing hua's head.

But it's a good read. It's fame indeed feels a little over the top, but at the same time Well deserved.

Everything that conspired could have been avoided if just someone were to communicate nicely though. Not just one person of course.

Everything is just, a play of circumstances.

I specially like the part where ML turns into a little kid in MC's dream. Saying 'My shizun left me' something something.

This novel just made me grint some teeth though. It's hard to not want to beat these characters up on the spot. <<less

I just finished reading this novel for the third time so I think it goes without saying that I like it quite a lot. My most recent read-through was done after the official English release of the extra chapters and I obtained so much more enjoyment out of the story after having read these extra chapters, which do a great deal to give select characters more depth and also answer a number of unanswered questions.

That being said, upon my first read of the novel I thought it was fantastic and... more>> gave it 5 stars. Having read the novel again, I'm dropping my rating down to 4 stars. I do really like this novel, but there are a couple things that leave me somewhat unsatisfied.

As some other reviewers have said, I'm not a huge fan of Luo Binghe (the ML). I did see that some reviewers called him manipulative, but I disagree with this assessment. On your first read of this novel, you are absolutely led to believe that he's manipulating the MC, Shen Qingqiu, throughout the story. However, once you've finished the story (and read the extra chapters), it becomes pretty apparent that he's not actually manipulating him. There's only one situation where LBH manipulates SQQ. That being said, LBH does act very childish around SQQ, crying/"acting sweet"/coaxing etc. However, the story makes it very clear that this is actually LBH's true personality, not him deliberately manipulating SQQ. His badass persona is the real act that he puts on for people other than SQQ. Unfortunately, this is actually what I dislike about LBH. I'm not a fan of the whiny/"cute"/crybaby type. I would have actually preferred if his badass act was his real personality because then he and SQQ could have met more as equals instead of with the staggering power dynamic that remains even after the story concludes.

My other issue with the MC/ML's relationship is that SQQ is never honest with LBH about who he is. Now, I completely understand why SQQ wouldn't reveal that he's a transmigrator. First of all, that's a pretty hard sell. Who would believe him? Second of all, Yue Qingyuan, the sect leader, would almost certainly try to get the original SQQ back so the MC would end up in pretty dire straights on that front. Who wants to risk an entire sect coming for you because you essentially killed one of their own and highjacked their body? However, he still could have told LBH. I find it extremely hard to believe that LBH wouldn't have accepted his explanation (whether he left out some key details or not). Although SQQ's feelings are genuine, he's still lying about who he is. That's a pretty big issue in any relationship.

On the topic of Yue Qingyuan, I really wish he had gotten a better ending. Although SQQ's actions at the end of the book actually do align with the original SQQ's actions (we see this especially clearly in the extra chapters), my heart hurts for Yue Qingyuan. I can't help but wonder how things would have played out if SQQ had just said to him, "Look, I lost my memories. I asked Meng Mo to recover them for me, but he was only able to recover a few fragments. I genuinely don't remember you so please let the past go." Sure, that would have hurt, but it also probably would have given Yue Qingyuan more closure than what he got. Of the side characters, Yue Qingyuan was the one I probably ended up liking most. I really feel like he was treated unjustly throughout the entire book.

Other than those points, I did felt like the ending could have used a little more development. Even having read the book multiple times, I still felt like there were some issues with the development of the "big reveal" during the final boss fight. Specifically, it was hard to tell when the secret alliance began. There were hints that it started during the time skip, but then strong suggestions that it actually didn't begin until later, which even now leaves me with quite a few questions. (My apologies for being so vague, I'm trying to avoid using spoiler tags.) Unfortunately, even the extra chapters didn't help clear this up.

As for the extra chapters, I enjoyed them quite a lot. Particularly the Yue Qingyuan/Shen Qingqiu chapter and the Airplane chapter, both of which allowed us to actually meet the original SQQ and learn more about who he was as a character. I found this especially interesting since he's this mysterious scum villain in the novel proper who only gets just enough backstory to fill in the obvious plot holes. Meeting him and learning more about him was very cool. I also enjoyed the sections where Airplane was watching the MC as SQQ without knowing the MC had transmigrated into SQQ's body. That really provided some perspective on the similarities between the original SQQ and the MC. Turns out, the System didn't just "randomly" assign the transmigrators to characters, but rather chose the character who best fit the transmigrator's own personality. Airplane, as a character, was also developed significantly during the extra chapters. In my first read-through, I struggled to understand his motives throughout the book. His extra chapter really let me see and understand his motivations and character better. Meeting Bing-ge in one of the characters was also very cool and I re-read that chapter to fully appreciate the details and subtext.

In summary, I enjoyed this novel a lot. The official English release does have what I consider to be a higher-than-average frequency of editorial errors (missing punctuation marks, incorrect spacing, calling Airplane Shooting Toward the Sky "Airplane Flying Toward the Sky" multiple times, etc) but other than that it was easy to read. There was one instance of an offensive word being used in one of the extra chapters, which bothered me tremendously, but without being able to read Chinese it's difficult to tell if this was a shortcoming on the author's part or the translator's. The humor in this book is one of its best features. If the MC's constant roasting and griping wasn't part of the narration, this story would fall far shorter than it does. I really do like most of the characters and I was genuinely saddened by some of the deaths. Even on second and third read-throughs, I still cried at the heartfelt moments. That being said, there were a couple of things I would have liked to see done differently. Overall, though, it was a very enjoyable read. You will never convince me that Liu Qingge doesn't have a crush on the MC. <<less

I don't usually write reviews but I decided to leave one here.

This is the first ever novel of Mo Xiang Tong Xiu that I’ve read and finished reading, though not the first story of her that I know of.

I might get cancelled for this opinion lol but among the gongs of MXTX’s story, Luo Binghe is the one I did not like. I don't simp for him, stan him, or kin him. If I were to say, though, I’m actually quite fond of Bing-ge (the original).

There are a lot of... more>> points in this story that constantly challenged my bottom line as a reader. Especially that extra smut.

Spoiler

I think it was a wine gourd or bottle that Luo Binghe chose to shove down his shizun’s ass, and it makes me feel so uncomfortable reading it. For the sake of finishing the entire book without leaving anything unread, I managed to hold on till the end.

[collapse]

I can say that one of the traits I don't like about the shous, and Shen Yuan, is that they are completely in the gong’s mercy when it comes to bed matters. I don’t deny that I also read smut, and enjoy reading smut, but it makes me feel stifled when the shou resigned to their fate because they “love” the gong.

My favorite scene in the novel will be a bit spoiler so...

Spoiler

So, my favorite scene is when Shen Qingqiu chose to self-destruct to stabilize Luo Binghe when Xin Mo gets out of control. I loved reading Binghe’s reaction when he realized what his shizun had done for him.

I especially loved it when the martial sister, sorry I’m not good with names, told Luo Binghe: “Don’t call him Shizun anymore.”

Kinda weird of me, but I was smiling and laughing at that time. In my opinion, that’s just a little payback for all of what Shen Qingqiu suffered, though I think it’s a little (?) unfair for Binghe if I thought like that.

[collapse]

Anyways, the person I’m most sorry for is the original Shen Qingqiu and original Luo Binghe.

As they said, hateful people must have also had a pitiful past, or something along those lines, sorry.

Moving on!

Spoiler

I really felt like the two shouldn’t have to suffer like that and they deserved their own redemption. I don't consider Shen Yuan Shen Jiu’s redemption (as Shen Qingqiu) because it wasn’t Shen Yuan who suffered like that.

Likewise, I also don’t consider Bing-mei Bing-ge’s redemption. For me, these two are completely different individuals who had their own past, who also deserve their own good future (Bing-mei already has him but Bing-ge did not exactly get his own redemption).

[collapse]

Despite everything that I have said above, I still gave this novel 4 stars because of the other characters. I won’t go into details about who they are and why are they able to change my supposedly rating for this novel.

All in all, what I want to say is that, the reason this is the first of MXTX’s book that I’ve finished reading, is because the other two are more impactful and have more depth in plot than this. I’m struggling on reading them because I can’t take angst well. <<less

I read this after I read tgcf and mdzs. It’s good from what I remember although I don’t remember a lot. I really need to reread it because from what I’ve seen in the fandom, there is a lot of details that I missed (although there is textual evidence to back up their claims, I want to make sure for myself). But I since I read like three books one after the other, I can barely remember any of them but I have good impressions of it all.

I am 100% in love with Scum Villain!! I love the chemistry between all the characters so much! My literal only complaint is that Shen Yuan boasts being an avid reader of transmigration novels in the beginning, then seems unable to comprehend that his actions have in fact changed the plot. Other than that, it is an absolute blast and a must read for any BL fans!! (Plus its now out officially with so much art!!)

I really loved this novel. The ML is so cute and devoted (i.e. Obsessed). I especially love how the MC crumples to his crocodile tears and lets him have his way, all the while knowing he's faking it. The MC is also very upright in his beliefs and didn't give in until the end when he was sure of himself and his feelings.

That said, I have many criticisms. One, I felt that the novel could have been cut down. Adding the entire ML's crazy father plot line seemed unnecessary — he sort of just popped into the story without any warning midway through. I did like how the ML was the master orchestrator because that relates to the OG protagonist, but it would have been better to show the manipulation in a different way than that confusing plot line.

Also, what made the novel longer was the amount of chapters there were of the MC denying his feelings and then realizing them all at once. It was obvious to readers, I feel, that when he "lost his soul" that he had feelings for him — and even if he didn't realize how he truly felt right away after meeting the ML, that would have been okay. There was no need to add like 40 chapters of a new, contrived plot line to add more tension into the relationship where at the end, he dies realizing he loved the ML. It would have been better for him to realize it after meeting the ML again or that the ML went back to him and made him realize his feelings.

Regardless, I loved the novel! I think that type of ML is pretty cool (in fiction). Definitely would recommend! Though, it does lull eventually because of how long it is, I would recommend this.

I read this a year ago or something? But I forgot to make a quick review so here I am. I do not really remember much, but what I do remember is that I really really liked it at the time. I was also pretty sad and depressed when I finished it all in just a couple of days lol

It's only 99ch a pretty fast read but I completely got lost in the story when I first read it. I think this one is one of the very first BL's... more>> I started reading. I think this ones pretty fitting for people who want to get into danmei's/BL haha. Right now though I probably wouldn't rate it this high, it's mid at best, but I'll let the rating stay. If you are new to this genre definietly read it since now your standards are probably pretty low. <<less
