In less than an instant the world as we knew it was at its end.

That’s right. The Apocalypse. In a single blink Zombies appeared and mutated monsters began to rampage all throughout the world. Now it was the human species turn to fight for survival and planetary dominance!

On the same day that the world descends into chaos we meet Yue Zhong. Initially only hoping to get to his friends and escape to a refugee camp our protagonist sets out, inadvertently building a team along the way. After a series of fortuitous events and a few serious hunches our hero decides it’s time to do more than just survive!

Yue Zhong begins to form the foundations of an enormous survival plan… before he suddenly discovers that he has only gotten over the first hurdle…. Unbeknownst to Yue Zhong and company, the world outside of China is mostly a wasteland! Country sized swathes of nuclear radiation and an extreme shortage of supplies in the world after the nuclear explosions was quickly becoming the “norm”. Mutants, Evolved animals and what’s worse, intelligent out of control dinosaurs had quickly appeared and claimed their own sections of the planet. There were several innately powerful Evolved races which appeared that were more than 10 times stronger than humans, nearly all of them possessing bodies impenetrable by normal bullets. The fabled orcs’ were another of these Evolved races, the leader of which had in fact ens*aved many of the remaining human beings.

Unceremoniously exposed to such a cold and heartless new world, Yue Zhong is faced with a choice: Find a deep dark hole and hope it goes back to “normal”? Or overcome all obstacles and struggle towards Evolution!!!

Starts off really well, with interesting dynamics in this newly evolving world--- quickly devolves into garbage. Stick around if you want to be thoroughly let down later on in the story (if you haven't already been disappointed.)

MY GOD, THE ABSOLUTE WORST NOVEL IN EXISTENCE!

This novel is the example of pure Chinese propaganda and the extent of their racist homophobic indoctrination in their society. Ugh.

[P.S. This is not an sjw rant.]

... more>> First lemme clear out some of the issues that every half hearted novel suffers from.

1. Repeating arcs = check

2. Plot armor and super luck = check

3. Side characters 1D and forgotten after each arc = check

4. Idiotic arrogent weak ass 1D villians= check

Ok, let's get to the atrocities unique to only this novel.

1. Women are nothing but objects.

The women in this novel are garbage. They have no value other than for s*xual relief. Sure some will argue that there are strong female characters, but here's the catch, they fall under three categories.

a. She is ugly, dies in 1-3 chapters max.

b. She is hot, becomes MCs f*ck toy, only to be forgotten 10 chapters later. May have a cameo later (not more than a mere mention)

c. Hot, but won't be his b*tch, so he kills her or she dies somehow. And also she's more evil that hi*ler.

That's all you need to know about 'powerful women' in this novel.

Ordinary women, they are trading objects, men will make them their dogs, break them, eat them, kill them, abuse them, beat them, grill them, fry them, roast them and dismember them. You think I'm joking, NO, all this actually happens. In chapter 584, one women is being r*ped, with her hands broken, eyes gauged out, tongue cut off and while being eaten alive. You get the idea.

2. CHINA NUMBA 1

I've seen pro Chinese novels, they are upto the level of " wow, China is most technically advanced ". This is on another level.

Upto chapter 585, MC goes to Vietnam, Japan, and Indonesia. He also has contact with European forces. EVERY person in these nation's is a monster. They r*pe women, make them their broken toys etc.

Every time their nation is introduced, the author starts a monologue about how before the apocalypse, that nation was anti Chinese, they killed and hunted Chinese in their country. Etc etc etc. You get the idea. Then he proceeds to kill innocent people, unless it is some hot chick of course. At first the author tries to act like there is a language barrier, but next line, there is a Chinese dude who can translate, and boom, no more barrier.
He then proceeds to conquer the nation, while rescuing fellow Chinese people being abused, here and there he finds some Chinese abusing the other nationalities, but he forgives them. BUT WAIT, when the foreigners do it, instant death.

He kills foreigners left and right, for saying the wrong thing, or refusing him, or ignoring him. But one Chinese dies, his eyes become red, he becomes angry, his brain starts to mourn for his fellow Chinese brother, his soul brother he never even interacted with, and he goes on a killing spree.

I can go on and on, but I'll stop here, you get the idea.

3. Forgotten game world mechanics??

This is more like another common mistake, but I'll just put it here anyway. At lv 10 he finds a newbie village where he gets his class, there are all kinds of other classes that are important to the world, clearly a very important aspect of the novel and the world. 500 chapters later, it's nowhere to be found, not one mention.

At this point, I'm just reading because this novel is actually a very interesting piece of work. It provides a deep look into the mind of a racist, homophobic, communist Chinese nationalist. I read chapters at the rate of 1 chapter in 15-20 seconds. The title itself gives away what happens anyway. This novel is the holy Bible for brainwashed Chinese. That's probably why even qidian picked it up. I can't fathom to imagine how this novel has so many 5 star ratings. <<less

The most repetitive LN I've ever read.

The is no setting or, well, there is some kind of "God" who woke up and started this whole mess. There is also a "system" based on skills, levels, classes and such, but it's basically useless and totally random. Equipment and skills are random drops from monsters: if you have sh*t luck you will always get the same 2-3 crap skills. The consequence of this is the fact that the class our MC picks up was randomly unlocked thanks to the random skills he... more>> found from those random mobs; it's not like he had any special link with that class, he just got it. At least he is lucky enough to be able to access the system in the early chapters (he and his best friend are probably the only ones to be able to choose a class in wole China) : we are 460 chapters in and there is no further access nor interaction with said system (which is pretty important, since it should be the whole point of the entire novel: the place where you can learn class-related skills, upgrade equipment, pick up quests..).

The feeling I got from this novel is like playing an open world video game without a main storyline/questline: like playing skyrim without any of the dragonborn/empire-vs-stormcloaks storyline; heck without even dark brotherhood/thief guild/companions and other faction/secondary plots. There is basically no point in the whole thing: our MC just gets into a survivor base, gains followers, becomes lord of the base (by mu*dering the rulers or by gaining influence and setting a coup after defending said base from zombies).. Then he just moves to next city/survivor base (leaving all followers behind) and starts again.

Women are basically a currency, virg*ns are worth a little more (about the same as a ration). Naturally all virg*ns in this world can't resist the urge of grabbing our MC's d**k. Racism and stereotypes are everywhere: Europe is just Europe (no distinction between countries, while you can see distinction in Asia: but this is just poor education, I guess), every Westener is some kind of nazi/white suprematist, all Vietnamese are genocidal rapists and Japanese are pigs: literally, this is what you'll read. Wits are totally useless when your fists (or your pets) are stronger than anything else: he just kills whoever glances at him the wrong way. There is basically no effort, no stratagems on his part. Also, there is no arguing, no opinion exchange: everyone is either a blind follower or a corpse.

There is also this common scene (at least 5 times by now) with hostages: he gets em lined up, threatens the first one to gain information, said hastages curses MC, MC shots him; next is the second hostage who doesn't talk fast enough: he gets killed too; the third one decides to talk and spill everything (betraying his comrades) while the fourth one rages:"bastard, why are you betraying us!"; so our dear MC orders third guy to prove his newfound loyalty for MC by beheading fourth guy with a machete. Seriously, when I see hostages I know I can just skip the whole chapter and not miss anything.

I've kept reading till now just because it's pretty fast paced and he grows more powerful at a nice speed, which can be pretty exciting at first, but I cant stand reading the same thing over and over again anymore, hence I'm dropping this. <<less

This is a great novel it has a cool story, I really like the ranking up system, the cool weapons and it shows the true ugly side of humanity when they are faced with crisis. Ignore the feminist bad comments this is a must read novel, I understand why they hate this novel, I know is sexist the way women a used like s*x toys or commodities, but lets be realistic this is what would happen in a real apocalyptic situation, people would be used depending on their usefulness,... more>> thats how its always has been, we can just see our history. <<less

A bit racist, but even so I like it. The thing I like the most is the decisiveness of the MC. The other characters are mostly there to fulfill the MC's whims, no depth to them. Women are basically MC's harem, and men are either deep admirers of the MC, of absolute scum of the society. If you can bypass these faults, you will probably like it.

Honestly, I like the story mostly, so that's why I'm reading it.

It can seem bland, but the moment you think that, there's a plot twist. One of the few novels I've read where there's never a dull moment.

People complain about the racism and sexism. Hello, do you live in modern society? All of that happens now, we just pretend it doesn't exist. If you think the novel is too racist or sexist, congratulations, you're a hypocrite. :)

You only need to read a maximum of 100 chapters to get what the whole story is all about, including the later chapters.

The author is tr*sh. The writing and story is tr*sh. The MC is tr*sh. But then again pretty much all the other characters are more tr*sh than the MC as if only tr*sh characters are left in that world. I'd even believe it was like that before the apoc even began given how fast so many became like that. They didn't even wait a week. They all share... more>> one thing in common, lust. It's an endless supply cycle of beautiful tr*sh women and tr*sh antagonist rapists for the rest of the story.
Spoiler

Only best girl Ji Qing Wu and best bro Chi Yang are actually decent. The only reason I gave this an extra star are for these 2 characters. Chi Yang is really only a side character who doesn't really do anything other than help MC though.

The ONLY strong female was Ji Qing Wu who appeared right in the beginning and teamed up with MC. She's brave/fearless, loyal, honest, and strong enough to be the only one who could match MC. One would've thought she'd be the main heroine but nope, the author decides to immediately downgrade her to a minor side character whose strengths got completely left behind by the MC and his plot armor. Made her leave MC and is absent from the story for over 100 chapters. Now even if she comes back, she'd still be a minor character.

[collapse]

NOW let's talk about the key major issue of this novel. Other reviews have probably talked about this, I'm leaving my thoughts anyways.

This story is unbelievably sexist and completely unrealistic. I'm not exaggerating. Seriously, MC keeps meeting pretty/beautiful women left and right. Where the fk did they all come from in a zombie apoc? All the females are weak af and want protection and food etc. They want his D just because he can offer all those. They can't do anything themselves because author made them that way. No seriously, how did they even survive that long in the first place?

So eventually MC has an army. Notice how there's no females mentioned anywhere in it? Because author decides females can't fking fight or do anything other than to be r*ped or protected or chores. MC and his underlings kept rescuing abused pretty/beautiful women/girls. Never did any of them try to fight back or have any sort of power.

The author also made MC like he's the only one in that world with any survival instincts and common sense. Badass? Merciless? All I see is a ret*rded MC.

Spoiler

For example, he sends some people to fight a monster that they stand no chance against, no guns can damage it. They're completely useless against it in fact. Basically they're f*cked. Obvious smart choice was to run, but nope MC kills them himself for fleeing because his rules. MC expects them to just stand there and die for nothing? What the f*ck?

Also, all those girls approaching with obvious agendas, nope still takes them in, feed them. Sure author show us MC's kindness and humanity like he's not merciless. But why the f*ck is he even lusting after or falling in love with them??? Worst possible thing in an apocalypse world is to be controlled by useless emotions like lust and love. Waste of energy and complete hindrances. Especially when they're not loyal and scheme due to jealousy and greed. Especially in that world where women are useless af.

[collapse]

I'm not feminist nor am I even female. I've read plenty of novels enough to recognize tr*sh writing when I see it. The ONLY reason you should be reading this is for the zombie apocalypse + gamelike theme, not for the characters or romance or anything. <<less

This novel is a very close look at what the world would be like in a post apocalyptic type situation. Some may say it's too racist, sexist or that it digresses as the story continues, but that my friend is ignorance. If the world was really put in such a situation what do you think would happen? Who would maintain the laws? Who would protect others at the cost of their own live? Who could hold in their desires with death always around the corner (some times literally :D)... more>> ? How many women in today's society are truly independent? Though women are free to achieve as much as they want, gender inequality is a big thing in lower class systems with predominantly women born into wealth tend to be more independent. Is racism really no longer an issue? I would consider my self well travel and though not often I still run into cases of begin treated differently for my pigmentation/nationality. This novel shows true nature of humans what happen as they begin to digress and the law is no longer their to hold principles in line. The quality does not decrease as the novel goes but rather it slowly increases, and though there are admittedly some areas in which it lacks it is still an unknown how it will develop. Things like his change in character or the monotony of the story telling are just progression. Ones views change as they become more experienced and see's what the world and humans are truly like whilst all games are in essence about grinding, read the manga " The Gamer" you'll see what I mean. <<less

This novel is a pretty interesting one, it's got action, in a world with zombies with an rpg-like system implemented, where characters level up as they keep killing zombies like any other rpg, sure, it has racist remarks sometimes, but it's not so often that you can't even enjoy the read, same with the remarks about women, some of them might be rude, but, most people who read it already know it's not really recommended for sensitive people, so I really have a need to disagree to people saying those... more>> remarks ruined the novel for them since they kinda limit other people to giving it a try <<less

I like RPG games, I like postapocalipsis and cold and prudent MC and this novel is a mix of this all and more. It's a R18 novel so there're a lot of blood, s*x scenes, kinda psycology of a human nature in a p.a. World etc. So I dont't recomend it for a guys and girls whi cannot endure that. Also there're racism, but I don't realy care bout that, It's just authors and MC's opinion and thanks to translators editors a lot of that was covered. Reeeeally THNX! Bout... more>> sexism, maan there're a lot of independent girls, womans, but it doesn't mean that they dont't want to eat, they don't scare of zombies and wanna live a better life so thats why they must find someone to protect them. Even if U're super businesswoman, or kickboxergirl, they have a husbands and boyfriends why? R'nt they independent? And Harem. If U take a look at nature only the stongest have a right to past their progeny be it a wolf pack or a lion pride. But still have a s*x with 13-15 years girls it really doesn't sound good, but still it's p.a. World. <<less

I really enjoy the theme of this novel. I like the action as well as development of the main character. It is definitely something that could offend people with some of its content. I don't like some of the time the author writes chapters that aren't crucial to the development of the story and adds a lot of detail that isn't important. He is also constantly adding new characters all of the time and then just seems to shelve them and put them aside, then brings them up in random... more>> topics or conversation down the road. I then have to try to remember who they were and what they did in the past which is kind of annoying. I have enjoyed the story so far and think its worth the read. <<less

[The good]:The setting for this story is well done, who doesn't love a good zombie apocalypse with quickly evolving mutant beasts and system that allows you to level up and obtain loot from killing them? To me this has unlimited potential.

The protagonist (Yue Zhong) is fairly well done as well, at the start of the apocalypse the order In the city was quickly collapsing so he quickly comprehended the situation and took the lead to save the survivors who had the courage to fight or those who had the ability... more>> to help some other way.

Yue Zhong has his own code of conduct is very determined in his way of doing things. He seems to be a tyrannical ruler but his method ensures order and is a deterrent to those who would r*pe and mu*der in his community. Yue Zhongs troops, subordinates, friends, and lovers are deeply loyal to him to the point where they can maintain order even if he inexplicably disappears.

[The bad]: I honsetly expected more of a solo/small party survival story when I first started reading it so I was a little disapointed when he started building an army/empire however this isnt that bad either.

Even with the god and devil system everyone still relies heavily on modern weapons which wouldn't be so bad if they were apart of the god and devil system.... so much wasted xp...

As for the r*pe, mu*der, racism, s*avery, although I don't condone it, such things things occur even in today's society dont even mention a time/place where the government is in shambles and death could be right outside your door. Even if it darkens the theme of the story it fits the setting very well.

tl:dr It's a great story and I recommend it to those who like zombies being turned into meat paste lol <<less

If you like to read OP MC, then I recommend to read this novel. The story shows the cruelty of human nature in apocalyptic world. You can skip reading this one if don't want to read novels that has a dark story then don't post reviews that is prejudice to the novel. If you are new in reading Chinese novel I would like to remind you that most MC are ruthless to their enemies and it has a diff with Japanese novels.

This is my favorite game elements and zombie novel to read. It has its flaws but the author seems to know that and fix them as the series goes on; while it is not perfect it is just as good if not better than other game novels like Log Horizon or one of my other favorites Terror Infinity.

Hey, I'm on chapter 309. I love this novel, but be forewarned this novel is racist and sexist to woman. It's very racist to like anyone who's not Japanese. Which I have the tolerance to ignore because even though the author can be rude as hell and make stereotypes I can ignore that because for the most part the main character isn't a complete a**hole. And I just care about the awesome action and how he tries to form his own faction so yeah. Read it if you will but... more>> if you can't bear a little racism then this is not for you. <<less

I honestly like this story. MC has a different ideology than others so they clash. It's not the usual "I am f*cking OP so I will crush you" - style. The most amazing aspect of this story is the world it creates and describes, the setting pictured in this novel is truthfully one of the best I have ever encountered.

Some people said in their reviews that there is a lot of nationalism, racism and sexism, well there is a bit but without it this story wouldn't feel so real.

Overall the story is very exciting with a vivid world plunged into despair. The only drawback is that author introduces a sh*tload of characters which is sometimes a bit confusing.
