Ling Xiao was secretly in love with a girl named Mo Qi; because of an accident, they both crossed into the ancient times.

Mo Qi who was preinstalled with the Mary Sue halo, in these ancient times, walked to the summit with a golden finger.

However, Ling Xiao continued to be exploited by Mo Qi.

After he no longer had any values to exploit, he soon became a pitiful cannon fodder.

The heavens decided to take pity on Ling Xiao.

And gave Ling Xiao an opportunity for rebirth.

After rebirth, he vowed that all his enemies would repay him with a debt of blood!

However, why have all these enemies of his, fallen into the mode of cutting their heads open?

“Hey, are you really that unremarkable person who used to follow behind Mo Qi?”

“So this dance was originally danced by you, sigh……”

“You are obviously a man, yet you move me so much.”

“Enough! Since you have taken the initiative to provoke me, then you must concentrate on me!”

Ling Xiao expressed: If you want to counterattack, then counterattack. As long as your golden finger is bigger than Mo Qi’s.

But how did Mo Qi’s Mary Sue halo end up in his body! He is still a straight man who likes beauties! He definitely, definitely doesn’t want to turn bent!

Summary: This story is an example of a flaming dumpster fire. I start off liking all the characters. I end up losing all affection for them at the end. MC becomes a s*upid f*ck halfway in. People hating on the Emperor are ignorant (except for the last bit, where he choked the MC, but there's a whole story behind that--MC being part of the blame) because he IS the Emperor. The fact that he let all of the MC's dumbsh*t slide past him... it doing so much already. For all... more>> that he'd done, MC would've died many times over (as I'll mention later).

I saw a lot of other reviewers saying the same thing, which is basically along the lines of: strong start, weak end. And I agree. Overall rating... 4.1-4.2 stars. The rating on NU is pretty accurate.

The novel starts off really well, at a 5-star level. The MC is self-confident, but not too arrogant, and also quite intelligent in the way he deals with things. The Emperor also doesn't build his feelings in a blink of an eye, although his feelings develop within a month or so.

Spoiler

The MC starts off as a good schemer (we all love a good scheming MC). He does things behind the scenes, pulls off reasonable moves, and his attitude towards the 'female lead' is justified. BASICALLY, all in all, for the first half-ish of the book... it was pretty good. I was even considering giving a 5-star. But I decided to finish it first, and that's when it started to turn to shit. When? Somewhere into his stay with Fu Yujun.

[collapse]

As I said, he STARTS OFF pretty well, but as we progress, the reader can pretty much watch him deteriorate in live-action. Another reader said this: MC becomes a smart modern guy to a weak flower that is sickly to a hot-headed pepper... and they're completely On-The-Dot with that. He starts deteriorating into mood swings like he's pregnant.

Spoiler

Putting that aside for a second, let's talk about the Emperor. I see a lot of people complaining about the 'dynamic', but I think it's pretty on point. Of course, the MC is scared all the time. This is the ancient era, where rulers could end a subject's life in a single swoop and nobody will give a f*ck. The MC's life is in the Emperor's hands. And some people say it's Stockholm Syndrome or whatever, but I don't agree. You can already see, in the beginning when the Emperor gives the MC kisses here and there, that the MC isn't disgusted. Dude even gets hard. He's just got this huge brick-wall mental block against the actual getting-f*cked, as well as the fact that dude's gotta hide his d*ck because eunuchs get their ENTIRE dick+balls cut off as castration. (This clearly differs from when Fu Yujun kisses him, where he only feels disgusted).

[collapse]

Spoiler

And the r*pe. I don't read novels with r*pe... I hate 'em. The r*pe is almost always unnecessary and unneeded. Rarely does it makes sense... and here, it makes decent sense. The man is the Emperor for god's sake. If he'd wanted too, he could've just ordered the MC to have s*x with him, and kill him if he didn't. And that'd be fine. Cruel, horrible, but fine, BECAUSE THIS IS THE ANCIENT ERA FOLKS. The Emperor isn't supposed to be some kind, angelic, guy. The first time, MC was drugged, yes. I'd honestly call it very very very dub-dub-dub con. VERY DUBIOUS CONSENT. But they only *really* had s*x after the MC climbed onto his lap and kissed him to soothe his anger (at discovering the MC's dick. The Emperor hates lies). The second time, the MC practically gives in. There's a brief struggle, but then all's well. He ain't even drugged that time. His body just became really sensitive (which I personally do not understand. Having s*x with the Emperor once suddenly gave him a nympho body. *shakes head*).

[collapse]

Everyone says he's to overbearing, too controlling (with all his spies), but we are doing this based on ANCIENT ERA values. Not modern-day values. And you know what? The way he treated the MC, for ALL the sh*t he pulled... was practically angelic. For all his later actions, MC would have died Many. Times. Over. But he didn't. The Emperor let him go every single time.

Now let's talk about the plot. Honestly, I was shipping the two of them hardcore until sh*t started to hit the fan. I was like ???????
Spoiler

It went from 0 - 100 so fast I was like dude... what the f*ck. Mind you, I was already starting to dislike the MC some point into his stay with Fu Yujun (dude was becoming dumber and dumber), but still liked him somewhat. I like the Emperor a lot, too. I practically squealed when I realized he placed a spy by the MC. I was like damn, so cool. And I stayed like that TILL THE DUDE LITERALLY LAUNCHED A FRICKIN' GENOCIDE. Dude started a whole f*cking war... and for a simple, simple reason. To get the MC back. Omg, how romantic... not?? Like think about it... tens of thousands of people died, a whole country was completely ruined leaving its residents in horrible condition... for what. A single dude? Like that plot development was so f*cking unnecessary, I was goddamn pissed.

[collapse]

Spoiler

And it only got worse from there. From then on, I only liked about one of every ten actions from the MC. ESPECIALLY the last bit of the story. I read through the whole thing like who am I??? Where am I??? Why the f*ck is this happening???? The MC COMPLETELY DEGENERATED into a petty woman. I get jealousy... and it's fine to feel it. But he becomes so goddamn inconsiderate, like, dude he's the f*cking Emperor. Think of his position. The MC starts throwing jealous hissy fits every two sentences, it's like 'being in love' f*cked up what brain cells he had left. He starts to constantly throw bit*h moves, (he even cuts a girl's face--mind you the girl schemed against him, so justifiably so-- BUT THINK. ABOUT. THE. EMPEROR. The girl was the daughter of a major-political power in the court. He should've thought through his actions. At that point, he could've just as easily reported it to the Emperor, or acted aloof and wait for the Emperor to do something---which the man probably was) which lands the Emperor into a cluster f*ck of hot water. He creates so many damn problems I was like??? A WTF face the whole way through.

Then, the MC gets needlessly stubborn about having one of the concubines as a friend, towards which the Emperor is irrationally angry, and that ends with them at each other's throats as MC demands the Emperor disperse the harem, leaving the Emperor a hair's breadth from killing him (which he only stops from doing so... when he recalls how they first met, the MC bumped into him--which I found completely s*upid. If anything, he should've stopped because he remembered the feelings in his heart, or whatnot. Not cause of some damn past memory suddenly flashing by). Basically, they get into a huge fight over f*cking nothing.

[collapse]

AND THERE. THERE, I decided Nah-Nah, this sh*t ain't even 4.5 star anymore. The ending chapters were a culmination of ALL that I hated.

    1. The MC is, or rather, becomes a s*upid impulsive f*ck.
    2. The ML pulling a huge move for and under the influence of the MC, which hurts himself. I mean, the harem was a huge political factor... but the MC didn't give a f*ck about that.
    3. Modern. Technology. God..... GOD, I HATE IT WHEN MC'S START f*ckING WITH ANCIENT TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCES. After getting the ML to disperse the harem, he justifies it by giving the ML a bunch of modern technology blueprints... which left me like ??? First: Dude, you're an art student. It doesn't make sense for you to know all that. It's like the author just pulled it out of her ass. Second: Do you realize you're giving your country hegemony over others (which is fine, because hey, ancient era, but--) in an artificial way?? You're completely f*cking with the timeline. It seems nice, now. But think about the long term. Maybe this Emperor will control himself from wreaking havoc, with the bombs you introduced, but what about others? What about the next Emperor, and the next? Can you guarantee they won't just go and start wars here and there because of the advantages they now hold? NO. NO. YOU. CAN'T.
    4. Mary Sue. This part is simple. Every time any character with romantic interest sees the MC, they interpret his actions as "omg so cute, what a kitten, ah his eyes are SO CLEAR and SO INNOCENT, he gives a refreshing feeling, ah it's like a cute hamster pawing at your heart..." even as he simply stands there, not doing anything. It makes no sense.
And that aside,

Also, about the MC... he gets so damn tunnel-visioned and obsessive about killing the ex-female lead that he's close to going about and assassinating her, himself. Just because the author doesn't order her death. Like, dude, she's already isolated and trapped and never-gonna-get-out. What happened to all the patience you had at the beginning??

Spoiler

Also, his treatment of those below him. Especially Xiao Lizi. The only reason (given to us) that Xiao Lizi betrayed the MC, was because he feared for his life. He was honestly one of my favourite side characters. Boy was sensible and decent-natured. Now, why did he fear for his life? Because of the MC. The MC could have just as much treated the man decently and said a few good words to him. But no, in every scene, the MC is berating him or telling him to f*ck off, when the man is just trying to be friendly. So JUSTIFIABLY, when the MC becomes the second-most powerful person in the palace, he starts fearing for his life, because NOTE: The MC never, ever treated him nicely. The MC only ever had a bit*h face on when the dude came in, and when the dude came out. So I don't blame his betrayal. MC deserved it for having become so awful. Even the Emperor thought the two were close. Well, I'd also ignored the signs at the beginning-- signs showing that the MC was the type to cower before the strong and tower over the weak

[collapse]

Anyways, all in all, it's like the author personally set out to tear the story to pieces. It had such a strong start... but now I'm just left feeling like I wasted my time. Everyone agrees on this point, pretty much. You start off liking the MC, but midway through dude becomes an annoying person, and by the end, he's pretty much an entitled b*tch. No going around it. Both he and the Emperor go Cuckoo at the end.

The plot was pretty okay. The author's good writing made off for a pretty good story. It had its dramatic moments, it's suspenseful moments, and it drew the reader in. 'Tis pretty well written, and I enjoyed it before it became a dumpster fire. The scenes were described vividly, and the actions were decently rational, not illogical. Not how I use past tense, though. It's just too bad she decided to f*ck it all up by making the reader hate the MC. All good feelings go to hell when the MC becomes a s*upid f*ck. <<less

Even though the ending was abit sudden but the extra piece at the end was super funny and satisfying my curiosity.

firstly, who said the MC was intelligent but was s*upid when he was falling in love? His moral standing was right from the start to ending, he never waver from kindness nor ran away from their love. I believe everyone will feel jealous despite how much they are intelligent, what I wanted to say was, the more you love the more you care about those s*upid tiny bit mistake your... more>> lover does, so this is natural in my view.

onto the plot, the story was interesting, invading my curiosity, lifting my spirit then put it down the next, feeling the characters’ feelings despite the lack of expressing and it was satisfying as the ML knew about the past life of the MC at the end. I could say more or less this was the best novel I recommend for people who like reading LN, but was also curious about the deed they did because the explanation on the action wasn’t too much exploited and was forward a lot of time to the point I hated it, but it was still what I like because further explain would spoil the story.

i never write reviews before but I hope to help someone see that this was a highly short yet recommending novel from me so far. I love it and I hope everyone will excuse my error in English. <<less

It's ok? I re-read this series once or twice because of the novel experience it gives me, not everyday that the MC actually liked the the FL in the past only to get betrayed, reborn then come back for revenge. She cut his d*ck off wuwuwuu FL is cruel...

World building was pretty good, explanations for most things, maybe some loose ends but it's forgettable.

Romance? It was low-key scary, ML is like a hidden landmine literally won't know what triggered him till MC steps on it. This fear is further amplified... more>> because the MC is also scared of ML, although understandable I can't help but feel like I'm walking on thin ice whenever ML appears.

Supporting ML

Spoiler

So the main supporting ML is Yujun and he isn't bad, sometimes I like the scenes with him better because I don't feel like everything is going to go to sh*t in the next paragraph, but he has too much second ML vibe so orz sorry Yujun lol

[collapse]

Spoiler

WeiLan made no sense because he suddenly discovered his feelings for MC in the later chapters for some reason? I don't know it feels like the author shoveled it in there for shits and giggles?

[collapse]

ML

Spoiler

This dude scares me, I've never felt scared over the reactions of MLs before but I have now. He is literally omnipotent, nothing escapes him and that in itself is pretty scary. MC is constantly fearing for his life and you know what? I can relate. Hell if MC was an actual person I'm pretty sure he'll be in an insane asylum...I'm exaggerating but he's scary...

[collapse]

MC

Spoiler

MC is a smart boi, and sometimes he's cute? Ok the novel doesn't really make him endearing to the readers, sometimes I question what he does. But he's smart and magnanimous which is great, I've had my fair share of overbearing MCs haha, but one of the only times where he is stubborn was to demand ML to clear out his harem, which he did, alls well ends well. MC like I said is scared of ML for like 7/10 of the novel, although there is smut and fluff I always have a foreboding feeling..

[collapse]

Although I say alot, nothing is better than reading the novel yourself, so translation has finished, no harm reading right? <<less

A new take on the rebirth and revenge stories, and I like where it's going so far. Ever wondered about what happens to the Also Rans in a harem novel? Here you go! Except in this case the heroine isn't a pure hearted angel and the childhood friend that came with her from the modern era isn't going to forgive and forget. I got impatient and started reading the MTL, and it's developing nicely, both along the revenge and romance plots. I'm looking forward to reading the fully translated... more>> good stuff! <<less

Top translation but couldn't save the storyline that went bogus.

The idea of the story is that MC and the girl he liked transmigrated into ancient world. There he helped the girl to ascend to being the Emperors favorite. For thanks she poisoned and killed him. MC wakes up at the time he was forcefully taken to the palace and about to get castrated.... this time he was able to get away but still pretended to be a little Eunuch.... just to find the right time to get rid of this... more>> girl. While planning, he got closer to the Emperor... and became highly favored...

I do like the idea of this story and it started quit fun. It was rather fun when MC was frightened but still did stuck to the truth to the Emperor. It was repeatedly mentioned that ML hates nothing more than being lied to and that ML needs to tell the truth but you might know what happened next... MC schemed left, right and center. He was even warned and it was obvious that he just need to talk but MC became the stereotype of dumb Villains and walking in his own doom.

And again, if that communicated that whole dogblood could have been skipped.

Also the whole plot of chapter 45 to 58 was so unnecessary... the whole novel would be better without it. Unfortunately this became the start to a lot of hot/cold behavior, more non-communication and dogblood.

In the end I never had the feeling that MC and ML became a real couple. No trust and no feeling of reliance.

It is OK to read once but I really regret the good idea that went to become a bogus story. <<less

I am not going to lie, I’m quite disappointed with this novel because it started out quite good and had a lot of potential. Then everything kind of spiraled after the party with the neighboring prince. After that point I just kind of skimmed the rest and I was just annoyed with the rest of the story.

Overall, 2 stars for the good start and translation, but the rest was pretty much garbage.

I am satisfied! I greatly enjoyed this series but was pretty conflicted with the characters though. I quite liked the cleverness and quickness of the MC and devotion of the supporting male characters. I mostly feel conflicted because of the ML. Truthfully, he is terrifying. Especially in the last chapter when he got violent; that caused me a lot of strife. But otherwise, I really liked the MC and the plot as it was really easy to follow and enjoy.

Spoiler

but yeah, the major mood killer for me was how the emperor basically roofied the MC halfway through the series and then basically nearly mu*dered him in the last chapter. Domestic violence is really not okay. Really dampened the romantic setting for me.

because I thought from the summary that the ML might have memories of the previous life as well but nope. Mixed thoughts for this novel. Starts out good because MC is hellbent on revenge towards Mo Qi and plots everything in his manipulative ways. In a way, this is the first time I've read Evil!MC (sort of evil.. Well..)

The ML (Emperor) is powerful and mysterious which made me even more curious about him. I really like the little moments when he catches MC off guard and MC just tries to hard to avoid him sometimes. Like I said the beginning of the novel is an interesting read with the... more>> progressing plot, slow build and the usual fight-for-power/position drama occurring within the palace.

Spoiler

I would've given it a 5 star but everything went downhill for me after the MC falls for ML and just goes all weak and scared whenever ML is around. ML was built up to be a super mysterious and cool character but in the end he turned out to be a typical seme; over-possessive and too controlling. At first MC is my favourite character until I read past the mid arc, the 2nd leading ML (Fu YuJan) and MC's friend/rival/enemy (Lan Wei) turned out to be more interesting to me.

[collapse]

Anyway, I did enjoyed reading all the chapters at one go. I would definitely recommend this for those who love Historical and Ancient China BL. <<less

I couldn't wait for the English, so I read this in Vietnamese and I really liked the way it was written. It was a very addicting read with a good story flow that always made me want more. I admire that the author gave hints where hints were needed and tied up all the loose ends. However, it seemed like the MC had a different personality for every arc and was a bit of a doormat. The female antagonist also had weak character development. ... more>>
Spoiler

I wanted the MC to end up with the love rival instead of there being a s*upid excuse like "the MC's body responds only to the ML." At a certain point in the story, the ML's character development took a back seat to the LR's very smooth and well paced development at the time, making me feel disjointed and root for the LR instead. And the MC's background of coming from the future seemed to only be there so that he could have knowledge of gunpowder but... really? Wasn't he an art student?

I wouldn't say I liked this novel very much. It started pretty well, with the MC being OK, but as the chapters progressed and the story advanced, he became more annoying and immature. The emperor was dumb. Maybe I'm using the wrong word to describe him, but I have never read a historical novel where the palace can be infiltrated so easily and often. Where are the shadow guards? Why are the imperial guards so useless?! The authenticity was not there, which turned me off from the entire novel. Because... more>> of that, I skipped about 20 chapters, and honestly, I missed nothing. I mean, I could figure out what was going on. When I left from, like, chapter 45 or 47, and I jumped to, like, chapter 60 or 63, and I missed nothing. I could figure out what happened between those chapters that I skipped. It was drawn and got boring after a while. They were just annoying! The main characters had no personality, just pigheaded and irritating. This novel is for people just starting to read historical novels and have yet to grasp its beauty fully. I enjoy historical novels that try to be as accurate as possible. So, with that being said, I did not enjoy reading this novel. <<less

The beginning of this novel is a bit rough around the edges. It's very abrupt and hard to get into, things happen a bit too conveniently for the MC and seem odd. I was like ok this is a solid mediocre 3-star story, but after finishing it I'm sure giving 1 star is being way too generous and I'll explain why.

The MC is a character that's not particularly endearing, it's a revenge story and I get it but characters who are constantly angry and obsessed with retribution and hate are... more>> just not something I find appealing.

As the story progresses it somehow becomes worse and worse until I started actively hating it.

Let's talk about the characters. They're so f*cking bland and boring, they all have zero personality and can be described in 1-2 cliches. I took a break from reading this novel for a couple days and have already forgotten all their names, they're just that shallow and uninspiring. Also they're all extremely non consistent in their characterization.
    • MC is described to be an oh so clever and scheming genius but turns out to be annoying, s*upid and cowardly. MC is very malignant and spiteful, he enjoys harming people who're in a position lower than him and can't fight back, while crawling under the feet and licking the boots of those more powerful. I hate these sort of people IRL and I also despise characters like this in fiction. He's also a master in everything from dancing to cooking, from strategy to technology etc. rolls my eyes. His character progression regression is going from an angry, vindictive gremlin to a K-drama possessive and jealous petty heroine, who loses her last brain cell around the ML.
    • ML is an incredibly basic cold, emotionless and violent emperor that gives absolutely zero f*cks about what the MC (or anyone else) feels or wants. He's supposedly very good at reading people and telling truth from lies but suddenly when MC is involved he's blind and deaf, so MC lies to his face all the time while scheming left and right and ML doesn't notice anything. Drugs and r*pes MC for their first time, r*pes him again for the second time. The power imbalance until the very end is extreme
      Spoiler

the MC literally started talking about his feelings sometimes only after the ML gave him a golden plate that would spare him from death if he says something the ML doesn't like.

      [collapse]
    • Mo Qi also a VERY basic, bland, one-dimensional villainess, she reminds me of villains from Disney cartoons, s*upid, annoying, arrogant with no redeeming qualities. Well I'm not a little kid anymore so when I read a book I'd prefer to see more intricate and profound characters even as villains and not just these boring cliches.
    • Lan Wei had exactly two character traits for half the book: he's in love with Mi Qi and he's good at martial arts. That's it.
      Spoiler

Then he somehow fell for and became a tsundere for the MC (just because he saved him once?) just like every other male character in the novel.

      [collapse]
That was very out of place and weird. If I really HAD to choose one character from this novel that I liked (or rather disliked the least) it would probably be him even if his sudden feelings for the MC made no sense.
    • Fu Yujun what was the point of this character even? It's just a token third party between the MC and ML, he's so ban*l and simplistic but still somehow better than the violent, angry rapist ML, wow
Another point that grossed me out is how when the MC did something (or just stood there not doing anything at all) literally every single male character in the novel was like "uwu so cute~~ he's such a uwu cute little puppy/kitten/hamster/rabbit~~ so kawaiii kyaaaa!!", I was like wtf, what is this writing?

Aside from everything mentioned above this novel is also full of the worst BL cliches I hate the most. Including but not limited to "MC's body is so hot when I touch him against his will, if his body enjoys it, it means he actually wants it", "oh I blush when I think about the ML after he r*ped me twice, might that be that I like him a little?!" and my favorite "I love you, I promise to treat you well and give you everything, as long as you never say no to me, always follow my rules and lick my feet like a lap dog. I love you so". The absolute rock bottom of BL storylines that I hoped to never see again after the popularity of these tropes in manga died off around the 2000s.

The plot had an interesting premise but it turned out to be a mess, a burning shitshow. With the amount of plot holes and just overall awful writing, characters that change their entire characterization all the time. The story is all over the place some ridiculous sh*t happens all the time.
Spoiler

Characters teleport and appear in different places unexplainably, emperor starts a war and revolution in another country to return the MC who ran away this is so irresponsible, so disgusting towards the residents of both countries and ordinary people. Anyway the MC didn't want to come back, then he saw the emperor, kissed him and suddenly wanted to come back, MC invents gun powder on his knee, because not only he's a professional dancer, chef, artist and court lackey, but also an amateur chemist and manages to defeat a 300000-man army with some bamboo sticks filled with gun powder. Later manages to produce hundreds of blueprints of modern weaponry in a span of a few days.

[collapse]

I just.. I can't, it's so ridiculous, so s*upid. I had to consciously stop myself from thinking too much about all the details here because if not it would've been impossible for me to ignore and continue reading this.

It was such a tr*shy read I don't recommend it to anyone, even with just ~70 chapters I struggled and suffered so much to finish it just because of FOMO and my hate of dropping novels in the middle. Why does this even exist? It's not even a funny, "so bad it's good" type of tr*sh novel. Why author, why <<less

Revenge for our MC hihi anyways he's not op but MC finally made a comeback from what happened in the past. There's no love at first sight too which is nice. Actually there's a tense atmosphere between MC and ml. Of course considering the "ancient" times. ML finally accepted MC and fight for their love. Was a good reading, try it.

Story was an ok at the start. Plot at the front to mid was ok. Started off well, MC was in for the revenge and ML seemed really smart. There wasn't any doubt for me who the ML was right from the start. Story was ok until the part when MC entered the harem. Seems like the minute he was officially given a title, his brain stop working. All that intelligence from earlier was flushed down the drain. He was so scared and timid in front of the ML but... more>> suddenly all that change when he enter harem and he felt like he could challenge everything. Felt like MC character digress at the end. <<less

Umm what to say..... I really enjoyed this novel in the first half. Loved the whole revenge thing, and also really liked the MC.

The romance though....I never really got into the romance. There always seemed to be such a huge power gap between the MC and ML, it made me extremely uncomfortable. The MC was always scared to death of ML. And the ML didn't really intrigue me. He is the same as literally all other MLs, except this time I was actually afraid for the MC. The relationship dynamic... more>> just ain't it.

Then comes the unnecessary second male leads. I hated the parts pertaining to them. I would prefer them over the ML but I still hated all the unnecessary drama that came with them.

Honestly just skipped past the second half of the story, couldn't bear to read it.

The last chapter though.... I hate it so much. Even after everything, there is still such a major power imbalance between MC and ML. MC behaves like less of his former self and more like a lovestruck heroine with no braincells. But ML is even more annoying.

Spoiler

Got mad at MC for making friends with a concubine, and when MC states the obvious power gap between them, he gets mad and STRANGLES the MC?????? YOU LOVE HIM BUT WILL STRANGLE HIM?? AND FOR WHAT? HIM ASKING FOR AN EQUAL PARTNERSHIP???

[collapse]

And even if that got sorted out later it still leaves a shadow on me. I have no idea how MC overcame that bit of domestic violence so easily. This is also part of why I hate emperor type settings for BL.

So yeah it did somehow satisfy my expectations in a the first half, but I got heavily irritated in the second half. <<less

The start of the story is nice, with a good plot and progress but after chapter 40, the MC became so annoying that he keeps dragging things out.... more>>
Spoiler

the seperation was really unnecessary since it was obvious that the emperor doesn't really mind his little thing being still attached there. It became so dragging and sometimes I doubt if he really likes the ML or he's just there out of fear. Over all it keeps poking my impatient point after ch 40. And also I felt like he really isn't sincere to the ML, he wants the ML to be open to him yet he himself is so secretive that no matter how many times the ML asked him and give hints so he would be placated to open up yet, he still takes it all for granted. And yes he keeps taking the ML for granted which annoys me the most.

If you read this story don't put too much hope in it since there are a lot of plot holes <<less

Binged the entire thing and the quick take is that the beginning and middle were pretty strong and had a good hook to it, however once you hit the few final chapters things like the MC’s characterization slowly start to deteriorate. At the end, it’s a little sudden that the MC is quick to anger but overall the story is pretty good and pretty straightforward with a few plot twists that were pretty interesting. If you’re looking for something to burn away the time, this might interest you, the story... more>> is decent and the translation is good.

i read this a year or so ago. This was the story that made me realize that I really don't like court politics messing up an otherwise good novel. I'm not a fan of the big, forceful emperor type and I can't figure out why the MC would ever pick him out of all of them. This has r*pe in it so it lost another star for that. The beginning was good enough but by the end I was grinding my teeth and wanted to smack the MC upside the... more>> head for his choices. <<less
