I like the fact that the powering up of the MC in this story is very subtly done (none of those "mightiest in world 1 and weakling in world 2 crap". I initially didnt think much of this story (slow start) but after a bored afternoon binge, was totally hooked on the story.

I think it stands out among the rest of the stories I was reading at WW, and thus would recommend this to anyone who is wary of the standard xianxia fare where authors seemed to be paid by... more>> chapter length (they are). <<less

I love the overall theme of the novel, it being dark and suspenseful at times. The start of the novel already sets up the the feeling of desperation and the survival aspect of a darkworld.

This novel doesn't cut corners in terms or gruesomeness, it is very action packed and has so many mysteries revolving around the MC and those around him, but what I like most about him is the fact that he is practical and focuses on survival and makes rational decisions (at times).

The only downside for me was... more>> that the story has so many clans and families that I sometimes get lost and have to read back or check the comments to remember who that person was. Other than that I love the story, characters, and theme of the novel. <<less

Damn, this story is dark but gripping, you may feel like the MC is full on ret*rded in the first few chaps, but eh he's still a kid with some hope/decency. Like in what one of the other reviewers mentioned, at least try to complete the 1st 20 chaps before writing this novel off as tr*sh.

WARNING: this novel is DARK AF. Kids get executed for talking, they get beaten, whipped and r*ped as well sooo if you can't handle it, pls find a nicer novel.

Monarch of Evernight is a sometimes slow-paced Steampunk cultivation gun-fu fantasy fiction.

It's setting is probably it's strongest point. The world is well thought-out and gives off a feeling of being viable in it's own universe. It does tend to go a little far in describing the world (whcih is the origin of the slow pacing at times), this could be done better but it is by no means bad.

The chapters itself sometimes suffer from standard tropes such as voluptuous vixens and awkward cuties. I suppose that is partially a matter... more>> of preference as well.

Some people will tell you about a recurring character that is needlessly annoying and not a good addition, but I predict that this character will have a key role eventually. I might be wrong, but this novel has it's strokes of brilliance, and so I dream.

If you were to ask me what makes this novel good instead of okay, I would say it is the fact that around the protagonist, several other storylines about more or less equally powerful people play out. The world forms a whole and is not just a stage for the protagonist to shine on his own. <<less

I like it very much. Maybe in early part it is not so fast and didnt give you much adrenaline. But after that you can gain very cool and clever MC, nice system of cultivation and fighting. Very good story and professional translate. If you want to lose the sense of time? You should start reading this novel.

in fact this novel I like since it goes a little out of what we are used to read, there are certain chapters that can be counted as stuffing but it is later compensated with a battle or a comical situation, this as every novel has pros and cons but if we do not put them out we do not enjoy the novel.
You always have to see the positive side of things.
talking about the translation that I can say is excellent because it is well revised and corrected

This novel is for those steampunk, vampire/werewolf, cultivation novel fans out there. Yes, the MC is a little OP, but not so much that the story is boring - there are others at his level and far beyond that can actually squish him like a bug. Yes, he will get lucky encounters. Yes, there is a crazy, vampire-involved relational development. Is any of this going to lower your appreciation while reading each chapter? Heck no! Each chapter is a wonderful culmination of the author's hard work, and I look forward... more>> to how the story develops. I've read since chapter 1 of the translations on WW, and I plan to read till the final chapter. Try it out! It's amazing! <<less

Honestly one of my favorite novels currently being translated. A story about an orphan who catches a lucky break and the attention of one of his nation's nobles, it features martial cultivation and many battles, both small and large, as the MC seeks to learn more about his own personal history whilst also growing to become an overlord of his world. It does contain some of the typical Eastern webnovel cliches (arrogant young masters, weak-to-strong cultivation, conspiracies against the MC) but it does so in a manner that makes sense... more>> in regards to the story being told and in a logical and consistent manner. It's a satisfying read, that manages to hook its claws and fangs in you and doesn't let go. Oh, and that particular analogy was intentional; there are demons and vampires and werewolves in this story. <<less

This is one of my new favorites, the story does a great job at bringing the ideas of loyalty to the forefront while still keeping the gripping dog eat dog world that wuxi is known for.

Monarch of the evernight is a good novel. In the beginning the mc's personality is annoying, but he gets better as the story progresses. I like vampires. MC does have a tragic backstory, so if that's not your thing... too bad. Check it out, and try to get through the beginning.

This is my favourite novel. I have been introduced to webnovels with TDG and completed a few and am reading some other novels, but this is the most original one I have seen so far. I really enjoy the western supernaturals mixed with eastern cultivation. I also enjoy seeing how the MC is changing slowly and isn't too OP. The story is has a good pace and the translation is excellent. I recommend it to everyone.

This is my first review ever so bare with me. Ive read/am readiny CD, ISSTH, DE, ST, KOG, etc and The only other novel ive ever read that hasnt contained the classical wuxia feeling was swallowed star. I wasn't sure how I'd feel about this novel but im so glad I started reading it. I love the main character, hes true to himself and intelligent in ways I find other MCs lacking. He has personality that makes me want to keep reading. It was so good I had to sponsor... more>> it to read even more. To be honest, this novel may not be my #1 but it is tied with it. Quite hard to get into at the beginning, but the story picks up quite fast.

The characters feel a bit dull at first, but develop quite a lot of depth over time, especially the MC's two "best friends".

The world itself is a refreshing mix between western fantasy (vampires, werewolves, etc) and eastern fantasy (cultivation, chinese mythology) while also having a lot of steampunk elements that fit in really well.

One of my favourite novels atm.

This story is one of my favorites Chinese novels I’ve read it has a slow build up into a wonderful story involving love, mystery, rivalry, camaraderie, and awesome supernatural monsters. One of the few novels in this genre I’ve read where firearms play an important role which I find is really awesome. Definitely worth a read

Quite an interesting novel in which the characters are not heavily dependent on in their characters and actions. But after reading 5 volumes, you realize that the story, the protagonist, and the world of the character is not logical. And indeed a lot of minuses in the product.

- The story is dark, but the character of the hero is soft character and does not fit into the dark world. - Too long, the main character ignores enemies and their machinations, allowing enemies to increase the ranks and do whatever they... more>> want. - A lot of interesting female characters, but the feeling that the protagonist is not capable of love and other feelings. - Could would make a good harem, and here, saved the girl, and once one of the characters escapes into the fog of history and more we almost do not see it. - The character will eventually become a vampire, but he foolishly claims to everyone that I'm human! My heart is human! - Even more foolish, the fact that the human world, in the end, accepts him as one of its defenders. - So it is not logical, that killing all the strong vampires, he himself must kill as a potential threat. (The dark side in this issue disappears). - If someone is waiting for sharp turns in the story, then there are no special, very smooth history. - Construction and development, of the clan of vampires etc not seen here. Hence, the 3.5 rating is disappointed, expected more. <<less

I actually don't' get why so many people is droping this novel, right that there are many unnecessary descriptions at the beggining but later on you will realize that it was important for the world building.

Other thing is that the MC is being called of "wussy" "coward" etc etc, but man he had EIGHT YEARS OLD. In this novel you can really see the MC growth, mentally and physically, so is important to see how he was and how he will be from here on, even now I still... more>> think that the MC is a little naive, but the encounters and experiences he pass through clearly leave a mark on him and thats what makes more interesting.

However, 5/5 rate because the actual 3.9/5 is too low. <<less

His cultivation is the most interesting part of this entire thing. To an extent idk how much he really diverges from the norm, we are given general examples from time to time like "no one has done this like he did in such a long time etc" or "it has never been done before."

You never really see anyone else cultivate really, not like Hunter X Hunter which now that I'm drawing this comparison does seem a bit unfair but in that story everyone has Nen and you get to see... more>> how diversified abilities are, and get a real grasp over how they are cultivated. This for a lot just really relies on the cultivation troupe for an explanation. Your left with a sort of "The MC is exceptional deal with it" by the author. That is my greatest gripe, I suppose other than I thought time would move much faster in the series than it did. Usually with cultivation time is a bit irrelevant, all that said the story is interesting. And engaging enough, personally I think it would have been a much more interesting story if the MC shared the spotlight. Characters that really draw your interest, tend to fade in and out, and in and out, leaving you with the MC. Sometimes you want to know what they are like when they are not around the MC. When you do you end up seeing, at least I did and ended up thinking "I would really like to see more of that" It's a good story all in all but in the end besides the guns and tech it is a bit generic from the title I envisioned a much more ambitious MC if he were one this story would be much more differently. The story flows in a way to take him along really, swept up in the current when I really would have liked to have seen him as the tide itself with a Luffy/naruto lvl ambition. <<less

I read this to chapter 4 to realize it's not for me.

My two main problems that were bad enough to drop it so early:

1st problem is the Author takes half a chapter just describing things. I like details and they are important to a story but this author takes it to a whole new level and it's usually about things or people that are not even important. It's like filler in a way.

The MC is a starving youth that hides to eat some bread he found. A girl around his age finds him and he gives her half even though he doesn't know her and he's been starving for a long long time. Basically it's assumed he gives it to her because she is a pretty girl. After giving half his bread to her she leaves to get some older kids to come get the rest of the bread for her by force. Apparently half wasn't enough for her and his kindness meant shit. The boys she brought over beat him senseless after eating the half bread he had. Eventually they started asking where the other half had gone. The white knight in shining armor MC knew that if he told these boys the girl ate it they would get angry at her so he didn't reply to them and kept getting beat while they asked where the other half was. The girl watched him being beaten and was worried he would tell them so she grabbed a rock and started bashing his head in with it to kill him. She would have killed him but some adults came by to grab the boy. The adults gave him a gun and said that he should kill the girl because if they hadn't arrived she would have killed him. The MC couldn't understand these evil men that wanted him to kill this pretty girl and so he chose to not shoot her.... YEAH THE MC IS REALLY BAD ASS GUYS. The moment he gave out the pu*sy pass I lost a lot of interest in this story.

The beginning was slow, and it had it's quirks. I enjoy reading this so far. My favorite character is Wei Potian. Personally, I don't really like the MC. He has no specific character (Not arrogant, and he is no angel). He feels like a computer that just wants to power-up efficiently.

I enjoy the side character and I am wondering how his power will develop. Well, This is a different flavor from the normal formula (like Coiling Dragon, Martial World, Against the God, Desolate Era).
