When a futuristic scientist is transported into the body of a young man in a fantasy world, his curiosity and desire for power push him to pursue magic. In a world without mercy, Leylin has no qualms about doing anything if it means benefits. He is cold, ruthless and calculating, never forming attachments that could impede his ultimate goal…

Honor? Who needs that… Hmmm… that guy seems too powerful for me to take on now… I better keep a low profile for now.

You want me to help you? What do I get out of it? Nothing? Bye.

Hmm… that guy looks like he might cause me problems in the future. Better kill him before he becomes a problem…

I made an account just so I could rate this story 4.999/5 (due to rushed ending, thou it did make logical sence), and to tell the alturistic chldren who can only think of "good vs evil", to f*ck off and read about the Machiavellian philosophy, and then plase stop having the mantality of a 3 year old. Allso, this WILL help you later in life if you understand the premise of the philosophy, since it is how the world actualy works oance you stop telling white little lies.

The first 2/3 were pretty good, if you are looking for a mature and kinda emotionless protagonist this is a novel for you, but the last fifth was just terrible for me, it's not a fantasy anymore when dudes fight in space and random stars are getting destroyed from the attacks.

Warlock of the Magus World is an above average novel, the MC is critical and calculative, sometimes cruel, the world setting is built fairly well, and the story is pretty good. Like most other novels I have read through it has Chinese WN syndrome. Basically, that means it comes to a point where the author is unsure where to take the series and writes an ending that feels a little rushed/empty.

Should you read WMW? Of course, it's not too long, it has a fun gimmick, decent characters, interesting cultivation (power... more>> system), and the MC is kinda ruthless which can always be fun to read.

All in all 4/5, (Story) 4/5, (Characters) 4/5, and (Enjoyment) 4/5. <<less

This novel has many reviews already, but I feel like I should add My own to the collection. I want to write a short review, but We'll see how it goes. Before we start, I want to point out that this review is for newbies, just like Me. Spoiler free.

At the start I didn't want to read it at all, because it had over one thousand chapters, I felt like it was way too much. But after I had nothing to read, I decided to give it a try. Let... more>> Me remind You guys one thing - there's no such thing as perfection, at least not yet. This novel has a lot of plot holes, and many things were left unexplained.

BUT, But, but,

In my opinion, Author did a great job writing this novel. This part is hard to explain with words, but i'll try my best. I like MC, I feel like He's the right man in the right place. Author couldn't create better MC for this novel. Of course, there are things that I would do the other way in his place, but I'm not MC, so I can't complain about this. The world building was better than great as well and besides that, I have nothing else to add.

If you're discouraged because of other reviews - read first 10-12 chapters, I know it's a lot, but I feel like it's not a bad novel to recommend. If You have nothing else to read or You have a lot of them but You don't trust reviews, start from this novel. It's a long ride, and when You'll finally end it, You'll be more experienced in choosing novels to read. <<less

The main character of Warlock of the Magus World isn't like your other main character, there's no romance, friendship, or distractions, only the path to immortality and being the strongest one alive is what drives the main character. Ruthless and cunning, lives of mortals and gods are insignificant to the main character as long as they can be used to strengthen him, though this is something most readers wouldn't stomach, but I find it appealing for this story as the attitude of the main character doesn't change and from chapter... more>> one till the end, his goal and ambition remains clear without any drastic change of personality other than some character development.

Although the main character has an overpowered artifact that came with him during his transfer to the new world, later on, he would purely rely on his strength, intelligence, and wits alone as other characters would soon catch up since not everyone with strength are as dumb-witted and arrogant as most antagonist in other series, although there are some arrogant and brainless characters during the first few chapters, the stronger the playing field becomes, the more intelligent they scale up to as the cultivation or strength system in the story is solid and being strong means they have both strength and intelligence to back it up.

The plot is well-fleshed out and thought of as you would sometimes find yourself skimming back to previous chapters, connecting links throughout the main characters action as most things have been foreshadowed and planned out in a clever way without the reader's realization.

Overall, I would recommend this series, it has an amazing progression and would only get interesting as you read through its entirety, if not, I wouldn't have lasted till the end of the series at Chapter 1200 (which isn't much to some readers) with a satisfying ending. <<less

This book is one of the greatest I ever got the opportunity to read in my entire life as a novel reader. I really admire both the author for coming up with those amazing twists and plots and the translator for the excellent work he did on this story.

I love this novel quite a bit. I know this is a bit annoying of me but im just gonna counter argue the two main arguments I hear from peoples reviews, so nobody just judges this novel badly because of it.

  1. The first thing is how hes actually apathetic, he does whatever he can for his goals and that apparently makes the story bad. I don't understand how that works. Leylin has nothing but victory in his mind and sure, you don't get to see some things that lots of novels do, but tell me, have you ever seen a story like this, to this extent? Ive read countless novels and the only one that comes to mind that compares is Reverend Insanity, except it takes it along a different route. Either way, this story has a VERY unique idea and its only able to stay this interesting is due to the fact that the author doesn't break down and end up giving Leylin emotions. Throughout the story, he acts the same as he always been, without ever breaking the personality that was given to him by the author. So in conclusion for this argument, to the majority of one stars giving this argument, Dark Originality=Bad Story/Waste of time.
  2. The second argument that I hear a lot more is that his A.I. Chip does everything for him. Now, the amount I wanted to go throw something was crazy. I'll ask any of you that has a reasonable mindset and can think rationally. If you had a power that allowed you to do calculate things the human brain couldn't handle, would you abuse the sh*t out of, especially if it was tested completely? Now, I understand that people may argue that it wasn't fully tested as it was linked to his soul and was warped with him. But Leylin specifically said that it seemed to work like how it did on Earth, though it seemed to have more potential. Also you ma say that he shouldn't of used it for everything at the start. But you need to understand that he knew absolutely NOTHING about this world, so he had to rely on something that could help him with this. Id say there was nothing wrong with abusing the sh*t out of the power, as any main character would do the same. Sure, they wouldn't be apathetic, but the power doesn't rely on being apathetic, you could still use this power to a high extent without being apathetic. Though by being apathetic, he could fully use the A.I. Chip to its full extent as he would use any of the choices that the chip gave him, as he didn't have any morals to block a lot of those choices.
But my final point and main point on this is that, he has said he was a Scientist and would go to any lengths to reach see the truth of this world, and there should... more>> be no reason he can't abuse the sh*t out of the chip. Think about it, in modern days time, scientists use computers so much to help with there research, now if they were to have this chip, they would of course abuse the sh*t of it as well, why wouldn't they?

The story is not about how the A.I. Chip apparently does everything, in my opinion, after reading the entire novel, id say the story is more about how cruel or to what lengths Leylin would go to, as well as the COUNTLESS amount of schemes he made that id say were very new and fresh as they required someone that didn't care for morals in the slightest.

All in all, please don't just blindly agree with the reviews, as I am not right either, no matter what I said, as its very opinionated, but please, at least try it so you can see for yourself what this amazing story is like, for yourself.

Oh yeah btw, any spoiler you think I said, they were all from the first few chapters of the story, so yeah, sorry for spoiling the very start of it, that has no intensity at all. <<less

If you'd like to read a truly amoral, cold and calculating MC, with no regards of anything other than his interest, bulldozed his way through the ranks of universe, then this one is for you.

Imagine an op mad scientist single-mindedly pursuing knowledge.

The worldbuilding is vivid and solid. I appreciated the consistency of mc's personality. Just don't expect an extraordinary good plot/drama with character growth. But overall, this one is an enjoyable read. Keeps me scrolling. Totally recommended

A lot of people have problem with MC personality, but at least I can say that he stay true to his personality and is consistent through out all the 1200 chapters. I give 3/5 stars because sometimes the arc seemed to drag out for no apparent reason (Bad execution). Sometimes it seemed like author tried too hard to emphasize the cold-bloodness of MC. For example, author built up 'good-natured' characters for like 40 - 50 something chapters just to have their hope shattered, die in vain for MC gain (this... more>> happened 2 time. Both time leaved me question my own moral integrity). I mean, I've already got it. He's heartless and practical and all, but you don't have to waste so many chapters just for this right?
Plot wise, the result and direction of plot from each arc is epic, but it could be a lot better with better execution.
Overall 3/5. A nice and refreshing experience. A good wine to fresh out the bitter taste from those hypocrite xianxia MCs. You just have to skim through some boring part of the novel. <<less

The protagonist is an amoral and ruthless man (D&D categorization would probably be lawful evil or chaotic neutral). Basically, the MC often does risk-benefit analysis and doesn't mind being "evil" if it leads to self-benefit. The tags for the novel indicate as much, and so does the synopsis up top. As such, I don't get the reviews that give a low rating simply because the novel sticks to the genre it is supposed to be in. It's like faulting the MC of a harem novel for having too many love... more>> interests or the MC of a rag-to-riches novel for getting super rich after being poor.

The AI chip plot device is really gimmicky and isn't explained really well. Author could have just used innate super intelligence, or some other random explanation and there would be no impact on the story. The reincarnation isn't really needed either. These are however minor shortcomings (enough to take off one star).

Overall an entertaining read. <<less

One of my best reads

It starts off a little bit slow but after like 60 chapters out something like that it becomes much more interesting

MC is not some stop s*upid brute like Yun Che or Chu Fen

... more>> Leylin is not some s*upid helping anyone he meets mc

Every thing the MC does is to help him achieve true immortality

Leylin is like Ainz Oal Gown but much more calculating and ruthless

Leylins personality is a bit meh but is unique

Among the novels I read there are other main characters close to leylin like Muyoung from KoTB or Choi Hyuk from sovereign of judgement maybe even Tanya degurechaff from Saga if Tanya the Evil

Ending is a bit rushed it feels like an open ending

Spoiler

leylin basically achieves true immortality and suddenly a a brand new character with an ai chip suddenly appears it seems like leylin is chasing him for an unknown reason and he basically said the ultimate destroyer the Lord of original sin the seeker of truth traveling the multiverse the rank nine magus is going to destroy the world (maybe earth out something)

The only better novel I've read is I shall seal the heavens <<less

A version of the Fantasy mage story. There are a lot of similar stories, magus/adept with ai chip or special system etc, and I am not saying it is the best or the first, but it is pretty good

There are some flaws. The ending will definitely make you feel it was rushed, and there is no tension to the last 150 or so chapters as his power levels reach OVER 9000. Some of the name being pulled from books or games can also be off-putting, although you see it quite... more>> often in these Chinese novels with a western influence.
Spoiler

The God World is 100% based off D&D

. There are also a lot of characters that are just forgotten by the wayside during the story, while new characters are added to fill a particular plot point.

I would give this a recommendation for this novel. As it includes a lot of the cliches/plots/ideas that you can see in others of the genre, and this story is completely translated, it will be a good baseline for reading any similar novels. <<less

The AI chip is basically a tool to completely rush through power progression and cut out anything that might sound tedious. Whenever the author wants a change of pace, the chip is used to grant the MC overwhelming power all of a sudden and advance to the next power tier, where the author can be free to write something new.

The more interesting areas in the story are when the MC takes some disciple and trains them, because those characters actually have character development and there is the dramatic tension of... more>> not being sure if OP MC is actually being kind or plans to kill them in the end for w/e purposes.
Spoiler

Generally the latter

[collapse]
Even if that character is cliche, it's more entertaining than MC, who basically never undergoes any psychological character development from being an edgy, vengeful rationalist.

Practically everyone else is more interesting than the MC, and practically everyone important either gets screwed by MC or is forced to be MC's servant. <<less

MC transmigrate into a fantasy and magic world with his AI chip, and embarks on his own path to become the most powerful magus. The author put a lot of thought into this grand story, and it really shines. The translator did a great job as well!

TLDR;
Anything is possible with magic and fantasy. If you came to read about scientific methods and such, this isn't for you; I didn't read this to read about science anyways. World building is awesome. Side character arcs got boring though. Harem is... more>> bearable and not s*upid, but able to gloss it over and still enjoy the story.

Spoiler for longer comment:

Spoiler

MC is a researcher who uses tools for his benefit to reach goal. There's lots of bashing of MC not being scientist and the lack of the explanation of an AI's existence, but frankly I didn't read the novel wanting MC proving how he is a scientist or how an AI is possible with scientific process. I think that because this is a fantasy story with magic, it's good enough to explain anything is possible,..... and wasn't the AI chip was supposed to do the boring systematic and scientific research for the MC?
If you're looking for a sci-fi story that explains boring scientific methods and conjectures, look elsewhere. ^^

The world building is fantastic. I love when the MC ventures into a new worlds and learns how to adapt in order to be the most powerful.

However whenever a story arc shifts focus from the MC to a side character's point of view.... I started to skim or put the story down until there was a new arc, since I don't really care much about the side characters. And with so many characters in the story, it's really difficult to remember them... as in a way they are tools for the MC.

I'm glad the harem is not very prominent in the novel itself, but it does show up from time to time. It's ok enough for me to gloss over and not roll my over my eyes since the harem members aren't annoying or particularly s*upid....

This novel is like a dark pleasure to us. It caters to the world according to the perspectives of a man who wanted power at all cost. He is not a goody two shoes guys nor he is so evil that he ate babies for breakfast. He just do what he need to do to gain power. Its like reading a story from the perspectives of Darth Sidious or Lord Voldemort but with less insanity thinking and action involved.

From among the Chinese LNs I've read, this one is pretty good I guess. At least I didn't drop this.

You won't find any change with the MCs personality through this 1200 chapters.

What you will instead find is the setting change in every few hundred chapters, with the unchanging MC and his ambition, the unchanging cycle of bad guys aiming for said MC, unchanging allies that will be discarded sooner or later, till the MC reaches a state of godhood.

MC has nothing at stake, other than himself. His personality only defined... more>> as "More power! Don't get in my way! I'll get you next time!".
Spoiler

MC only ever faced a setback once, when his power degraded from rank 2 to rank 1. The underground arc where he doesn't directly act as he was recuperating was mildly interesting.

This journey in the pursuit of truth is so dull, but at least I can say I finished a xianxia novel. <<less

Enjoyment 4/5

Appreciation 6/5

Final 5/5

... more>> This novel isn't flawless...

but it's pretty damn close.

If you still enjoy the "hot-bloodness", "heroicness" and progress through action troupes, then maybe it's not the time to read this yet.

The MC isn't acting like he's the MC of the story, on the opposite his is valuing his life and his future/progress. That makes the novel seem slower than others, but its actual pacing is good.

Also as a character with the traits I mentioned, he will often avoid attention or even remain bystander on various situation happening. But all these are part of the beauty of it.

The world isn't revolving around around the MC, with events appearing in front of him, but it's the MC who is trying to get the best of what he has.

About the complains regarding his personality, they are completely baseless. Of course he isn't a nice guy in any case, but other than that he just adapts to the situation/world he is in, and he's as evil as it's practical to be. The way he evaluates the situation and proceeds with his path is the reason why this novel is so highly appreciated.

Ch 1-80 are a bit hard to pass,

Ch 80-200 are already enjoyable

and after that is just very good. <<less

This novel starts promising, and then mainly fails to deliver, but there's some interesting scenery along the way... at least until the author breaks into the shameless plagiarism & fanfiction, anyways.

There are a few things that this story does decently well. The union of western & xianxia fantasy tropes is fairly interesting, winding up with 'arcane cultivation', and to be honest this winds up putting the main character into some pretty interesting and creative scenarios. Also, there's a science-ish element added via the "A.I Chip", which allows the main character... more>> to do things like improve cultivation methods, run experiments, and so on - again, not your typical xianxia fare. For a while, the author actually has an interesting and original setting that draws you in to the story; even when the character development is lacking the setting can often make up for it, especially in the beginning (before the author starts blatantly ripping off Forgotten Realms novels, for example - more on that later.)

Other things that the story does... are more of a mixed bag. Leylin, the main character, is ridiculously ruthless. Sometimes that works out really well - there are a few schemes and long cons that he runs which are really interesting, have great payoffs at the end, and so on. On the other hand, Leylin quickly becomes a one-note character, forgoing any and all emotional development in favor of getting forever stronger. He isn't exactly unique among xianxia characters for doing this, but his total lack of emotional depth is especially noticeable because he's such a scumbag. When he eventually settles down and starts a family, he mostly thinks of them as boring toys that aren't up to his power level and therefore aren't important, which is just jarring.

Also, the author has an issue with showing vs. telling, especially when it comes to intelligence. Leylin's intelligence is supposed to be one of his biggest assets, but convincingly demonstrating intelligence in a character is really hard to write, so in practice there's a lot of self-indulgent bragging about how great he is for having invented X and Y, or for letting the supercomputer attached to his soul do it, which is apparently much the same thing. It isn't unforgiveable, but it is an issue.

Especially towards the end, the quality of the writing starts to take a dive. I think what the author intended to do was to set up a plane-traveling adventure where Leylin jumps into all sorts of different interesting scenarios in order to plumb the secrets of the universe, but in practice the interestingness of many of these planes that he visits varies wildly, so you have entire arcs like the Shadow World arc that I essentially just skimmed past because they were so pointless. Then there's the Forgotten Realms arc, where the setting is sort of interesting but only because the author plagiarized the heck out of a D&D setting. He does some okayish things with the setting, and if the author wants to write fanfiction more power to him I guess, but again he winds out losing the opportunity to set things instead in a more unfamiliar & interesting world.

Overall, there's enough here that I would recommend most readers who haven't tried the story to jump in and give it a go, but I'd say that once you start getting bored, walk away - it doesn't get any better. <<less

Summarize this novel is anti-hero with decent plot. It's not perfect or smart but it's refreshing enough among tons of other novels because it's dark and you can't help thinking that the author probably just hates human. MC is somewhat very robot-like, he adheres to some weird philosophies of his. Of course the typical heaven's luck or every-step-MC-makes-MC-steps-on-landmine setting is there but it's in the realm of 'Well.. Fair enough' kind of feeling.

You can't help to notice that there are some stuffs inspired from Harry Potter. After that, some new... more>> elements are being introduced such as science, demons, devils, etc. <<less
