When he regained consciousness he was already in another world. There was no meeting with a God, no cheat skills, just a sudden reincarnation. There was no time to find his bearings either, he was in a life-or-death trouble from the start that would somehow result in being employed as a valet to a vain youngster from an aristocratic family.

He would, in time, discover an astonishing truth about this new world and vow to fight it with all his might to protect the people important to him. No matter how reckless that would be.

This is one of the first light novels I read. I honestly liked it a lot, but it just gets worse as it goes on. Like other people stated the first arc was preety good and at that point I was ready to give it a 5/5. In the second arc the cracks started to show and honestly it ruined a lot of good things about the novel. The conclusion to the second arc was one of the s*upidest things I have ever read. All buildup and logic is thrown... more>> out the window and we get a complete mess. The seceond arc sapped any desire I had to continue reading so I haven't read the third arc yet. But I have skimmed through it and it seems to be on an even lower level than the second one to the level I might give it a 1/5 after reading it. Novel updates doesn't show all the chapters. Chapter 100 has already been released. My advice is to just read arc 1, take that as the ending and be content with that. It will save you a lot of frustration. <<less

First arc: Amazing

Second arc: Pretty decent

Third Arc: What the actual f*ck. It was so good and from here on out the author just sh*t the bed

The only reason this review is 2 stars is because of the strong start, but even that cant redeem the steaming pile of sh*t it became

I've read some pretty outlandish deus ex machina moves but this takes the f*cking cake.
Spoiler

I can't beat the BBEG so I sold my sold to the World, who's conveniently a pretty girl clone of my loved one, so now I'm gonna live off in this corner with her and fall in love with her, while abandoning everything else. I tried reading further past this point, but it's just more of the same drivel

I really liked the story through the initial set of arcs, but the author (so far) has tried to keep the 'high tension' going more or less indefinitely. This makes it somewhat frustrating to read and you feel worn out after a while, with the MC chasing something (someone) for an extremely long time only to finally achieve his goal... or not. The story going on in the background behind his relationship with a certain person is pretty good, but the way the story-line gets twisted around just to c*ck-block... more>> is sigh-inducing. <<less

This is a gem :
- The developed world may be simple game like, but only in surface, as it has a well developed culture.
- The main character is really interesting, strong and always scheming. In fact, all of the characters are interesting, and none of them really that stereotypical.
- The bittersweet unconfessed romance is really touching and cute. I rooted for them when reading the story!
- The chapters are long and satisfying.
- The translation is good.

Read it if you like any of the above, you... more>> won't be disappointed. <<less

My reviews aren't explicitly spoiler-y, but it's best recommended is you skim through my review if you aren't caught up with the translations. Will be updated if needed.

This is yet another reincarnation-themed novel, which I personally have a love-hate relationship with. This is actually one of the better ones that I've come across especially when starring a male protagonist. The beginning immerses the reader through the story through a fast-paced action scene that's actually decently well-written, and the dark tones gradually shifts and moves to soft/calm ones before going back... more>> to its roots.

The characters are another plus, though barely so for the MC. While I like self-sufficient characters with their motivations and surroundings having an influence, I can't quite grasp exactly why things were so... smooth, for a lack of a better word, in the first few chapters. Perhaps there'll be an explanation later. I do love politics and clashing ambitions though, so this is in my good books.

Unfortunately, as Qianweijia has stated in their review, the translation is a bit awkward though I don't mind its quality. While I like Rion as a character, I sense that there may be some needless drama that will soon come (not exactly because of the characters, but because of the writing which will influence the characters; it'll make sense if you read it) I have high hopes for its plot, am neutral to the characters, and hope it won't turn out to be another story victim to needless drama. <<less

Honestly when I first read this it was a new experience for me in the midst of all the same cookie cutter villainous novels.

But I soon realized how many glaring plotholes are present. I wont spoil anything but honestly near the second half it starts being bland. Also I lost the fun I had.

Personally I'd give it a 3.5. Round off to 4 cause of the translation. A good time pass for bored readers

First review, so bare with me for any mistakes. This review only covers the first two arcs of the story since I didn't read the third arc. FILWTV suffers from what I personally call "First Arc Syndrome" where it starts off really strong but the story gets pretty weak later on. Like how every other reviewer is saying here, I recommend reading the first arc at the very least.

Arc 1 (Academy part) : 4/5, Reading Rion interact with Vincent and Ariel through this arc is pretty great, and having an... more>> academy setting is still good despite this being a common setting that most novels make theirs on. -1 star here since I personally didn't like how Rion manages to take over his original residence and transforms it into something different that easily, but this might be more of a personal problem instead.

Arc 2 (Strategy part) : 2/5, Unfortunately, the story at this point turns more into a generic isekai story which is super disappointing since it comes directly after the heels of Arc 1 with its strong conclusion and at this point you've probably read this exact situation you see here with numerous other isekai stories. -3 stars here since it really felt like a slog to read through and the ending of this arc is pretty much an asspull in my eyes. Honestly Ariel is what keeps this arc rating from going even lower. I would only read this if you were really curious to see what happened to everyone after Arc 1 events, but take my word for it and just leave their fates ambiguous. <<less

I finished reading the series after the previous team dropped it. It's a great series, and I loved it. It did fall off in the end though. You can essentially divide this story into three parts. The first part is the prologue and school days. This first part gets an immediate 5/5. It is a fantastic love story with just the right amount of drama and twists and turns. At the very least, I would recommend that everyone reads the first part of the story.

The second part is still good,... more>> but a little lacking. This is the part where they fight the demons, and don't worry, that's not a spoiler. This part is more of a general isekai story where the protagonist is overpowered and everyone else is just too s*upid to solve their own problems. It's still good, and I love the main character, but the story does fall off. Also, a lot of characterization for a bunch of different characters skews in a weird way. One of the main antagonists in the first part does almost a complete 180 and suddenly decides he wants to be friends with MC for no real reason. The translation stops right before the second part ends.

The third part is after the war with the demons is over. It really falls off at this point. The main character doesn't show up nearly as much in this part, and it mostly just focuses on all the side characters who you mostly won't care about at this point. When MC does do things, he is officially overpowered to the point that nobody can do anything against him, and I do usually enjoy overpowered MC's who can just bowl over the opposition. This feels a little more flat though. Battles are usually just the enemy's carefully laid out positions and then the MC charging and everything is over. The third part still has its merits, and I would still like to see it translated, but it's not something I'd want to read over and over again like the first part. That's why in whole, this story gets a 4/5. <<less

Mixed bag from me. Especially the tragedy part.

Spoiler

MC tries to save his best friend from being executed, and he actually succeeds, but then best friend KILLS HIMSELF in order to make MC forget about him and live freely...? Only to have MC breakdown and get captured at his death. And then the king and queen have him live freely because he's their long lost son. What was the point of this? How he dies was so pointless and s*upid it immediately drew me out of the immersion of the story.

Also, MC's love interest surrenders herself immediately because he left his job as a butler. And the reasoning for that is it's fate for her to do it, and the only reason why she hadn't done it before was because the MC was at her side. Okay, I get it's her fate to fall from nobility, but does she have to break down immediately and suddenly not care about anything else? I feel like her downfall should have more natural progression of her deterioration, but nope, after he leaves she immediately self-destructs.

[collapse]

How it handles the tragedy is unbelievably moronic imo, and I feel like the novel makes it way too dramatic for me to enjoy. Especially since the MC is playing the "misunderstanding" card to create this god damn awful drama. <<less

Gave me decent amount of expectation only to plummet it with dissapointment. The MC is some kind of perfect robot with an eloquent tongue and yes man attitude. ... more>>

Painted so perfect he is the saint that so selfless he become underworld kingpin for his employer.... I mean he refuse to take a rest despite being drowsy? there is a limit to being a saint and being a robot.

[collapse]
Yeah... so his employer was executed.... after the event the king himself found out that all the charade was but a false charge. What did he do? Instead of investigating the truth and publicly cleansing the victim's name he did nothing. Instead he gave a chunk of forsaken land in faraway border to MC under no political pretense at all... he suspected the MC is his son but the king's subject did not even question his order on how the hell a prisoner could get a chunk of land instead of punishment.... I mean seriously?

But worst still is MC employer's parent. c'mon man? Their son was falsely charged and publicly accused as traitor, along with their daughter ens*aved... Finding out their bastard is a cuck fruit... And they did nothing... no protest, no rebellion, no embargo, no diplomatic strain, no nothing.... I mean this dukedom just get robbed off its future prospect and he act like a limp dick...

I know there's more to come so read it for spare time.... <<less

Wow what a wide ride until you crash at the end.

Arc 1: Academy act (10/10)

This is an amazing arc, it surpass all other story I know in this story rich and know how to control emotion.

... more>> Arc 2: (9/10)

This act about how MC building their fief and growth beyond the scope of arc 1. I must say it is not amazing like arc 1 but still good enough.

Arc 3 [First half] (8/10)

How our MC goes around the world, I can understand and a bit of sympathy for his action.

I can accept the element of the harem but...

Arc 3 [Last half] (4/10)

This is where the roller coaster crash and it crash hard, not only hard but it also burns down,... and explode. Not only illogic but it throws away all of the buildings that story build up until now. Toward the end, the pain is growing and in the last chapter, I wish I never read it in the first place.

So sorry despite the opening is amazing but the story ending sucks hard, I wonder if the author suddenly has a midlife crisis or somehow.

So to anyone that going to read. Yes, it will be worth your time, give it a chance but don't expect too much on the ending. <<less

Wasted potential

Its really sad because after arc 1 it felt like one of those novels you would never drop even if the quality drops significantly but I was wrong, arc 3 is an absolute joke and completely destroyed this novel.

The story progresses from decent to generic and by arc 3 turns to sh*t and trust me its an absolute joke. One of the best aspects of the novel is the romance between the MC and the Villainess which the author decided to ruined by introduce harem in Arc 3. It completely goes against the title of the novel making the romance thus far feel fake and making you question how deeply the MC was really in love.

Arc 3 spoilers

Spoiler

The Will of the world turns into a girl (I absolutely f*cking kid you not) and defeats the devil king. The will of the world is absolutely ret*rded and annoying beyond belief only second to Maria. She has fallen for the MC after watching him struggle all this time. In return for the help he has to abandoned his pregnant wife and they both go around the world as mercenaries and he has s*x with her. After 5 years the MC finally meets his wife. Apparently he's been depressed for 5 years presumable because he misses his wife but when he heard his wife was near by he tries to hide, it just doesn't make any sense. Hes also apparently in love with the will of the world and it turns out he was free to meet his wife but chose not to do so (wtf).

Has a really intense start, and is a good read until the inevitable timeskip. Rather than ending the story, the author chose to trudge on for another 50 chapters. I read to chapter 87, where the protagonist is flirting with a literal deus ex machina and casually fighting a war on the side, while being called things like:

“... The King of Calamity.”

“... The Ice-Blooded Doll Princess!”

... more>> “It’s the Sorcerer King!”

Honestly speaking, I had this pegged as a sorta chuuni novel from the start with how the magic system is tied to one's eye colour, and frankly I enjoy this kind of story a lot. It's just hard to suspend one's disbelief when you take all the limiters off of your bishounen goku and he starts trading one liners with platonic concepts on top of a mountain he singlehandedly collapsed.

It's consistent with the story, however the author tries to maintain a sense of urgency while flipping perspectives around an entire continent, seemingly keeping the pace of the plot going through repetitive proclamations of the situation becoming more and more serious. And then, chapter 87 happens.

Although, saying all of that, I did read 80 chapters of this over the last week. It is good up until that point. It's quite refreshing to have an author not be insecure about the setting they've written and just call out the arbitary game parts of it. <<less

Reading this novel is quite mentally tiring IMO. This is a novel on how to become a faithful dog that's all. But I must admit, the writing is clean and the translation is good. Furthermore the story progression is consistent. But still, when reading this novel is quite mentally tiring for it being the MC become a faithful dog that wags its tail when its master is there and sits, barks, paws, play, catch etc. I really hate that kind of mentality, it makes you show that it is the... more>> only way of how to do it. Too limited too low authority too unrealistic too absurd too unreasonable situations etc. I might be complaining but I still properly rate it at 4 stars nonetheless but I am dropping this novel for me to not feel more stress due to mentally tired of his position and limited actions he could take ah! The stress. <<less

Suprisingly very good story to read. The best arc when the heroine (i mean the villain in question) falling from nobility. Such tragedy and sad. This is the best Dating sim reincarnation genre I ever read.

Among all the novels from this site Japanese LNs outclass any other language LNs. Japanese can make super awesome things and also super bad ones. This novel is the example for an awesome Japanese novel.

The characters are not perfect but likeable. All the characters are given time though some of them haven't developed yet at the point I am reading.

It has detailed conversations between the characters with a psychological touch which I totally love. The battle scenes, romance and area/organisation development are all well done. It has some good amount... more>> of twists, a hateful antagonist and an OP MC. Though the MC is OP the problems he face are way beyond his league. He is literally fighting against the 'world'. Very excited for the future chapters.

If you need a good LN with awesome plot and amazing characters don't waste your time reading the comments. The chapters are big compared to standard web novel chapters. <<less

Not really fond of writing reviews but I felt I wanted to mention something the top ones missed - the much better than decent translation. Ignoring the occasional typos, the translation really made it "more English-ish" if you will.

Story - as of the second arc, it's still going really good. Pace is not that fast but I won't complain. It's good.

Characters, development - this ln really shines here. It frequently goes into the 2nd and sometimes 3rd layer of people's subconscious thoughts and feelings.

This novel is surprisingly deep and while there are plenty of reviews. I would just advise those who are reading these chapters to read the comments after the chapters as they provide great insight into what the progression of the plot would be.

The MC passes away (assumed) in his original world and proceeds to inhabit the body of a commoner in poverty who is faced with danger along with another unknown individual. Rather than take over the body, the two being somewhat fuse creating 3 personalities: the MC, the original... more>> soul, and a partial fusion of the two. Through various circumstances, the MC becomes the valet of an individual within the aristocracy and proceeds to try and increase the heir's chances of succession through various plots (somewhat dark). However, there is another variable......

Spoiler

Another Otherworlder exists within the world and he/she views it as an otome game, leading to her/him instigating many of the conflicts. However, this reality is not the same for our MC.

Spoiler

There are hints to the world itself obeying "game mechanic" reality, such as, regardless of MC's efforts, his benefactor continues lose his reputation as the story has went on

Well written, much better than most others on this site, and well translated, this is a surprising gem of a novel. I particularly liked how the protagonist meets and interacts with the theoretical otome game "protagonist. The characters are well developed, and though some are relatively powerful, it's not to the point of ridiculousness like in many other stories.

I started reading this with the expectation that it would be another stereotypical reincarnation/body takeover/game world story. But I was pleasantly surprised to find that the main character is able to adapt and develop in a way that makes sense. Minor spoilers in the following:
Spoiler

Rion is vicious, and I love his character for that. He isn't the "I'll avert my flags" sort of character, because he doesn't even realize that it is a game world. Moreover, the character of Rion isn't part of the game. His loyalty to Vincent is slightly odd, but at the same time the personality "Rion" doesn't seem to have the usual ambitions of conquering the world with cheat abilities. Rather, he truly supports Vincent, his lord.

[collapse]

I'm reminded of "My Death Flags Show No Sign of Ending" in terms of plot and character sophistication. Rion is truly able to become part of that world. Plus, it's refreshing to see a story about the noble heir's servant instead of the noble heir him/herself.
